The final video aged so poorly it looks like a modern rough cut. Edit: This isn't meant to bash the modellers or animators who i'm sure worked hard, but rather an observation on how far 3d animation has come.
It might just be because it was a licensed pre-existing song. Most music Spongebob sings or plays is original to the show. It could also be he felt the lyrics or voice just wasn't fit for the character and thought it'd be awkward.
I honestly pity him for that because he forgets that Spongebob and his friends did play of some episodes of some seasons lol. Wonder what happens next? if Hasbro made a Transformers collab with Spongebob's Patty Wagon, are Hillenburg's "loyal" supporters gonna keep saying that "Hillenburg didn't want this" excuse by saying "Hillenburg said that Spongebob's not a Transformer" or what? :/ Ngl, I don't know what's the point of being a Spongebob fan if I can't enjoy anything else from the Spongebob franchise outside from the show itself when Hillenburg's annoying "loyal" supporters around telling me I have no right to do that all the time.
It just feels so weird having to see the raw, original rough cut of the whole "All The Small Things" SpongeBob MV. Some speculated that it was all done via Game-engine, like how most other MVs did (Half-Life 2, and others)...instead it was all done in Maya 6.0 (Autodesk Maya)…who would've think?
Every video that we produced for video mods was made in Maya. All the different game engines and assets were "useless" because they are bespoke to their own pipelines and game console needs. For Sponge bob, we had to rebuild the characters to use them. All the assets didn't have skeletons or rigging. They used "replacement" object by object changing to create animation. So the folder of sponge bob was mostly body parts in many different poses.
Honestly you should probably post the original file somewhere too, just so we have it at it's original quality, or a full screen version of the upscale
Is still cant belive how fast technology moves you guys needed a special high specs computer to do this meanwhile nowdays a 200 bucks laptop from waltmart can do this and more
I doubt that. $200 laptops cant even open Maya or Blender let alone be able to have a decent enough graphic card to do Unreal5. $1000 maybe. but Id rather shop at Microcenter.
@@VideoModsHD In terms of decent mid-range computers that the average consumers can but may be able do it, but back then you'd need top of the line computers to animate and render it
@@LasagaMan Back in tph early 2000's we had to use the University of Buffalo's Super computing Center or CCR. This show was rendered on machines that had over 12,000 render cores, and terrabytes of ram. Its not that it was super hard to do, but we rendered 12 camera angles of each video of the whole song being performed, then the editor would cut from one angle to another like a live action sporting event or concert. For SpongeBob, there were 14 render files, each one for a 3:00 video at 29.978 frames per second. That is 5,396 frames per file for a total of 75,544 frames to be rendered. CCR rendered these frames on their super computers in less than 30 minutes. However it took a full day to copy all that data to a standard USB harddrive (no USB3 in 2004) and bring that drive back to the studio where we could now edit the video. This is how we were able to make the videos so fast. Using just a our 20 render machines we had at the time, would had taken us a full month to render just the parts we needed, plus the video would have been needed to have a locked cut before rendering. This was the way.
I’m pretty sure the point of him not singing here is because SpongeBob sings when he needs to (I read that somewhere in these comments) Although for example: he sang ripped pants to warn people to not be a fool, in band geeks he sang for squidward, and in the movie he sang to save the town. Also whenever he sings he has a different voice so that’s interesting. If I missed any please let me know
they probably didn’t release this version as it shows spongebob and his friends can sing and play instruments, which could spoil the ending of band geeks if this was released beforehand
I have all the respect for Hillenberg and all, but he was completely wrong about this. I thought it would have been something on Nickelodeon's end and some rather idiotic studio notes, but I am disappointed that the creator was behind nerfing this video. Really sucks that it had to be changed to a bunch of charavcters dancing. And they made you remove the anchovy, too. Meep.
To play Devil's advocate, perhaps he didn't see this as in character for SpongeBob, and diluting the image? SpongeBob has sang a few times, but moreso for deliberate reasons/plot devices rather than because it was his character. Sweet Victory and the movie come to mind. This is also a pop song that seems off brand for SpongeBob, especially considering "work sucks, I know," is one of the lyrics. It would be like if there were a video of Tom and Jerry singing "American Idiot." That said, I wouldn't have been so worried about my IP being misrepresented in a short music video that's so obscure it goes missing for almost two decades, but I guess nobody gets to decide but him.
