Cheese always is a good choice! There can never be enough cheese! 😁 Over the last couple of years I actally have come to enjoy cheddar more and more as well and now it has become a staple in our house 👌
Haha, I agree! If you want a little snack, a cube of cheese and a bite of bread are an easy and yummy option! :) Yes, I love that cheddar is available now. I still remember that when we were younger there wasn't any cheddar in sight anywhere. ;)
Hi. In the 60’s the UK government's Milk Marketing Board advertised the "Ploughman’s Lunch" as a basic bar meal. This was at the time the breathalyser and strict drink/driving laws were implemented. Pubs were missing customers and also dairy farmers were having a rough time. Many varieties exist but usually it consists a minimum of a big chunk of local cheese, farmhouse bread, pickled onions and apple, sometimes accompanied with various salad ingredients. A no cooking meal easy for a pub to make and sell without expensive kitchens and staff.
Hi Peter, thank you so much for commenting! The Board advertising this dish was a very clever idea! Ploughman's Lunch is delicious! And there is nothing wrong with "simple" dishes as long as the ingredients are good quality. We have "Brotzeit" here in Bavaria, it's very similar to Ploughman's Lunch, and it's a beergarden favourite. I've tried to make Ploughman's Lunch in one of my first videos. If you are interested, take a look! ua-cam.com/video/_eSG4XGXuu8/v-deo.html Greetings from sunny Bavaria! :)
Hi 🙋. Thanks for all this good advice and ideas Eva, so many great varieties 🧀 😊. Oatcakes, “Arran Oak Smoked Cheddar” and a glass of German dry white wine is a big favourite of mine !! So good, out in your cottage garden, in the sunshine 💐 ☀️ just chilling with the cheese board !! Cheers, Don 👋
Hello Don! Thank you for your lovely comment! Oh how nice, you like German white wine? Which one is your favourite? :) Yes, chilling with the cheese board, that sounds very poetic, I like it, haha! :)
@@MissAnglophilia I went down into my dusty old wine seller to check 🍷 ! ( the rack in the kitchen beside the refrigerator 😊 ). What I have and like is “Weinhaus Pinot Gris Urmeer”, from the Rheinhessen Region 👍. Perhaps I should open the bottle this evening 🤔, I already have some nice cheese. Cheers, Don
Thank you so much, my dear friend! Yes, it took me a while to set this all up and produce the video, but comments like yours encourage me to keep doing it! So thank you!!!! :) :)
That beautiful cheeseboard looked incredibly appetising, and a good selection of cheeses. I've never made oatcakes, but I may give them a try. Conversely, one of my favourite cheeses is Cambozola, for the best of both worlds. The soft creaminess of Camembert with the blue of Gorgonzola, delicious :)
Thank you so much for your kind words!! I'm glad that you liked the look of the cheese board!!! :) There's nothing wrong with Cambozola! there are also very good Cambozola pasta recipes, delicious, too. :)
@@MissAnglophilia Definitely nothing wrong with Cambozola, i love it. I meant you love our British cheeses, and i like this German cheese. I'll have to google those pasta recipes, cheers for the tip.
@@MagentaOtterTravels I'm not 100% sure. Don't think I've bought any, but I may have had some from various cheeseboards when dining out. Ahhh, I miss dining out. Still not long now, Restaurants open fully on 17th May, I can't wait. Not to besmirch English brie, which is very good, but my go to one is Brie de Meaux. It's French, made in the Brie region under AOC regs (like Champagne), absolutely lovely. Reading that back, does that sound pretentious, I hope not :) You'll have to try it when you next visit. It's made with unpasteurised/raw milk which I don't think the US allows to be imported. Course if i'm wrong have a look for it, i think you'd enjoy it.
Having lived in America for so long now, I really do miss British cheese, something that I never imagined that I would miss!! This brings back memories of having a good old Ploughman's lunch :) Wow, now that is a lot of chutney!! It sounds like the Irish cheddar has some tang to it!! As for the drink, I think that wine would be the perfect choice for a cheese board. It was indeed a very enjoyable video to watch, even if it did make me a little bit homesick :) I am originally from the West Country, right next to Somerset and Gloucestershire, so I grew up with many cheeses to pick from....... and of course CIDER 😂
Hi Arthur, thank you sooo much for this comment! I'm glad that you liked the video! I do hope that you're not toooooo homesick. I enjoyed reading about your "roots" - what a wonderful place to grow up in. :) Haha, yes indeed, fantastic apples --> fantastic cider! ;) :)
Nice, Eva! I might try the oatcakes (which I love even with marmalade or butter or just dry!). It's not easy to buy them without palm oil but I always search until I find some. 'Stinking Bishop' is one my son brought home once from Cambridge: I don't think local buses allow it to be taken on board due to the pervasive, strong smell! :-) . A mouth-watering video thank you! ATB, terry
Thank you so much for watching and commenting, Terry! :) I must try the oatcakes with marmalade some day. :) Haha, I love this story about the "Stinking Bishop"!!!! :)
The cheese board looks really nice and is surely delicious, but I prefer heavy smelling Bavarian Romadour with crunchy countrybread and a cool Hefeweizen. An Guadn !
It would be nice to combine that with beergarden/ Bavarian food footage, I think, but unlike Britain Germany toughened up restrictions again recently... :( All restaurants and shops (still) closed, people are advised to stay at home when possible. :( Would you like to see "just" the houses?
@@MissAnglophilia I like the traditional German/Austrian Alpine houses made from wood, also the hotels/buildings with the folk scenes, farming characters painted onto them. German food - yes please!!
