You know what else I hate about this new Draculaura? Is that she is what most modern media depict teenage vampires: angsty, antisocial, dark secret. What made OG Draculaura so great was that, not only did she embrace the romanian style in her daily outfit but was the complete opposite of what modern vampires were expected to be at the time. She was bubbly, sweet, loved fashion and boys and always offered a shoulder to cry on. Not only that but she also stood out amongst other vampires WITHIN the Monster High universe. This film paints itself as progressive and open minded when it is in fact enforcing these steryotypes that weren't even all that appealing when they were in their prime.

Z-O-M-B-I-E-S pretty much did the same thing. They did it sloppily, but those are at least fun movies

@@auggiemain But she doesn't, and that's my problem with it. It was never brought up again that she skates, never played a role, and we didn't even see a skateboard in her room. She skateboards in the beginning, and then for the rest of the movie she doesn't have any interests.
If all that could be overlooked, in the character descriptions, Ghoulia's says she likes to skateboard, but the same isn't said for Clawdeen. I'm disappointed.

I really don't like how they're making deuce a "reformed bad boy" even though deuce was never a bad guy, he didn't go down a rough path at any point and he's always nice to everyone that's one of the reasons him and Cleo work so well🙄

I feel that Lagoona, Ghoulia, Abbey, Heath barely did anything in the movie, it felt to me they were cameos, instead of side characters. at least we got some background interactions between Abbey and Heath.

Headmistress Bloodgood was one of the main adults fighting for equal rights in the OG show. She even said that her main goal was to make monster high equal for all monsters, and even open it humans one day. Her goal was equality. Making her predjudiced completely erased her ENTIRE character.
The Duece and Clawdeen ship just feels like they took the most popular female character and most popular male character from the original Monster High and were like, “They belong together!” (Ignore Cleo there in the background). Also, did this feel like Nickelodeon was trying to copy Zombies to anyone?
All that said, I liked the songs and the actors did great with the roles they were given.

@AJ She's one of the most popular female characters. I'm pretty sure her and Draculora are tied. Edit: I looked it up, and it seems in recent years, Clawdeen has become more of a fan favorite but for the most part they're still tied.

I believe Frankie is Blue because of copyright reasons with Universal. Although Frankenstein is in the public domain, Universal has the rights to the iconic Green Frankenstein with bolts on the neck. Ghoulia might be green just so that way she is a different color than Frankie

I was so upset that Headmistress Bloodgood was racist. Not only humans, but she was saying all gorgons are bad? It just doesn't sit right that she has been headmistress for centuries to the only school that accepts all monsters no matter what, and she's racist.
There are three adults in this movie, and personally I don't want to see one of them have the character arc of "not being racist." She should be over that by now.

I watched monster high when I was little, And I wasnt scared. In fact, in G1, they made the classic horrors and legends non scary for kids! At that time, I was scared of anything horror related, even skulls, I was also scared of the nightmare before christmas! Monster high G1 was so kid friendly that even the kids weren't scared of it! It was nice!!!

My mom and I, as monster high fans, got through the first 35 mins and had to stop. We're finishing tomorrow but it was so difficult. They just changed everything. The monsters have hated humans in the past, but even then it was due to anxiety of Halloween. And not them erasing holt Hyde and Jackson jekyll. The best characters. I'm just disappointed and shocked how many people like it so far. They've rewritten so many characters, I wish they just changed the names at this point
I understand very well, but I have no problem with the changes. I'm the type that's completely ok with certain changes. I already expected the movie to be mediocre anyway, I'm not surprised that not everyone liked it.

clawdeen's siblings have been confirmed to appear in the animated series! probably won't be related anymore, but at least they still exist!
Imagine if it’s like a plot twist where the mom is still alive & she just divorced the dad & got remarried so Clawdeen still has her siblings but they’re her half siblings.
They said as dolls they would be released, and Miia (Clawdeen's actress) said she hopes they put Clawd, Claudia and Howleen in the 2nd movie and she said that to the directors.

