My opinion one of the greatest guitar solos ever recorded and each of them has essentially their own solos that meld to harmony as well as their voices do!
Felder mentions Chet Atkins in this video. Chet was one of the most brilliant guitar players the world has ever known and inspired dozens of future greats. He was the first player who could make you believe you were either listening to two guitars at once or listening to one man with 15 fingers.
Tommy Emmanuel, massively inspired by Chet Atkins and is amazing in himself. Windy and Warm is one of my all time faves by Chet and Rachel’s Lullaby by Tommy m.ua-cam.com/video/KRb-JMtRZgs/v-deo.html is absolutely beautiful. If you like Chet you should love this!

This is great. 40 years ago, who would have thought that Felder would be showing us this stuff. Guitar magazines came around and tabbed out the notes, but none of us thought that this dude (or any other dude, for that matter) would show us how they did something 40 years earlier that we can watch or choose not to watch.

Don is my favorite Eagle. They just played here in Charlotte a few nights ago, but I can’t bring myself to pay $250.00 for a ticket when the guy who wrote their most successful tune and, who is in top playing form, is not part of the current extravaganza.
@Blog Vermelho No doubt but it was a collective unit so I have no problem paying money to see Eagles playing the song without him. On the other hand I have seen Felder live and he plays Eagles songs before he was in band that he had no part of which is kind of hypocritical lol.
I was at the concert in Charlotte, and it was the best one I’ve ever been to. They were on fire the entire night, Don Henley was singing so good and Joe Walsh was stealing the show. It was well worth it.
Just absolutely brilliant. One of my fav chord progressions, one of my favorite progression voicings, one of my fav guitar solos. Just so amazing to see this.

Um, I’m kinda with Bike Life here. With the exception of a one-off mention by Rick Beato, no one talks about this guy or any of the Eagles online. Is it just me or does this song stir something in your soul? I don't know quite what it is but I feel a cocktail of nostalgia, hope, adventure, melancholy, the unknown, regret and optimism.
The song has always taken us on a journey and the lyrics and sounds and textures fit it so perfectly. Then you have the solo which is haunting and is just an extension of the lyrics and story of the song. An absolute masterpiece. I was privileged to be a teenager during those years listening to it for the first time and then a 10,000 times more.
Don Felder is all class. His guitar playing is so deliberate and clean. What a great sound. With every note he played I could hear all the other instruments in my mind.

