If Atmorans and Giants have a common ancestor, it's interesting that Giants have ears that are pointed much like an elf, while humans have distinctly rounded ears. I wonder what the reasons are for that. Did they simply become pointed over time? Did the original humans also have pointed ears and that changed instead? Curious.
Man and mer share a common ancestor. The difference is due to how they ended up on proto-nirn. The ancestors of mer were able to maintain a stable pocket of society while the anvestors of man were forced to wonder the world. The later found the former and wrre rejectef due to the effects of living in a harsh world that was only semi-stable had begun to alter them. The war that followed destroyed much of the continents and left the man scattered all over the remsining continents while the Mer were mostly confined to the remains of their realm.

I would imagine the ancient Atmoran diet probably being similar to that of traditional Inuit people, where they subsisted mainly on meat and blubber from the animals and fish they caught themselves. Also that their main source of fuel for light and warmth was blubber/oil based
Probably more like the diet of Northern Indo-Europeans, people who lived on now Scandinavia and Iceland, as well as the archipelagoes of Faroe, Shetland and Orkney. Based heavily in fish and meats throughout certain seasons but also allowing for some vegetables in the diet through other season, and of course milk from cows, goats and sheep. Makes more sense that "Nords" are based on the Nordid or Nordic people's than Inuits, yeah?
I kinda figured that their diet was similar to the Yupik Native Americans eating mainly fish and game for the most part and consuming seasonal fruits and other plant matter when available

