Alhamdulila.. a Great show .. great host, competent Guest and diverse discussion. I’m Pakistan we have so many economy experts, from different ages & financial expertise, but in 75 years, our country is on downward spiral, while we can’t even compare with Bangladesh, let alone India who is in totally big 5 giants of the world. Even though the discussion was amazing, but when it comes to discussing success of india, our default “Mutalya-e-Pakistan” imbibed mindset come into action. We don’t have audacity to accept the reality how fast india has grown in last 10 years, but our scholars & intellects are muddled in 70s . Our collective wisdom is inversely proportional to the quantum leaps in science & technology.
No hope for our country in near future unless the chronic establishment disinfects itself from political engineering.

Bro dont feel sad. In fact pakistan's GDP growth rate from 1947-1990 *WAS HIGHER THAN INDIA* . It was only in 2007 that india managed to overtake pak in gdp per capita. So ur assumption that Pakistan has done nothing in 75 years is wrong. In fact out of those 75 years pakistan's gdp growth rate has been higher than india for about 40+ years.
India's GDP growth rate from 1947-1991 is a pathetic 3% . Gdp per capita growth rate is even worse at 1.5%. Pakistan had much better growth than india.
It is only after 2000 that things started to change for india and finally india grew.
Regarding *india in big5 of the world* . What big 5 r u talking about?? Top5 in corruption, rape, riots, malnourishnent, poverty, illiteracy???
If u r talking about GDP then my friend absolute GDP means nothing. What matters is Gdp per capita how much rich an average person is and on that parameter india is at 155th position in world out of 190+. So india hasn't achieved anything if we compare it's performance with Singapore, china, japan, south Korea, Vietnam, indonesia, taiwan etc

In Orissa there was a super cyclone in 2000 where 10k people died. Since then got formed a national disaster relief force. They are very well equipped for relief of all kinds and also the various agencies from weather dept to police local , state and central departments have improved coordination. Not ideal but much better. Similarly Bangladesh used to have thousands of deaths in floods which is now reduced in last 2 decades even while cyclones have increases. Please see where the administration is failing in Pakistan- what has happened is very sad indeed.

Kudos to both shehzad and Uzair for an amicable discussion on political economy. Being a patriotic Pakistani American, I can’t understand the judgemental and preconceived notions our people have about this BJP Hindutva thing in every discussion? Only & only is Pakistanis are the one who try to portray as leader of Islamic countries and we act like torch bearers for islamophobia .. while forgetting what crimes our state and subjects are doing in the name blasphemy. No other Muslim country has such radicalized and extremist population as ours, but we as a country rank worst in corruption, judiciary, education , health, sports and passports etc. it’s not only sad but frustrating that we are trying our best to show india in despicable way. Just the fact that being a nuclear country, we are begging for 1 billion dollars to run our state, and still have the guts to call out india who have 600 billion in reserves. I too was infected by such mentality unless I moved to USA -Canada as undergrad and then confronted the shocking truths and the lies we propagate back in Pakistan.

Very nice podcast. India’s growth story started after 1991 LPG reform, done by the rightist congress, pushed by IMF, before that congress was very leftist. Around the same period, Hindutva started taking pace in India (Babri demolition, 1992) triggered by pak-sponsored Islamic terrorism, (many blasts, pandits genocide 1990). Now after 2014, Hindutva started taking over India's foreign ideological mental slavery (Islamic, colonialist, communist) and getting back to its Hindutva/sanatani roots…though foreign ideologies, especially communist/leftist, are still dominant in India (couldn’t let farm law passed, one of the best reforms of Hindutva India). Now if you notice, the most painful economic reforms and infra transformations are done by Hindutva India (Atal & Modi)..I would argue, that coming back of Hindutva/real India is beneficial. Also for Pak, H-India seems good, as pak is trying to come out of Kashmir obsession and trying to move towards geo-economic. SCO, Mod called for free transit policy, Modi the Hindutva leader asking liberal Pakistani leader for mobility and connectivity. The thing is People have no idea about Hindutva, it’s totally opposite of Abrahamic religions. You can say its an advanced version of polytheistic greeks that led western roman empire to get out of Abrahamic dark ages when these greeko polytheistic liberal tolerant scholars ran to western empire after the fall of Constantinople. Hindutva is the advanced libertarian philosophy (titis were freed 1000s of yrs ago, brahm is seen in everything, so much studies were done on sex & kamasutra was created, art music dance is related to spiritual evolution, sculptures depicting love carved on temple, 100s of different philosophies, millions of gods, etc. etc. there are many more but does it sound opposite to Islam or Abrahamic religion) the ultimate philosophy of Hindutva is Moksha (true freedom or liberty), not slavery of any god, the realization of god/brahm in yourself - does it sound like empowerment!! the more India move towards its root, the more liberal, free, tolerant, scientific, prosperous, educated, curious it becomes…not only economic freedom, also see recent foreign policy, India been playing the most liberal, free, neutral foreign policy.. Hindutva is gonna disappoint to even liberal Pakistani until they come out of their foreign mental slavery (leftist/communist, Islamic, colonists) and come back to their Hindutva/sanatani roots. I guess it will take another 25 yrs when India starts leading the world. Hopefully, it may give you a little different perspective of Hindutva, I am working on a very interesting book. Thanks and Good Luck guys!!

