I was writing a comment to flip the washer around right as you said “... you can flip the washer around to the other side...” Ha ha that was good. I had been tapping on the solenoid for weeks before it stopped doing “the trick” When I finally had to take the starter apart, I was quite pleasantly surprised to see that washer, knowing what an easy fix it was going to be. I also cleaned up the burnt side with a wire brush and emery cloth so I would have another good side for later. This was on a 1978 Dodge Power Wagon 360 gas engine, so who knows how many starters are out there with this easy fix... Great job, Thanks.
I looked on your past videos and didn't see anything on the tires, I have a m35a2 and want to put bigger tires on it. I noticed that you kept the stock rims but did you keep the same size 9.00x 20. Would hope you make a video on the many options available and why you stayed with stock rims. Thanks, love you videos
My tires are 11.00R20 Goodyear G177 radials. Much better tire and a good bit larger. You can also fit 12.00R20 tires, and 365/85/20 fits well. I suggest staying away from 395s. Lots of people do run them, but they are too much tire for the truck. Very hard on the drivetrain components.
I don't think people understand what goes into making videos, answering questions from youtube and facebook, and all the other stuff Garrett does for absolutely free for the sake of the hobby. I sure wish he had been making videos 8 years ago when I bought my truck, back then you had to spend hours on steelsoldiers and if you ask a question that had already been asked get ready for a bunch of smart a## remarks.
Hi . Mine works perfectly until engine gets warm , when it gets warm it dies without running rough or something . Do you know what could be the reason?
Hi I have a M35A2 the problem I am haveing wen I am driving the speedo Gauge is only going up to, 15-20 mph even wen I am driving at 50 it just stays at that speed I have put the speedo cable on a drill and it's going up on the drill put it back on the Gearbox run the truck and it's running at 15-20 can any give me any advice wot could be doing this pleace
Same thing I told you on Facebook. It's more than likely that the cable liner is worn. You can remove the drive unit and take it apart to inspect it if you want, but they don't fail often. It's usually the cable or the speedometer itself.
I bought a 24 volt delco style gear reduction starter and the bolt holes are 1/2" I have read a post on the steel soldiers forum that the starter studs are 5/8" just wanted to make sure. Thanks
Hey this might sound dumb, I want to get one of these as my first car.... any major engine problems I should be aware of. I'm pretty handy a starter is no big deal to me, but I hear head gaskets blow allot and they have runaway problems?
They're not too bad if you don't abuse them. Re- torque of the head studs helps avoid blowing headgaskets, and they don't run away unless you go into the injection pump and reassemble it improperly, or the turbo fails.
@@tacticalrepair hey, thanks for the reply what's a good rpm to keep them below and as far as top speed any way to regear them. Lots seem to put bigger wheels on but what about diff. Replacements or somthing
Run a taller tire like 11.00R20 or 12.00R20 radials. You can even step into singles like 14.5R20 or 365R20, however I advise against 395s as they damage the trucks. Too big. I also advise against single rear tires in general, but that is a personal choice most people make.

I just put on a new starter om my m35a2 and got 3 starts out of it solenoid seams bad already any ideas ?
Bad cables causing a high amperage draw. High amperage melts contacts. Replace all three of your cables. New hot lead, center link, and ground lead.
@tacticalrepair thank you I will do that could the starter relay be bad as well it clicks ?

Two add to that. I had my starter bolts that hold the motor housing to the bell housing come lose.

2300 rpm for longevity. Ouverson offers a 4.90 gear set, but doing that conversion costs almost $2k per diff.
Better off upgrading the transmission.
