I watched all 45 mins of this and ddnt get tired not one bit. Thank you so much brother. I actually feel like I can actually do this job. Considering the mechanics are charging $250 for this job if I just hand in the forks. Thanks for saving me $250 I appreciate you 100%
Thank you for fortifying my courage to change my own fork seals! I think I can I think I can... and with your guidance I'd bet I can! Thanks for the great detailed instruction and also for your photographer for capturing in clear view all the internals and images! Seriously, Thank you!
@@Moonfleet41 Can I ask one puzzling question? I stopped by a well known local suspension shop and asked about them replacing my fork seals and got a negative (no, can do). With explanation that they don't have the right tools for such long forks? WTF? (They are known for race suspension set up) But, just when would the issue of having to re-compress the spring and needing special tools come into play or be a concern? TIA.... Susan

Definately the clearest video on the subject I've ever watched. Really well made and excellent explanation! Well done for getting a 2nd person to do the filming so we can always see what you're doing unlike most!
Hey, I used to ride and always wanted to learn how to do these kinds of things.... you make it look soo simple but, as long as you aren't afraid of it I guess most of mechanical things aren't that hard. What I am saying is that you are an incredible teacher and its natural for you ! You do a great job and I always give a thumbs up ! Keep making the videos !
Thanks Cody, you are very kind... You just need two things to be able to fix almost anything on a bike or car... intimate knowledge of the anatomy of the job...and a competent level of proficiency with the tools.... it aint any harder than that mate.. take care and thanks again.. Del.
With the help of Delboys garage, I just replaced the steering stem cups and bearings, and disassembled the front forks, replaced the seals and re-filled with 10wgt on a 98 900RR. the bearings were shot and each fork only had about 4oz each of milky white watery oil. I also went over the suspension and set everything to the halfway mark. My bike now rides and handles like my 94 900RR did back in the day...which is "Resiliently". Thanks for the vids!
I love your in depth guides, it's very reassuring watching you actually do it all step by step accompanied with your great knowledgeable explanations and tips. Thanks!
Delboy, Man, I like your videos. Right to the point, plenty of information, explanation, and none of the distracting, annoying music, or comedic act. Very useful for the novice mechanic.
Been watching your channel for awhile now and I've saved so much money doing my own maintenance on both my bikes over the years. Keep doing what you're doing, definitely helping us all out thank you!
Got to love youtube ! I search youtube before i start projects. Last i searched how door skins come off . A simple thing i could of ended up snapping tabs if i didnt do a search. No youtube when i grew up. Trials and many errors lol
I probably wouldn’t have attempted this without your video. I’ve done other seals, but forks always scared me for some reason. But this is totally doable, and even the seal driver isn’t that expensive. There are nice aftermarket replacements for the springs, and even to add adjustable dampener on each fork. Amazing. I’m having fun wrenching on my bike.
BRUH!! Thanks you. You and your camera person. Best walkthrough on UA-cam. Great explanation, great vid quality. At first I'm like man, a 45 min. vid!! After watching I see now that it was totally worth it. The vid it's as long as the shop takes to do it. Its because you actually go through every step. Propa! Thanks alot. Subscribed.
+MyLife-MyRules Thanks fellah, there are some quick vids on the Tube, but we've been asked so many times about details we've skipped over, that we pitched this video not for entertainment, but more as a full on tutorial... only those who need to do it themselves will watch every step, if the info. is there, at least people can take it or leave it.... but when it's not there the video is useless as a reference! Glad it helped, thanks for watching, thanks for the sub! All the best, D&P!
Hello from New Zealand. I have found this video very very helpful for my peace of mind although im not a mechanic but spent 5 and a half solid years within the heavy diesel automotive and construction machinery industry providing service and maintenance to my personal transport vehicles are no issue but now that i own a kawasaki meanstreak . . . . motorcycle work is very much new to me and my hat comes off to you for providing a well presented walk through for us newbies to service and maintenance in the two wheels department. This video has given me the confidence to crack on with it by myself as my forks are in the same leaking boat. Thank you very much
I have re-changed oil seals on 3 different sets of usd forks due to a local bike repair shop not using the air gap messurment.. it's all very well adding the correct amount of oil if the internals are bone dry.. the air gap messurment tells you that 1/ the damper is bled and 2/the correct amount of oil has been added. . too much oil will cause exessive pressure and blow past the seals. ..... it seems rare to find mechanics these days that know exactly what they are doing ..... I would be happy to let this guy work on my own bike .
for 46 years i have changed regular fork seals but never up side down ones.. so glad I found your video feeling happy ordered my seal hammer £12 on Ebay same as yours got me seals new clips and oil and ready to do it... thank you
You made replacing fork seals look fun! I can’t wait until mine start leaking. Thank you for taking the time for making such a helpful and straight-forward video.
