Brilliant review Ralfy!! Non chill filtered, no colour additive, braille labelling, simple packaging, lovely bottle design, 46%, age statement, brilliant pricing policy and a wonderful whiskey. This is simply the best whiskey 'package' that I have experienced in 30 years. Well done Arran distillery and well done Ralfy. This distillery puts 90% of it's competitors to shame, Simply outstanding!
The price of this on Amazon has gone up by about £9 overnight! Clearly the algorithm is well attuned to the Ralfy effect!
Isle of Arran is still my favourite distillery closely followed by Bruichladdich. The 12-year-old cask strength is still the best cask strength that I've owned. Would love to see another review of that one Ralfy!
My favorite as well, but my second is Glenfarclas. I like everything about the Classic Bruichladdich except the age. It's a few years too young and harsh for me. Too bad, because I really dig the bottle and the bottle code that you can enter on their web site to see the details of that particular blend.
I was on Arran in February to visit the Distillery after 15 years since my last tour - still a great tour & welcome with generous dram tastings - can happily recommend the tour and whiskies - then the bad weather cancelled the ferries back, so had to spend three days on the island! Meant another Arran Distillery tour 😀 & also a visit/tour to Lagg - happy days - Arran Whisky ++++ 🥃
Arran are a breath of fresh air in the industry. Innovative and protective of their processes and presentation. A thoroughly young and modern thinking distillery. That 10 year old is a stunner.
My wife and I visited the distillery & we just made the last tour of the day. We were the only ones on it so it was very a personalised & enjoyable tour.
Just finishing a dram ( my first ) of this along with Ralfy and I must say had I been served this blind I would never have guessed it as a distillery so new and age so young - by far and away the most impressive 10 year old dram I have had and yes I am getting the 18 year expression also now - thx ralfy ( deserves to be whisky of the year ! )
Ralfy is someone who can really appreciate a well crafted standard whisky. :) It doesn't always have to be something fancy 🤷♂️
@Ben Kiser indeed it doesn't! I just wanted to express that a lot of "advanced" whisky drinkers seem to only appreciate the extremes nowadays while neglecting inexpensive standard whiskies just for the fact that of what they are... 🤷♂️

After being dissatisfied with the last two bottles of Glenfiddich 12 I traveled to another state just to get Glengoyne 10 because of your review. It is a game changer for me. A nice soft malt that's like velvet and honey. Now I see the difference. I struggled with Arran 10 five years ago but Im going to give it another go now that I enjoy Ardbeg 10 and Craigellachie 13.

Great review. The Arran 10 really is great value for money. The NAS wine finishes are some of Scotland's best kept whisky secrets. They ought to put an 8 years age statement on them.
Used to go to the Arran whisky festival every year. Beautiful Island and beatiful whisky!
I love arran whisky, it doesnt matter how cheap or expensive a whisky is from there, u can always tell by taste its arran. This 10 used to be £37 in booths supermarket only a few months ago. Now its £32 standard price. I tend to buy arran even over many big names with reduced prices. I can highly recommend the arran whisky tour. When i went a couple of years ago, after the tour i stayed behind and got to try many whiskys even expensive whiskys on the house. What this did was to create a brand image within me and i have bought many bottles since in there core range. On a negative note some people say the old arran 10 bottle tasted better than the new one.
Also i once went to the distillery on Mull, only they didnt want to fit me in saying all tours were full for the day. While this was true and i appreciate health and safety regulations a tour is the best way to sell the whisky not just on that day but in the future. I think they could of done more to squeeze me in as i am an ideal customer for them. No such problems with the whisky tour of Arran. Cant wait to see the new distillery. Its worth noting for the next couple of months its difficult to get a crossing to the island, not sure if this is reduced capacity of the ferry because of covid or people travelling to Scotland for a holiday to avoid quarantine.
Beautiful stuff. Lovely, really lovely. The 2021 bottling is slightly different but as good if not better.
Great stuff. The kind you love to share, so I'll be picking up another bottle to bring to a BBQ in a couple of weeks. A perfect dram for a warm late Spring/early Summer event.

Thanks Ralfy ! Nice referral! With added drop of water 💧 it settled down nicely! It definitely Utilized the h2o and allowed the bouquet of honeydew to come forward ! The dryness faded with water .. really complex dram!
Finally manged to pick up a bottle of this and the 14 (little older release, stuff in the green and purple tubes). I don't doubt there are differences between my 10 and this newest one, but decided to follow the review along with tasting the 10 anyway, just out of curiosity and fun.
Though I will say, I think the words "absolutely delightful" describe it perfectly well.