Look at your self in Modi's first tenure the most controversial thing was CAA/NRC that too at end of tenure..while numerous religious controversy have taken in just last 3 years...
Reason??..the reason lies that when modi right wing fails to put a success in economy (they loose support of economic right wing voters) ...
To concentrate the narrative around themselves they left with no choice but actually having religious controversy here and there...

The reality is India actually don't have many right wing parties for competition and neither bjp performs that good in state elections....the state control is extremely weak cause power runs down to states...
Remember the farm bills..it was just one small state of 2.6 crores.. punjab..the power dynamics are completely different than a power center Rawalpindi for say which is ultimate power authority...
Also Indian public mood shifts too..for example the State of gujrat..the modi is from there.. what's happening AAP is actually entering the state and gaining votes ....
Modi is needed cause without a strong central government India isn't going to have reforms.. everytime a reform comes the protests for it are enormous..

Literally every week we see violence, barbarism, inhumanity. People getting killed for being mistaken as Muslim, chants of mulle kate jayenge, gen0_cidal slogans on the streets of Delhi, in joggers parks, in markets. Boycott calls - Boycott of street vendors, shops, businesses, in jobs, even from hospitals, coaching centers. Many of them getting attacked, beaten up, threatened on live video. Kids being threatened and asked to chant Allah madarchod on video. Videos of Ms on road getting hit on purpose causing accident. Lynchings. Murders. Shootings. Bulldozing of houses, and the macabre celebrations on media and social media. Arrest of innocent (even of kids and 90yr olds) under NSA,UAPA. Police going inside neighborhoods and houses and destroying property. Attack on mosques, bulldozing of madarsas. Those who expose your lies and propaganda are also targeted, attacked, jailed.
      See any of it?
People who criticize the PM or CM, get life imprisonment. Not a single media exists that utters a word of criticism against Modi. Violent rapists & baby killers in communal riots are pardoned by the govt. Actual saffron terrorists are elected as MPs by margins of 300K votes. Lynchers are garlanded. People who shoot at MPs like Owaisi are out in bail and openly threaten to do it again. Bulldozing of houses in lawless fashion.
10000+ arrested under NSA, UAPA. 4000+ cases of ED filed against opposition leaders. Every single day there is some CBI case against opposition leader. Sikhs doing Langar in Shaheen bagh arrested in NSA. Drama group members doing sit in protest arrested. Tribal activists, social workers & lawyers like Sudha Bharadwaj, Stan Swamy, various others arrested. Sonu Sood raided after he was made ambassador for some cause in AAP govt.
There is not a single state opposition govt that isn't toppled or broken by use of every possible force.
There is radio rawanda level communal incitement, on every medium, every channel, every day. And apparently this is not enough, we need more communalism for the daily fix of of the now radicalized masses.
Billionaires from crony industries hoarding all the wealth, and leading to rise in inequality.
What is happening in India under Modi right now is a level of evil that can match, if not exceed the worst of the worst.

When he said thier are two India. I was like dude you are 100% right. What is true about India is also false about India and what is false about India is also true about India. Here you will find the most intelligent people in the world, the kind of people you can not find anyone else but you will also come across the dumbest people. Here you will find girls in bikinis and short dresses but thier are also girls covered from top to bottom. You will find extremely religious people here but you will also find people who don't give a fuck to religion. Thier are always two Indias. We are somewhat stuck. We want to westernize ourselves and actually we are very westernized but at the same time we are not willing to give up on our roots and culture. Countries like china and south Korea have given up thier native culture but Indians are not willing to completely give up thier culture. For us it is a matter of pride. India was like this since antiquity. When I look at ancient India, I see a contrast. Sex and materialistic life is exalted. Books like kamasutra are written. Sex is glorified. Sex temples are made. Money is considered godess lakshmi. But at the same time, I see sects like buddhism and jainism where so much emphasis is given on non violence and monasticism. Sex is not celebrated in Buddhism and jainism. Monasticism and celibacy is celebrated.
Then comes mediaeval age. Thier are instances of intolerance, destruction of temples, conversions but thier are also instances of tolerance and syncretism. Akbar, sufi chishtis, bhakti saints, Kabir etc are all examples of religious-social syncretism.
As as someone who has studied history, I have a habit of drawing parallels between past and present.
Vedas were composed on the banks of river Sindhu. Describing sindhu river they say that it is wild and ferocious, it is difficult to control. They appreciate sindhu but are also scared of it. When xuan-zang, a Chinese traveller came to India to collect Buddhist texts from Nalanda university, he literally drowned in sindhu because it's flow was si heavy. Babur also had difficulty in crossing Sindhu. He had to construct a Flotilla of boats to cross sindhu.
The literal meaning of Sindhu is border and it was truly the border. It was only after crossing the Sindhu that India started.
The history of Indian subcontinent is beautiful. Thier is a sense of romanticism in it. Though today we have changed, new political structures have evolved, new social cultural forms have emerged but the soul of India is still the same.