The clutch side fork seal on my 2019 Versys 650 blew just before the current two week lockdown here in Pune. And I was so @#$%&* fed up. All workshops, whether official or otherwise, are closed with very stiff fines for opening them even for cleaning up. And I was mortally scared to finger the USD fork. Delboy and Mrs Delboy, your absolutely brilliant tutorial was such an incredible relief. You cannot imagine how relaxed I became; to know that I can do this repair in my garage on my own and get the bike up was bliss. The professionally careful and sensitive way that you handled the various parts is a lesson in itself; I showed your video to my electronics engineer son just to teach him this finesse in workmanship. So methodical, systematic, calm and composed. No unnecessary attempts at superfluous humour or off-coloured remarks etc. The exemplar of what a technical video tutorial should be like.(There is another video for exactly the same job and the way the guy there has handled the parts is an insult to the art.) I haven't got the bespoke seal driver so will use some PVC pipe, insulation tape kind of mod. I'll play your video and work on the bike simultaneously so as to not make a single mistake. Thank you ever so much for this terrific video. I have posted it on the Kawasaki Versys group for the benefit of all members there. Namaste.
I would never have thought of attempting my forks until I saw this video, as you said, it is quite simple. Perfectly Detailed Video, thank you so much!
+VlogBiker Thanks buddy, nothing is that hard that you can learn it.. and all you need to do is watch it done.. the rest is common sense aye.. good luck with yours, drop us a line if you get stuck.. Del.
When you rub the 1200 paper for high spots you rubbed up and down was always taught side to side therefore micro grooves dont run up the fork allowing oil to go up the grooves ,that said great to watch really good info.
Man you are my OFFICIAL teacher you are helping me alot as my grandfather said "you pay for what you don't know". Similar to how you explained if you take bike to shop they will charge to do all that I know here $300 and you just showed me it will take 10% of that on my own. Thank you so much
Most welcome Harold, I'm glad the video was able to help you out, and wish you well with your projects, have fun and enjoy the process sir. Thank you for your kind words .
Just picked up a Buell XB12scg that needs the seal replaced. The dealer said$275 usd if I bring in the tubes so after watching your video I bought the seal driver, the special nut holder tool, a front triple stand and a rear super bike stand all for $360 and will just do all the servicing on my bike now. Thanks to enthusiasts like you sharing knowledge and procedures, the option to perform these repairs allows us not to just save money but understand the dynamics of suspension and tuning to make the most out of rides. Thanks bro brah!
Thank you very much fr your kind words of support, I really appreciate it and I'm glad the videos can help you, good luck with your Buell and have fun!
SIR! I'm watching your video from Hungary! And have to tell you, that I'm really thankful for your effort to make this video. On my 1090R one fork is leaking. I'll do whatever I can on my bike, but forks and suspension were out of my understanding. They still are, but after watching this I'll try to do this seal replacement myself. Thanks again, and keep up the great job!
It's much easier to loosen the top cap when it's not clamped by the top yoke so loosen the top yoke and clip-on first, then the top cap, then the lower yoke. Hope this helps someone.
Agree entirely. Especially if the cap is pretty tight, the top clamp seems to compess the leg a (tiny! - everything is flexible..) bit making it even tighter. (as he said: "Actually, that's quite loose that ...")
Thank you so much for this video. Just changed out the USD forks on my lads 125. Exactly the same process. Your video made it very simple yet you are never condescending towards us that don’t know things. Thanks again.
G'day from New Zealand Mate. I'd just like to say thanks. Thanks for the great tutorial video on what you so rightly describe as a job that stikes the fear of the fork seal god into me!! I have just sucssesfully done this very job on my wife's 600 Honda Hornet. We saved a good 400 bucks by tackling this job myself. Thanks again mate. Cheers....Mal
Hi Mal, you're so welcome mate, am really glad it helped you and that is exactly why we took the trouble to make the videos and post them online in the first place... this is the best part of what You Tube is about and it's an honour to help!
Happy to see finally this video from you. especially because it is a usd-fork. Also my words...fork oil has to be changed regularly like engine oil! To be honest, there are some additional points to mension and they are pretty important. When you put apart forks who have the bushings on the innertube you have to heat up the outer tube to reduce the possibility to damage the bushings - eespecially if you are planning to reuse it. Also quiet often the lower bushings are worn out without a damage on the teflon...this could also make the fork leak, cause the innertube can move in the outer and make a gap where the oil can drain out. If you drain the forks you have to get them more time or flush it with a bit of fresh oil, cause all the metall debry sits deep down at the bottom. If you have to polish the innertube, then do this job never in the direction the fork moves...always around and only(!) at chrome tubes...never ever at DLC or TIN coated inner tubes. Be aware of the spacer between the bushing and the seal. the sharp edge must be on the side of the seal - that is incredibly important. About the tools...alot of forks have these spacertubes to push down the springs. This KYB-Fork is a special one without this little tube. And you cant definitely do all bushes with this seal driver. Just as an example: the 05-06 CBR600RR is not possible cause the plastic is too short! If you engage the thread of the cap...turn it counterclockwise till the thread comes free...then turn it in. A damaged thread at this position is a true nightmare! And if you have a fork with mounted bushings in the outer tube, you dont have to use a seal driver at all Hope this helps a bit!
