- Tokyo by Train (2016). What would it be like to ride on Tokyo's trains from first train to last? Japan's trains are famous for their convenience. I love them so much I decided to ride them all day, visitings tons of stations (Shinjuku, Shibuya, Tokyo). Sadly, I never got pushed on a train during rush hour by the infamous train pushers.
Yes, this is a re-upload from my Life Where I'm From X channel from 2016. I figured that there are many people on this main LWIF channel that have never seen this video before. Plus, let's try out Premiere for the first time and watch it together!

Hey everyone! Hope to see you at the Premiere (July 4th, 10PM JST). First time trying this. Decided to do it with an old favourite from the X channel (i.e. this is a re-upload but I'll be watching and commenting on it live at that time). Bye for now!
I looked at when people most watch my videos, and it starts at 10pm JST, so that's why I picked that time to do the premiere. I didn't realize it was America Day that I scheduled the premiere on, but if it's any consolation, I also forgot about Canada Day. What I mean to say, is happy days to everyone!
@@LifeWhereImFrom no matter we still love your video
Ive been there 😍😍😍😍
This is one of your best vids
What about disabled people? Can they get on the train? (it's a major problem here for ppl in wheelchairs, etc)
This is an excellent documentary. The only improvement I can think of is a map in the corner showing your path.
Alan S you are right! It would be so much better.
Great idea! Hope to see this in the next one
Also a clock!
I recall NHK used maps in the corner to show where they are filming in some segments
In some of those posts or columns, there you would find inscribed the whole route and the length of time between stations. Also, there's a big board indicating the whole schedule of the day. What amazed me is that the time inscribed on the schedule is always met.
The two salarymen practicing their swings made my day
you mean they're not duck hunters or gunslingers?!!! :-0
and Takeshi Kitano sleeping in the train looked very funny )))
I was planning on coming back to Japan in winter and sadly, I probably have less than a 5% chance of that happening at this point. So your videos help me relive memories ❤️
Also: while the walkways in Tokyo are spectacular, I spent 4 weeks in Calgary and in my opinion, those walkways in the city were the most astonishing I had ever seen, so Canada can compete! 🙏
Woah, I didn't know you watched Life where i'm from! I used to watch your dropshipping videos when I was a beginner!
@@WholesaleTed wholesale Ted lol I know you! I’ve watched some of your videos. Fancy randomly seeing your comment here. And yes, having lived in Calgary for four years, Calgary’s got an awesome LRT system. Some of My fondest memories where in the train ... especially during The Calgary Stampede Carnival 🎡😊😊😊
Same, was planning to go on a year-long stay next year. How things are looking right now, doesn't seem like it will happen (I doubt things will get immediately better in 2021, my country has one of the worst infection rates in Europe so we probably won't be allowed anywhere for a long time and if the Olympics do happen next year then that's also not a great year to choose to say). Hoping that by 2022 I will be finally able to do it.
I spent almost 3 months in Tokyo when I started in high tech - I found that the train system is extremely exceptional. I don't speak Japanese and easily found my way around to anywhere I wanted or needed to go. I miss Japan and hope to visit again.
17:05, love how the older man teaches his fella golf
This is one of my favourite videos on your channel!! I honestly can just rewatch this video and not be bored and I was just re-watching Tokyo by Bike! Will there be a Tokyo by BUS, next? Your videos are so beautiful and your hard work is very much appreciated!!! Thank you!
I think it'll be by boat
I would love a bus video someday as well! When I was in Japan the bus system seemed more complicated than trains so I avoided taking them.
@@LifeWhereImFrom That seems interesting too!
@@LifeWhereImFrom now that you have done boat, is it bus now?
I love both of these videos as well. Both re-watchable.
I miss Japan 😔😔😔 When I visited the country it helped me get through my depression. It's so peaceful, clean, etc. i could walk the streets all day and just look at the houses buildings, parks etc.
I watched this video four times! And it always amazes my how well maintained and clean the stations and trains are, also everybody waits patiently in lines for the trains, japanese people are really polite and respectful
Thanks to everyone who joined the live stream!!!!
And now that it's not in Premiere, it's in 4K!
@@LifeWhereImFrom hey was this a reupload?