It is possible that the Throat of the World could have once had some connections to places in Atmora, though the land shattered and split into continents that drifted apart. The eastern part of Skyrim and much of Morrowind is also very volcanic and active, so it seems like there could have been a great split. Also, it seems like a society as sophisticated as what existed in Atmora would appear to have had primitive agriculture, at least until the climate really changed. Such a society was also likely quite competitive, and it would not be surprising that rival clans, factions, and holds would seek to gain favor with such powerful forces like the dragons. There is also a bit of apocryphal information on Atmora, and they were known to have cities, a rather sophisticated culture (based on ruins), and skills with magic. It is also possible they had some primitive forms of writing and Proto-writing, as even the giants use glyphs in their camps. Much info appears to have been lost to time.
It is also plausible that some remnants of Mer and other Ehlnofey remained in Atmora, though they were likely driven into seclusion by Atmoran men and their own desires to live in seclusion. Additionally, it seems quite possible that some of the inhabitants of Atmora lived in mountains, caves, and underground. It is a possibility that Dwemer could have explored the continent as well in their quest for knowledge and power. There are a lot of mysteries to Atmora, and it seems like there could be a lot of power hidden away in the frozen land.
It took me a while to realize that you were saying Shore Shattered the land and not Shore Shatted the land. I thought this was like Malacath all over again.
I'm thinking that the phrase "Atmora frozen in time" may refer to stalhrim. Whitch would mean that somehow stahlrim started to unconrolably grow, possibly due to a magic ritual gone bad or Stahlrim is in fact crystalized time.
Okay, this may be a little long but I wanted to share something I'd been researching regarding the Skyforge that may connect with something Scott shares about the Nords being made at the Throat of the World. According to what we know, the Skyforge is very old, no one knows who made it but some believe it was made by the Aedra themselves and that they may have used it to craft.... stuff, we don't know what. We also know the Snow Elves and Dwemer feared the Skyforge and avoided it, but we don't know why (I have some theories about that but that's too much for here). Standing over the Skyforge is a huge eagle, this is interesting because we also know (according to ZeniMax talking about the ESO) that the Ayleids and Altmer considered the eagle to be a symbol of the Aedra, the divines, the same ones some myths hold may have made the Skyforge. What I *think* is that the Skyforge shouldn't have been located at Whiterun, but actually should have been placed at the Throat of the World. But it wasn't because Bethesda may have decided they wanted to use it for stuff in Whiterun so moved it there. But, if it was originally meant to be at the Throat of the World then the name "Skyforge" makes a LOT more sense and if it was made by the Aedra and used by them to forge stuff... like... Nords. Maybe the Skyforge was used by Kyne to make the Nords.
@@Alizudo Auriel's bow was created by Anui-El along with Auriel's shield as a gift to Auri-El so he could save his army and children, the Aldmer from the Imperials, the army and children of Lorkhan or Shezarr as he is called by the Imperials.
Historical fact: Vikings built settlements on Greenland that at the time had a lot milder climate allowing farming in some areas. Then the climate grew colder and the settlements wained when people left for Europe until the last people left during medieval times. Another fact, the local inuits lived when the Europeans came and they are still there. They do not farm and traditionally they survive without much vegetables in their diet by eating raw meat and fish and thus avoid destroying heat sensitive nutrients. This is why carnivores animals do not need vegetables. It is likely that the needs eat a lot of raw meat and fish just as to our oen real world inuits do. This is why they could survive without farming.
The Elder Scrolls Adventures (like Redguard) need to come back imagine a pre-Night of Tears game with Falmeri protagonist leading upto the Sack and interacting with the pre-tyrannical Dragon Cult Nords and Reachmen (who ESO have revealed predate Atmoran colonization).
The shared ancestry with giants actually makes sense for Nords, because if you look at the general body shape and facial features of a giant in Skyrim, it does have a lot of similarity with a Nord man. It definitely would make more sense to say that these are the same species. Most likely, Atmora had people who were between giant and Nord size, probably a bit taller than Altmer, but very stocky, and over time, various people from this race bred specifc traits, with one group slowly getting larger and less intelligent, and the other slowly looking more and more like current Nords. This would have to mean that Atmora has the skeletons of many generations of people ranging between Skyrim's giants and Nords, if it is the case. as for how Atmoran people have two different origin stories, your explanation seems most likely to me. It could be interesting to have a small game or a DLC with some sort of visit to Atmora to see how things look up there. Archeological digs on Atmora could answer so many questions, even if the whole thing was centered around just looking at the place and digging through ice, it would still probably be good enough I'd buy that.
I think you got Stuhn and Tsun mixed up. When we meet Tsun in sovangarde he’s guarding a whale bone bridge, so it’d make more sense if Tsun is the whale while Stuhn is the bear.
It could also help explain the Skyforge a little, the first nords could have created it before leaving Skyrim, since upon their return much later the Nords and Elves didn't know how the Skyforge got there
Dragour he made a video on it makes more sense for the fight between old el nahfay and the wandering el nahfay to have created the forges of sky and moon
I would love to see a DLC in Atmora in a future Elderscrolls game. Could be a group of Nords who want to see their former home, or perhaps a group of archeologists or sorcerer's who want to study it's history or ancient magics.