Ralfy - Well met! It's been a while since I've been acquainted with your channel, a few years at least. Very happy to see the growth your channel has achieved. I'm an American that moved to Great Britain this year (yes, it's been wild thanks to COVID) and I've been so happy with the wider selection of excellent scotch available to me here in England compared to my native Virginia. I bought this bottle on Amazon yesterday (it was discounted) and I have to say I agree with every word of your review here. This is, especially for the price I paid, a remarkable glass of whisky. Very enjoyable, I find the nose of this one to be my absolute favourite of any I've had since arriving here in Great Britain. Stay safe, many thanks for the continued great content :)
This is one of the first whiskies I ever truly fell in love with, beautiful stuff even more So because of its young age! Must have in every bar👌🏻
Excellent review as always, Ralfy! This is exactly the integrity I look for in a whisky and I bought this without reservation when I first saw it. I loved the retired 14 yo and this is another example of how a focus on quality results in quality.
The 14yo is retired??? Nooooooooooooo! I only just discovered it. Oh cruel fate.
I'm glad this got a high mark because it confirms my opinion that it's a corner. I don't have such a sophisticated palate so even clod-hoppers like me can appreciate it. One thing you didn't mention was the repackaging: a bit jazzy before and now more rustic looking. And what a lovely bottle. I've soaked the labels off and more it's being used for dried flowers. I will soon be buying my third bottle. A reasonable price as well.

I bought this based on this review and I am tremendously impressed. It will be one of my favourites. I know Arran as I happened upon the Amarone and it has been a favourite of mine for some time. It whets my appetite for the other types from Arran. Keep up your great reviews Ralfy.
Ahh :) Arran 10 year old. I bought a bottle a couple of years ago when you Ralfy suggested it - because I was bored to tears with sherry - over influenced single malts. Love it. (and I have recovered my sherry palate thanks to you Ralfy)..

Braille is useful in a blind tasting. But what a neat way of showing respect to those who need Braille.
The old bottling of Arran 10 is the highest price/quality ratio malt I've tasted so far. Got a bottle of the new one but haven't opened it yet.
Both old and new bottlings go for the equivalent of around 27 euro where I live.
Just ordered an Arran 10... really looking forward to try it.
Just cracked a bottle. 70 USD after taxes. Absolutely worth it. A quality malt. Better than most 12s I’ve had and even up there with some 15 year bottlings. Whatever they are doing at arran they are doing it right.
In Germany this one is below 30 EUR and I just have to say: this is such a good value for money🤘🤘.

Thank you Ralfy for recommending this. I've had my share of malts, rums and cognacs and for a 10 year old this is on the same level of quality as Springbank 10 in my book - no questions asked! Absolutely beautiful, I even have slight tropical fruits in the nose which is amazing for a 10 year old whisky. Plus I was able to buy this for €27.50 - I'm buying 5 more.
Love this review Ralfy. Got a bottle of the Arran 21 sitting in my cupboard currently (unopened!). Think after this review the 10 may well become one of my 'go to' whiskies very soon. I think along with my bottle of Aberlour 10, for the money you simply cannot go wrong! Cheers and take care mate.

But actually a good suggestion. Starting from the younger ages whiskies, I will begin to learn the character of the spirit and then find how it matured through the years and in different casks.
I’m seriously going to start following this new rule “often”.

Ralfy, how about one of those cask finishes from Arran? The Amarone is outstanding if you love the heavy tannic impact of the wine influence.
I love the old school, almost medicinal label on this. I wish more large distilleries were understated like this.

Picked up old label bottles of Arran 10, 14 and 18 at reduced price here down under, last year tried their red wine cask version Cotie-Rotie which was amazing. I have the previous bottle of Arran 10 year old. I happen to like the labeling on the previous bottle as compared to this newer one, visually that is. Although it had more colors and appealing font style, I dont think the previous label had the braille. That is definitely a nice touch for thinking of the visually impaired when labeling their bottles.
Corona has stolen my taste for 3 months now, i haven’t been able to enjoy a glass a single time since may. sucks. Make sure to value the ability to taste and enjoy!!

@@FirstPhilWhisky It shouldn't, most of the countries that did well in the first place seem to be continuing to do well, like japan, south korea, germany, and NZ. I think it's because most people take the virus seriously there, whereas there's loads of folk I've met who think it's just a cold
Got myself a bottle of this for Christmas. I'm not an expert (the opposite in fact); the smell is amazing. The taste needs time to come out -- found the taste opened up more once it was a while in the bottle (and the bottle not full).
Thanx god, Arran is somehow a very popular whisky in Hungary. It’s fair priced, good quality, so well deserved it’s popularity by the local malt drinkers. Sometimes there are some special bottlingscfor Hungary, usualy Tokaji cask finished.
@@peatlatakia6308 sometimes good, sometimes not. Tokaji Aszú wine is very very sweet, and has it’s own strong flavor. Imho the second fill cask are perfect for finishing or for maturation. Or instead of aszú, they should use a less agressive wine from Tokaj. Now i’m drinking a 23 years old Tobermory, finished in refill Tokaji cask, and it’s just perfect! Wilson and Morgan did it.
One of the best 10yo out there. Certainly not cheap in my market (3-5 pounds more than other popular 10yos) but it's worth every penny spent.

No review of Arran " The Bothy " ? 55%, NCF, no coloring and it's made in a bothy. What's not to like ?
It does not have an age statement, so Ralfy will not review it (even if he might recommend it).
@@RaeucherLaX True, but "The Bothy" does clearly state on the label that it's matured for 8 years in bourbon casks and 2 years in quarter casks. One of my favourite versions from one of my favourite distilleries.

