+Jayro Ayala thank you. I made it in the fly. When my mom asked me to do it I started with a chisel and hammer then figured why don't I melt this off. Thought of the methods and decided why don't I make a video on this. So, I'm glad you got something out of it. Thank you for watching and don't forget to subscribe.
I was facing this daunting task yesterday. Thank you so much for your instructions. It worked!! U used a hand held hair dryer to heat and remove each tile one at a time. The tiles came up SOOOOO much easier than the last time I did this!! The last time it was an absolute treacherous mess!!! This time I was able to lift and remove the tiles with minimal effort!! I was still left with the sticky mess on my plywood floor. However, I sprinkled baking soda over the entire floor and used a broom to spread it. Immediately the stickiness disappeared. I then swept up all the baking soda and cleaned the floor with a damp rag or mop to get rid of the baking soda. Thanks again, sir!!!
Same here. I spent an evening, got one tile off & the glue is still on the floor and pulls my shoe off, if I accidentally step on it🤭 I looking forward to getting the rest of them up cleanly, now. Thank-you.
Finally an honest and actual method on removing the tiles. Each video shows that chisel method and they seem to be able to remove the tiles with ease. Yeah, if only it were true. The Trafficmaster titles I have for over 10 years are like so strong or stuck to the concrete floor can't even remove a penny-size piece. Thank you!!
I have about 30 sq ft of bathroom floor with vinyl tile to remove. I removed almost 1/2 the tile using the archaic hammer and chisel method. Took a break for lunch and while waiting for my food, I just finished watching your video. Needles to say I am headed to Lowe’s right I eat to pick up a heat gun. You just helped me reclaim at least 2 hours that I was about to unknowingly waste. Thank you so much brother. Great video.
I know you made this video 7 years ago, but you’re still helping people.. my heat gun worked like a charm compared to trying to just scrape those old, nasty tiles off.. I have to admit, I kept waiting for your wood subfloor to catch on fire hoping you had a fire extinguisher handy!! THANK YOU for taking the time to share this more than helpful process!!
This took me from almost an hour to remove one stupid tile to less than a minute per tile... using my hair dryer and flathead chisel with virtually no effort!! Heat... how common sense! LOL Thx so much dude!!
This was the most helpful of all demonstrations. A safe and effective way was the hot air blower. You have to be more experienced ,or on a concrete surface to use the propane torch.
OMG, I find it so hilarious that you demonstrated how to remove the exact tile that my husband and I have to remove from a sub floor! So glad I ran across your video (your technique will make the job much easier) as we have about 600 sq. ft. to remove. Thanks for posting!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm doing a vinyl plank diy, but before I can do the entire floor, I have to remove the linoleum from the kitchen! This is a HUGE help!
Dude....you so saved me an enormous amount of time and pain. Instead of a torch I used an electric heat gun-like you'd use outside to strip pain. Worked like a charm! Easier to control to avoid overheating as well. Still some work to do, but you saved me a ton of time and probably some cut fingers. Thanks!
dpepper07 No problem man. I appreciate you watching. Thanks. Don’t forget to subscribe and like the video. It helps the channel out a lot. I appreciate it.
Forgot to say....I'm stripping off two layers of vinyl...on top is the "sticky back" and the bottom layer is on a pine floor with a thick coating of some kind of 75 year old mastic. Allan's method is working though!
Awesome. I saw your heat blower and I never use my blow dryer, so I used it to get these tiles up. It was so simple and I would have never thought of it. So thanks. You made it interesting with the blow torch for sure.
What a great trick. I just tried it using a hairdryer, and I pulled up a tile in 2 minutes, vs. the 15 minutes it was taking me to hack through them before. thanks!
Thanks for the advise! Started out the cold chisel way and was ready to give up. Took your advise and got out my torch and an oscillating tool with a scraper and really made fast progress!
Now this is a damn good video. Straight to the point with options and an on hands demonstration. Perfect video Allan and thanks, you just made my whole job a lot easier. Thanks!
Your welcome. Thank you for watching. Don’t forget to like the video and subscribe to the channel. It helps me out a lot. I appreciate you. Glad i could help.
Thanks for this video. This worked perfectly. I did 64sq.ft. in an hour after removing the quarter round molding. I recommend opening a window and have a fan moving the air. Lastly, try working your way out of the room because the floor will be very sticky when done.
Thank you so much for posting this video. I bought a bunch of trafficmaster groutable vinyl tile and found that I needed two more boxes, however Shaw Industries discontinued the product and now I have an almost done kitchen floor that I have to rip up and start over. I'm sure this will help me on the sticky vinyl part of the job.
Well done, good video my friend. I need a heat gun and a proper floor tile blade to get my old lino floor up from our kitchen here in France. The glue they used seems to be nuclear strength and has been there for probably 40 years.
Thank you, we got rows of tiles up, and found more beneath, we have become tiled out and to save on time are thinking of laying lino over it,,,,but how do you remove the tackyness for good?
Unfortunatly I don't have a fix to that problem. When I took mine up I just played laminate flooring over it. I think eventually the glue drys and gets hard again but I'm not sure.
Thank you so much anyway. I am so impressed with how quick you got back to me. My field of expertise is photography and photoshop. Should you need ny assistance ever let me know.
That's awesome. Thank you so much for showing such a great method. Getting ready to replace bathroom tiles and thought it was gonna be really hard. Very cool!!
Omg .this is just wot i need to do .iam 65 ' and have been looking at broken tiles for a long time ....thanx for this ' iam off to buy heat gun ....wow 👌😉
This fantastic! I am pretty good with a torch, I think we will use this technique to pull up and replace the damaged ones! Thanks so much for the video!
just wanted to say thanks for video..it was very informative.. I'm remodeling my main bathroom and I'm going to replace all the vinyl on the floor... it's going to make it more easier for me... once again thank you !!