Wow, guys! Great video! I really love the whole concept of Atmora and its secrets. And I'd love to see Beyond Skyrim - Atmora mod being released soon. It's just that every single piece of content about it is astonishing!
As far as Alduin/Akatosh/Auriel, I think of them as three parts or "Aspects" of the same deity. Alduin was the first Aspect, which is The End. Alduin persisted and devoured each spirit world until he was stopped by the conception of Akatosh, The Continuity. It was only with the birth of the final Aspect of Akatosh that history could begin, however, that being The Dawn, Auriel, who commands the sun and time rather symbolically. These three are part of an Aedric Triumvirate of sorts, making up the single god by their three parts, that being Akatosh, the God of the End, the Continuity, and the Dawn, and thus Time itself.
The original race, the very first on Nirn were elves. I'd like, in TES6 to get a dlc where we get to go to Atmora. The end of the Atmorian dlc we discover a strange metal plate buried deep in a cavern. The metal seems like it was part of a larger piece. The strange metal plate has letter, the letters read "U.S.S. ATMORA"
The first race on Nirn were the Ehlnofey. Both elves and men are descendants of the Ehlnofey. Elves were the first to inhabit Tamriel, but not Nirn as a whole.
Bro I fucking LOVE!!!!!! you guys. Every time I want some Elder Scrolls lore I come here your videos are outstanding. I can't wait for a video on the Nords and the ancient nordic pantheon. Love you FudgeMuppet love from California
This is how I interpret the myth. The old ehlnofey that eneded up on atmora split into the giants and the humans, these humans were more like nedes then nords. Atmora's climate was like a continental climate with lush forests teeming with game. The humans had a hunter gatherer tribal society. Then the men owerpopulated as they do and the climate started to cool. The first men who left, who would become the nedes, represent the population at the time, they all were 'weak' like that. Those who stayed fought increasingly desperate wars for the dwindling resources, these wars favored the strong for this the populatin gradually became stronger and stronger. By the time of Ysgramor they have reached a state similar to the nords, but the climate kept cooling. Some sources say that atmora was subject of civil war and the first settlers of Saarthal were fleeing the war, this can be iterpreted as unending tribal conflict for the dwindling resources as Atmora's clime is turning into a frozen wasteland. In conclusion the nords are stronger then the nedes because of the centuries of tribal conflict they participated in for the resources of a cooling Atmora.
Humans are descendant from the Wandering Ehlnofey not Old Ehlnofey. Elves are descendant from the Old Ehlnofey. The Imperials were created from Wandering Ehlnofey in Cyrodiil by Lorkhan aka Shezarr as he is called by the Imperials, the Old Ehlnofey made themselves into Aldmer, Auri-El's children then Auri-El and Trinimac with the Aldmer fought gathered at the Adamantine Tower then at Altmora, Auri-El and his army, the Elves fought against Lorkhan aka Shezarr and his army, the Imperials. Kynareth then created the Nords in Skyrim to go and fight alongside their cousins the Imperials, Lorkhan's children and army against the Elves, Auri-El's children and army.
I know about Beyond Skyrim: Atmora, but just imagine a mod where you arrive to atmora due to teleportation spell malfunction. You appear in entirely frozen landscape with no seas - they covered kilometers deep with ice, with eternal blizzard and not a single patch of natural dirt. And you struggle though it, finding spires of buildings, climbing into one and finding out that it's actually a highest tower of a burried ancient atmoran city, burried so deep under eternal snow, that only roof is seen from outside. Here you find remains of their history and only by intervention of random gods you get back to Skyrim. The final words you remember from them was "This place is for no one. Go, as even we don't walk on this barren land."
the way the god destroyed and shatered continents and spawn fresh new man (with different trait )to help existing men against elves sounds a lot like my typical worldbox session lol.
I do like to think that Kyne creating the nords would be her breathing the life on their lungs, like giving them the strength to shout. But the idea of Atmora being shattered across the sea is awesome as well. Oh, and perhaps that time when Orkey stole the nords' years is what made them smaller than the giants. Edit: I really wish to see how the deities fill in each of the other continents, especially Akavir and Atmora.
Worthy of note that depictions of talos and ysgramor in Skyrim aren’t as big as giants or as small as nords. Could just be that statues are big, but I like to think it’s connected
Dibella being associated with the moth seems like an consequential thing until you consider the Cult of the Ancestor Moth. They literally use the love of their ancestors to comprehend the true beauty of the universe In hindsight just makes too much sense. I can't believe how little credit I gave this god.
I think it makes sense that, after the creation of Mundus and the subsequent civil war of the aedra, Mara would switch to Lorkhan's side on principle. The ehlnofey who fought under Auriel were told they were created as a consequence of Lorkhan's deception whereas the ehlnofey under Lorkhan were taught they and the world were created as an act of love and benevolence. Which side's rhetoric would be more appealing to the goddess of family?
And maybe there was a type of magic the elves used that kept atmora habitable and the nords being human, were too dumb to keep it habitable because they lacked the magical ability to do so.
HEY FUDGEMUPPET I just wanted to let you know ive been watching your content for years and I 💘 your work. Its always interestsing to find out more about lore. You should try doing some lore on movies you like. Like Lord of the rings or star wars or whatever you like I would watch it
Random theory that probably makes no sense : Alduin and The Dovakiin are both the will of Akatosh . Alduins job is to destroy the kelpa so time may be a new, but dovakiin stopped him . Like if akatosh himself was having a debate to keep or destroy the world . And if u support the one god theory of this all being a dream I guess the kelpa ending is the god waking up I guess red guards crossed over by making themselves be dreamt of again
Frostbane Wolves, Frostbane Bears, Frost Bane Horses and Frostbane Sabre Cats are an example of what the fauna/wildlife is like in Atmora. That is if you have heard of these creatures.
The way i see it is that the nords became modern Nords after kyne gave them the thu'um. If she did this on the top of the throat of the world, it could be said that this is how they came from atmora, but were still created on the throat of the world by kyne
Like how Lorkhan aka Shezarr created the Imperials out of nothing in Cyrodiil, Shezarr led the Imperials to battle against Auri-El and the Aldmer then Kyne created the Nords to fight alongside their cousins the Imperials against the Elves in Atmora.
Wild theory but. What if what would become the eight divines. Fought on both sides? Maybe they had originally fought with Shor. But would betray him in the end which is why he is caught and his heart ripped out and shot across the world? Like it would explain why men and mer would revere who they do. It's just a difference of time. Or it could be flipped and Auriel lost allies, though that is harder to explain considering that Lorkhan gets his heart shot away.
One thing we have learned from ancient Nirn folklore and writing is that you can NOT trust it. The ancient Nirnians often tended to embellish to make their works more exciting.
I get the feeling when Tiber Septim achieved CHIM to turn the jungles of Cryodiil to rolling hills, he 'overwrites' Atmora to become as frigid as possible to make that a reality.
What if it’s the Nedes who were caught on the Skyrim side of the sundered “Aldmeris” and cutoff from Atmora from the beginning? Idk how valid that is as a possibility.