I bought a bottle of Arran 10 after watching this review. Its lovely stuff. Almost got an Irish Whiskey taste to it. Like a distant wilder cousin of green spot.
Definitely one of my favourite distilleries out there. The 10 is a belter as is the rest of their range. Visited the distillery and her sister at Lagg last year and both were very good and welcoming. I hope they keep,their standards up. :-)

Tasting and nosing this at the same time together with my girlfriend - we find the same character in the Arran NAS 1/4 Cask : alot of apples (fresh green in the younger NAS one and sweet orchard notes in the 10 yo) and notes of lemon peel! Great distillery so far, curious to try their older ones
Purchased the Arran 18yo on your recommendation of it, still waiting for it to arrive, can’t wait.

Nice review Ralfy. Made my mind up to buy a bottle,and im enjoying it.I totally agree with the strong sweet honey notes. Which makes me ask the question ,do they put honey in it???or is that a trade secret??? or is it just naturally how it comes out the barrel after 10 years.

Just back from a week on Arran visted both the Lochranza and Lagg distillery and really loved the Island. I even managed a walk up Goat fell.

Got a gift a year back, the Arran sherry cask finish, was delicious. Need to try some of their age statement malts because if they keep up with their quality and consistency I can see many fans supporting them, myself included.
The sherry cask is really good! I also like their nas the bothy an port cask finish. An with an age statement i do recomend the 12 yo cask strengt. An if you can find it the 14 yo. They dont make it No more sadly! An if you have a little extra coin to spend their 18yo is really epic.

Good Day Ralfy! SULFUR!!! I am sure it is not possible for you to read all of the comments however I would be interested for you to do an extras or at least comment on single malts that some reviewers seem to focus on. SULFUR and sulfur notes in the aroma and palate and how that either enhances or ruins the single malt experience.

Yup!! I bought a bottle of Springbank 15 recently that is very sulfered - as in rotten eggs, not matchsticks. You know, I spent my hard earned money on this bottle, was really looking forward to it, wanting it for a long time and what a disappointment. I've had it open for 5 months or so now and although it's changed a little bit, it's not an enjoyable dram. I love to share, but this is one I'm keeping to myself. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be buying another Springbank 15. I've had the great fortune to have tried several Arrans lately, guess who just bought a couple 18's and a 10? Things are looking up!
@@tjross1313 I had a similar experience with the springbank 15 yr old but it took about a year for me to start enjoying it. I bough another more recently and was very impressed and enjoyed it much much more!!

After Ralfy reviewed the 10 yr old five years ago, my county made a price mistake in selling it....I bought a few bottles and tucked one away for a rainy day....eventually they figured out the error and it went back up to normal price.....looking forward to trying this bottling too!!

Arran have been making high quality whisky for some time now but are often overlooked. Ditto for Balblair, English Whisky Co, AnCnoc.
I’ve got a bottle of Arran Nauticus stored upstairs out of temptations way. It is a cracking dram, only available at auction. The Nauticus pub in Leith
Has one bottle planked downstairs. None left for sale and I don’t know if it will get opened
I agree this is very good. I am comparing at the very moment with Glenlivet 18 and 21 and Arran 10 beats them both! Ralfy, do you think this would be better than Chivas 25?
Sadly, this is not currently available in my area (Ontario, Canada). There are a few Arran choices, but nothing with an age statement.
Don't be too upset, all of the NAS releases I've had from Arran have been really good, especially the sauternes finish.
@@thegreatmothra I can get a remarkably affordable one (Robert Burns), the Bothy quarter cask, as well as the Port, Amarone and Sauternes finish options. The Burns is $52 (Canadian dollars), vs. $84-89 for the others. The quarter cask definitely sparked my interest - but at 56% it would be the strongest scotch I've tried.
Get the Amarone cask if you can. I went to an official Arran tasting in London and it was my pick.
@@ArcheryTalkVideo I haven't had the Bothy or Burns releases yet. The Amarone is very good, but quite an unusual sweet and sour grapefruit flavour profile. Don't be afraid of the strength though, that's what water is for!

90 points is a very high score! Suddenly!!! I tasted this whiskey, the aftertaste is very short and weak. A review on my channel is coming soon!
I don't really agree with this score tbh. The aftertaste is non-existent and the Arran 10 has a very unpleasant tingly sour sensation on the tongue and a pineapple note in there that doesn't fit well with all the honey.
It took a while (3 days open and 3 drams) But as I opened the bottle tonight I was taken straight to a Dunnage warehouse. I'd like to think it was Bruichladdich's. Bingo.

Arran is delicious especially when drinking it on the beach just down the road from the brewery.

Could you review Arran Amarone please? Amarone is a dry wine, so I've heard and you probably know, but It would be a good one so that we know what kind, and how much, of an influence that dry wine cask would have on, what I've heard, a relatively sweeter scotch. And of course your opinion on good, bad, or otherwise. Thanks Ralfy!
