G'day knackers.... Just like u i too was bought up on them too.. I tend to use home made drum nets or opera house nets myself.. My idea of a good feed is to fill a bath tub full of 9" yabbies an let them soak for a few days changen the water offten, another trick while doing that is to feed the yabbies Garlic an they really taste so much better .. My kids an i often camp out on our farm fishing an ferreting rabbits or even catching ferryl pigs.. Keep in touch via E-mail if u like..
Ha you have the same bag as my young blokes school bag Robbie , On a separate note a bit of boiling water and some either garlic butter and or 1000 island dressing and you've got one mighty fine feed my good friend ,geez I mis the days of traveling in the bush ,yabbys were a staple feed between me and my mates when I was a younger lad ,it's just a shame the creeks are polluted to the hilt over my way ,I've seen some good size creek bugs that could do with some cooking down my way . Take care my friend
it's 3am in adelaide and i can't sleep and just stumbled onto this video and stayed for the whole thing and actually subbed to your channel, keep up the good work mate you're a bloody champion!
Check out this young guy! Good throwback video to watch. Always consistent in making sure to return undersized or females with eggs to the water to ensure the next generation of yabbies. Love it!
Wow Robbie these videos are really awesome I've been watching you for ages now and your epic content never disappoints, I really like the videos where you go out and catch carp, yabbys, yellas, and mainly Murray cod. Your channel is growing so fast and soon you'll be making a fortune off of it. Remember Robbie don't let success change who you are, keep up the spectacular videos mate!
Great video mate, never tried nets but thinking about giving it a try. I usually just dangle a bit of meat on a string in the local billabongs and creeks, good for a couple here and there.
Hi Robbie..been following your vids for a while now always entertaining always informative keep em rollin' I'm in Scotland we got crayfish too gonna have a go at your method lot more fun than trapping ! all the very best ... John
You should try putting the float as close to the join thst holds the rings as possible, thst way the rope won't be sitting on the net and risk flicking the yabbies out or scaring then off the net when I moves.
Awsome tips and tricks m8, My young fella said hes ticked pink watching you yabbying, and is now out after them hard, He cant wait for your next clip m8 Cheers from gympie qld
+Tom Conallin Thanks for the tip mate. Yeah they certainly make it ewasy, but not as much fun. Great for when you need yabbies for a reason but don't have time to catch them, just drop a few opera house nets in and come back the next day. They are subject to some stringent rules though mate for sure.
1. Have yabbies to cook, dead or alive 2. Boil a pot (size depending on how many yabbies you have 3. Add a lot of salt, also vinegar if you want (it tastes nicer) 4. Put the yabbies in the boiling pot, put the lid on and leave to cook for around 7 minutes, if you have a lot more and it's crowded in the pot cook for longer 5. Drain the water from pot and you have freshly cooked yabbies!
Great video mate :) you seem like a solid bloke. Do you know what type of conditions yabbies have to be in to be edible? I live right next to a public lake, Wynn Vale dam. I know there's yabbies in there i've caught a heap of em, but I don't know if its edible because its also protected by the council. And who knows what they put in there, is it safe to say I should find another spot for eating yabbies?
Thanks heaps mate. In all honesty I do not fully know the answer to your question. I would imagine they would be OK but I advise that you ask somebody else. I eat them out of putrid dirty farm dams. That dirty water is usually filthy to look at, but not so much polluted. Then you have clear water with a lot of pollutants in it such as chemical run off etc... Don't confuse dirty water with polluted water, they are two different things. I am sorry that I can not help you out more mate.
Tie a bit of meat to a stick via string Scoop a net as the pull the string in from behind Never fails in good condition But due to your lust for eating sized yabbys the dropnet would be more useful Great vids mate encourage you to make more
With that cold weather mate, takes a bit longer for them yabbys to get the scent and come out their holes. In the early season, give it a bit more time mate.
Lol that pregnant yabby just got thrown back in. By the way, is it fine to go yabbying in the winter? or is it not recommended because the sun is not hot enough? And do you know where in Victoria is a great place to go yabbying?
***** G'day mate, yabbying is really hard in winter. It is certainly allowed, there are no laws against it but the yabbies are usually buried in the mud and very hard to catch.
they like dog biscuits smell so put them in a little tub with a screw on lid and leave them for a little while it works great and u get heaps and put some holes in the tub
Drop net for yabbies is a totally dumb idea - sure it have some success, but a cage with dual entry and no escape is a way better method - No tangling, and the crays will stay in so you can leave the cage over night (they often feed during early morning and dark times as well, going into a sleep mode during the day) - so leave the traps over night would not hurt a bit
mini59 me Also totally illegal in my area as we have platypus and water rats that can hey caught in drum nets. Amphibians that will drown if trapped under water.
+Criticism4.0 G'day mate, I really could not tell you sorry, I have never fished there. I have only ever driver over it. I would imagine that there would be yabbies in it in the freshwater section though, I would be very surprised if there wasnt.
+jem Ogn G'day mate, I sure do use them for fishing. Most species in my area will happily take them, but I use them more for redfin than anything else.
Any tips on cooking redfin? They've got a bad rep. Also, what's the best time of day for catching yabbies? I'm planning on kayaking the whole Murray in a few months, so trying to find out as much as I can about what I can catch and eat :)
G'day mate, I like to fillet and breadcrumb redfin, and then fry them in margarine or butter. As for yabbies, like all creatures night time seems to be a bit better, however you can catch them all day.
Thanks for the reply, I'm not much of a fisherman, so any advice helps. (If you see a 6'5" starving man in a yellow Hobie floating down the Murray this summer, it'll be me:)
Im from queensland and never saw a yabbie before comig to sa. Thought whats the difference between a marron and a yabbie? Also Are you single? Your hot and funny I learnt something new really interesting

Haha thanks heaps mate. I'm hanging out for the weather to warm up so I can make more yabbying videos. Thanks for watching.