@@bubbythebear6891 At the time of the initial release, SpongeBob, while popular, was nowhere near the Juggernaut that he is now. So it kinda makes sense that Hillenberg would be of the IP given this could have been someone's first impression of Spongebob since it was on MTV, a massive network at the time.
Honestly, you have to put yourself in the creator’s shoes. It’s hard for me to be critical of anyone who puts a stop to things involving their work. That’s theirs. It’s important and they should have complete control over it. While you’re free to have an opinion liking/disliking something, respecting the creator and their choices when it comes to their work is paramount, you absolutely are not entitled to a say whatsoever.
@@Kerunou Honestly, I'm in the camp of the ones that made the video here. They're the ones that put the effort into this thing and then at the last minute had to change their vision for something unfortunately less interesting. I don't see why Spongebob playing guitar is that out of character. And if it was, I don't see why they didn't compromise by having him play a ukulele (like in Ripped Pants) or a mop/broom he played like a guitar (something I also can see him doing). Though I wish they cut to Squidward on the "work sucks" line. THAT would be totally in his character.

Never seen or heard about this before but this was funny, imagine if Tom Kenny actually sang this song too.
I think it looks so much better with them playing the instruments.
The final video aged so poorly it looks like a modern rough cut.
Edit: This isn't meant to bash the modellers or animators who i'm sure worked hard, but rather an observation on how far 3d animation has come.
what the 2000s.
It might just be because it was a licensed pre-existing song. Most music Spongebob sings or plays is original to the show. It could also be he felt the lyrics or voice just wasn't fit for the character and thought it'd be awkward.
Wowzers I didn’t think we’d get to see the pitch version
it's so sad that stephen hillenburg didn't like them playing instruments and spongebob singing, because its really cute
Ngl, I don't know what's the point of being a Spongebob fan if I can't enjoy anything else from the Spongebob franchise outside from the show itself when Hillenburg's annoying "loyal" supporters around telling me I have no right to do that all the time.
This feels like a fever dream.
This is unreal... I love it 💛🧽
My childhood in one video 🥹
Wow, I was curious about how this looked ever since you mentioned it in your original upload, crazy that you actually found it
Honestly you should probably post the original file somewhere too, just so we have it at it's original quality, or a full screen version of the upscale
the crossover I didn''t think I needed
Spongebob and them playing instrumentals are so much better
"Our video was made before he ever sang in one of the movies or on the show." Well... other than the Ripped Pants episode.
SpongeBob imitates EVERYONE’s singing voice!
Ah yes, educational topic
Now this needs to be in the SpongeBob Movie Game 😎
I’m pretty sure the point of him not singing here is because SpongeBob sings when he needs to (I read that somewhere in these comments) Although for example: he sang ripped pants to warn people to not be a fool, in band geeks he sang for squidward, and in the movie he sang to save the town. Also whenever he sings he has a different voice so that’s interesting. If I missed any please let me know
Just to add to the nostalgia:
My right ear feels lonely.
and now the storyboard after super mario party jamboree
they probably didn’t release this version as it shows spongebob and his friends can sing and play instruments, which could spoil the ending of band geeks if this was released beforehand
Dude, the game that this song was from came after Band Geeks, what are you talking about?
But he played guitar in the Camping Episode?
Yes he did. It didn't really make sense.
He was also playing a sand guitar in the ripped pants episode.
@@VideoModsHD ripped pants SpongeBob movie 2004 camping episode no sense at all
He plays ukulele sometimes

How did they reject this though it’s so good
I have all the respect for Hillenberg and all, but he was completely wrong about this.
It would be like if there were a video of Tom and Jerry singing "American Idiot." That said, I wouldn't have been so worried about my IP being misrepresented in a short music video that's so obscure it goes missing for almost two decades, but I guess nobody gets to decide but him.
you can make a video worse, but you cant "nerf" it
@@bubbythebear6891 At the time of the initial release, SpongeBob, while popular, was nowhere near the Juggernaut that he is now.
They should find the rough cut for other Video Mod MVs.