@@laraprisma6381 I think if you look at this as a stand alone and don't compare to the original it's actually very good and diverse and great for young kids to see and understand that they can just be themselves and if they do that they'll end up with the people that actually love them for who they are. I love that about this movie. It's just another thing to teach you children that can be themselves and still be loved and care for and have friends and family. If I had kids I would definitely want them to watch this and hope it helps them see they can be themselves. I actually really enjoyed it. I mean the original is better of course but originals always are

Hi! I think you might have meant that Lagoona in the first generation was Australian and now for this reboot 3rd generation she is Latina. Also, draculaura In the first generation was from Romanian and now she is Taiwanese, I believe.
I feel Draculaura's new backround is politiced, as her being part "taiwanese" by her mom is kinda... specific. Taiwan is not a country in theory (just 11 countries recognized it as a country and probably in the future non will as how it decreased it's recognition over the years), and actually many people from Taiwan see themselfs as chinese, so why not say "Draculaura is half chinese" instead of "taiwanese" . And why from all the parts in China they choose for Draculaura's mom to be the one that is actually in internacional conflict? That kinda seems sus tbh.

Honestly? I thought the movie had potential, or they could’ve at least made up new characters as like “ the new generation” or something like that. The songs were a bop but the movie was a flop, I give it a 3/10 ps Frankie was ADORABLE and has my heart! ❤️

I had the exact same thoughts. Imo a new generation would work wonders. It also opens up the potential to try new monsters as well. Perhaps ones that weren’t touched upon a lot in the last two generations, like Yokai.

The songs aren’t bad but they sound cheaply produced. The vocals were way too loud over the instrumental most of the time so something went wrong mixing wise.

as its own thing it's really not that bad, especially when comparing the original to the new animated series, but I guess just the nostalgia of it and it being completely different throws some people off
@@mooshroom4163 Yes... People just don't like change! I'm the type to support reboots until they're good on their own! Like the she-ra reboot! It was the first reboot I've seen since 2016's Powerpuff Girls, and she-ra is so much better! It's not perfect and has several flaws, but I really liked it! And I've never seen she-ra original! The same goes for Rise of The tmnt, very different but made by people who really love tmnt! It's not made by people who hate the original than in the creators of Thunder Cats Rowr who openly They confessed to hating the original and that they wanted to ruin the franchise on purpose!! Rise had the voice actor of Raphael from the 80's series as dubbing director! If there's someone who knows more about this franchise than anyone else, it's him!!
Sorry about all this! I really don't like the needless hate of reboots! I think if teen titans Go and the other cartoon Network reboots never existed, the reputation of reboots would be less negative.
@@laraprisma6381 all of these points are very valid and I agree reboots can be really good! Especially ones like rise and shera, I myself have rewritten stories I like not so much as hate out of the original but because I feel passionate enough about it to put my own creative spin on it. I more so certain reboots that in the eyes of many don't really do the original justice, because people are comparing the new one to old ones and beloved characters that are completely different. I've seen really good feedback and not good feedback on MH, and after ever after high was dropped I don't know how they could up the original, or if they ever will. But hey, they might surprise us!

If I were tasked with making a live action MH movie, I would basically just make it a straightforward Teen movie, but they just happen to be monsters. Like, the fun part about the original Monster High was it was basically just random teen antics in high school, but they’re vampires and werewolves. Like I would just combine the plots of New ghoul @ school and the Fearleading nationals storyline. Clawdeen would still be the main character, but the half human thing would be completely abandoned.
So you’d make them all monsters but do nothing with all of that potential storytelling?

I’m sorry but I honestly dislike what they did to the characters, do I even have to give a reason? Dracularas iconic mood and pigtails, Clawdeens girl boss personality and All her siblings are just gone and I miss her accent, Cleo and Deuce broke up, the new designs are just a bit weird (I’m fine with Lagoona having piranha teeth, Dracularas practicing witch magic) but everything else just like why? Monster high was a big part of my child hood they kind of ruined it they changed the personality’s so much and the other characters really didn’t do much in the movie will Clawd still be with Draculara? I might be seen as petty but that’s just my opinion I know it isn’t a big deal but for me it saddens me how they changed so much stuff.