+kevin russo Thanks heaps mate.
Awesome video! You have such a great personality. Love it!
Good video and love that u threw back the pregnant one. 💕

it's 3am in adelaide and i can't sleep and just stumbled onto this video and stayed for the whole thing and actually subbed to your channel, keep up the good work mate you're a bloody champion!
Sam Matthews Hi Sam thank you so much my friend. I struggle to sleep some nights too. I hope you're catching heaps mate.
Check out this young guy! Good throwback video to watch. Always consistent in making sure to return undersized or females with eggs to the water to ensure the next generation of yabbies. Love it!

Hey Rob
Used this technique up in Tamworth (NSW). Funnily enough I used soap and it worked better than meat. Love your videos mate.
WOW soap thats awesome!! I have heard that it is quie effective, especially on freshwater shrimp. Thanks for your kind words mate.
You look like a young stud in this video Robbie 🤣
Great video mate, never tried nets but thinking about giving it a try. I usually just dangle a bit of meat on a string in the local billabongs and creeks, good for a couple here and there.
Hey Robbie. I use a painters pole to drop my nets out. Mine is 3.6 mts extended but only 2 mts folded. Can go longer if you have the room to carry!
hi mate, awesome videos, u did a really good job. awesome camera work and keep those videos comming
I like the dome pots because I leave mine in over night but the eels get in and rip my bait out or rip my mesh on the net
Im going to start catching yabbies from now on thanks for helping me out with how to catch them. 👍🏻👌🏻😀
Jacob Bieber Thanks Jacob. I hooe you can get into a few.
Robbie is a great guy and by the looks of it he knows what his doing
Hi Robbie..been following your vids for a while now always entertaining always informative keep em rollin' I'm in Scotland we got crayfish too gonna have a go at your method lot more fun than trapping ! all the very best ... John
G'day John, thanks heaps for your great comment mate. I come from a Scottish background myself. My great grandmother was born in Edinburgh. :)
Nice video. Your Crayfish/Yabbies put the ones we have in the USA to shame. Your Yabbies look like marine lobsters! Haha :-P
RoboTekno Yeah those are huge!
my mate and i caught 60 yabbies in half an hour at a small dam near my house. we used string and chicken and a net. great video by the way.
I'm not sure if it was the size of the yabbies you caught or the fact that you caught yabbies but this made me smile.
You should try putting the float as close to the join thst holds the rings as possible, thst way the rope won't be sitting on the net and risk flicking the yabbies out or scaring then off the net when I moves.
Really like these videos keep up the good work 👍🏼😇
Flynn Thomasson Hey mate thanks heaps champ.
Keep it up mate keen to see some new videos !
Yabbying looks like so much fun! =D
You legend Robbie keep doing what you do HUGE FAN!
Yabbies are mostly nocturnal so you should put them in befor night then check them in the morning. Thats how i catch them and it works great
Thanks mate good vids. You could bring a metal detector with you and detect wild you wait for your Yabbies you go to good shots. Cheers.
G'day mate thanks for watching. Believe it or not I actually do that from time to time but dont film the metal detecting part. Perhaps I should?
You should go out yabbying again but I would put an opera house or something like that but I love your work you should go yabbying again :-)
... and your yabbies will love ya "forever"... lol.
Good vid man
thomas hahaha Thanks mate.

Hey robbie try using some liver and a Oprah house net but they have some rules
+Tom Conallin Thanks for the tip mate. Yeah they certainly make it ewasy, but not as much fun. Great yabby video Robbie! I enjoyed that!
Thanks heaps Mary.
Aha your a champion Robbie love the vids !!!!!!!!!!
Thanks mate/ :) :)
HAI! how do you cook / prepare a Yabby??
1. Have yabbies to cook, dead or alive
2. Boil a pot (size depending on how many yabbies you have
3. Add a lot of salt, also vinegar if you want (it tastes nicer)
4. Put the yabbies in the boiling pot, put the lid on and leave to cook for around 7 minutes, if you have a lot more and it's crowded in the pot cook for longer
5. Drain the water from pot and you have freshly cooked yabbies!
And it's easier to watch a video on how to eat a yabbie (get to the meat.)
great catch mate I subbed like the channel
Great video mate

+robbiefishing try using opera house traps I would catch 30 in 1 trap
+Gulic Ivana they're illegal in some Australian states, the trap native water animals.
Great video!
Thanks champ. :)