Thank you 🙏🏻 for this song. This song was an inspiration for me when I started to learn to play guitar in my college days… it is still my favorite and the first song in my playlist- which I keep rewinding..
I tell you what. When they say a smell, a sound or sight can take you back to a distant memory, this is 100% that. I grew up in a small town and one of the few things to do as kid during summer in the early 90's was to go to the pool hall and play some pool as well as there being a big arcade. The guy that owned it was an older italian pro that was the nicest guy ever and had a jukebox in the corner that played this song like every couple hours. Every time to this day 30 some odd years later, I still think of that every time I hear this song.
Both of those are great solos, and so very different from each other, yet they share an honesty and purity of expression that few musicians achieve. These amazing artists make their instruments speak, sing, cry or whisper, and not in a vaccum; always in accordance to what the song needs. Immense respect.
To me, this is the best rock song of all time. Pure pleasure from the guitar sounds, even without the lyrics. I have no idea how Don Felder came up with this complex sequence of notes that sound so good together. First heard it in my dorm at Rutgers in the spring of my sophomore year. Everyone loved it.
This is so cool. Back in the day, you could always kind of hack your way through, but something was always missing - there was so much going on sonically that you couldn't separate it out. It's crazy to think that now we have the actual composer of the song showing the world how to play it note by note for free. Oh, also we are apparently in another cold war with Russia, but it really just adds to the nostalgia.
I will be 75 in 3 weeks and am still learning to better my guitar playing skills. This song is from 70’s yet sounds so fresh and Don’s masterful playing continues to inspire me to learn more. It’s absolutely insane that a human being can compose such a magical piece of music, Don Felder is a true and complete guitar genius!
We love you Don! 😘😘
Ain’t hard to imagine when Duane Allman was ur guitar teacher
But only God could create a Stairway!
My opinion one of the greatest guitar solos ever recorded and each of them has essentially their own solos that meld to harmony as well as their voices do!
Free bird solo a CLOSE 2nd!
David Gilmour's solo on "Comfortably numb" performed live in Pompei shares first place with this one.
Felder mentions Chet Atkins in this video. Chet was one of the most brilliant guitar players the world has ever known and inspired dozens of future greats. He was the first player who could make you believe you were either listening to two guitars at once or listening to one man with 15 fingers.
My dad's favorite, and the man who inspired me to learn to play. Never got into his thumb pick, but I loved his stuff.
Check out Mark Knopfler playing with Chet, Mark arguably surpassed him
@@imprezabob Mark would disagree with you, they where great friends, and Chet was schooling Mark right up to the end.
@@imprezabobI think Chet did an album with Jerry Reed as well.
Don Felder is one of the reasons I wanted to play guitar in the first place - I wanted to be the singer and play the solos - Thanks for the inspiration , Mr Felder
Don only sang a few Eagles songs.
Don is in my opinion one of the most under appreciated guitar masters , it's to bad Glenn and Henley didn't appreciate his talents and his contributions to the band, Felder will always be one of the Eagles to me , it's hard to be in a band with so much talent and egos are easily bruised when you don't appreciate each other
I don't believe they don't appreciate his ability
Felder's ultimate perfection was the classical guitar solo he did on the live "Hell Freezes Over" tour cut of Hotel California. Pure mastery.
that version gives me chills. Such incredible artistry.
Will check it out. Thanks
As awesome as the studio version is, it doesn’t hold a candle to that Hell Freezes Over acoustic rendition.
Don tells the story that the day before the first HFO rehearsal, Don Henley asked him to come up with a new intro. He did!
I use to love watching Don and Joe play together. It looked like they were good friends, had a great deal of respect for each other and were just really having a good time! I really missed that when Don left the group.
This is great. 40 years ago, who would have thought that Felder would be showing us this stuff. Guitar magazines came around and tabbed out the notes, but none of us thought that this dude (or any other dude, for that matter) would show us how they did something 40 years earlier that we can watch or choose not to watch.
we are the fortunate sons... and daughters
45 years ago.
And this is why The Dude had his rug stolen and his head put in the toilet. Don't be hatin' on The Eagles and Don Felder.
Well I’ll tell you my brother and I played the solos note by note ( my brother ear is exceptional ), but you are absolutely right, who would have thought it, this would save us a couple of weeks of intense work.
@@pedrodiaz5540 🤣 Right! I’ve been limping around with a half way decent take for years but all his style and detail are clear to see now. Tell your brother good job if he did nail this one 👍
Wow.
People who don’t play guitar watch this and think “I should learn to play guitar - it will be really cool.”
People who play guitar and watch this think the opposite.
Awesome video. Thank you.
Ha ha ...So True 👍
Yeah....I just went and threw my guitars in the trash😢
haha my guitar retired today
Do not prejudge someone ..who you do not know...
The song lives on, one of the best songs ever written and produced to this day!
You don't know the history...Jethro Tull and Eagles toured together. Listen to the song "We used to Know' by Jethro Tull and you'll understand that Hotel California is a total rip off...
Definitely one of the greatest melodic guitar songs ever written and played….from beginning to end…..point blank ! 🎸👍🏻💪🏻👌🏻🇺🇸
but the song is a silly complaint of a bad experience at a hotel. The shining by steven king came out the year after.
Silly complaint turned into a monster hit.
It's epic... Mythic... And I don't care much for the Eagles. This is their Stairway to Heaven...
@@FreezyAbitKT7A I think you have to look a little deeper.
Take a good look at this Kanye.
This is a musical genius.
You can say that again!!! This is talent!!! And done with a pleasant smile!
Right, that’s why Don Felder is a billionaire musician and Kanye isn’t. FOH 🤣
@@bigfranchise Being rich doesn't necessarily mean that you have talent.
@@bigfranchise spoken like a true nitwit.
Give Kanye 10 years with a great guitar teacher and he could play this. Give Don 1000 years and he’ll never be able to do Kanye what does lmao
The phrasings in the solo is just killer! Simply watching the changes is just mind blowing. Takes me back to my 11th birthday as that was the first album I bought with my own money.
At 72, still the most amazing solo ever written or played. Still can't play it but I keep trying. Thank you so much!!!!
The tone on that Gibson is mind blowing! Agreed... one of, if not the best tune ever conceived!!
he's got a bit of fuzz envelope on there - so it's not the pure tone - anyhoo the tone certainly rips
I wish that skills ( and a Gibson too)
that caught my ear immediately! I was looking to see if anyone else noticed..
Don is my favorite Eagle. They just played here in Charlotte a few nights ago, but I can’t bring myself to pay $250.00 for a ticket when the guy who wrote their most successful tune and, who is in top playing form, is not part of the current extravaganza.
agreed
He wrote a chord progression. No lyrics, melody, no chorus..
@@BBOZ83 still wouldnt exist as we know it without Felder
Good to see an Artist and guitarist like Don in good shape and health....unlike many of his "colleagues" of the time....long live the ols master.....and i do love this song and the guitar solos....
Incredible song and solo that still sounds fresh today. Way ahead of its time!
You know when a work of art is truly a work of art : it stands the measure of time. This song, is one of those examples. Well done Don!
One of the true masterpieces of song writting and guitar brilliance. This one has always amazed me.
So precise, just incredible. I love when he's doing raking and mute notes....I could listen this countless times. Thank you Don!
I wish I saw this before I butchered the solo in front of my entire school at our spring concert in 8th grade some 42 years ago! Thank you Don! You were a huge inspiration to me growing up and still remain among my top favorite players.
It's one of those amazingly simple solos which require a shedload of skill and technique so don't be too hard on yourself way back then - no internet and youtube to teach us the tricks. Been playing 40+ years and only now with this video will I actually learn to play it correct haha 😂
I wish you tube was around when I was learning to play 55 years ago. Nobody told me what CAGED means back then.
@@thornil2231 Caged was what we did with the drummer when we ran out of beer in the van on the drive back from the gig 😂

