    An old Aboriginal bloke showed me how he caught the shrimp in the Edwards river. He had a metal 20 litre drum with small holes poked in the bottom and sides. He tied a piece of velvet soap inside and loosely filled the drum with gum leaves. Not sure how good the soap would be for the water but it worked fantastically.

      For sure the soap n tin works, we used a few 4 litre olive oil tins with the soap in a bit of stocking wired too the back of the tin. Trick was offset the soap too the pull strings so the shrimp couldn’t back out as it got pulled out. Forgot the important bit, plenty of holes in the bottom of the tin to drain fast on extraction.

    Oh hail the mighty Trangia!!! Got my one in 1984 and it still kicks butt! One of my most memorable trangia moments was making a batch of coffee for some school friends to warm up in a windy blizzard at the Snowiest. (Hint, warm up the metho in the burner in your pocket). We sat inside the car while the water boiled outside. Still remember seeing the snow land on the top suddenly melt n evaporate.
    Your one is looking a whole lot better than mine in condition.

    to me, it looked very much like the shrimp/prawn had just finished molting their shells and this reflects the very light colour after cooking. Even tho youre catching in the day time, the moon phase is super important for numbers and hence you get more that are ready to molt rather than just molted. 3 or 4 days before and after the new moon is best.

    • @robbiefishing

      @Smickster01 5 років тому +1

      @@robbiefishing no probs, up in NSW in the Myall lakes, there are awesome fresh/brackish water prawns and although we can get em anytime of the month, its always better for quantity and quality if you use the moon phase as a guide. the meat is much sweeter if theyre ready to molt, and very tasteless for soft shelled newly molted ones. PS. dont sit around replying to my comment, lol, get out there and make some more vids. im addicted mate. Good stuff

    Fresh shrimp from the fast waters of the narrows In Mathoura/Barmah ( cross border scenario). THEY ARE HUGE AND DELICIOUS! Besides the small carp infestation last December in the Murray, the shrimp and yabbies thrived. I reckon chilli and garlic shrimp will rival any dish. 😃👌🇦🇺👊

    Colder the water the better, for healthy shrimp. I don't consume fresh water shrimp, but know of people who do. They can cause the "runs"if not eaten quickly. Southern shrimp, do not taste like northern cherabin, dunno why. Gippsland lakes are a better safer option, to eat prawns.

    I am guessing that spices make the smaller ones taste better because they have a more bland taste when small. But the bigger yabbies' and shrimp, and crawfish here is the US will have a stronger, more robust flavor as they grow bigger. Just guessing. Comparing these little shelled boogers to small calves and full grown cattle. Makes sense to me...

    instead of using the bait your using, try guts of fish or look up good baits for shrimp, ive watched alot of shrimp vids and ive never seen anyone use the bait your using, idk the laws over there but if they allow it try different baits and see what yields a better catch

    Get the traps into the weeds that's where the shrimp shelter the open spaces are dangerous for small good tasting creatures