I wonder if Dragon Breaks can cause retroactive timelines or just timeline changes. Like things that weren't true become true after a Dragon Break. So things that originally didn't happen, did happen, in some history, and it affects the modern time that is undergoing a Dragon Break.
Just hear me out. Put on your tinfoil hats! What if Tamriel *is* both Atmora, Aldmeris, and Akavir? During the second dawn, the first sundering of the continent was reversed and the lands were returned to their original positions. A reverse Pangaea effect. Think about it. Summerset is the fabled Aldmeris, Skyrim is the elder wood of Atmora, Blackmarsh is Akavir. Cyrodiil and Valenwood being one and the same (explaining how Cyrodiil once a jungle). What if the giants are the remnants of ancient Nords before they were remade in the second dawn? The Akavir transmuted into the Argonians, the Dwemer (forsaking religion in favor of their self-made gods) are the Dark elves-a rewritten history of their wars actually being a civil war, perhaps being saved or re-educated by the tribunal with their newfound godhood, a sort of adoptive child situation in which they raised them to believe they were their “parents”. This answers many plot holes in which we have very little to no information on the origins or endings of certain races recorded in Tamrelic history. It also works hand in had with how the towers remake the lands around them to fit the rulers of said land. With over a thousand years to reset the layout of their map, the Aedra and Daedra had ample time to rewrite history to fit their desires. It even helps explain the degeneration of technology, with multiple resets in culture and history supporting the idea of generational mind wipes or resets. I just see so many patterns of elves being predominant and falling to man in one form or another. (And no, I don’t think there is a correlation between apocalypse and the time span of the eras being subsequently shorter, I attribute that to the fact that the elves, who have longer lives, were the major world power for so long, so obviously their dominion lasted far longer than any Neid or Nord). This just makes me think that this is a simple retelling of the same story, with different races being progenitors of the next, thought lost to time but in actuality faced a reset. Not to mention Azura’s hand in all this. She is the prince of Dawn and dusk, beginnings and endings, fate and prophecy! Perhaps her pride is warranted. She may be the one (or one of many princes working together, much like the court of bedlam) that is attempting to recourse or correct or fulfill a prophetic heraldry of a new era, it’s just taking a few tries thanks to the meddling of Aedra and Daedra and, hell, even the Magna-Ge. Perhaps they are working to bring back Lorkhan or reclaim his realm of oblivion that is Nirn itself, if the Mythic Dawn are to be taken seriously. Please feel free to poke holes in my theory, I’m looking forward to any discussion on this at all, bc after watching hours of this channel trying to be immersed in the world before me, I’d like to think I’m on to something here…
I wonder if all of the races actually came from one race, and the shattering of the super continent separated them, allowing them to develop differently. At least for men and mer

