- A few things of note; it's slower getting these out to you - with Lockdown I've had less people visit to get through the whisky at the required rate. Also, I've been drinking less "poor" whisky during that same time, so this review is a smorgasbord of good stuff. It is what it is. I must try harder.

Everytime I see these reviews I kind of have to think of your neighbours....what are they doing in the meantime? I imagine: "Martha, Martha....come over, the young guy over the street is standing in his driveway again...taking care of his carbage...filming it and drinking heels from the bottles...."

You may laugh, but it's absolutely true. There have been days where I won't film out of respect to neighbours relaxing in their gardens! They're respectfully curious, but probably put it down to a mental health issue. Which, of course, it is.
Finding a new recycled review in the youtube feed is like finding an unopened treasure-box. Thank you for that!

I was listening to the video on my laptop in the living room and found the volume really low....so I connected via Bluetooth to the speaker in the kitchen. Just then, Roy threw his first bottle into the bin...SMASH ...my poor wife jumped in fright, thinking perhaps a shelf had collapsed behind her....

Good stuff as usual Roy, always love the bits at the end. That Glendronach 12 is a unique one as one of the few 43% NCF Whisky's. Only others I have seen are the Compass Box Great King st. blends. Cheers

Great reviews as always Roy. You bring up the issue of price on a number of occasions throughout subconsciously or not and how that is influencing your purchasing decisions. We always do that, of course, and the price of whisky is what it is but I find that a lot of good whiskys I enjoy are no longer guaranteed repurchases or I buy them less frequently because I don't think they're worth it. I would never buy the F&F Dailuaine or Glen Elgin, for example, when I can buy very good independent bottles of those distilleries far cheaper. I love the Yellow Spot, which I would always have on my shelf, but I buy it only occasionally because it's £20 too expensive. There are some great bargains out there and an awful lot of overpriced stuff, good and bad, which, old hand that I am, is changing my drinking and purchasing habits. The issue of price/quality is now a major factor for me and I get the feeling it's on your mind too. How about bringing it up as a topic for a Thursday night? Hasta luego amigo.
Thant's why it's good to have you and your thoughts around Welsh, we don't nee dot agree but we need to hear each other's opinions. I'm tiring of the rising prices but you're right that it's become more acute, personally, as I watch the spending more and more. Things are about to get tight for a lot of people so working as a community to share where the value is becomes more important.

The Longrow Red 11 Pinot Noir is matured for 8 years in Bourbon followed by 3 years in Refill Pinot Noir casks.
A really tasty, jammy dram - delicious!

Wonderful Roy! As always educational and such fair reviews! I too love the Loch Lomond 12. Love pouring for friends as there is a complexity that needs a bit of experience to appreciate. On a blind tasting most thought it was a Campbeltown Whisky(which does make sense!). Now on the hunt for the Springbank Local Barley! Looking forward to Thursday’s Pub!!! Be safe and healthy Neal
LL12 has had marmite type results for me, but I enjoy the contrast it brings, and it can switch when you pour a second, the more challenging notes fade into fruit. Glad you like it Neal.

Another fantastic recycled review, Roy. That Longrow 11 Red - Pinot Noir bottle is fantastic, really been savouring my bottle of this - excellent value. Delicious jammy, peaty stuff! The Springbank Society Longrow 11 Recharred Sherry release from 2019 was also stunning, funky and oily, great exemplar of Longrow spirit character with some interesting cask notes

What a great on boarding platform to the RR series. The evangelism shown towards the Glendronach 12 really hit home. A whisky savvy coworker of mine whom I was with on a trip to Edinburgh a few summers ago espoused that yours truly as a new-to-whisky, but curious, person ought to grab a Glendronach 12 and not look back. Indeed after the jet lag wore off to Royal Mile Whiskies I went and the baton of knowledge was passed onwards. Love the airplane noise out take at the end btw!

A few friends and I visited Blair Athol and Aberfeldy distilleries on the 15th of this month and had a great time. I think the Blair Athol whisky along with the Benrinnes and Dailuaine bottlings are my personal three favourite F & F malts. I really enjoy these 'Recycled Reviews' because I always learn so much. I've got to try the Longrow RED, asI think wine aged whisky will only become more common if it is done well like that (I assume it's tricky though as the flavours probably clash a bit more than with fortified wine).
In countries like Australia, New Zealand I can imagine most of the distilleries will make some of their primary expressions in aged wine casks as it's much harder to source ex-bourbon or ex sherry casks, but both countries have decently sized wine industries with an abundance of ex-wine casks.
Yes, get a bottle of Longrow Red. You'll love it. The Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir are all amazing.

Not all wine casks sit well with me, in fact it's still the style I'm least likely to reach for, but the Longrows have been great, the rich savoury and sweet mix well with the heavy peat.
@@Aqvavitae It's great they have worked out the right balance. Because I feel like in theory, they shouldn't go well together. If I had a dram of whisky and added a tablespoon of port, I think it would still be perfectly drinkable. Not so sure though if I added a tablespoon of Pinot or Cab Sav however...

That was a nice touch to see the lorry rumbling down the street to come and take your empties away! And the heel on that Springbank Local Barley turned out to be almost two drams - definitely too good to neck it in front of the wheelie bin. Hope you enjoyed it later. With Glengoyne's Teapot Dram I sincerely hope they think of the economics of that price hike up to 120 quid for No. 7. If people buy it at 90 pounds and are inspired to pick up a second bottle, that's 180 quid they've invested in Glengoyne product. That's better than reluctantly forking out 120 quid for a single bottle and refraining from a second purchase. I think they've shot themselves in the foot on that score. And finally, Longrow Red is a real beauty, if you can find it. I've lapped up their last three releases and am looking forward to the next. Might we see the new Arran 10 in the next recycled edition? Or the Glen Scotia Victoriana? Cheers.
Cheers Russell! The Reds are something you prep for. Comfy chair, lights low, house quiet, all distractions terminated... and slide into the glass.
Arran 10 and Victoriana currently being enjoyed, but not que done yet.
I've been putting lots of thyme, garlic, hot peppers, salt, pepper, dill, spices in my left over bottles and filling it with vinegar. It makes an amazing sauce to put over basically anything. I bought several olive oil dispenser caps from amazon and they fit in most bottles. You leave it for a few weeks. I have several different batches. They are beautiful and a good use of the bottles.
Bottles that aren’t single use - sounds perfect. If it was me I worry I’d have far too much sauce (!)

Amazing recycled review as usual Roy🙂. Glad you are back from summer break. I felt the same way about Caol ila 15 good ...but not impressive at all. Did you get to try the Caol Ila Stitchell Reserve? You wouldn’t think it would be that good for a marketed NAS limited edition to send Billy Stichell off into retirement, but I thought it was incredible. It literally tasted like a delicious salted vanilla creme puff. You could definitely tell they used quality first fill bourbon casks. Cheers buddy🥃

I was surprised how much lockdown slowed the bottle kills!!
Aqvavitae ditto - my alcohol consumption fell through the floor (and it was pretty low anyway, maybe a dram or two a week max before, now a dram or two every 2 weeks)

These have to be an amazing spectacle for your neighbours. Once every 4-6 weeks Roy drinks from the bottle by the bin chatting away to himself.

So good to have another recycled review. Have you had the GoT Mortlach 15? I like it, but at $150, it's overpriced. It's worth about half that.
I picke dmine up while they were on offer, for about half that. I hear it's good but I agree - at full retail too dear.
