Savers hires pricers who research item prices. So most of the time their prices are higher than other thrift stores. They also don't consider themselves a "thrift store" or a nonprofit. They are for profit. I still shop there, but always make sure I have a bundle to donate so I can get a coupon.
I go to savers on senior day (54 and older) everything 30% off so if higher priced items that I would normally pass on, I generally will pick up on that day. Mugs especially good to pick up that day.
Aakkk!! I've been looking for that "Ten Ways To Good Health" mug ever since I saw it in my Dr's office 3 yrs ago!. If you had picked it up, I would have bought it from you. My tips... 1) Go with what you KNOW first. 2) Check thoroughly for flaws (chips, cracks, missing components in hard goods; holes, rips, stains, missing buttons in clothing). and 3) Understand how you'll ship an item BEFORE you source it.
The A&M mug that you passed over: some universities have a fanatic fan base and alumni base and A&M is one of them. I don’t know for sure that it would sell because of my experience, but I’m pretty positive that this kind of mug would sell in a store on campus on any of the campuses for quite a bit, and that somebody would be very happy to pick this up for their student and son or daughter or their alumni parent or friend
It only took me going to Savers once to know their prices were too high. I've also heard that California doesn't have half price Saturdays at Goodwill, when I met some resellers from CA there. They drive to Vegas where I am every Saturday.
Other considerations on the ceramic bowl is, its size and fragility. You have to carry, store and maintain it. I would like something less fragile for that ROI margin
Yep. I get overwhelmed too! (And I haven’t even started reselling yet). They all start to look like junk. Then they all start to look good. And then I start getting serious. My biggest Nono though is once I zero in and get focused, I sometimes forget to check for damage. This is for sure the same as yours, except that I think I get hypnotized or something. When I’m disappointed that I’m not finding anything & then I do, I forget to check for chips. I’ve brought home more than a few chipped items. Maybe what would work better for me or a 6th rule is to make a final damage check BEFORE checking out? I go up and down the aisles several times. There’s usually too much to see in one view. First to just check if there’s something I just need to get right off the bat. But the second time is the more serious look. And the final check I’d to look up AND down.
The Home Trends Italian Villa (yellow coffee cups) on the shelf. The mugs don't sell for a lot unless you find 6+ The large serving platters and bowls sell pretty well.
I was looking at the prices in your area and found out that in Calgary, Canada thrift stores are way cheaper. I usually go to USA and thinking of going to thrift stores, but prices are bit higher on other side of the border
Very informative video. I shop Goodwill a lot. It takes me forever to go through the hard goods section of the store, It's my favorite section. I always check the mugs out I like the unusual, cat mugs especially if their made by Laurel Burch. I have gotten some pretty cool ones at garage sales.
My first time trying to buy stuff from a thrift store and it took me for damn ass ever because I kept checking to see if the items were worth anything... I started getting paranoid lol
The pink vanity box was the wrong color for the general audience. It may have sold for 35 $ or so to a 'pink' collector or a air b&b place who are trying to decorate. Might take a little time...so a pass was probably in your best interest.
When I see a quality items on the cheap and I get a gut feeling about it. Cat cups are my favorite. I bought a ghoulish cup for Halloween recently. I have a decorative pillow fetish. If I find a clean, pretty and the right color I will pick it up. I take a lot of pillows back the thrift store too.
I'm a regular there and I make donations from time to time and get 20% off coupons plus you get coupons when you reach $100 purchases. If you're a senior you get 30% every Tuesday. Plus they have sales from 30% - 50% off during the year that you get notified when you sign up with them. The only thing about these sales is the stores are jammed packed during these sales and are tedious to got through when they have them. I'm usually happy with 20% off coupons to save myself the hassle.
Hi, Margaret! I want to take a minute and thank you for your willingness to share information on being successful. That is truly a very admirable trait… You should get lots of karma points! And I really enjoy your fun personality. I am just starting… I have tons of stuff, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I wish you the very best… DJ Colorado Springs
I buy all for myself !! I love them . there just the right weight for me . I can't use one to heavy due to my hand and health issues . and who wants to pay $ at Starbucks new lol
Because you like it does not mean everyone else will like it. A lesson I learned early on. You seem to have good eyes when it comes to style but remember ...trends come and go but good taste is always in style. Subject matter is sometimes more important than condition. I've seen plenty of good artist's items sit on the shelf because the "look" just wasn't there.
From my experience, you walked by four things on the first shelf alone that would have been treasures for me. But, as I say, I'll leave them for someone else who will love it more.
Oh my you missed so many things :) but if I was scanning through jewelry you would probably say the same to me. :) the leather horse is a nice piece but does not sell well. If you are lucky 10 bucks or sit for a year for about a year. Mine was free and sat for a year sold because my friend saw it on my shelf at home. Soo. Lol many years ago it did sell for 80-100 :) horoscope mug is awesome! I think my biggest advice would be look for stuff you love and like it makes listing and comping easier and pick a category on eBay of solds and scan them start a memory bank :) of course learn from others :)
Hey there first time hanging with you! I think that there was a few mugs that i think you could of done well on. The John Deer mug was great for gift um there was a couple of inspiration ones that caught my eye... Oh ya the Mothers one was great too. Poeple that drink coffee want to have a nice mug, carrying it around at the office....per say. But the giraffe and the cat one was i great find.
I saw a moose one that maybe was fire king?? And i saw a Hawaii one that looked cool..Idk about how they would sell...but I liked them and learned about that Fire King from you...xo.
Howdy, hi! Hello, Margaret… I am new and watching all of your UA-cam programs. I want to take a minute and tell you how much I appreciate that you are willing to pass on your knowledge. That is a very admirable trait… And thank you very much. I wish you the very best. And I enjoy your cute personality… You make it fun to watch! DJ McCormack Colorado Springs
I think there might have been a vintage Victor insulator mug on the top shelf. They are the classic diner mug, and they weigh about one pound each. Not terribly valuable, but still cool!
I just subscribed to your channel I find it interesting and up to date I'll start to see your videos I learn more of the trade I'm fairly new selling in Ebay and my local offerup but want to expand to other venues...Keep doing the good job 😉🤑😊
Saver’s prices can be off the wall. Not sure why. I have so many mugs to sell, and they don’t sell for a huge amount, I’m trying not to even look at them for now.
Any good will or thrift store i go to I always ask them to lower the price especially if im purchasing alot. It works the majority of the time if not i leave it. I cant stand these thrift stores charging retail prices.
I paused the vlog @ 3 minutes to say (referring to the porcelain box) that hopefully someday soon the Goodwills of this world will get the message and lower their income targets 🎯 .
Do not ignore the baggies! I turned .82 into 35.00 found 6 uranium salt cellars.
I mostly sell vintage, and I noticed a HALL glazed brown ceramic mug.

