That all depends on when you bought your copy of the game. Some of the furnishings used to be folded cardboard stuffed into plastic end pieces. Of course, saying that it meant they were already detailed with printed artwork and not needing paint.
I do not own Hero Quest, I do not own any Games Workshop products, I have never played a tabletop war game. I have no intention of doing any of these things. But I absolutely adore the soothing and friendly nature of these videos and am lapping up this series. Something about the progression, soft voice, and enthusiasm is spellbinding.
Well done. I will now likely have to snag an original box for myself and a rerelease box for my niece and nephew. “A picture of Nessa” melted my heart, thanks Guy.
When I painted my set I did all the doors first, I knew if I painted the more interesting stuff first I knew I would never go back and do them all. I managed to get them all done over two weekends.
Very nice. I couldn't resist mixing a bit of the off white and yellow and lightly tickle the areas around the fire place to give the appearance of theligh from the fire reflecting off the bricks. Otherwise, great job. You've inspired me.
Thank you for inspiring me and getting me started in my painting furniture quest. Hope it's ok I mentioned you in my - very very beginner - painting video.
Many many thanks!!! Had a first try as a teenager on vintage Hero Quest miniatures, and wanted to try again & improve on the 2021 edition for my son. Followed your advices, step-by-step, used the precise paints you suggested, took my time, and... WOW !!!! Totally amazed by the results I got on the furnitures!!!! Your tutorials are extremely well-done, waiting impatiently for the rest of the miniatures!!! THANK YOU!!!
I received the original for Christmas when I was about 8yrs old and unfortunately none of my friends at the time or my sisters were really into that sort of thing. I played with the miniatures like most 8yr olds would, inventing my own games. Now I’m 41 and although I never got to actully experience Hero Quest as it was intended, it has always held a place in my heart. I really enjoyed watching you painting these miniatures, hopefully once my son is a little older (5yrs old right now) I can buy it again and introduce him to it.
I'm going to paint the minis soon, although I'm dreading the furniture! Will definitely incorporate some of these techniques when I garner the enthusiasm!
This is the first time ive painted and so impressed with the results! Just finished the black wash. Thanks for the videos. Touch ups thrn onto the skellies!
Hello! Just wanted to pop in and say I'm a new player of Heroquest, (now addicted) love it btw!!!, and I've never painted a mini in my life. But your tutorial vids made me believe!!! and i followed your instructions step by step and they turned out great!!! You were right, I CAN DO THIS!!!! Thank you!!!!
Hi Guy, I love this series and this episode. Thanks for doing it! I discovered HeroQuest in primary school playing it with my best mate back then in France and still remember it to this day. I was amazed by the minis that his dad painted for him, they looked amazing and this was so much fun to play. Now Down Under, on my 40th birthday I pre-ordered the new Heroquest box (I missed out on the Kickstarter sadly) wanting to paint the minis with my son and play games with him. My 8 yr old son loved to take the pieces out of the box and place them randomly on the board, pretending to be a game master and us rolling dices for fun. We initially painted the few dread warriors together. But then, I did not manage to paint much more in the past year sadly. This video has made me realise how I overcomplicated painting the minis for myself and my son. I'm now excited to paint all of the minis with my 8yr old son and my 4yr old daughter in short and fun sessions in the upcoming weekends. Your techniques will be perfect, especially like mixing the colours and then spreading randomly green on the primed minis will be fun for the kids! And yes, super cute and awesome to see little hands at the end, 100% sounds like what my daughter will do :D. Thank you! Can't wait for the next videos (eg monsters, heroes and storage!). Thanks
Still have my original hero Quest from back in the day, all painted but some of the furniture bits were pre-printed card board. I have introduced my young son to it recently and it's as much fun now as it was for me back then......My son has 3D printed me some new doors so i'm gonna get my painting head on.......Thank's for uploading
This came just in time when I had gotten my box of heroquest, along with one of the expansions. I normally don't get overwhelmed with painting but gods the amount in the main box set alome. Thanks for showing a quick way to do it.
I always study your face so much when you are on screen, searching for signs of aging and make-up now😂. It was that damn video you made of looking good in public, it was etched into my codex. 😅 Those book cases are amazing. I was looking at some old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles accessories in a big bundle on marketplace. I think it would be fun to paint them all now.
Great video Guy. And those of us who have been following you since the start remember the promise you also made about not buying more stuff before *everything* in your pile of shame was done. ;)
Thanks for this! I have just acquired Heroquest for some retro board gaming with my Daughter. My Dad painted our original set when we were kids and I am intending to do the same to this new version over the next year and your guide is a fantastic start for me. Many thanks and new subscriber here 🙌🏻
I have a zip lock bag full of different fireplace pictures which I swap between quests. Anything from the bard. To the original fireplace painting to Freddy Mercury.
Love this series so far, you're a great teacher! Going to see if I can get a Black Friday/CyberMonday deal on HeroQuest. Looking forward to breaking out my paint kit that last saw major action years ago with my Epic 40K armies...Those tiny Land Raiders and Stompas are so cute! lol! Can't wait to see how you paint the figures! Subscribed!
There are a number of quests where stone statues are called for. I’ve just used some retro Heroquest minis painted in a grey stone look to add some variety to the look of the game.
I need to do this for AltarQuest, functionally the spiritual successor of HeroQuest (including many nearly identical furniture) but with added KS bloat! Probably the kind of thing where everything but the heroes and bosses I should probably just keep it simple with a base/wash/drybush and pick out just a couple things and fight the urge to go serious mode.
Heroquest was my introduction to fantasy tabletop gaming. I ended up buying two copies as my first one was broken by my brother. The second time I purchased all of the expansions as well. It cost me $140 Australian all up. Unfortunately, my friends brother broke the pieces in my second one because he would sneakily drag it out of my room when I wasn’t there. At that point I had enough and just gave him the rest of it. I really regret that though as today it would fetch a pretty dollar. I think I may have to start collecting it again as they have made even more expansions now. But that will have to wait until I’ve painted my Bardsung, Cursed City, Silver Tower and Blackstone Fortress models. My pile of shame never ends.
8:08 - You can totally do a dry brush over metallics, especially on beaten up old furniture. It'll add scratches and scuffed look to the metals. I normally do a very light dry brush after a wash. I mean a VERY LIGHT, barely anything on your brush, dry brush. You can barely see it if you do it right. Like, clean off your brush and keep cleaning it off until it's just adding a tiny bit of colour. Especially good to do this over blacks with a dark grey-tan. It'll just add an almost invisible highlight without ruining the black.
I have the original version with the half card/ half plastic furniture but these painting tips will work great with the Mantic Dungeon Terrain crates I've picked up for my D&D games - Thanks Guy.
*_I'm sure that as you were about to press "Upload", you asked yourself..."why didn't I just use a brown primer...that would have saved even more time"._* *_You do realize that when you have painted all the minis, you'll need to bling up the board pieces; by making your own._*
Really glad to see this second episode! Will get going with my terrain in the next couple of days 💪 thank you! :D Just gotta find a way to store it all after it’s been painted… 😅
I just painted all my furniture models and they look awesome!! Thanks for your video! It made it a lot easier to understand how to paint. Especially for a noobie like me. Any idea when you are planning to release the video for the painting of the heros and monsters? :)
That palete is slowly becoming flatter and flatter. It would be interresting to saw in in half and see the sedimentary layers of paint and primer. Like a hobby geologist.
The best thing about Hero Quest is the tiny furniture. it is unequaled in all the realms!
Oh no! MORMONS!
The best thing about Hero Quest is scrolling down to see how far I have to go before I find a Bard reference, glad so see it's No.2
That all depends on when you bought your copy of the game. Some of the furnishings used to be folded cardboard stuffed into plastic end pieces. Of course, saying that it meant they were already detailed with printed artwork and not needing paint.
The best thing about hero quest is the broaaad sawwwd
What is this, a torture rack for ANTS?!
my adult equivalent of saturday morning cartoons
Agreed 🎉

