just one word... amazing
Really easy to follow what you are doing. Love that you explain why you use the paints where you do
🤣 That opener of dropping the door in the paint had me laugh out loud, great vid, I'll be watching this whole series multiple times as recently picked up Hero Quest and all the available expansions and am planning on painting the lot
Haha thanks! We gotta learn from those mistakes :p Happy to help you through!!
Great vid. I think it's really picking up. Can't wait to see more vids.
Legit loving your style and humor coming thru here. I laughed at the mistake and felt that pain. Great stuff!
We all make mistakes haha I think it's good to show that. Especially with so many talented people doing miniature painting on YT, it's a good message ;p
Big Bob Ross' vibes when explaining how you process things, real great stuff to follow and/or to watch while painting. Thanks for it !
Thank you so much for these videos. I've never been much of a painter, but watching these has encouraged me to give it a go with my HeroQuest pieces. And thanks for keeping in that little mishap too. Kind of eases the fear of messing up when you see it can happen to more experienced painters.
That was exactly the point haha, I'm so glad to hear that it worked/was useful! Mistakes happen all the time :) we can just clean it up and try again.
these are AWESOME!!!😍😍😍
😈😈😈
Just picked up the game so these videos are gonna be great. I think I'll make a small change though... I'll be painting my wooden door furniture as wrought iron so i'll be basing in gunmetal then covering with Black Templar contrast, it gives a great black metal look.
That sounds rad! Would love to see the finished product haha.
Loving the videos. I'm shopping around for inspiration before I take on these miniatures as my first ever painting project, and yours have given plenty of thoughts.
One very minor criticism about the video itself though: the track you're using with that stylophone 'beep' I found extremely grating and I had to click through the video to get the gist of the process rather than just enjoy the whole thing as I normally do.
Otherwise as great as the rest. Thanks for uploading.
No problem. I've adjusted the track selection as I went forward, as well as the mix. Sorry about that in these earlier videos.
This is great. This is teaching me to mainly buy speed paints and a few things to go on top to bring things out rather than get a full proper paint set. One thing personally I'd do is some kind of darkening wash on the stone to bring it all down a bit, but that's just personal preference.
It's definitely cheaper. Speed/Contrast will be a higher difficulty curve in terms of control, but once you get that it'll be a big tool in your belt. A full range on the other hand would definitely better teach you fundamentals of painting (layering/shading/etc) so don't discount them for the future if you have a chance :)
@@notyourmothershobbies lol just worrying about the game for now. So basically a primer, the flat white paint, a good range of contrast paints, and some metallics. Any other paints I should pick up as must-haves?
@@darthkek1953 A cheapo white paint and a really good black paint. (Or a really good of both haha) Otherwise, I think you're set ;p
@@notyourmothershobbies magic, thanks
Did you wash your HeroQuest minis before painting them? I usually wash boardgame minis to remove mould-release agents but there’s so many here it would save time if I don’t have to bother!
For the terrain I did not, as I rattle can primed those and I find a spray covers well 99% of the time. For the figures I did, as I used an airbrush to prime and I've had spotty luck the coat sticking and not rubbing off. I seem to have best results when I give a quick rub-a-dub in alcohol.
I hear ya though, with this many minis...it's a pain in the ass, but with alcohol rather than soap and water the dry time is at least a little quicker.
Would you advise using a varnish to protect the paint when playing?
Absolutely! I use whatever I have on hand haha. GW Militarum Varnish, Rustoleum matte clear coat, Rustoleum "Chalk" line matte clear, etc etc etc. Varnish that puppy!
@@notyourmothershobbies thanks! I’ve only been able to find TAP’s anti shine matt varnish, i’ll use that and then apply ‘ardcoat on top of whatever i want to have a shine!
Do you only prime with spray, or is there times where you do it with a brush?
The doors looks so awsome, and much better the the first one i was working on. I will try this way, on the others.
I never prime with a brush on primer though there's nothing wrong with that. I always use either a spray can or my airbrush. If you're gonna do a rapid and rough drybrush overtop of something I'd recommend a spray can undercoat though, for toughness of the paint.
This might be a stupid question but is it gunmetal or gunmetal grey? I see some have metallic in them too
Not a dumb question at all. Vallejo gunmetal is what I'm using, it's a metallic.
@@notyourmothershobbies thank you, I really like your painting and colour choices. I have ordered pretty much the same colours and will be painting mine this Christmas thanks to santa(wife)
Sorry. Can't stand this music. Great info, just obnoxious loop
No worries. I change how I do the music a couple videos in for that exact reason.
Your video is amazing! Realy easy to follow your painting steps... but again bad music choice. Its too loud and boring... sorry.
This is a common complaint that is addressed later haha sorry. I hope this doesn't deter you from checking out some of my other videos.