This is very helpful tip. Definitely gonna use it when I redo floor in kitchen at my dad's house for him. He's 77 and disabled so he can't DIY anymore.
Thank you so much for your wisdom I was trying to figure how to get up my kitchen stuck on tiles and BUT GOD🙌🏽🙌🏽I came across your video ❣️Thank you sir👍🏾👍🏾
Nice, thank you. Funny too, I love when you were using the blow torch demonstrating what not to do and I heard in the background, " There is a fire extinguisher right there behind you"
I have to take off some floor tiles but I would be terrified of using a torch and starting a fire. LOL I think I will just use the heat gun, it's a very effective method and a lot safer. Thanks for the video! :)
Best video I've seen yet on the type of tile and sub-floor that we have. Thanks. (but I really like the propane torch method - lends that element of danger!) LOL
Tip: Installing Vinyl Plank Flooring Waterproof in existing bath with peel and stick tile. (no use for glue remover underlayment is your choice.) Take up tile, dust the floor with flour use a scrub brush in a circular motion The flour will dry up the glue, sweep up mop easy and lay the planks. Maybe paint the floor to help seal. I watched the floor guy work concrete after removing tile he swept up dirt from other parts of work area threw it on glue and floor buffed with wire brush. Said he used also used fine sand. That’s where I got the flour idea I used in our bathroom worked quite well. Wife told me to use all Purpose flour, self-rising might cause the new floor to buckle. After 30 years you learn to say ok Honey and nothing else.
My mom has a vinyl tile in her bathroom floor right in front of the sink that is worn and has a hole in it. I want to swap it for a newer looking tile from underneath a dresser. I’m going to use the heat gun method with a cheap heat gun from Harbor Freight and a wide putty knife. Thanks for the idea! It will make my mom happy.
Laura B. Awesome. I’m glad i could help. Apparently you can use a blow drying too. I’ve been seeing that in the comments. So try that before you go buy a heat gun. The heat gun gets hotter though. Thanks for watching and don’t forget to subscribe to the channel.
thank you mate great video!!! i didn't think of using a blow-dryer to remove the glue left over on the wooden floor after removing the tiles. thanks again!
Very helpful video! My laundry room stick & peel tile was all ripped up from previous owners so I needed to figure out how to DIY during this quarantine. He’s cute too 😏
Thank you! Very helpful. The people I bought my house from, applied those sticky tiles on hardwood floors. Any idea how to get the adhesive off the hardwood floor so I can refinish them?
+Mary Maya The adhesive is a huge problem with the sticky tile. As of right now I have no method that can effectively remove the adhesive from the floor. In my video I put down laminate right over the subfloor with the annoying adhesive still on it. Sorry there is probably a solution out there but it's going to be a lot of hard work to get that stuff off. Good luck and thank you for watching my video.
@@adubbproductions Mineral spirits. Let it soak and scrape with a putty knife. Use hot water and dish soap after with a clean rag to get the rest. Hope this helps. Cheers!
Nice job. When I pull up sticky tiles there is a very sticky residue. I noticed there didn't seem to be any on your floor and the tiles were very dry and brittle. Do you know what to do about the stick residue. I have changed them out over the years but now I want to put down planking but I don't know what to do about the residue and where the tiles come together is sometimes raised. I hope you can help me out here. Thanks.
This was helpful. However, I don’t have either of the the heat tools and needed a solution immediately. The idea that popped in my head while watching this was a steamer. I have a small handheld steamer. The tiles were very old and the glue that was used to attach them to the wooden floor boards had turned to a black sticky tar like substance. Heating the tiles with the steamer worked immediately.
Tbanks for the lesson! Does this technique also not leave behind any glue residue to scrape off later? In other words, does it take off the glue fairly clean? Thanks!
This is awesome. Such a variety of things to finsd on your page. I was actually looking to remove th tile from my bathroom and this might just ve the tool i needed thank you.
Great video, thanks. Underneath my vinyl adhesive tiles I have old 9x9 (likely asbestos) tiles. Will this method scrape the 9x9 tiles at all/make them friable?
Floor steamer. Safe way of getting high heat without hurting yourself. Worked really well. Tile came out entirely without cracking or damaging my terra-cotta tile floors. Now just trying to find a way to remove the sticky glue.
I’ve used an old flat iron once worked good but smelled like ass.. I was out in the middle of nowhere.. and that’s all I had at the cabin.. thanks for showing us your technic. Take it easy!
Thanks man. I've been fighting this. Didn't think of a heat gun. I wanted to use a torch. Wife said no. I'd burn the dam house down. Thanks for the video.
When you pulled out that torch dude I thought oh shit!! Here we go! LMAO! Then I thought wait a minute..I bet this a comedic skit ..the next thing he shows is him standing outside his house in flames and looking at the inferno saying to the camera now thats the wrong way! LOL.
@@adubbproductions just tried using hot water and a sponge. I dipped the sponge in the hot water, ringed out about 90% and just rubbed the tile and after a few seconds the glue melted like the torch.
Just curious how old that floor is that you’re doing? After we took ours up there was a shit ton of glue still stick to the ground. We just laid new sticky tile over everything after we got the tiles up and swept a bit.
Ii've just had under house pipe leak consequently floor board soaked wet. Need to dry out by lifting vinyl adhesive exactly as your vid. I've rung flooring places that sell vinyl flooringl but no-one knew how to lift vinyl off. One tiler suggested heat gun. Said chisel & hammer would take all day. So I turned to internet. First I saw. Thanks.