Ok Boomer yes it was
Hey man 👋🏻. I have seen in other videos that these trains get so packed that elementary school kids sometimes fit in between adults legs on the floor on their way to and from school. Have you ever seen that?
@@matthewjay660 Did you check the year when that video was taken? Or even better, post the link here.

Sorry, I don't have the timing.
Perfect, arigato !!!
Thank you! You choose awesome music.
Listening music from Epidemic Sound during a pandemic.. hahahaha
What is the song that is played at 24:45? It doesn't match any of the tracks listed...
Awesome music from perfect name for the time. Epidemic sound!
This video is so underrated. For me, it's one of the best video on UA-cam.
I wish transit was as expansive as Japans, everywhere else in the world. I'll always remember how easy it was to get around Japan!
I've been trapped so long in this house, I never dreamed I'd actually miss seeing crowded trains/train stations!
My niece moved to Tokyo over 12 years ago to attend Waseda University, she has made a wonderful life for herself! Shes married with a beautiful baby girl. Watching your videos over the years has made me feel connected Japanese culture and life. Your videos are definitely on fleek :) :)
Good to see this coming over to LWIF! This is a personal favorite!
Same, this is the video that made me a Patreon for Greg. There is something about this video that makes it striking yet tranquil. I can't exactly pinpoint what it is, probably the videography, the music, or his added comments.
@@gmusashi_45 it's the timing of cuts with music, excellent choice of b roll, and Greg's soothing tone for me.
What I notice about this is that Japan is constantly developing to some of the problems it's facing even though it is seen as superbly developed than the rest of the world (the road repairs, late trains, and even people falling on train tracks). Change really is constant and vital for a country that I wish every government should emulate. Thank you for this!
My god I never witness such a cute scene like the two man golf swing (in the middle of train station) before. It made me love Japan even more.
I'm planning to visit japan next year and this is one the videos that motivated that decision. A definite must watch if you haven't already :)
I'm hoping for a Tokyo trip next year too!
Tokyo by Bike was the video that has booked my tickets. I can't wait. :)
Ren I was to but am unsure if it would be more expensive if the olympics go ahead
I want to be equipped with as much knowledge when i go there but not enough that im still not amazed by japan. I really want to go to the southern ryukyu islands and listen to some of the native throat singing there like Ikue asazaki
I remember watching this video when it came out and being amazed by how clean, punctual and convenient trains are. ❤👏🏻
can we get a series of greg touring the world, showing us the culture and infrastructure in different countries? his documentary style is so easy to watch, his calm demeanour (plus chill canadian accent) makes him easy to listen to and the information/content is easy to digest! i need this now, netflix
I keep coming back to this video on a yearly basis - just rewatched it again! I'm a big fan of these 'epic journey' features where you cross Tokyo by bike, boat, or train as you've done here. I find interesting new things with each revisit. This time around thgouh I can't help but feel pandemic weary (as is everyone else I'm sure) and I look forward to the day when I can see Tokyo again, or simply even move freely around my hometown of Toronto again. I have not even travelled on the TTC for well over two years now! Anyhow Greg, please keep up the fantastic storytelling and keep safe!
One of my favourite videos of yours. I always liked 'people watching', folks are fascinating. I like imagining their goings about. And this feeds right into that, so many folks going to and fro in so many places.
This is one of the best things I've ever seen on UA-cam. Your work is great in general, but this is a one in a million piece of art where everything ends up fitting together perfectly.
I love the idea of the Silver jinzai, I feel sometimes we get the impression that older folks don't have much of a place in wider society when in fact they are so important, a part of our living history and with so much experience and wisdom as a group that they can offer to everyone.
I agree. My father-in-law passed away two years ago, and my 80-year-old mother-in-law is so bored with nothing to do. We offered to have her move close to us, but she doesn't want to move out of her house. She needs something to do, but I think the thought of driving across the city to be around strangers is too daunting for her. It would be amazing if she could help with the schools or parks near her house to help the community.

For anyone who has traveled to Japan for vacation, this video is so nostalgic. Awww, I wanna go back soon!