“Really...#1 Lawyer, someone’s mom must have given them that.” I laughed my butt off when you said that 😆
my mom used to use one of those pink ceramic boxes as a talc box with the powder puff inside and all
I love the giraffe mug. I remember those. You tell a child " If you want to see the giraffe, finish your milk!"
I go to savers on senior day (54 and older) everything 30% off so if higher priced items that I would normally pass on, I generally will pick up on that day. Mugs especially good to pick up that day.
Thanks for pointing out that when looking on ebay to look at completed items. People often forget this.
Watch out for Dansk wooden MCM pepper mills! D handle Fire King mugs, get those if in good shape.
I would really love a video specifically on mugs, dishes and kitchenware in general.
Aakkk!! I've been looking for that "Ten Ways To Good Health" mug ever since I saw it in my Dr's office 3 yrs ago!. If you had picked it up, I would have bought it from you. Great tips! When I go down the aisle a second time, I go the opposite direction.

Sounds good Margaret, I look forward to these types of videos from you, great information, Thanks so much!
Keep an eye out for Marvel mugs! (Spiderman, etc)
That brass ginger jar was so beautiful! That's the kind of stuff I look for on etsy:)
Other considerations on the ceramic bowl is, its size and fragility. You have to carry, store and maintain it. I would like something less fragile for that ROI margin
The flowered mug, after you mentioned the video game cup not being a good buy, was a Coventry
They sell pretty fast and for a decent amount
I've sold 5 Starbucks mugs since January :)
May I ask what site. I have 4 that are not selling and I am sure they are OLD NEW STOCK. Thank you.
Scleroderma Smarter Was just going to say they don't seem to sell any longer.
Yep. I get overwhelmed too! (And I haven’t even started reselling yet). They all start to look like junk. Then they all start to look good. And then I start getting serious.

That's what my daughter and I do. It's even better with another pair of eyes!
The JOY mug was Rae Dunn! Looked to be from one of her older, rarer collections 😩😍🥺💔❤️
Interesting! But she said it looked to be cracked or crazed, so maybe it was for the best that she didn't pick it up?