@@brians7181 Haha - you and me both mate :)
O M G Don Felder, You are excellent and amazing. The Eagles were crazy for losing you. You are the man. and an amazing guitarist. I love all your music thanks again 🙂
One of the most legendary songs and melodies ever written. You must have heart, soul and that special touch to play this song. Always a crowd pleaser.
Don gives lots of credit to any of the other band members that did add to the song. Don is humble for being such a guitar legend for so long. He was teaching some of the great guitarists and players long long ago in Gainesville. Go jam Heavy Metal of his.
Best guitar solo, performed by Mr. Felder and Mr Walsh. What a master piece.

Watching him play the solo is awesome. The Les Paul he's playing isn't too shoddy either.

Thanks for sharing your creation of a great song and guitar artistry......this is one of the best classic rock songs.
People absolutely do not pay respect to this man’s level of guitar playing.
Wth?....Lots of people respect this guys guitar playing, even Glen Frey and Don Henley respected him so much they let him into the Eagles
This comment is probably the most disrespectful comment I've ever read.
@@dutchman063 ok bud. You go years without hearing him mentioned as a great player. But whatever you wanna think.
Um, I’m kinda with Bike Life here. With the exception of a one-off mention by Rick Beato, no one talks about this guy or any of the Eagles online.
Although I’m guessing that has to do with how aggressively the Eagles attack anyone who puts any amount of their songs online… It’s hard to talk about the Eagles when the Eagles silence anyone who talks about the Eagles.
This is literally the most famous guitar solo of all time.
Don Felder is my favorite guitarist. Not only is he technically brilliant, but I love his tone and he plays with such emotion. I'll see him live in Atlantic City next week. can't wait. I appreciate the video
I saw him two years ago. Was the best concert I’ve ever seen. Enjoy.