I put laminate right back on top of it. You can put hard wood or what ever you would like. It does leave a sticky residue on the sub floor.
I'm "looking forward to" doing this, and this is a lifesaver. Thank you!

Very good video brother. Exactly what I was looking for. I’m gonna give it a shot with a hair dryer first
Thanks for the video, about to start this myself so good to see how to properly do it.
What did you do about the sticky floors after removing the sticky tiles? Did you just install laminate flooring after without it being a problem?
This was very helpful, thank you!
Awesome. Your welcome.
Thanks man. I've been fighting this. Didn't think of a heat gun. I wanted to use a torch. Wife said no. I'd burn the dam house down.
Thanks for the video.
THANK YOU..saved me ton of money!!!!!!!
No Problem. Thank you for watching. I appreciate it. Don’t forget to subscribe. Thanks again.

Thank you! May God bless you and yours!
Bob Green thank you for watching God bless you to. Please subscribe to my channel if you don’t mind.
When you pulled out that torch dude I thought oh shit!! Here we go! LMAO! Then I thought wait a minute..I bet this a comedic skit ..the next thing he shows is him standing outside his house in flames and looking at the inferno saying to the camera now thats the wrong way! LOL.
Brody McCain lmao. That would have been hilarious. If it was staged of corse.
The next scene, he's saying what went wrong from his tent.
I'm flag I saw this. Thanks for the tips. Can't wait to start on my floors.👍
Thanks for the video! I used the torch method. Loved it!
Dangerous. Glad you didn’t start a fire. That God for that. 🙏🏾 Thanks for watching.
@@adubbproductions just tried using hot water and a sponge. I dipped the sponge in the hot water, ringed out about 90% and just rubbed the tile and after a few seconds the glue melted like the torch.
This right here is right on for me. Thank you so much.
Hey , just curious...Would a hot blowdryer have the same effect ?
+Mary Brady I think it would work it would just take a bit longer maybe because it doesn't get as hot as a heat gun. But it should work.
I just tried it with a hairdryer on high setting, and it worked like a charm!
For me it didn''t. Then again I have these wood Trafficmaster titles from Home Depot...they have so much adhesive on them it is nuts.
1:34 Do the knock away. Lean back. Lean back.
Thanks for the tips.
Your welcome.
Just curious how old that floor is that you’re doing? After we took ours up there was a shit ton of glue still stick to the ground. We just laid new sticky tile over everything after we got the tiles up and swept a bit.
Great video. I tried chipping away without heat. Thanks.
Yea. That would take forever. no problem. Thanks for watching.
Can you start anywhere on the floor or do you need to start in a corner? Awesome stuff man.
Outstanding information, much thanks to you!

A-Dubb Productions - Done, and I bought a heat gun after watching the video.
Time to go do work!
Thanks.
Your welcome. I’m glad i could help. Thanks for watching and don’t forget to subscribe.