Thank you sir. Just bought a 600rr with a leaking fork. Effin' mess. I'm going to tackle this myself, though I would add that my local cycle shop quoted me $375 (US) if I bring them the forks (my bailout plan) and $625 if I wheel in the bike. You're saving your audience more $$ than you realize.
I am in California and I thank you for the education you have given me. You have made a big difference in my life because I don't have anybody here to teach me. I thank you a true heartfelt thank you full of gratitude. I will be signing up to your Patreon.
Thank you! I'm preparing to replace the seals on my Ducati M900. This video is priceless for someone who prefers to maintain their own bike or simply can't or prefer not to pay $100+/hour for a mechanic.
As always guys your videos are the definitive article, but this one even more so, with loads of hints and tips for a successful result. Very well done.
+David Jebson (thebiglad) Thanks you most kindly David, we love what we do, amnd its getting easier as we get more practice.. take care my frined.. all the best. .D&P.
18 years as an army mechanic and I'm still learning. Another top video. Pay day I must remember to pop a tip in the jar. Cheers for another top video. Helped me out no end with my new Harley Davidson softail.
Hi Ian, thats how i see it, every day is a school day and there is always more to learn aye.. Glad the videos can help you and its an honour to help out a fellow mechanic... ride safe mate, all the best. Del.
Thanks Greg, sorry i dont remember the brand of the drive,r i bought it from Machine Mart about two years ago... im sure they still have them available..!
@@Moonfleet41 it maybe a little late for my reaction, but accelent way of explaining things nice calm and clear, good interaction with the camera, good job there, I really like the little details you show like with the milk bottle to protect the seals. You make me feel like I can tackle every problem and do it my self. Thx
Best tutorial on fork seal replacement I have seen to date on youtube. You cover every step and leave nothing out. You sir are a gentleman and a scholar for sharing your education with us. Thank you so very much. I will be doing this very soon after I get the shop manual for my Bike. Thumbs up, subscribe and fav the video.
Just another thank you! I watched several videos before doing my first fork seal replacement, but THIS is the one I came back to during the process to guide me through the finicky bits.
Great vid. A small caution you may like to add, "wind the damper rod out before reassembly in case the locknut moves". If it screws further down and the damper rod is wound in, when the caps are tightened the damper rod will be damaged.
No because you dont measure to the outer tube.. you measure down to the top of the inner tube.. the tube that contains the oil..!!!! i should have said..!
Not necessarily, Ducati manuals with Showa forks clearly says "slide both the damper and outer tube fully down the inner tube..." oil level needs to be measured from top of the outer tube
Just used this video to give me confidence whilst tackling (first ever) fork seal replacements on a ZXR750L3 and a Ducati 750ss carby while in lockdown. Fantastic. So easy to follow and so clear - you are a star and I find your videos mesmerising...I could spend far too long watching! Must have saved me me nigh on a couple of hundred quid, I am sure. Nice one. 😉
Delboy - you inspired me to have a crack and replace my fork seals and headstock bearing - both were shot. You made the headstock job look a lot easier than it is!! Anyway fork seals: I tried two methods - the condom method and your milk bottle method of sliding on the new seals. I gotta say your milk bottle cone method works way better - the condom method just tears! Also tried the method of wrapping electrical tape to form a seal driver as I was too cheap to buy a driver - works quite well and doesn't bear on the inner seal. Thanks again for the invaluable tips, and keep the vids coming! Cheers, Scotty NZ.
Hi, just wanted to thank you for your upside down forkseal video on youtube!! Absolutely fantastic demo!! clear, consise instructions I really am impressed with your vids. I have already used some of your tips on my bike and they work Just fine. Hope you & penny continue with the vids for many years to come I am sure they really do help novice & professional alike when working on bikes. Also something which I would like to mention & probably goes unnoticed is pennies camera skills which are excellent. Well done to both of you!!
Hello Robin, thank you so much for your veru kind comments, its a pleasure to be able to help and spread a few skill that most people can master... im glad you can use the videos for your bike, always feel free to drop us a line if you get stuck with something.. take care.. Del.
