@@Funkybassplayer You should just like what you like and pay no heed to the haters. Personally, Sting will never be in my greatest playlist. Truly the music of the gods -- well, the elder gods worshipped in the dankest chambers of R'lyeh.
The thing is that the tune is from some classical composition, Sting just liked what Dominic once played and then they incorporated it into their song.
Mark Tremonti said he dreads playing "I Know It Hurts" live because the chord progression actually causes his wrist to hurt and when they recorded ABIII back then, he knew one morning when he got up he felt ready to "tackle that song" 😁.
@@caprise-music6722he's saying the video Dominic is referring to is Paul David's video, but I think that's incorrect because in that video Paul mentions Dominic by name and says he co wrote the song.
@@drdre4397 Correct! But Dominic is just riffing a joke-y history off memory here. It is pretty clear he is talking about Paul's video just based off the general information he provides (the name of the video, the fact Paul mentions the "original guitarist" tries to avoid that chord live, etc)
I remember learning it because of Juice Wrld, but as I get older, I just enjoy the riff because it's beautiful. I'm not a massive Sting fan, mostly because I don't know too much of his discography, but I have always enjoyed this riff.
If he didnt then why was it more popular than the original? If it wouldnt of been such a big deal then why did Sting sue him? Even though there were hundreds of people also using that exact part.
Dominic is really unpretentious, honest and nice. You could say he is too humble for a very great man. He still cares about the one and only audience that comes to his gigs. Anyone who has been to one of his gigs knows this.
As a person and a musician he is so vulnerable honest and humble in a way that I strive to be in my own life but many times fall short. He is just first class.

these subtle changes while playing can make new music from old and helps the guitarist play songs that can inspire his/her own play. Love the insight :)
And a gen x would respond: so it’s too much works to use any punctuation or use any reasonable grammar so that you were actually effectively conveying something, but you are willing to take the time to capitalize random letters for…reasons?
@@Tyrannosaurine I'm unsure why you used the term "effectively conveying" considering this is a UA-cam comment section in which anyone can compose anything despite proficiency in being irrelevant or superfluous ineffective meaning. Another thing that I'm interested in bringing under discussion is that you used the phrase "too much work," thus being grammatically incorrect. You also asked the individual to whom you have replied why he would devote his time capitalizing on random letters; can you explain why you took your time to respond to his comment?
Nothing wrong with sampling IMO. I think it's a respect paid actually. If someone samples your stuff it means they in some way like/appreciate your music yeah?
I’ve been struggling to play that for years on acoustic guitar and thought it was just me or my dumb fingers. Mind blown 🤯 thank you Dom for creating that beautiful riff!! I love the 2 cellos version as well. It’s even beautiful on piano!
I just think back to those beautifully filmed sessions at Stings house to support ten summoner's tales, must be 30 years ago now when Dominic looked like just a kid
So I met dominic miller at cognac in 2012 for the blues passions festival in France for a show with sting and dominic is such one of a kind very cool and very very charming ! Love that Guy !
Love this hahaha. I’ve seen the exact video he mentions. To Paul David’s defense, he breaks it out step by step explaining how insanely difficult it is if you add all the intricate details. All of the above iconic guitar players are legends!!
This piece of music was used in one of the most perfect moments in cinema history in my humble opinion, the closing scenes of LEON, thank you Dominic for that.....
I enjoyed the interview with Sting because Sting was trying to get some light shining on Dominic, and it’s great to see him get his own interview now. So much of the “background” of music gets shown to us in the stories and explanations we have seen on Rick’s channel, and it helps us to understand the way all those black dots on the page work, and really where they came from.
I made a screen record with your sentence "Play simply so that others can simply play'' and Dominic Miller says ''I'm gonna use this!" Both your idea is great, and DM reaction is awesome.
I love Sting, "Shape" is of course one of my favourite... And I have also loved Dominici Miller since he started playing with Sting in '91... And I am also a great fan of Rick..and Paul too!!! This all story is very funny...but the chord shapes hera are really crazy!!! I learned this song 30 years ago, trying to figure out chords and shapes (...) from a (double staff) piano sheet. I was playing maybe with the right sound, but totally "wrong"! Particularly this "awkard" chord (and the following Asus2 as well) for which I had used open strings... Then I saw a video of Dominic himself, in which he also was making clear he doesn't like people to explain this riffs!:-)
Ten summoner's tales album came out when I had a long relationship going down and I still listen to the album today even if it reminds me of that time. I had a girl who was so friendly to me that time as well that I could've easily replaced my ex with so I can be fixed but I can't, this song reminds me of her.
Everyone tag Paul David so we can settle this super serious guitar beef!! 😂