The best you can do in such a situation is to sell of the apartment and pay for the education of kids. On the other hand a couple with just 1-2 kids will really be able to transfer the apartment as an asset to the next generation. Pakistan should first focus on reducing population growth before anything else.

@@prateekmahapatra1789 it’s not about partition. The biggest affectees of partition were punjabis (Muslim and non-Muslim). They still hold longing for each other.
The trouble really is between Hindus and Muslims. Hindus feel they were victimised by Muslims for about 1000 years and we need to make amends for this injustice.
But what they’re not realising is that ‘those injustices’ were between the rulers. The common people on both sides were just collateral damage. When common Hindus speak of getting even, they’re getting even against the same body of people who had no voice back then or even today.
Muslim side of the grievance is confused and stupid. Confused because they ditch their own heritage and chase heritage and glory from other people. If the Mughals ruled India. A poor Muslim farmer (like our family) in Punjab did not benefit. But when Ranjeet Singh ruled, this was the glory of Punjabis. That’s what Punjabi’s should celebrate.

Beautiful discussion. Unfortunately, this too was a discussion of some problems with either no or unrealistic solutions e.g. "we should do police reforms", why would the status quo do that??
1:11:00 here is your answer, imho:
Sustainable change can’t come unless the building block of society, the unit of the country, i.e. the common man doesn’t demand it. All else will fail. When the need will come from the grassroot level, then & only then will those in power feel the heat to change things. The million dollar question is how will this happen? There is no short cut. Spreading awareness about what is going on i.e. oligarchy/elite capture etc., just like you are doing, is the only way forward.
Once ample people become aware over time, a critical mass will develop which then may bring the tipping point. Some of it is dependent on chance also which I equate to Will of Allah. To reach there, you should follow your passion of bringing awareness. Maybe you will be one of the many who nurtured this sapling which probably will grow tall enough to bear fruit for others to eat, but not you.

At 1:54:15 you just brushed aside population burst in Pakistan without discussing it as it has got religious connotation. You also seems to be afraid of Labaik. India is also suffering because of population-generating-machines, who on an average produce minimum 4 children, in the name of religion.

At micro level, better see in hinterlands of Bihar, UP, MP, etc where people under the influence of their religious beliefs still aspire to have multiple marriages and infinite children, thanks to Govt subsidy schemes. In cities and metros, people including educated lot (who are not influenced by religious beliefs and who want to have quality life), tend to have not even 2 children. If you put out all this on big canvass, you can achieve the results you have quoted.

India's fertility rate in fact has been consistently declining. Just few decades ago it used to be above 5 . Now it is less than 2.3 and declining as well. Only UP and Bihar are booming. In fact many states have fertility rate below 2 . Ppl make mistakes when they look India from above from a macro lens. U need to go inside and go deep to see where population is booming and where it is going down. In states like tamilnadu population is actually AGEGING fast.

I don’t like how the host simply criticizes different parties for coming up with different names for essentially the same initiative, even though the programs were positive in nature such as Benazir/Ehsas Program. Who cares if PTI changed the name and the fact it may take credit away from PPP? One of the reasons why Pakistan is where it is today is due to lack of successive govts continuing policies that are actually good for long term growth. Meanwhile we’d rather play the blame game for the next 40 years just like we have with the last 40

I have heard him talk about Indian progress profoundly and then suddenly but when a saw him taking 180 turn and talking about Hindutva, while generalising it and giving out false propaganda majorly projected by the very left side of the political spectrum. Sometimes I think Ghias sahib is selective in his analysis against the establishment. For ex his point that the civilians at the end of the day have to be accountable to their constituents, whereas the miltestablishment doesn't. The miltestablishment is also acutely attuned to the sentiment of the its constituents, which is the rank and file, which draws from the general population. In that sense isnt it more accountable than the politicians that depend on patronage? Not defending the establishment or their machinations by any means...just think we do the cause a disservice by painting them as the root cause if all problems