I just wanted to thank you Del. I watch a lot of your videos and tend to search for you if you have a video I need to watch. I am a novice as far as motorcycle maintenance and repair. However I am trying to get some knowledge so I can get a cheap project bike and learn how to do a restoration so to speak. Then hopefully I can service my nsr before getting it M. O. T'd. Anyway thanks again pal and keep the videos coming.
You are very welcome Daniel, im so glad the videos can help you out, and it's great to hear that you're getting involved and making your own way in bike maintenance, it's a wonderful journey and will hugely broaden your pride of ownership and enjoyment in your bike... take care and have fun with it mate.. Stay in touch and let me know how you get on. Del.
+Gearjammer Now that would work, if only they didnt hurt so much when stoved over your head later.....specially if they're still full of oil.. most undesirable..lol
Great info mate. Bugger.. I just did my fork seals following your instructions, everything went fine.... BUT, I found if I didn't fully screw the valves in on the spring preloaders they wouldnt go in the full amount of clicks to set them up..so I took the caps off, screwed the valves in all the way and now it works mint, . Bike handles so much better now, Thank you.🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍/10 🤩
Thanks for that, I done mine yesterday for the first time, I should have watch this first, the first tube took me for ever, the hard part is to put the seal back!! I wish I had that great seal tool, good one ;)
I've done fork seals before, but I was impressed and educated thanks to your time and efforts creating a quality video and giving us reasons why, different grade oils ( I was unaware of), good camera angles, due to the garage I want to suggest obtaining a good "lapel microphone wireless". There were times the sound of the walls was so loud it was difficult to clearly hear you properly. I say this with encouragement. Thanks again for taking the time to produce a worthy video.
Thank you Keith, you are veyr kind.. we have moved on a lot in the last year, our garage looks very different to this.. and we're always upgrading equipment.. take care.. Del.
Hi Del, first of all i wanted to thank you for publishing this - without this video i would have not tried to tackle my forks myself! Just one thing i'd like to tell you - i have 41mm Showa USD forks on my 94 Monster and i also have exaclty the same seal driver and i just could not get my fork seal to go down enough for me to install the snap ring.. so i took the seal out and found out that when i drive the bushing in with the sealdriver and the washer inbetween, the bushing wont go in as far as it has to! So i had to fabricate a aluminium tube which i cut in half to press it down all the way and then successfully drive the seal in. Just mentioning this as you said it would be a universal distance @28:45 Please don't take this as me bitching about this - just wanted to let you know! Greetings from a fan from Germany!
Hi Car, thanks for the insite buddy, its always good to get some tips from any one else how has done the job, I love how you got round it by making a tube for the job... thanks for watching and taking the time to write buddy.. all the best. Del.
Extremely useful video. It gave me the confidence to change the seals on my Ducati for the first time. Sanford, Florida wanted $750 to change the seals, and I had already removed the forks. Wow. Yea, I was also shocked.
Good video on the fork seal replacement , to be honest I’ve never really felt comfortable about tackling any type of forks but with your explanation and excellent knowledge I’ll be right into my forks no problem, the jargon dissipates , cheers mate !
Fork seals replacment is very seldom and I've owned 30 mega motorbikes ! Because of the rare problem of knackered forkseals I've only replaced once on old rd400, BUT USD forks ??? Is another story and my current MV Augusta F4 needs new fork seals! So seeing your top professional video gave me hope for USD forks! ! So absolutely brilliant video and can't thankyou enough! But just one thing ya not mention dude! The absolutely importance of NOT to scratch chrome legg! As I did on my Yamaha RD400 30 years ago! 👊 and thanks again for mega video
That's mate, good luck with your seal change... it's not complex, just take your time and check in the manual for any special tools needed before you get started!
Thank you for the video. I followed the exact steps and managed to change the seals. I don't have any experience so It took me 3 hours to do one side, and 30 minutes to change the seal in the second side. You Sir saved me 100 USD ❤
Thank you guys, soooo much. I just picked up a 2000 RC51 and I've been giving it the once over and replacing all the little parts that get neglected over the years and replacing fork seals seemed like such a major job. Until I saw your video. You made it look simple. Amazing!
Prob the only "How to" Ive watched all the way through...Do everything on my bikes myself but never forks (never had to) but after watching this, Im gunna take mine apart and re anodise the forks tubes. Well put together mate
Fork seals went on my 1200 Bandit. But, I got a TL 1000S front end. I watched your video, my forks where slightly different inside, but pretty much the same. I found your video to be very helpful, and gave me a good few pointers.
