- This one is an unintentional comparison in lav audio vs. a Rode shotgun mic, a big whinge about ABV and chill-filtering and almost missing out on a wee drip of precious 25yo liquid.
Again, I'm not getting through the whisky as quickly as usual due to less visitor traffic/sharing opportunities during lockdown. Still, the number of high scorers here suggests I'm drinking well despite it.

Been FAR too long since we had one of these. And, I was previously a huge promoter of Glendronach, but at this point, I just won't buy that any longer. Definitely a huge shame.

Lucky to have tried the majority of these whiskies including the Glengoyne 25 year old. A few have been dram swaps, a few have been sipped in the Whisky clubs I'm in. Wonderful community. All the best chap👍

Absolutely loved the ending of this recycle review. Surly there was nothing left in the Glengoyne 25 bottle.
The original and always the best! Roy, I really can't say it enough. I love every minute of these videos. Production, visuals, and of course your insights. My take away usually connects to available and price so while I loved all your thoughts, I really appreciated that Glen Scotia Double Cask, Glengoyne 10, Arran 10 are all good and affordable. I have not grabbed the 15, but is is twice the price so not right now. Loved the cut-away. Humanizing and fun. Sad about GlenDronach. Really, a crying moment for us enthusiasts. All that said, the Glengoyne 25 sounded amazing. Maybe when I win the lottery! Cheers my friend.

There are others such as Arran 18, the new release form Brackla and the Glenturret 12, none are cheap, but not so far away from what we were happy to pay for natural GD15 Revival. Cheers Jonathan!

These reviews are so full of good information and punctuated with your warmth and wit. Your passion as an enthusiast is energizing. Great to see the recycled videos making a welcome comeback, Roy. Very interesting batch here, and with almost all of your comments and impressions I can see common ground. On one score, however, I'll differ. Here in Germany the Knockando 21 is bottled at 43% (not 40%) and can be picked up for around €65, which is still a bargain basement price for any malt of that age. I'm on my second bottle of it at the moment. It's not that it goes quickly, because it doesn't, it's just that it offers even reasonable competition to a superb daily dram such as Benromach 10 at 43%, which is saying something, despite the massive difference in age. If you look long enough - and let it breathe long enough, there is a modicum of complexity there. Nothing like a Glengoyne 21, I'm not referring to that, but a complexity all the same. I had to get over my own chauvinism to admit it, but I like this for what it offers at this price. I just can't think of another 21-year-old whisky which is such a bargain (even the Glenfarclas 21yo has increased significantly in price over the last three years). So, I wouldn' just buy the Knockando for a newbie, I'd give it to someone who's already tried a number of Scottish whiskies and who may have hitherto avoided this one due to its conspicuously low price. You could do a helluva lot worse! Cheers.
All fair points Russel, and I may have been a little harsho on a mature whisky for such an accessible price - but if it was a wee bit higher in ABV, natural colour and no oils stripped - would you pay another €20? I know I would. Still, you make valid points that I hope are woven into the purchase process for the community. Cheers Russel.

I have recommended this to some friends who are getting into whisky, having a comparison between different whiskies is especially useful for them to get an idea if they will like a potential purchase.

It's gratifying to see you confirm my own view on bourbon abv. Tells me I'm not imagining it. 45% should absolutely be the minimum, bare minimum, I would even say 50%. I recall your disappointment with the euro-version of Buffalo Trace at 40%, what a shame! Ideally bourbon should be barrel strength, it needs it more than malt. Yes, there are exceptions, but they succeed despite the lower abv, not because of it.
I don't want to knock an entire category that I'm very much enjoying, but it's true for me. Barrel strength bourbon is something to enjoy understand while you still breathe.
We here in America are working through a labor shortage. Long long hours. To stressed to "appreciate" my good bottles. This was so refreshing to watch! I share many of your opinions and scores.