I would be angry about Draculaura's personality change, but somehow this Draculaura just fits so well to the vibe of this movie.
Clawdeen on the other hand is just horrible, they basically made her into a much worse version of Frankie
In the Series she is a mix of this movie and G1/G2 Draculaura, she is sweet but does have a competitive attitude.

There's a huge difference between costuming yourself, and costuming a bunch of people. Also they were going for a more casual look rather than costume look. Someone who worked on costumes said they didn't do a bad job.

Clawdeen (in G1) was not a lesbian, the creator of MH just agreed that her being one is a cool idea. Clawdeen was just supposed to be a character who is not as “boy-crazy” as Frankie and Draculaura. As far as I remember, she even dated guys and flirted with them in the past. So, she still might be bisexual, which is, in my view, awesome!

i really loved the songs in this, absolute bops, will listen again, although I have some questions to the art director, there were some weird moments there.
frankie was my fave, like maybe I am biased bc I already loved ceci, but they were just adorable
there are a few inconsistencies and questions that I can look past in this, but there is one that absolutely sends me every time. deuce says "imagine never taking these glasses off, no one trusts me, teachers think i'm sleeping" and there is all the stuff about not being able to stare into anyone's eyes, and i'm like yeah, when you wear sunglasses, this all makes sense, but they gave this version regular glasses that I assumed had special lenses that stop you from being turned into stone, and I was fine with that, cuz I get you need to see an actor's eyes, and also sunglasses can be a mess for production, and also maybe it fits into the reformed bad boy thing, he can have regular glasses and it works, BUT WHY WOULD YOU WRITE THIS SPECIFIC LINE AS IF HE WORE SUNGLASSES????? he literallysays I wish I could see your eyes and the next frame they are staring into each other's eyes with their CLEAR GLASSES!!!!
I think they were like tinted so maybe he meant like stare directly in his eye you know without a glass frame covering them and them being tinted but the teachers thinking he's sleeping makes no sense. I said the same thing when he said that I was like how would they not know he's awake 😂
Also Frankie was my favorite too but it probably at least partially because I also love Ceci. They are so awesome. I wish I could meet them in person. They seem so sweet and nice, I love them!

I mean I kinda get that (as a person who wears glasses). It’s really really really stupid, I know, but for me, seeing something without glasses, like with my “real eyes”, feels more special than with them. 😅

Everything you said in this movie is what I have been ranting about to my friends since it came out. I miss all the missing accents and characters that they left out or got rid of all together. Monster High was my childhood- I watched all the movies- and this movie basically changed most of the characters I grew up loving. 😢

I kinda get why Draculaura would be like that. Imagine your the daughter of Dracula, a well-known feared monster. The pressure to uphold the Dracula image, do well in school and to hide who you truly are, it explains why she wouldn’t want to have friends at an arms length.

The weird part is the comparison you made between Lagoona in this movie and OG Draculaura makes me wonder why Draculaura, as her cute, bubbly self, wasn't in the "Queen Bee's Bestie" spot if Ghoulia wasn't going to be? Like, it's pretty obvious to me that they're both from prestigious families who are pretty controlling and expect a lot from their children (or, at least, it's safe to guess that that's at least one reason Cleo is the way she is), and I could see their families pulling what Amity's parents did to her in The Owl House and "gently encouraging" them to be best friends. And if Cleo was really supposed to be this awful person, they could have showed her being a bossy and overbearing friend to Draculaura and perhaps ratting her out for practicing witchcraft. That or maybe they could have shared the witchcraft secret because maybe Cleo has taken to seeing it as being a way to honor the ancient Egyptian gods.
Am I the only one who thinks the creators rebranded Monster high a little to early? I wouldn't care if it happened but this is major monster high content; I think it was risky to completely rebrand what made it loveable for the first live action. They could have attracted older and newer fans to the franchise if they had executed it better.

gonna be honest here, i thought the movie was pretty okay. like, maybe it’s because i got used to watching nickelodeon movies, so it wasn’t hard for me to watch it.
i really wish they didn’t push clawdeen dating deuce, but other than that this movie was fine :) i really loved the music, and some of the characters were pretty good, i loved frankie!! they make me happy!!

