Thank you! This one was REALLY hard work, took a very long time to cook (and film). I think the trick is not to think about it when you eat it. ;) It tastes really good! ;) :)
Hi !! Love on a spoon ! Nice 😊. Thanks for the yummy recipe and full method👍. My Grandmother, and my Mum used to make it !! I haven’t had a taste of this traditional pie for years; but you have put me very much in the notion 🥧. Well done Eva, thanks very much and, cheers, Don 👋
Hi Don! Well with restaurants opening up, maybe you'll get a chance to order this pie some time? :) I'm sure your mum and grandmother were excellent cooks! :) Thanks for watching and have a wonderful day! :)
@@MissAnglophilia Yes ! Good idea, some pub grub perhaps 😊. I would cook it myself, but it would have to be the “kidney free” version, if I wished to maintain domestic harmony 👨 👩. Cheers, Don 🙋♂️
Great fun vid! Smooth session. 100 percent i rate this! I watched this video today! I keep you in the list as we're relatable! Let me tell you about it, when i see you again. Oh...
To let the funky smell go, add a couple of spoons of vinegar in the resting water of the kidneys.. then that time period will shorten to just 10 to 15 minutes
Thank you so much for the warning!! I am not able to watch anything that involves meat, so thanks to your warning I was able to use the time bar to make sure that I skipped the parts that I didn't want to see. So I probably only watched 75% of your new video, but I will make it up and watch a video from your archive as well :) I would have gladly taken a Guinness though 😂
Oh, that's wonderful, good that I included the warning! I would have been sad had I shocked you with the kidneys. They are not for the faint hearted, I have to admit I wore rubber gloves when handling them. ;) Thank you soooo much for watching one of my older videos, too! :)
I've eaten this often during my life....but I've never heard kidney referred to as offal... But kidney is rich in iron,so it is very much needed by the body...but I think it's recommended that you don't eat too much kidney per month....everybody calls it Kate and Sidney pie...great with chips and tomato ketchup..and you can usually buy one in a chip shop, hot and ready to eat.. You can tell if raw kidney is fresh just by sniffing it.
@@MissAnglophilia Jewish migrants are believed to have started the first ones...in my town a polish guy used to do one....for years,he had a great personality and he was a talented fryer...
@@MissAnglophilia Turkish people seem to be going into the chip shop business here a lot.... Greek people like the business too...migrants tend to go for these businesses..im surprised they don't do it in Bavaria...there are 4 chip shops in my town of 18,000...3 kebab shops, a chinois shop,an Indian takeaway...plus an American restaurant, an Indian restaurant...a couple of pizza takeaways ,and a dozen pubs...youd think nobody could use a skillet...
I'm sure if you tried it, you'd like it! :) Well I know that there's this famous Bavarian dish containing lungs, so maybe that's your way to heaven? ;) (Actually I know that CAKES are your way to heaven!!) :)
Nice vid, interesting, yet controversial :) Pippa's recipe has taken you to one of the great debates... Is it really a pie with only a pastry crust. Most in the UK would say no. A pie, by definition, has the ingredients totally encased in pastry. Certainly in the North of England it does. And re the filling, a traditional S&K pie would contain only the meats, onion, and gravy. And the kidney, usually a smaller dice. Any other veg would be served on the side with the pie. And no mushrooms, save those for when making a steak and mushroom pie. All that said, it did look delicious. On a personal note, i'd also drop the Guinness. Steak and ale is classic, but I think Guinness too strong. I think you're more likely to get a 'funky' taste off the Guinness (it's quite bitter) rather than the meats. Maybe if you make it again for yourself in the future you could try it without the Guinness. You'd certainly notice the difference, and see which you preferred :)
Thank you for watching and writing such a long comment!!! :) Haha, oh dear, Pippa's controversial recipe...! ;) I did follow all her instructions and must say that I really liked the taste of the dish. (I also really love mushrooms, always have, and was very happy to have them in the filling, haha!) Oh, and it wasn't Guinness, it just said that on the glass, that was a bit misleading - sorry!
@@MissAnglophilia Yes, Pippa's is a funny one, I've never seen a S&K pie like that, ever. I wonder if it's a family recipe or something... I'd ask here but i don't think we move in quite the same social circles :)
@@jfergs.3302 She does have some family recipes in her book (her granny's signature cake for example), so maybe that's really the case. If "Miss Anglophilia" ever turns out to be a big thing and I might meet Pippa, I shall ask her! ;)
Yeah I know, it looked pretty "challenging"! ;) :) It felt quite wobbly too. :) My grandmother used to make a Bavarian dish with lungs which is very tasty, so I came to appreciate the taste. Berlin is famous for a dish with liver, which is also really good. You might try it once? ;)
@@MissAnglophilia poor offal gets a bum rap. Though i do like the flavour of kidney more than the texture :) But liver cooked properly is a thing of beauty. Cut it thin, and flash fry it. makes a crust on the outside, and leaves the inside soft, and still pink. done right it's almost like hot pate.