My Son, Daughter, And Son In law seen Don Felder 2 years ago in Chicago, with Styx and Reo Speedwagon. Even though Reo and styx were both amazing, they all said Felder was the best. I hope you enjoy your show. Peace..
I'm jealous!
Is it just me or does this song stir something in your soul? I don't know quite what it is but I feel a cocktail of nostalgia, hope, adventure, melancholy, the unknown, regret and optimism.
Beautifully put. I agree with all of those superlatives. It awakens a beautiful nostalgic melancholy of hope
Thank you to Don Felder, most definitely one of the nicest/coolest guys in rock and roll,...........
Don Felder is all class. His guitar playing is so deliberate and clean. What a great sound. With every note he played I could hear all the other instruments in my mind.
One of my favourite guitarists after learning to play this amazing solo and song. One of the best guitarists ever 🎸🤘
Met Don Felder on a cruise 3-4 years ago. He was playing a show for a private event. Was very approachable, very gracious. We talked guitars, pick ups, how many times they're wound, etc. A gentleman.
One of my all-time favorite guitarist ever. His playing touches my soul.
Don's solo on One Of Those Nights is great - one of my favorite solos of all time.
Apparently he wrote the opening bassline too.

He just comes out of the gate on fire on that one, and then eases into more fluid melodic passages - just brilliant.
I have many guitar heroes but this guy's effortless, laid back and technically brilliant playing is, along with Gilmore, right up there.

Great book!
Heaven and Hell. Come out around 1998.
@@morningsky8045 Yep, this has happened many times where someone joins an established, successful act and makes a significant contribution. Ronnie James Dio and Black Sabbath comes to mind. As the contributor, you have to realize that while your contributions may become legends some day, you have to wait until they do before you can start claiming legendary status and treatment.
@@morningsky8045 Pretty sure he contributed a few more licks than that. And just because they wrote good songs doesn't excuse Henley and Frey from being such assholes. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and Keith Richard were never like that. Still can't believe what Frey said about Randy Meisner in the documentary. Haven't been able to listen to their music since Don wrote his book. Frey got what he deserved. Karma is a bitch.

One of greatest licks in guitar history if not the greatest, coming from one of the greatest guitarists! Well done sir and thank you for all those years of great listening to my favorite band!

The master at work. Truly amazing.
It is nice to hear the real person who wrote and played this iconic song. I know He does not play with the band anymore and it breaks my heart that it has to be that way. In my opinion I think Don Felder should be the only one to play it. Awesome job Don!

Don Felder is hands down, one of my guitar gods. Melody, progressions, and amazing solos. The man has it all.
Guy looks better than all the other eagles put together
I tell you what. When they say a smell, a sound or sight can take you back to a distant memory, this is 100% that. I grew up in a small town and one of the few things to do as kid during summer in the early 90's was to go to the pool hall and play some pool as well as there being a big arcade. The guy that owned it was an older italian pro that was the nicest guy ever and had a jukebox in the corner that played this song like every couple hours. Every time to this day 30 some odd years later, I still think of that every time I hear this song.
Probably the greatest solo ever.
Maybe Clapton's While my Guitar gently weeps
Both of those are great solos, and so very different from each other, yet they share an honesty and purity of expression that few musicians achieve. These amazing artists make their instruments speak, sing, cry or whisper, and not in a vaccum; always in accordance to what the song needs. Immense respect.
brilliant playing by Don Felder!
Best solo ever played in history by Da Man himself! Biggest blessing ever bestowed on me before my time on earth is done. THANK YOU, guitar gawdzz!
Right! What a time to be alive! I started to play before the internet. It really sucked.
