You sir are a genius! Just did mine and worked like a charm. I run a body shop, and even the parts at cost are not cheap. Not to mention if the original failed, then how long does the replacement last. Glad to have the red light off the dash, and no more warning messages!!! Anyone in question of longevity, I am writing this 20 minutes after completing the job. 2 ohm / 2 watt resistor should last for years if not decades. If it fails again, check your wiring.
Can confirm this ALSO works on 2003-2005 Range Rover L322 (BMW era). I reset my code with the Gap IID tool. Thank you for a well produced video! The only thing I did slightly different was to cut the wire leads unequally and soldered the resistor parallel to the wires, not perpendicular like you have done. That allowed me to use a smaller piece of heat shrink and makes it more compact and easier to tuck away.
Thank you so much!!! I'm selling my 530i and I've been living with the Passenger Restraint warning for a year now, thinking I need a new occupancy sensor pad. I tried this and it worked!!
I tried this today for the first time and it worked. My solder kit was junk. Going to buy a better gun. Basically, I did this without soldering. I just wrapped the bare wires around the ends of the resisters and used electrical tape to secure the connection but I will invest in better solder and heat shrink wraps. Thanks for the great video
Just implemented this resistor change and it worked on my 2004 545i. I had the passenger restraint error message for a while, and during service at dealer for a 4-wheel alignment, I had them check root cause of error message, which turned out to be BST cable, quoted for $600 cable plus labor. So a pack of (5) 2.2 Ohm, 1/4watt resistors at radio shack costed $1.50 (I think), plus Carly Pro App ($40) for BMW with wireless ODB2 adapter (~$65) fixed it. It's been 3 weeks and so far so good, most importantly received state vehicle inspection sticker 2 weeks after clearing error.
What's the link to app for error override. I've seen the Bluetooth obdII part on Amazon but just want to confirm the app compatible for BMW. Thanks for any help.
problem is this introduces new error codes. the process needs lots of improvement too. there is actually no need to cut the factory wiring...ideally a plug end is needed as otherwise you ruin the wiring loom in cases this does not ressolve error (expensive mistake). its also a silly fix if you dont stipulate the repercussions, ie subsequent errors this causes and implications of them. be warned folks
I agree in that I'd rather have the connector and wire it up than cut and splice. Then can easily revert back if there's an issue. I've tried finding that connector to no avail. 02 525i
Dennis Busch could you not just remove the resistor and solder the wire back together to the original BST cable if you had to revert to the original cable?
2005 530i Got it from your site. Worked great. I had my mechanic clear the error code. He was very interested in what I did. I'm sending him this video and your site info. Thanks.
Thank you sir! I own a 2006 BMW 330i e90, this same error appeared shortly after I installed a new starter, maybe the cause...maybe not, anyways - Used a 2.2ohm resistor, got it off Amazon. Used the myCarly app and plugin for diagnosing and clearing codes. The wire to cut on my model also has a black outer jacket and the inside wires are two twisted black wires; it also has the same yellow stripe on the connector as in this video. My (e90) wire bundle comes from the right side of the battery housing instead of the left side as in this video (e60) so be careful of which side of the wire you cut. Thanks again... saved me a lot of money.
You're the best! Hella e60's have this problem. I brought my car into the dealer to have the seat mat fixed and they told me after the repair that it was the bst cable that needed to be replaced.
I've heard one too many times dealers charging for mat replacement only to still have the error. Also when e60 go in for the battery cable recall they end up having the error when the dealer move the bst cable around aggressively. Thought I'd help people fix this issue cheap.
Hello, I have really struggled to find a solution for 6 months on the net, and even on youtub, but you did it and not easy to find !! big thank you to you for the solution, THANK YOU THANK YOU bmw E61 2004
Thx dude, I'll be trying this over the weekend. I had pretty much given up on this error code. Its annoying and had even thought about removing the light bulb in the cluster... Ghetto I know. Keep up the good work.
Nice video and all. But how do you diagnose that this cable is faulty indeed? Also this cable is there for a reason so what's the worst case scenario in case of an accident with this bypass. Cable won't explode and won't cut the power from the battery but what can this cause in the event of crash? Will it catch fire or something ?
finally a solution. this and many other issues with my 550 have been annoying me. i appreciate these videos they're immensly helpful but the e60 is a piece of garbage, i'm even sick of their styling at this point both exterior and interior.
This is now happening on my 2008 535i BMW, really annoying and I'm glad you have video. I have a question, you said the resistor part 👌🏾, but do you have a video tutorial on how to use the laptop to override your error. I'd like to learn that so I can use also after buying resistor
The rest is the SRS system will be UNAFFECTED with this bypass. All airbags and seatbelt pretensioners will still be functional and active. 2.2 ohm 1 watt resistor (red-red-gold-gold) is what I used.

Thank you for all your help, I have one question... I have the Airbag and the seatbelt warning light on, I scan it and It show me the code 93ae - (rear airbag driver side).my car it is BMW e92 - 2009. This light turned on after a rear end hit me, but the thing it is, that it was a really soft hit imagine that I do not have any damage on my rear bumper so I don't understand why the light turned on??I try to reset it but it tell me that it is permanent.

And don't need the c110 scanner.?that light on my car 2 yrs ready, I hate see that but no choice. Thank you if u can help

Hi, regarding this video, very informative, thx. I have a 2006 e60 M5, and the cable layout is different from what you show here. It appears that the BST cable going to the sensor fuse has 3 leads in it, rather than the 2 that you show. I wouldn't know which 2 out of 3 to bypass. Any suggestions? I'd be happy to provide a pic. BTW, how did you stumble on this bypass trick, and what are the side effects of doing it? much obliged. Albert

Hi I found on eBay A resistor of the following kind "Resistor, metal layer, 2.2k Ohm, 1/4W 1%, 50 pcs.” Is that okay? Please answer the question Thank you 😊
i will try this i bought a car yesterday and upon this video i bent down to look at mine to find that . In the past Whoever changed the battery put the battery in and because of the tight fitment from BMW they shorted the Positive from the battery onto the body of the car which is metal. I think you said something about this type of install can cause this cable to back feed. Am I correct in understanding? ont
