  • What's up guys, hopefully you guys are having a good day... and not as bad as my friend did on this video. Initially we had plans to install a few minor bolt ons to this car and when the day came, things turned sour really quickly. The owner arrived on site with steam creeping from under the hood and he said the temperature needed was close to maxing out. Once he popped the hood, it was pretty obvious what was going on.
In this video I will be tearing apart (with the assistance of the owner and also my brother) to expose the head gasket. This should not be considered as a guide for removing the 2G DSM cylinder head, its mainly just for informational purposes... work on your car at your own risk or simply take it to someone that knows what they are doing.
We also had a few local DSMers stop by to chill, BS a little and grab a bite to eat. Hope you guys like this long video, if you do make sure to hit that like button and subscribe if you haven't done so already!

My 6bolt swap dsm runs 210* idle
Farthest it gone up was 213* but then back down to 210* 206* at times
Is 210* too hot on a 6bolt? At idle and cruising
I’m thinking my TSTAT since it’s old forsure

Man my 97' GS-T with only 104,000 miles just had the thermostat stop working and pretty sure I blew my head gasket cuz im leaking anti freeze from the block, below the PS pump and above the ALT.... :( Looking into options at the moment.... I did the timing belt 2 years ago myself around 67,000 miles... debating on fixing it or selling it as ive never done a head gasket before... this is the first issue ive had with me DSM since purchase back in 2014 with 46k miles : ( x 1000

Did u ever end up selling? I'm in the same boat. Mechanically inclined but never done a head gasket and don't want to risk fucking it up more. I've had alot of cars but I've held on to my 98 GST through everything. I'm too selfish to let anyone else have her. Tomorrow I start with mine, wish me luck 🙏

@@potato9488 no. It’s actually just leaking from the water pump weep holes upon a deeper inspection. In the process of flushing the system before I put a new one on. I’ve got another car and I’ve just been lazy tbh haha
Good luck with yours though! Make sure you don’t have the same issue as mine! There are 2 weep holes that can leak is the shaft seal goes bad on the water pumps from what I gathered from the DSMTuner forums

Puede ser muchas cosas. Turbo, Empaque de la cabeza, sellos de las valbulas, anillos. Te recomiendo investigar que color es el humo y empesar a buscar las posibilidades de alli. Suerte!