Congratulations my friend, welcome to the world of 'fettlers' - there is nothing like fixing it yourself to give you that proper peace of mind - take care, Del
My local shop wanted to charge me $420+tax to do this on my '06 GSXR-1000. This video pissed me off after seeing how easily done this is and how much all my local dealers wanted to charge me for this service. I will be investing in $100 worth of tools to save myself well over $650 (cheapest quote I found for fork seal fix and replacing front tire). Earned a sub! =)
I've been trying to save to get my fork seals on my gsxr replaced, because I've never done it before. After watching this, I'm about to go into my garage and get started on it myself!!! You made it look a lot easier than I thought it was!
Probably the best explained video ever . Your attention to detail is amazing. I realised this morning my XSR seal leaking . After seeing this video I can’t wait for the weekend to change the seals . Thanks mate you are great
what a fantastic video love the tip for the old milk carton for a seal guide .think I will always check out delboy first before I start any job on my bike . thanks been a great help
Thanks so much for this video. It was infinitely helpful in replacing my fork seals on my Africa Twin. I was just going to take them off and top up fluid for a leaky seal. Glad I learned how to do it as both seals were torn and would have continued to leak. The step by step instructions made this a fairly easy job.
Thanks Mike.. im glad the video could help you out, and darn good on you for getting stuck in and doing it yourself.. feels good aye.. take care and have a great weekend... Del.
Great video, just replaced my 2006 Mean Streak seals. I found that the Mean Streak fork is a bit deeper where the bushing goes in and that seal driver you used wasn't deep enough. I bought a Motion Pro "Ringer" driver and it worked great to drive in the bushing, then tapped in the seal with the driver you used.
What a great video, I just wish I had found it before I started my seal change on my 650 08 Versys. I removed the bottom allen bolt holing the damper and spring, and removed it all in one piece, change the seals and then replaced it all back together and top correct amount of oil, I guess thats why both forks do not feel the same. pleased I found this video before I put them back on the bike, by far the best video Ive seen, and in English. Subscibed
Thanks Nobby, you're very kind, im glad the video could help you out.. and thank you for the Sub, its good to have you aboard... ride safe mate,.. Del.
@@Moonfleet41 I`m here again Delboy, need doing again, and my memory isn't as good as it used to be, £72 an hour + VAT I`m not paying that much for the garage so you have saved me again Thanks hope you've been well and still are?
This was a top notch video mate. You included not only all the relevant knowledge needed to accomplish the job to a professional level, but some really useful & innovative tips on how to create your own inexpensive tools to do it. I will definitely be looking at your channel if/when I need more how to tips on fixing my machines. Was able to install new tubes and seals, with the drivers I made, on my 2008 FXDF in a couple hours and the bike is back on the road, front suspension working like new, without a factory service manual or special tools. Keep up the great work. Thanks a million for taking the time to create this video. ~//~
Great video Del. Just a heads up to you other guys out there. I busted up my bushings getting the tubes apart. A buddy told me to heat up the fork seal before separating the fork, he said that it works great at helping the seal come out.
Super video. Here in Canada it's $180 plus parts, tax & shipping to rebuild the forks after they are off the bike. A seal driver will likely pay for itself doing the first set of seals. Your technique with the strip of plastic milk container is a good one. Let me know if you normally go to the TT and if so I'll buy you both a beer ( 2012! ) in St. Johns ( Close to my marshals point at Lambfell. )
Thank you . Have a 98 Fireblade about to go on the operating table for this and now i feel confident with your help.I appreciate mostly how you stay grounded without all the fancy tools for DIY people like me. You gained another subscriber.
Hi Arthur, welcome aboard Sir, thank you for your kind feedback, it's great to know the videos hit the spot ! Have a happy new year and stay in touch, all the best, D&Px
Another great video, thank you. I’d recommend threading wire or fishing line through the little hole at the top of your rule when measuring the air gap..........just in case it slips into the depths of the fork. Makes recovery a easy.
This video may be 7 years old, but my bike is 30 years old! Great video, really helped me and... I successfully replaced the fork seals on my TZR 250 3XV. Del - you legend!
Thank you for making it so I feel I can do this myself. I just have to find a book on all the toques for the different nuts. Local bike shop wants $200 to do this with me removing the forks! I'll give it a go. Thanks again
Seriously, I've watched a couple of your DIY vids over the years & you're killing it! Quality instruction every time..Just thought i'd pass that on.. Triple tree thumbs up!!
Thank you for this video I've just watched atleast six videos on how to change the seals on my upside down forks and all of them confused me your video is simple and easy to understand
Let’s face it’s like watching Blue Peter when they say “I have one already done” (reference to a popular British kids TV show of the 70’s). Clear Concise Beautiful another awesome Delboy’s Garage. I’ve been looking at others attempting to show how too vids and yours is no BS to the point.