I just wanted to comment and say how much I appreciate your channel and videos! The amount of work you put into them really shows with the excellent quality
This was a fantastic documentary in 2016 and it's still just as great in 2020! It was also nostalgic seeing many of the same stations and streets that I've visited, especially since we can't travel back to Japan right now. Thanks for the throwback to some quality content and for all of the new projects you're working on and sharing with us. Your docu-game is still on fleek!
probably one of my favourite youtube videos ever, happy to see this re-upload pop up on my recommended 4 years later
Awe man. I thought it premiered right now (its 3:00).... but its TOMORROW NOOOOOOO
Edit: i can’t wait. Your videos are always top-notch quality.
I love this video, I really find the tunes and sounds played in the station platforms really quite comforting. I really miss Tokyo trains.
The scene when the two salary men were discussing about golf (I think) was probably my favorite scene as well!
Thank you for uploading this movie. I remembered my own life in Japan which already passed by.
ありがとうございます☺️
I've seen this before, but I'm glad to have an excuse to watch it again. The exploration videos like this and the bike one recently are my favourite type of videos of yours.
The quality of your videos still amazes me each time. Thank you.
I swear I enjoyed this even more the second time! You put so much effort into your videos it's unreal. You're a big inspiration!
Another relaxing and informative video. Thanks for all of your hard work, Greg. Definitely what I needed.
When I first visited Japan, I spent a day riding all the Metro line coz I have the 72hrs metro card. It was sooooo fun. It helped me get used to Japan's train system.
I wish I could do this too, so I could visit every Tokyo Subway station in one day
Great to see so many places we went to visit last summer… keeping our travels within the Tokyo are - great episode!
I so super love this video! The pacing, the editing, the music, the translation of those wonderful sentences I heard so often in our 3 weeks there and not knowing what they meant, Love to See what you drunk and ate, all the extra information. This ist really hard to watch right now not being able to visit this autumn 💔. Thank you for this amazing Video!
I loved these kind of videos where you show everyday life in Japan. It's interesting to see how life goes about in different places in Japan, away from the touristy places.
my favourite part of your travelling videos are sporting places i’ve been to before and thinking wow i’ve walked there before!!!! thoroughly enjoyed this video specifically focusing on the trains as transport! there’s always something so fun, peaceful and enjoyable about taking trains and having no destination in mind.
Really enjoyed this video!! I really love their train announcements and station music, those little things that makes the trip more enjoyable :)
This vid is getting me excited about my first trip to Japan with my daughters in June 2023!
This video is making memories from my trips to Tokyo hit hard. Can't wait to get back
6:10 that monorail was pretty cool when I rode it from Tokyo to haneda airport, the view was really nice. I usually fly to narita, but haneda is a pretty cool airport too
As someone who loves trains and the train experience, this video was a treat. Thank you very much.
these vids of you just going around Tokyo are always a great watch
Greg you came such a long way since doing this channel , This is probably the Defacto channel for things variety japan , amazing job with the care quality , and Visual direction , your key and establishing shots all have very good space and composition , if its one thing i have to say about your visual style , its very patient , and is very easy on the eyes , and i like how you try to pace with the crowd seamlessly, keep`em coming greg !
Thanks UA-cam for showing me this channel... What did I just have seen?? This was an awesome documentary!! Just by watching this you can get the feeling of traveling yourself there ❤️🇯🇵. Thank you so much. Your camera and music timing is really nice. You have got a new subscriber 😄😄😄
your video never ceases to amaze me, this is one of the favourites .... jeez, I missed travelling to japan.
Thanks for sharing your day on trains traveling around Tokyo😊 It’s honestly my favorite way to get around most cities in Asia.
I love your videos man! It feels like I'm there while I was watching it.
Great video, just the sounds of the announcements and sounds make me feel so nostalgic for past trips and make me need to plan my next visit
This is amazing, miss Japan and Tokyo so much, this is such a nice taster of the sights and sounds. Thanks for making this 👍🏻
What a great video! Love all the scenery! I just love seeing the ordinary passerby just of daily life.
Hi Greg! I've watched all your documentaries. Even though there are other channels about Japan, why i prefer to watch only yours is that you have such a soothing and non irritating voice. Nice work!! I'm from Sri Lanka btw.
First time watching this, and wow. Thank you for wonderfully capturing the feeling of riding the trains in Tokyo. The music, the shots, everything. I really miss it.
I appricate this video so much, just came home from a long shift. In my pj's watching this video, it's so relaxing and the music in this video amazing.
Keep up your hardwork😊
I always admire the care people put into their presentation in Japan.