I have so many duds because I don’t follow through with those rules. I’m starting to re-donate items and start over. 😅 thanks for the reminder!
Love this! So important to keep in mind and shop mindfully.
My first time trying to buy stuff from a thrift store and it took me for damn ass ever because I kept checking to see if the items were worth anything... I started getting paranoid lol
That's me right now 😂🤦♀️
Very much stuff here, yes. Almost all utter junk. The cherry tree has been picked clean. Only leaves left.
I get mugs for 25 cents usually
The pink vanity box was the wrong color for the general audience. It may have sold for 35 $ or so to a 'pink' collector or a air b&b place who are trying to decorate. Might take a little time...so a pass was probably in your best interest.
At 12.27 the brown mug looks like a McCoy mug I have
Dang, I never buy mugs, I have one set in my inventory, but I would have bought the Sheppard AFB mug, my dad worked there...lol.
My tip to myself is to buy what I like! If I don't like it then it will sit for awhile and not get listed!
Lily Works That is Lavender Clothesline’s motto. She sold 6 figures last year!
@3:16 is that a Maxine plate?🤔
Sometimes I will buy a chipped or cracked piece and use it for yard art and plants
The mug that said Skopion is danish. 😊 Great video and fun to watch!
It doesn't seem that Savers is a good store to purchase items for resale. Their prices seem a bit high!

Most of the prices seemed too high. I would have totally picked up the horse mug for me to add to my horse collection though.
You may have passed up a Deruta Italian hand painted mug. 7:25 in the video
I would have picked up that framed musical note. Looks like Witco which is highly collectable.
How do you check to see what it's been sold for before.
I have about 5 Starbucks mugs duds unless it's the city ones
I buy all for myself !! I love them . there just the right weight for me . I can't use one to heavy due to my hand and health issues . and who wants to pay $ at Starbucks new lol
I like that tall apple mug.
Me too!

the horse was cool
I get overwhelmed in mugs section !

There was a tin mug in the back.

Wasn't there a ginger jar on a low shelf in the beginning?

Go back and get me that horse mug 😂 I'd have bought it it's gorgeous!
I really like these videos. You are so brave
The armed forces mugs are worth some money.
Senior day at Savers is Tuesdays 55 and up!!
Love your videos btw ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I like the Las Vegas mug & the teachers mug
Did you miss some thicker restaurant ware mugs, the white with single red stripe at top?
The “Joy” mug was Rae Dunn
One “awesome mom” mug...”is it cheating if you buy it for yourself?” Lol! 🤣 Nope! You go girl! (New subscriber by the way)
Where in Texas are you ? I’m in Houston none of our goodwills are this nice
Does anyone else's Savers have a display case with the real "gems" with an insane price tag?
I think there might have been a vintage Victor insulator mug on the top shelf. They are the classic diner mug, and they weigh about one pound each. Not terribly valuable, but still cool!
I think the terracotta mug was a bit of a miss.
You missed the talavera pottery mug😩
thanks Margaret , good advice .
love vid, i wouldve grabbed most mugs & all
The skorpion is german
Thank you for the thrifting tips. Very much appreciated.
I just subscribed to your channel I find it interesting and up to date I'll start to see your videos I learn more of the trade I'm fairly new selling in Ebay and my local offerup but want to expand to other venues...Keep doing the good job 😉🤑😊
If you’re in round rock, I’d love to thrift with you. So fun.
Some of those prices were to high at the thrift store.
Really helpful as I am a beginning. How do you find the sold button on eBay?
It’s on the left panel.
@@TexasGalTreasures Thanks x
Nicky Parry I like to look at the completed option under the filters. It will also show the auctions that ended without selling.
The sold button has moved to the top under filter
Wine stoppers seem to sell well...
Thankyou so much
Im pretty sure your poop mug is just a dollar tree mug i have the same one.
I just picked up that same Starbucks mug! Wish I would have seen this video first! Uggghhh! Oh Well :)
Omg why ???? Am I the only one that collects starbucks mugs ?? It's cute !!!
I only would have bought the big thing if I had a coupon for 20% off. Not at 10.
No clothing? We tend to make a lot of our money on clothes. And not just a few bucks. $20 or more
Saver’s prices can be off the wall. Not sure why. I have so many mugs to sell, and they don’t sell for a huge amount, I’m trying not to even look at them for now.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE WITHOUT DORINDA????
Lol can't wait for rhony to start
Any good will or thrift store i go to I always ask them to lower the price especially if im purchasing alot. It works the majority of the time if not i leave it. I cant stand these thrift stores charging retail prices.
I just learned how to add a comment when I’m not watching live... so please bear with me when I just want to say hello y’all
They lrob bought the Ganesh pictures just for the frames LOL
Thank you
Thanks!!
Shipping on that porcelain box would be high.
The language on the mug is german. 😉 Best wishes from Austria! 👋
Awesome! Thank you!
A lot of this stuff should have yard sales prices. All these places goodwill sals and savors are priced way to much . Sorry that’s what I see now.
I think trust your gut. Good advice.
I paused the vlog @ 3 minutes to say (referring to the porcelain box) that hopefully someday soon the Goodwills of this world will get the message and lower their income targets 🎯 .
The 'POOP JUICE' mug is disgusting.
All looks pretty...cute..alll
Speaking of market saturation, there must be 10 million mugs listed and unsold. I wouldn’t waste the time.
Savers is ALWAYS way overpriced!
