    Every time I get on my bike I remind myself of physics. Unlike a vehicle where you strap in to a 3-6k lb box that has pop out balloons when it comes in contact with something, on a bike your body continues until something stops it. Be careful out there

    "do you think that planes need to chill out? let me know in the comments"
    funnily enough, the SR71's top speed was limited by heat buildup/tolerance/dissipation, not it's maximum engine output, the thing was designed to cheat physics a bit and use the sonic boom it was making to precompress the air for it's engines, this got so much energy back out of what went into pushing the plane that it needed less power to push up against it's maximum flight speed than it needed to stay in the air at it's _minimum_ flight speed.
    this also meant that both the sr71 and the somewhat faster and much less publicized plane it was based on could exceed their "max" speeds fairly easily, they'd just melt their nosecones if they kept it up for more than a few seconds and proceed to experience a critical structural failure and go from the tipping point of the metal in that spike and leading edge starting to denature to ripping themselves apart on their own shockwave and disintegrating so fast it might as well be an explosion.

    • @Xfacehack
      @Xfacehack 3 роки тому +11

      That's not completely correct, some bikes are restricted to 300kmh what you sometimes see is the rev keep going because speedo wasn't correct. Also sometimes people just removed the limiter. Or the bike didn't come with restricted and ofc only shows 299kmh but it maybe only does 310kmh or so.

    As a German Driver who frequents the Nürburgring (hope to see James and others from Donut come here sometime) here in Germany during "Touristenfahrten" on the Weekends, which is the time anyone can come and race the Track no matter if it's a Vespa, a Lamborghini, a Wiesmann Roadster or a Semi-Truck, i'm always on edge when i see Motorcyclists at specific parts of the Racetrack, so hats off to those keeping their passion alive, even if they get into terrifying situations with Cars.
    Also i gotta say I'm happy i found James and the Donut Team recemtly!
    Love your Up to Speed episodes, especially on German Tuning Companies and Heritage like f.e.: RUF, which btw. is now still a family business and the 20-something Grand-Daughter Ruf is now running things together with her brother. Just figured you might like to know about that, always awesome when the children take over and are just as passionate.
    Hope to see more videos like that, but also from others here in europe that deserve attention so much history and crazy stories to pick from. Would love to send you Guys some Suggestions and Information, Footage you'd probably have a hard time finding a lot of during research if you don't speak german, italian etc.

      That's true, but most people tend to learn more quickly on smaller, cheaper, less powerful bikes because they can focus on all the other aspects of riding and aren't distracted by trying to control the power all the time. Most modern 300-400cc bikes are capable of +/-5 second 0-60 times and are powerful enough to handle passing maneuvers on American highways. I always advise people go start off on something slower; anyone who doesn't and is still alive is simply lucky.

    In the early '90s there was a custom turbo-charged Ninja (ZX-11, I think) named "Mr. Turbo" that could hit well over 200. (220 if memory serves) The magazine article about it fueled my dreams for years and years. Who am I kidding? It still fuels my dreams.

      That article was in Sport Rider magazine, they had a competition for builders (UFO), that zx-11 made 459.8 horsepower at the rear wheel. With that much power, chain torque drove the wheel so hard in to the ground the bike would bunny hop of the line. And yes the top speed was impressive but abbreviated because again the force from the chain was bending the frame and making the bike pull to one side. Terry Kizer a great motorcycle tuner

As a guy who has raced motorcycles for 2 decades, I’m actually very glad that ‘normal’ people haven’t the slightest idea how fast the bikes have gotten over the past decade. Any 2007+ liter bike will bust the 200 mph mark with an ecu flash and descent tune. Some, like the Panigale V4R, the ZX14R, the ‘Busa’, and the H2 will easily hit 220 or more.

      That’s the responsible way to do things, although it makes peoples egos larger because they’ve waited to get a bike for so long, that’s why all the crazy road rage incidents are in Europe. I’m 17 and ride a 600cc super sport almost every day. I’m in high school and hit 155 mph on my way home from school. That being said I feel responsible enough to have that privilege, my friends who are also 17; one has a 500 hp cobra and a 200+ hp Ducati panigale 1199. The other friend has a 2016 yamaha R1s. I crashed a 500cc going 60 mph (100kph) that just taught me not to be stupid on the road. Now I can drag knee on backroads given good circumstances, it’s all about the rider. Ride safe everyone