Wonderful work as always. I love Deanston whiskys and I have fallen in love with the new Arran releases. The 10 year and the Quarter Cask are wonderful. The presentation of the Quarter Cask, at 56.2 % ABV, is something to behold. I have backup bottles of both Deanston and Arran whiskys.
Another great recycled review. I particularly enjoyed the criticism being taken up a notch too.
I invented a new drinking game. I had a drink every time you said “enthusiast”! 🤣🤣

Great to see a recycled and bravo for saying what you said about Glendronach. I think Ralfy's suspicion regarding the new label is correct. Why else would you do it? I think we should call out distilleries and practices that are shamefully exploiting us. I really don't care for how shabbily Springbank treat their U.K customers. This last year it was impossible to buy the 12 unless you were in with a member of the trade. Anyway, we caught you drinking out the bin again didn't we. That's proper whisky drinking. WT

I love these recycled reviews Roy. The Clynelish 14 is fantastic, Arran and Deanston are doing great things and I have a bottle of Glen Scotia 15 winking at me as we speak. I also think the Cotswolds whisky for £30 on offer is a no brainer, lots of fruit and it drinks a lot older than four. Knob Creek Small Batch has the 9 year old age statement back and I loved it, 50% ABV for £35 and I would recommend it if you can get it as an every day bourbon. Cheers Roy!

This type of review is something that's missing on the Internet for so many products: long term retrospectives. The fact that you've experienced every bottle from neck pour down to the fumes and had the opportunity to contrast them with whatever else you've been sipping makes it so much more likely that you're able to tell us about it from all angles. I think that allows you to really give it a fair relative valuation instead of getting stuck in one line of thinking and viewing a particular bottle too narrowly compared to what else we could be spending our money on.

I solved the Campbeltown problem a couple of weeks ago by jumping on the ferry at Ardrossan and driving back home with armfuls of Campbeltown whisky. Not long earlier the bloke in a whisky shop in Edinburgh told me that even the Springbank 10yo, when they have some to sell, are one per customer
I think you're strategy of making the most of location is a good one. enjoy it and savour the privilege. I hope some more makes it out for the rest of us soon! (Not holding my breath!)

100% agree on Glendronach! They don't exist to me anymore. No need to buy out the previous stock, unless discounted. It's not that it isn't a great malt, it's just that there ARE plenty of fish in the sea. Thank you for being brutally honest, Roy.

Good to see these reviews back. Hope you had a great summer. The standard Ardmore was a good inexpensive entry to peated highland scotch whisky. The GS 15 is worth it, have yet to try double cask. Glengoyne 21 is amazing for the price. I just passed on Cragganmore.

The Glenturret 12 is a little harder to find, they've also just released their 2021 version in the UK.

Saw Clynelish 14 on the shelf tonight. Don’t like the unneeded added color, but will try it based your review. Eagle Rare 10 is our house bourbon. We keep 4-6 bottles on the shelf. For the price, I don’t think you can beat it.
As always, amazing stuff Roy! Might just have to buy a bottle of that Glenturret and try to see over the age statement. On of my all time fav whiskies is a 7 year old Port Charlotte MRC:01 that sold for £90...

Agree 100% on the Springbank CS, so full of flavour, rich and powerful yet soft, wonderfully stuff. Sadly very hard to find these days without paying silly money, along with the entire range. In Germany at least.

Great to see another recycled review! Really love these. I happen to be enjoying a Glen Scotia Double Cask right now and had the Cragganmore last night. It's a shame that you must have the latter at 40% abv. I've never had a whisky at 40%, so I can't compare, but I think the Cragganmore at 43% is pretty good. Springbank 12 is one of the best drams I have ever had. I was fortunate to buy one and am really sad that it's so rare.
Thanks Willem! The more we talk about Springbank - the harder it gets to secure. Hey ho... It's a great model for making whisky and it still needs to be celebrated. Don't get me started on the 43% export strength thing!