I love how that pallett slowly becomes a disc of paint 😂
BECOME ONE WITH THE PAINT DISC 😅
love the beginner friendly and motivational supportive style
Glad you enjoy it!
Had an absolute horrible final day at work and this video brought my spirits right back up.

@@jeffholt9437 oh bravo Sir!
Your style of teaching to beginners is brilliant Guy, loving this Heroquest series!
‘Breath. Enjoy yourself. This is a hobby after all’ he says as the most tense music in the world plays ominously in the background 😂
That's my style, haha
Well done. I will now likely have to snag an original box for myself and a rerelease box for my niece and nephew.
“A picture of Nessa” melted my heart, thanks Guy.
Guy, this video legitimately stopped my 1 year old crying, and now he's snuggled up and calm so thank you!
Also now I really want Heroquest.
Maybe I should just pretend to narrate painting videos instead of reading my kids to sleep? Haha
new podcast idea

Guys background music never ceases to put a smile on my face
Cheers bud! That means a lot
Priming your pallet is genius. Amazing idea. It makes so much sense.
When I painted my set I did all the doors first, I knew if I painted the more interesting stuff first I knew I would never go back and do them all. I managed to get them all done over two weekends.
Yeah, they're a bit of a chore, but hopefully pretty easy to blast through using this guide
I painted the doors first too! They would be a lot easier to paint without the bloody vines, hehe.
What a lovely start to the weekend ❤
This is exactly what I needed right now after such a long hard day, thank you guy :)
Time to chill!
Instructions unclear.
Accidentally edge highlighted my IKEA bed frame
The best thing about HeroQuest is the board! Look at its beautiful, vibrant colours, and its perfect square-ish shape!
If guy did a podcast id listen to it everyday non stop
Can’t wait to see the original models painted up too. Awesome work Guy and crew
I remember when that old paint pallet had discernible paint-wells!
A sign of a long time viewer, haha
Same.
Been painting minis for about 20 years. Still watched all the way through and found this super enjoyable. Great tutorial for beginners!

How thoroughly wholesome. Loved it.

After watching for years you can see the life of the palette 😂
It's almost a plate now it's had so many layers lol!

Perfect techniques for all my other unpainted terrain pieces. Can't wait to see the character piece tutorials.
Something to watch on a sat nite. Noice!
I humbly request more toddler commentary at the end of videos, please and thank you. 😂❤
This looks so cool i love fantasy tabletop gaming
Great idea to moisten the brush before picking up the paint. It really does help tone down the powdery effect of drybrushing.
Nessa is a queen, the twins are talking... how time flies! :D
Stellar, loving this series. Would love a follow up for Altar Quest board game
GORK AND MORK CAN SPEAK ALREADY??!! wow time really flies :O
I sure wish I had found this video before I started our set :)

Oh man, I'm so glad I watched this! I was trying to figure out a way to wet my dry brushes just a few days ago without getting them super damp.
Oh, I like the old bunny dice logo on the weapon's rack shield, I never noticed that

This was the series that got me to paint DnD beyond. If you already own it, its free minis to practice on!
The scale and home printing is an awesome idea!! I’ve done that for maps and imperial guard propaganda posters