Excellent video. Helped me no end in stripping down the forks on my ZZR1400. My local garage were going to charge £100 if I supplied the forks loose. OK, I spent around £90 on tools, seals and oil. But I can change the oil again in 12 months time for FREE. I ordered 2 litres of oil, just in case. Of all the things you can do on a bike. Fork oil probably makes the most difference. Especially if it's 10 years old... Cheers again Del
Just wanted to take a moment and tell you I appreciate you helping with this and have top tier workmanship.
I watched all 45 mins of this and ddnt get tired not one bit. Thank you so much brother. I actually feel like I can actually do this job. Considering the mechanics are charging $250 for this job if I just hand in the forks. Thanks for saving me $250 I appreciate you 100%

With the help of Delboys garage, I just replaced the steering stem cups and bearings, and disassembled the front forks, replaced the seals and re-filled with 10wgt on a 98 900RR. the bearings were shot and each fork only had about 4oz each of milky white watery oil. Been watching your channel for awhile now and I've saved so much money doing my own maintenance on both my bikes over the years. Keep doing what you're doing, definitely helping us all out thank you!
+NINJA NERO Thanks mate... we enjoy it too, so thats win win..
Thank you for your feedback Jason and we're glad the video inspired you... good luck with your projects and happy wrenching!
BRUH!! Subscribed.
Oh, almost forgot, Doing this to my 2007 CBR 1000RR REBUILD. I have a vid of her on my channel.
Thank you very much
Hey Cheyenne, most welcome Sir, great to know the video can help you out! Hope your fork seals replacement goes well, let us know how you get on!
Did usd fork leak easier that just telescopic fork?
I heard its like that ,is it true?
The Correct amount of oil is critical . All fork types
for 46 years i have changed regular fork seals but never up side down ones.. so glad I found your video feeling happy ordered my seal hammer £12 on Ebay same as yours got me seals new clips and oil and ready to do it... thank you
Most welcome Sir, glad the video helped, good luck with the job!
The exemplar of what a technical video tutorial should be like.(There is another video for exactly the same job and the way the guy there has handled the parts is an insult to the art.)
I haven't got the bespoke seal driver so will use some PVC pipe, insulation tape kind of mod.
Del.
Super awesome attitude. Especially this day & age.
When you rub the 1200 paper for high spots you rubbed up and down was always taught side to side therefore micro grooves dont run up the fork allowing oil to go up the grooves ,that said great to watch really good info.
You're like the Gordon Ramsay of motorcycle maintenance! Thanks!
Just wow. I can’t believe I overlooked this video initially. Your channel is incredible, thank you
Just picked up a Buell XB12scg that needs the seal replaced.
Where did you get a front stand for less than $200?
Love the way you approach these tutorials, I really feel like they are manageable. Complicated things made simple.
Genius.
Thanks
Nick
Thanks Nick, that is very kind of you, much appreciate your kind words!
Good luck Natan, I hope the seal change goes well, and it is good to know you are trying this for yourself.. Take care and ride safe;y.. Del.
It's much easier to loosen the top cap when it's not clamped by the top yoke so loosen the top yoke and clip-on first, then the top cap, then the lower yoke. Hope this helps someone.
I greatly appreciate your insights tips and tricks from all of us in Canada thank you very much
Agree entirely.
Most welcome Chris, im glad the video could help you, and thanks for the feedback mate.. All the best. Del.
Bacon roll, coffee and a Delboy video ... quality start to the weekend.
Third that!
+Orenchis Ha ha, awesome.. i LOVE comments like this.. almost wish i could jon you,lol
Uh what exactly is a bacon roll? I've missed something along the way...
Clear and precise as usual !
And if you have a fork with mounted bushings in the outer tube, you dont have to use a seal driver at all
Hope this helps a bit!
This might be the best how to video I've watched. Thank you.
Thank you sir. Just bought a 600rr with a leaking fork. Effin' mess. I'm going to tackle this myself, though I would add that my local cycle shop quoted me $375 (US) if I bring them the forks (my bailout plan) and $625 if I wheel in the bike. You're saving your audience more $$ than you realize.
worth the 45 mins watching! thank you so much!
Thanks mate, glad you liked it - and glad it could help!
I am in California and I thank you for the education you have given me. You have made a big difference in my life because I don't have anybody here to teach me. I thank you a true heartfelt thank you full of gratitude. I will be signing up to your Patreon.
You are so welcome buddy, we're glad to know the videos can help you out, we appreciate your kind support, ride safe there!
It was an excellent and very detailed explanation. A magnificent class of mechanics, mate
Thank you! I'm preparing to replace the seals on my Ducati M900. This video is priceless for someone who prefers to maintain their own bike or simply can't or prefer not to pay $100+/hour for a mechanic.
Most welcome JR, hope it goes well, thanks for watching!
Perfect, mate..!!
"Says well what he knows,
the one who knows well what he says..!!"
Regards from Brazil.
