Great video! Wraithlords are very cool, but i was surprised that you didn’t mention using fate dice on the hit rolls of bright lances; it seems like they are tailor made to make our most powerful weapons connect
I delegate Wraithlords to the thankless but necessary role of Distraction Carnifex whenever I field them. It has always been good at that role, and now that you can just bolt whatever you want on one I tend to give them Bright Lances because despite the coiflip hit chance, two shots with one free reroll from Unparalleled Foresight tends to get something in. I know that mathematically I'd be better off with EMLs but the big scary Lances are largely there for the psychological factor - an aspect often ignored when theorizing because it can't be reliably quantified. And with Wraithknights having received approximately ALL of the nerfs, replacing one with two Wraithlords and whatever you want to grab with the remaining 190 points is a viable alternative. It's a double Lance platform that's hard to remove, especially with Fortune. Running in, shooting at tough targets with Lances and seeing what happens, flamering whatever's in range and getting into melee as fast as possible. I don't expect the Wraithlord to kill anything. It's there solely to be a nuisance. It's not my most dangerous model, but it's one the opponent can't realistically ignore. And every shot fired at it is a shot not fired at my less durable but more important units. That said however, it's a neat little extra if it DOES kill something. All that said, I wouldn't say that the Wraithlord sucks. Quite the contrary, it's even better at being a Distraction Carnifex than it was in previous editions (it out-Carnifexes the Carnifex by a pretty significant margin despite only costing 35 points more per model).
Oh I don’t think they suck at all I’ve just gathered the data from about 10 or so of my games and noticed a significant difference in the amount of Lance damage they were doing compared to things like War walkers over the course of a game. The wraith lord is an absolute beast and can be very effective as a distraction or something that forces your opponent to react. I just think there might be better options than the lances as in a lot of my games my opponents knew how to gimp it’s shooting with smoke or other -1 to hit strats/abilities
I like equipping my Wraithlords with Missile Launchers for that nice versatility. Especially against horde armies the blast profile really helps mitigate the 4+ BS.
Starcannons have always been my fav build throughout the editions, but I am actually thinking about the MLs. It supplements the S10 melee attacks, so you can focus both ranged and melee on the same type of targets.
Yes, I agree so much. Playing with it in combat patrol broke how I viewed it via the convention. Once you don't have fate dice and rerolls. You learn 4+ on one shot is horrible. Missle launchers shrunken cannons!
Quick 500pt game, using the Wraithlord vs SM. Took BL and StarC as mounts. Used the re roll on the BL, when necessary, yet still gave me c1 dead SM per round as well. It was okay, especially when I took out the last member of a unit with it.
The thing that's really holding him back is the missing Invuln save. Similarly tough models for the points get a 4++. Because of that, I kinda agree with you. Brightlances put him in danger of getting shot by something with high AP. Maybe we need to build him to just go after stuff that can't hurt him. On the other hand, I feel like if you go after stuff that can't hurt him... then you don't need more damage against those units. Maybe still better to have the threat of brightlances, so the enemy tanks stay away from him.
I was using two for a while with double Shuriken Cannons and Ghostglaive in reserve. As single models I found opportunities to get behind enemy lines and your opponent HAS to deal with them. I got two in the backline of an orks list after they had Waagh'd up the board and wrecked!
Do they not get to keep the wraithbone fist attacks when they bring the sword. The data sheet doesn’t say anything about the sword replacing the fists, just says “you can equip the sword”.
Yes technically you have both so it rarely comes up because you always want the best but if for whatever reason you didn’t want to kill the last model in the unit completely you could use the fists instead
@@ProxyHammer1 Thanks for the advice and the videos. Won a game tonight vs. Space Marines. Will have to try out Wraithlord in the next one but War walkers with Double BLs were the business this evening.
The main problem with the WLords is how easy they die, I never had a problem with their damage output, since they always die before they get the chance to do anything. They need an invu save, the -1 to damage back or just a points drop.
