This is exactly the problem I am having. License plate lights and the trunk release. Thank you so much for this video. I do not solder so I will have to splice the wires and connect them some other robust way.

Thank you. Got the identical issue on my e60. Gonna have to do this when the weather improves. Disconnecting the battery: is it the negative only that you disconnected?
Just fixed this issue in my E60. Also that trunk spring needs to be replaced so you won’t have that problem. It’s on the same side as the wiring you just repaired.