This guy is my favorite!!!!! He is so clear!! And I have learnt a lot from his no nonsense tutorials!!!! Keep up mate!!
Del.
Great way of explaining what to do and when...simple, calm and easy. What brand is the seal driver?
Thanks Greg, sorry i dont remember the brand of the drive,r i bought it from Machine Mart about two years ago... im sure they still have them available..!
@@Moonfleet41 it maybe a little late for my reaction, but accelent way of explaining things nice calm and clear, good interaction with the camera, good job there, I really like the little details you show like with the milk bottle to protect the seals. You make me feel like I can tackle every problem and do it my self. Thx
@@cesarmathies9289 Most welcome Cesar, Just house keeping jobs, nothing too complexed, and glad it can help you out mate...
Thanks mate, much appreciated !
Best fork seal replacement diy video ever!!!
Just another thank you! I watched several videos before doing my first fork seal replacement, but THIS is the one I came back to during the process to guide me through the finicky bits.
Most welcome mate, im glad it worked for you.. !
Amazing tutorial. Subscribed. Ready to change my seals lol
Good luck with it Navi, hope it goes well for you.. drop us a line if you get stuck!
Great vid. A small caution you may like to add, "wind the damper rod out before reassembly in case the locknut moves". If it screws further down and the damper rod is wound in, when the caps are tightened the damper rod will be damaged.
doesn't the scarf wrapped around the bottom, affect the measurement of the oil level?
No because you dont measure to the outer tube.. you measure down to the
top of the inner tube.. the tube that contains the oil..!!!! i should
have said..!
Moonfleet41 Yeah thanks for your response, I have done a USD fork swap and had to change the oil the way to explained was pretty easy
Not necessarily, Ducati manuals with Showa forks clearly says "slide both the damper and outer tube fully down the inner tube..." oil level needs to be measured from top of the outer tube
Wrong, the tube has to be all the way down on the stanchion, like he has it
Just used this video to give me confidence whilst tackling (first ever) fork seal replacements on a ZXR750L3 and a Ducati 750ss carby while in lockdown. Fantastic. So easy to follow and so clear - you are a star and I find your videos mesmerising...I could spend far too long watching! Must have saved me me nigh on a couple of hundred quid, I am sure. Nice one. 😉
Great to hear mate, thanks for your kind support, enjoy the videos!
Thanks very much, great tutorial. Made me purchase a seal driver. It will pay for itself with these 2 sets of fireblade forks I have to re-seal.
Cheers,
Scotty NZ.
This guy is the Ramsay of motorcycles. Well done, thank you. 😊
Hi, just wanted to thank you for your upside down forkseal video on youtube!! Absolutely fantastic demo!! clear, consise instructions I really am impressed with your vids. I have already used some of your tips on my bike and they work
Just fine. Hope you & penny continue with the vids for many years to come I am sure they really do help novice & professional alike when working on bikes. Also something which I would like to mention & probably goes unnoticed is pennies camera skills which are excellent. Well done to both of you!!
Hello Robin, thank you so much for your veru kind comments, its a pleasure to be able to help and spread a few skill that most people can master... im glad you can use the videos for your bike, always feel free to drop us a line if you get stuck with something.. take care.. Del.
Thank you sir excellent video!
Great work! Your instructions are on point. It feels like I've done 100 of these and can do them in my sleep after watching your video! Thanks much!!!
You're welcome, and good luck with it, have fun!
You seem to have a nack for describing things in detail, great video mate! Curious as to the brand of combination spanners being used on the bench?
+The Savage Garage Hang on - didn't I just see you in the comments of Retrorestore's latest vid?! Small world ;-) Two great channels!

+christhesnaildriver you sure did! Lol I only just found retro restores channel but he's great! Been watching del for ages too!
Del.
Cat litter tray! Real men live for danger and use their wives roasting dish.
+Gearjammer Now that would work, if only they didnt hurt so much when stoved over your head later.....specially if they're still full of oil.. most undesirable..lol
Gives the beef that little something extra.
Bike handles so much better now, Thank you.🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍/10 🤩
Thank you, much appreciated!
Thank you Keith, you are veyr kind.. we have moved on a lot in the last year, our garage looks very different to this.. and we're always upgrading equipment.. take care.. Del.
That was the best detailed job of fork seal replacement I ever seen, hands down. Great job to the camera person too!
Thank you so much for your kind words of support.
Congratulations Sir, I bet it feels good to have saved the money and the pride in doing it yourself!
Good video on the fork seal replacement , to be honest I’ve never really felt comfortable about tackling any type of forks but with your explanation and excellent knowledge I’ll be right into my forks no problem, the jargon dissipates , cheers mate !