Civil War was the reason Ysgramor left and the War was probably fueled by decreased in resources due to increased cold. Must have a lot of frozen dead strong warriors there. Would be terrible if some powerful Necromancer or Daedric took advantage of that. An Undead army invasion would be crazy.
For being the first dude able to write Ysgramor is surprisingly eloquent
Intellect and creativity are separate from literacy, just as anger is separate from shouting, one is just a possible expression of the other. Speech was already firmly rooted into Altmoran society. Also, elves are cringe.
@@jcaldwell543
How are the Elves Cringe? They're not all that bad ya know, and with their magic, society and advancements and such, I mean...
Plus I mean, most all the major civilizations on Tamriel were thanks to them, and humans never would've learned to write or have more sophisticated literature if not for them.
Granted the Beastfolk had their own thing going on, but much of modern science and tech is thanks to the races of Mer. Sure they can be prideful and somewhat arrogant, but it's easy to see why.
@@Kladjos it makes sense as to why they are so big and tall from that protein and calcium.

I heard someone say that Atmora is a land of only space but no time (as it's all frozen) and the old elven land has time, but no space.
This is seriously the best channel related to Elder Scrolls i've come across. Not a single video made by these guys has ever disappointed me and that's not something many youtube channels have managed to achieve in my books. Well done as always.
Something I love about elder scrolls lore is that it shows that even as a writer you don't have to know the truth about a world's origins (or perhaps allow for several truths at once)
God I love this channel, you guys make THE BEST Elder Scrolls videos on youtube, especially your lore videos. We have to come up with a term for “professional Elder Scrolls historians” like... Scrollkeepers or something.
For now though, you’re Fudgemuppets. Keep up the amazing work you guys, us lifelong fans will always be waiting for more brilliant work.
I love playing on Atmora in Elder Kings, restoring the shipyards and reclaiming the continent.
"and he shattered the land into many" pangea confirmed in eso lore
It's generally accepted that Auriel's Bow was probably forged there, and that it contains primordial magic that is too old to be understood.
@@Alizudo Auriel's bow was created by Anui-El along with Auriel's shield as a gift to Auri-El so he could save his army and children, the Aldmer from the Imperials, the army and children of Lorkhan or Shezarr as he is called by the Imperials.

I’d love to see an Elder Scrolls game set in Atmora, to see a land very different from Tamriel would be amazing
I heard "what is the difference between Nords and Mead?"
Me: "Milk Drinkers"
Milk drinker shouldn't hit as hard as an insult as it does
We need a book or comic set in The Merethic Era. It'd be really interesting if done well!

About the giant thing, I think this important to add that Lyris Titanborn of the 5 Companions had a giant for a mother.
The giant blood came from the father’s side, Lyris’ mother died because the baby was too large for a normal Nord to carry.

It would be neat if we got to visit Atmora in a future DLC for wherever the next game is set.
I newly found your channel and you do good work, but i will never get over how you say "fudgemuppet" with a straight face.

It is good to know that the red guards come from YouCooter. Very informative.
I had no business laughing as hard as I did at Mara being called "Shor's sidepiece"
Mara is one of Shor's wives in the Nordic Pantheon.
Man, I love these videos. You guys are incredible!
I like to think intelligent Frost Giants like Kaarstag live in Atmora.
Can’t wait to go to atmora in the Skyrim beyond mod. Even if I don’t have a pc to play it on, I’ll stop at no cost to play it somehow.

Random theory that probably makes no sense :
Alduin and The Dovakiin are both the will of Akatosh .
Alduin and Akatosh are aspects of the Time God Aka.
You guys make me so excited about ES8
Ah I really wish this channel would cover content from d&d a bit
I'd love to see Atmora in it's heyday.
