  • BEFORE REMOVING TILE HAVE YOUR HOME CHECKED FOR ASBESTOS, ASBESTOS IS DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH AND IT IS BEST TO HAVE A PROFESSIONAL TEST YOUR HOME. ALOT OF OLDER HOUSE 1980'S AND OLDER WERE KNOWN TO HAVE ASBESTOS.
    I apologize for the view I was the only person in the house at the time. Use two old irons or irons you won't be using anymore. After everything I tried to remove tile this is the fastest and easiest way! Make sure you wet the tile with the iron sprayer right before you move the iron forward. Thanks for watching! via UA-cam Capture

    Great method - a wet thin towel under the iron works well also and protects the iron if it is one you want to use for clothes later.

    Your genius method totally worked like magic. I have been messing around with a floor scraper and a heat gun and I was ready to blow up the house rather than continue with these very slow and ineffective methods. Using just one iron, I breezed through about 700 sq. ft. in mere hours. Thank you so much for saving my home (ha, ha) and sanity!

    Okay, I've been scraping two layers of vinyl flooring and the left over paper and glue. I came across your video this morning and as mentioned below, you are a genius. I've asked flooring companies and tool rental places for suggestions but to no avail. This absolutely works! I'm (and my husband) are amazed by how much easier it is. Plus, I get to buy a new iron:)

    Hello, I just wanted to take the time to let your know... we thank you so much for this video. You pretty much saved us so much headache and backbreaking work. It worked like a charm and we were able to remove a lot of tiles in an hour or two. So thanks.. one tip for others. Make sure you use a really good iron with a steamer for thicker tiles and get a small and large pry bar for leverage.

    The iron works! I put a very wet towel down and ironed over that. It's the method my mom taught me to use to get wallpaper off but I didn't think it'd work for linoleum. It works like a charm! I had to do very small areas though but still much faster than scraping.

    Dude, you helped me tremendously. I was having mucho problemas trying to get that mastic tar paper off of my risers, fortunately I had an old iron just sitting in basement. This was the ONLY thing that did the trick. Muchas gracias and God bless.
    Note: I did not use steam. The soleplate of iron now looks like shit but it was due to be trashed anyway and well worth it. Worth it to spend $15 on a cheap iron just to do this. Thanks a lot.

    That's amazing thank you very much, I was about to spend £30 on a cheap heat gun to remove my bathroom tiles; but I already have an old steam iron in the cupboard so I will use that now, because the heat gun would just sit in the cupboard after it was used. I will be using my electrical breaker plug in case my scraper slips and cuts into the wire of the iron just for safety. PS, I have just tried this using only one steam iron on a 600 mm² vinyl tile and I just used the iron like I was ironing a shirt then I placed the scraper under one corner and gently lifted moving the iron across the rest of the tile which is now like rubber. I just lifted the tile up with my finger and thumb, be careful because the tile becomes very hot so maybe wear some gloves.

    I’ve tried your method with the iron, and it more quick than using a blow torch. I used Bosch steam generator iron and a old t-shirt. Me and son and wife did a through lounge 27ft x 9 ft in 1 hour 15mins. Thanks for that advice video. ( Birmingham, England).

  • @coffeehead68
    @coffeehead68 3 роки тому

    Thanks so much. Yours' was the best advice I could find. We used a wet tea-towel on top of the tile and then ironed and the tile came off so easily. Unfortunately, this left a load of sticky glue which we tried different options to remove, baking soda, white vinegar and fairy liquid removed some of it, white spirit just spread the glue and using a steamer was no help either. Eventually, towels were soaked in hot water with fairy liquid and left on the glue overnight. The glue was then much easier to remove with a scraper. But, the process was repeated the next day and overnight again by which time most of it could be removed. Before the new vinyl was put down, talcum powder was shaken and brushed over the floor. I will never put down sticky tiles again, removing them was not a fun job.

    I would definitely suggest testing your floors for asbestos first! I just read that A lot of linoleum prior to 1980’s was made with asbestos and can be extremely harmful to your body if you do this method without a good mask. The fumes from the glue can also have asbestos and other very harsh chemicals. If you can’t afford to have someone do it for you (like me) definitely wear a mask, keep your windows open and keep the kids and animals away from the room you’re working in. Stay safe friends!

    • @397coney7
      @397coney7 5 років тому +3

      Katie Torres; Yes, dangerous if you’re exposed to it for long periods over time. Taking up a residential floor will do no harm to you. The only real proof that asbestos causes health problems, is people who worked jobs around asbestos day in and day out.

    • @bubba99009
      @bubba99009 4 роки тому +1

      Asbestos is a fiber and it comprises a tiny portion of the tile with the rest being vinyl. The real dangerous asbestos are fiberous things like pipe insulation they used in shipyards. Not the stuff embedded in vinyl tiles. Unless you are grinding/sanding the tile or adhesive and turning the stuff to dust, you don't have much to worry about because there are no airborne particles or fibers until you get to that point.