Oh man this was my favourite video of that year. Loved the cuts and narration behind it.
I really really like this kind of videos, to see the daily life of peoples, seeing many faces as you strolling along the way, to see many places I've never been before. Please do more of this kind of videos.
As someone who can't travel I rly appreciate chill vids like these ty so much! ❤️❤️❤️
This video is so relaxing watching this as I hear rain falling on my window is great Sunday relaxation.
thanks for this love your work and dedication
Thank you for doing this video. As someone who is missing Japan, I need this kind of video
Everything is so ridiculously sparkling clean. I love it.
riding the trains was one of my favorite things when i went to Tokyo last year. Wish i had more time to explore
You make excellent videos doing such a great job of catching everyday life happenings making them so interesting. I spent a few weeks in Tokyo and enjoyed the trains so much. I can't wait for the day when we can get out and travel again. Thank you for bringing a piece of the world to us.
Loved it!! Actually all your vids are awesome, but this and the bike ride (that i watched a few times :)) are especially great.
Hope to see Kamakura one day!
Already watched this video..didn't notice it was from the X channel..thank you for this amazing video!
I watched the first video you recorded showing the trains in Tokyo and this one is awesome! Thanks a lot for sharing this!
Loved it, it was very peaceful watching all the different types of scenery that the rains went through.
So clean and everything efficient
My favorite video of all time from you!
I love every videos about Japanese Train 🥰 bring back memories.
Excellent documentary. Thanks for doing this and providing a window to the Tokyo train system.
Another excellent video. I visit Tokyo often and love it. A big part of the experience is riding the amazing train system. It's so efficient, prompt, clean and usually relaxing because even when it's packed, people are mostly polite and quiet. You captured the unique sounds of the stations and trains well. I also enjoyed the variety of areas you visited, many of which were familiar, but some were new to me. As we can't travel during the current pandemic, thank you for this little escape back to my beloved Tokyo. I'll hopefully be back soon.
Hi Greg, thanks for re-posting this. Really. I enjoyed it both times.
The music selection for the soundtrack is divine!
When I'm on the train in Japan... I love going to the front and watch the conductor giving hand signals.. mostly to himself, and the way he puts his pocket watch in the little cubicle designed for it...it's little things like that that makes going to Japan so much fun..I love your videos. Domo arigato.
Watched this in 2016 and now in 2020, it's still amazing like back then. High quality stuff as always.~
When I was a teenager in southeastern Massachusetts, I used to take the train into Boston and just ride all day. I loved it. This is a cool video!
I've seen quite a few of your videos, this one was great, thanks for doing this!
OMG 😱, That was amazing! Thank you for such a wonderful video and also a different type of trip like tour of Tokyo. It just makes me excited to hopefully return to Japan one day to visit again (first ever visit 2019) after the pandemic is handled better by the world. Keep up the great work! I learn so much from your videos!
What a relaxing video. Thanks you!!
You always deliver. This was wonderful.
Thank you, really had an unpleasant day but that was rather calming.
This was so fun to watch! Thank you for creating!😃
At the last video you said that you don't recommend to do this, but for me, if I go to Tokyo this is exactly what I'll do. I mean, isn't it awesome to see so much in one day. From people starting their day, go to work or school, to people that beginning new chapter in their life, married, or travel away. Then at the end of the day you can see some people are going home, releasing the steam while some other just about to start their work. And to think that each of them have their own story is just so wonderful.
Can’t wait to visit Japan and as always your videos does always helps alot and really enjoyed your videos 🙌🏻
what an absolute blast this video was to watch. brings back so many memories. really hope we all can live our live normal again one day so people can experience Japan freely again.
Love this video! It's very chill and good vibes. Great job 👍
Me and my family love to watch your channel. We are going to Japan, so your channel helps a lot😁. Thank you soo much.
Heyy Greg! This video definitely deserves to be on the main channel! Looking forward to your next video.
This is a great channel. I visited Japan only once for two weeks but the videos bring back a lot of memories. You also have a great family and lifestyle. I wish I could learn about saving space.... I always fill my space with clutter.
Thanks again Greg for another insightful video.
I loved the background music in this video! This guy is so wholesome.
Fantastic video, as always. Thanks!
Great video! Thanks so much. Great to watch when you're stuck at home...