second thing not only does claudine being half human not make any sense on it's own but most clasic monsters are human fx zombie: dead human, ghost: dead human, mummy: dead human, vampire: dead human, witches: very alive humans who just happen to practise witchcraft.
MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY! In the animated show, Frankie used the technicality that “Clawdeen” was doing witchcraft (as to hide Draculaura’s witchy side) as a human, not a monster, to avoid getting in trouble and it’s like… wasn’t Frankie a collection of dead human’s body parts? I wish it had a similar backstory to G1 because at least then you could see that although they do not go to the same schools (besides a select few), monsters and humans still know about each other and live in the same world.
I thought it was cute, but it didn't have the maturity of the original. The ogs felt like actual teenagers. These felt like middleschoolers. They also felt like completely different people. Like idk why they made the most mature, sarcastic and confident character the awkward geek. Also i love draculaura in this but she's a different character, and honestly draculaura was a style icon but i didn't like her personality that much so maybe thats why i like the reboot.

I actually thought the movie plot was like Harry potter and the chamber of secrets. The whole monster heart or impure monster thing is just like mud bloods and pure bloods which is introduced and mainly expressed in chamber of secrets. The lab thing is just like the chamber. The formula and mr cosmos going in there is like the basilisk. Someone (cosmos, Tom riddle) got in the chamber and lab through students. They didn’t know if they could keep the school open because of those problems. The attacks of petrificación are kind of similar to cosmos using monsters powers against them (even if it’s just in the end it’s literally the same, I mean deuce got turned into stone is very similar to someone being petrified too.) The whole reason for all of this is blood purity and/or who you were born too, monster and wizards, or muggles and humans. Not to mention the writing with blood on the walls which is just obvious.

Also based on what I’ve seen g3 lagoona is more like g1 draculaura but like also with blood thirsty twist. She grew up in isolation and loves romance, fairy tails and telenovelas, but unlike draculaura she’s very much not a vegan and I feel like has to hold back her murderous intent. “A star crossed romance between a monster and a witch, the monster eats the witch and makes accessories out of their bones!” Shes adorable and terrifying and I love g3 lagoona while also liking chill g1 lagoona. (This is mostly the cartoon which is better than the movie.)
If I knew anything about Monster High, I could see being frustrated at the refusal to be loyal to significant aspects of the source material.

Saying it’s made for kids is such a terrible excuse,it should be made for everyone but be child friendly especially a legacy brand like monster high. Things that are aimed for everyone tend to have longevity than things that’ll solely for kids.

Frankie is non-binary in this generation, they say that in the beginning of the movie when they meet Clawdeen. Also lagoona is latina now and so is Clawdeen, Draculaura is taiwanese now as well.

Making one poorly received reboot is one thing, but making a poorly received reboot (Monster High 2022) one year after ANOTHER poorly received reboot (Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go) is something so legendarily bad that:
1. Only corporate greed and corporate ineptitude can explain completely.
2. Only Mattel knows the reason.
3. The ill-timing seems completely deliberate.
as someone that struggles a lot with change, i try my best to make peace with whatever changes happen, no matter how hard they might be to adjust to. if i have a problem with it, i normally keep it to myself. but this type of change...i just dont understand. what is the point of changing characters so drastically they dont feel like the same characters anymore? same reason why i didnt like the PPG reboot, which is another series i grew up with. modernizing is fine, reboots are fine, but these just dont feel familiar in the slightest. theyre basically just original characters with familiar names slapped onto them. and it doesnt make any sense to me. and i get change can be good, but sometimes it just isnt necessary.