If you ever tire of being a mechanic you could start teaching. What a wonderful job walking us thru this! Amazing video as usual, thanks very much!
Thank you kindly Sir 👍, am glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent 'How To' Delboy! Thanks also for the Universal Fork Seal Driver Tool recommendation which I've just ordered from overseas!!
Thank you for the video. I followed the exact steps and managed to change the seals. I don't have any experience so It took me 3 hours to do one side, and 30 minutes to change the seal in the second side. You Sir saved me 100 USD ❤
Most welcome Sir. Glad it helped
7 years ago? And still someone who appreciate you help. Great video man. Will change mine next weekend. Thank you for that.
Most welcome mate..Glad It could help!
Thank you guys, soooo much. I just picked up a 2000 RC51 and I've been giving it the once over and replacing all the little parts that get neglected over the years and replacing fork seals seemed like such a major job. Until I saw your video. You made it look simple. Amazing!
Our pleasure Rich, glad the video helped you out mate.
Nice to see someone that knows what he talking about and knows what he's doing top bloke
Glad it helped and good luck with the upgrade, it's a great solution to the Bandit forks!
Excellent instruction. I'm ready to tackle my Busa now. Thanks for all your great videos. My complements to the camera woman. Excellent camera work.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you sir!! Thanks to you I bought tools and work on my own bike... You gave me confidence to work on my bike.. Keep it up!!!
Congratulations my friend, welcome to the world of 'fettlers' - there is
nothing like fixing it yourself to give you that proper peace of mind -
take care, Del
Yes... and the best choice in music for this work lol. Thank you sir! Keep it up.
So the seal driver tool is essential mate? where do you get one of those
Any good tool store will sell you a seal driver, or maybe even eBay, just get the one that your fork diameter falls inside..!
Hi Adeum, im glad the video could help.. good luck with your seal change.. !
Ive replaced the fork seal on my s1000xr, thanks for your help, I couldn’t have done it without your video.
Glad it helped you mate, thanks for the kind feedback!
Thanks mate you are great
Most welcome mate, Glad it helped, good luck with the job.
what a fantastic video love the tip for the old milk carton for a seal guide .think I will always check out delboy first before I start any job on my bike . thanks been a great help

Great video Del. Just a heads up to you other guys out there. I busted up my bushings getting the tubes apart. A buddy told me to heat up the fork seal before separating the fork, he said that it works great at helping the seal come out.
Never heard that before buddy.. they always just pop out with the "slide hammer action"...!!!
Hey buddy... thanks for subscribing, good luck with your forks, and remember to enjoy it.. Cheers, Del.
A great way to spend the evening watching a Delboy video. Sir, from America, I salute you! You've got a big fan here!
Hi Arthur, welcome aboard Sir, thank you for your kind feedback, it's great to know the videos hit the spot ! Have a happy new year and stay in touch, all the best, D&Px
Really superb video thanks for uploading next time I'll change my oil seals without paying for too much labour cost in service center
Finally replaced oil and seals after 5 years thanks to this video. Pain in the ass to keep the damper rod up!
Another great video, thank you.
I’d recommend threading wire or fishing line through the little hole at the top of your rule when measuring the air gap..........just in case it slips into the depths of the fork. Makes recovery a easy.
Great tip, thanks Keith !
This video may be 7 years old, but my bike is 30 years old! Great video, really helped me and... I successfully replaced the fork seals on my TZR 250 3XV. Del - you legend!
Most welcome mate, Glad it helped!
Thank you for making it so I feel I can do this myself. I just have to find a book on all the toques for the different nuts. Local bike shop wants $200 to do this with me removing the forks! I'll give it a go. Thanks again
Did the job myself and it wasn't that hard at all! Saved me $200! Thanks again.
Thank you for that video you have saved me a lot of money as I love doing so many wheelies and every fork seal replacement is 250$ here in Australia
Seriously, I've watched a couple of your DIY vids over the years & you're killing it! Quality instruction every time..Just thought i'd pass that on.. Triple tree thumbs up!!
Thanks so much CB, thats very kind of you, it gets a bit easier with practice i guess..!
Thank you for this video I've just watched atleast six videos on how to change the seals on my upside down forks and all of them confused me your video is simple and easy to understand
Thank you so much for your kind endorsement, and am glad the video helped you!
Thank you for a GREAT video tutorial on this procedure.
The camera work and your instructions and tips helped me repair my bike .
Thank you !!!!!
You're very welcome Tyler, Glad to have helped!
Thank you for your kind words of support, we're glad you're enjoying the content! And yes, we remember Blue Peter... never got a badge though lol
You made it look so easy explained it so good just ordered a seal driver and having a go cheers mate love your work
Glad it helped Chris, good luck mate.
True words indeed mate, forks make such a lot of difference to a good handling machine..