And a detail that was never brought to light but it's extremaly important is that Bloodgood indirectly caused Hyde's death. He was under her care, under her protection, and she knew that Monster High was the only place he would be safe from humans. But she let him down, and he got killed. And! He only created that potion thing *because* Bloodgood found out and was going to expel him. Otherwise, he would continue his life as normal.
What angers me is that they *never* acknoledge that. Bloodgood is just like "Ooh, Clawdeen, we accept you!", And we are to forget that she caused an inocent student's death simply because he wasn't like the others? No. Don't work like that.
The movie ends in a note that seems like Hyde (and maybe Jekyll, by extension) was a bad seed from the start, and that Komos was unjustifyed, but that's not the case at all. Hyde/Jekyll were just trying to live their lives even though they felt like they didn't belong anywhere, just like Clawdeen. He/they didn't deserve to be swept under the rug like they did in the end.

When watching the movie, I tried not to compare it to original. But my mom, who's watched the Monster High movies with me during my Monster High obsession, pointed out how the new movie was completely different and we were mourning together.
For a rating, I would give this movie a solid 5/10 because I had a half and half feeling about it without comparing it to the original. The writing felt iffy, and the plot felt a little bit off. I found the story of Mr. Hyde a little sad because they were talking about how terrible humans were when they kicked out Hyde for doing absolutely nothing but being half human. The CGI did look a little off to me, but I can let the pass because I can never notice terrible CGI when I'm trying to follow the story of a movie. Also the romance between Deuce and Clawdeen felt forced. And some of the character designs were just humans in bright eye make-up, not even a full body paint just make-up, with a wig or dyed hair or highlights 💀
On the other hand, I loved the main character's designs(except Frankie's bright pink earring in their final outfit). But, I'll let that slide just being Frankie is so gosh darn adorable in this movie. They were even the shortest character compared to the other main characters. Frankie was already in my top five favorite characters, but for this movie, they are my first favorite character. Also, I love how Clawdeen is the tallest out of all the main characters except Deuce. It just looks so cute. Another thing I like is the songs. I could listen to them everyday. The colors in this movie are really pretty too. I really like the blue and purple theme to it. Also also, Clawdeen's human self looks so adorable, I love short curly hair.
I better stop writing this before I turn this into a whole ass essay. So ya, 5/10, partially recommend it
I think if you're going to watch this movie you shouldn't compare it to G1 as those are two separate things and worlds and this a reboot.
Me personally? I enjoyed it. It was cute and the main trios relationship was nice to see. The outfits weren't as bad as everyone said they were going to be. I loved Frankie's 2nd outfit, Draculaura's last outfit, and the outfit Clawdeen had on when she sneaked into Bloodgood's outfit. It was an all over cute movie.
Wish they didn't push Clawdeen being interested in Deuce. Like sis had more chemistry in the movie with Draculaura and Cleo than Deuce.

Exactly, I don't compare with G1, EVER! For me, it would be very silly to compare completely different things even if they are similar. They are from the same franchise, yes! But they are extremely different! And they must be kept as their own things!
This is how I prefer to accept reboots! Like something that shouldn't try to be what the original was and be unique in its own way!
And about Clawdeen and draculaura, I have a headcanon that G3 Clawdeen is bisexual! Better that than her being purely straight!

I got to play the cyclops character that shows up in a few scenes. Even though the movie wasnt the best its one of the nicest casts ive worked with in Canada.
I don't know if it could fix the movie, but here's some of what I think would have made it better:
A) Frankie as the protagonist. Seriously, was main character status the price for making them non-binary?
B) This isn't Clawdeen Wolf. This is a generic girl lead with no personality so the targeted demograph can use her as a surrogate. What should have happened: Clawdeen turns into a human because werewolf, so she's guarded until the roomies grow on her. Instead of Clawdeen getting cozy with Deuce, Frankie and Draculaura try to steal a lock of Clawdeen's hair. Her story is she's primed to take Cleo's queen bee spot, but they make up eventually.
C) Kill the teen romance subplot. Cleo and Deuce are meant to be, and it's just wrong if Clawdeen's not gay.
D) The whole "moral" wasn't a bait and switch with Clawdeen and Komos. Monster High didn't like the lack of unity. Revealing secret "flaws" and everyone accepting everyone would heal it.
Fr like deuce and clawdeen are NOT cute together, It's clear the directors and writers barely had any connection or cared about monster high, they messed up clawdeen ALOT my beautiful confident queen just turned to a "quirky girl that skates but it's never mentioned in the movie Ever again" her mom and all of her brothers vanished and now she's Basic. Clawdeen is not straight 👹 she's never been straight, And deuce dated cleo 😩 also why make her half human????? Never made sense to me- Ever- it would of been cool if this was like their daughters or sm but they just decided to play with the characters 😭 also they just switched draculauras personality to the exact opposite of what it was- like I love the new design of her but the fact she was nasty half the movie makes her feel like a new character, also cleo was a basic mean girl L don't do this to the queen. 💀 anyways that's my take
well as far as I remember,clawdeen was never gay anyway, she was very interested in dancing with one of the so called "hot" guys at a prty they had at the end of one of the movies, so I dont think that part changed too much- but yeah most other things I agree with.
I'm sure this was said before but if this was a stand alone (like MH didn't exist) it would still be a meh movie but interesting concept. I personally didn't like it but I can see why others might.
But bc MH has been a thing and a very well loved franchised even with it's many versions, it's just hard to get past that they just changed all the characters. At least to me the MH characters are what MADE MH so beloved and then I see this and go "who are these ppl???" so annoying!
I don't understand the deviation from the source material at all. Not even the whole "make it more for this generation" you could still do that but keep them similar to who they are. I enjoyed the movie, until the ending. Maybe it’s just me, but I was lowkey rooting for Komos to destroy the school. I don’t blame him for being mad, Bloodgood and everyone else literally sent his father to die for no reason, heck I would be mad too. G1 may also have racism, but never sent Jackson to his death. They made Monster High more morally corrupted than they were before.

In Ghouls Rule Jackson almost gets killed and his monster friends team up with two friendly humans to save him. The monsters didnt have a problem with humans, it was the other way around.
Here’s my biggest problem. They just left Cleo’s arch in the dust. She just gave up her love for duece bc what? The mc loved him? Apparently she’s like self obsessed but everyone knows it’s all like a front from being in her royal ass awful family. The end was just her giving up and getting a side role??? Cleo was always kinda a side character but not like this. She is not a villain and they didn’t even make her that villain-y, she wasn’t even that mean. She’s just “self obsessed” bc why? They were trying to seem like mean girls and pull a smart nerdy girl mean popular girl thing but like.. it’s not working. Cleo just looks like a godamn victim who’s just feigning self confidence. The whole social media following Frankie thing didn’t even come across as mean to me? She has like no friends so obvi she was gonna follow some new nice person? Right? Just nothing adds up to me..

i watched it multiple times and i really enjoyed it! i really love the settings, characters and styling, abbey, clawdeen and draculaura's outfits were so good! plus the soundtrack absolutely bangs, and i love nonbinary frankie. deuce's snakes gave me a jumpscare tho 😭
I'm almost 30, but I very much enjoyed this movie. The main trio were adorable, the songs were extremely catchy, and I enjoyed it for what it was. Wouldn't mind seeing more from this remake.

Simple as that, This is monster high and this is a reboot. Every franchise changes drastically or minor, the fact still stands, everything HAS to change. @@visxnyah6152 I think it sends an excatly message to the new generation! I was 14 in 2015 so I was still technically a child but that around the time me childhood ended too. I got hit with dose of "the real world" around that time. But so Monster High brings back good memories of simpler times. I used to watch it was my ex best friend and I kind of miss that and her so the or brought back good memories and honestly I was happy to see the my joy and memories can be past down to the new generation and with the Monster High. It's great to allow children to make new memories with all these reboots and spin offs coming out. It also connects each generation in a way and we can all relate through tv, media, and movies. There's powerful about feeling connected to old generation and new ones alike. It's a great thought!

Yah I think they wanted to make her more like the the original monster she’s based off of the creature from the black lagoon was set in South America. I consider this gen a different dimension so the characters being familiar but different doesn’t bother me, there still making dolls in the g1 sculpt and g3 lagoona looks awesome in my opinion.

Like yeah she was a little rude in the original, but she wasn't some heartless b*tch who was only meant to act as an antagonist! She was just vain, so seeing everyone react really uncomfortable by her presence or simply ignore her is rather depressing.
