Waters is very naïve regarding negotiating with Putin. Russia and Ukraine BOTH joined a petition to join NATO. Putin has made it his goal to reconstruct the old USSR. But China is no bastion of ethical governance by any measure. Their treatment of ethnic minorities, what they've done in Tibet, the crack down on the freedoms promised to Hong Kong, and the constant refusal to acknowledge Taiwan's independence after 70 years of autonomy.

Sadly he isn't speaking the truth. He isn't stupid, it sounds right what he says when you hear it and don't know everything about the situations, but he is missing key elements of the stories he is telling, and lacking principles. First of all he says that Joe Biden is a war criminal because he is sending Aid to Ukraine. First of all it's the obligation of the US to do so as a NATO member, but more importantly, Waters says that the US should rather encourage Zelensky to negotiate instead of sending aid. The problem is that Putin is a "dictator", or at the very least an autocrat that sees the "west" as his archenemys, and he is an imperialist. He won't negotiate. He wants economic harm to the "west", and butcher the people he hates. So if we go after Waters logic we would just give Putin a green light to executing his imperialist plans, destroying democracies and butchering the people he hates. So Biden is in no means a war criminal. That much about Ukraine. He also says that the US is trying to expand towards Russia, but in reality NATO is just welcoming a sovereign free state that is eligible to join into the organization, that has every right to do so. About Taiwan he says that it is a part of "China", and aigan says the US is trying to expand. In reality the US is just protecting a democratic state from getting attacked by "dictators". Also, Taiwan (ROC) is in fact not a part of China (PRC). The ROC is in fact sovereign, the PRC holds no power over it. However they want to invade it because they are also imperialists trying to conquer the world, and because they want to own the economy, and also want its geographical location wich is strategically important. Taiwan (the ROC) is simply just not recognized by most states or the corrupt UN, because China threatens wich economic sanctions wich is part of their Propaganda, so all of these countries are afraid of doing so, since they hold strong economic ties with China. That is exactly the mistake Waters does with this argumenation of "the whole world recognizes Taiwan as China", wich they in reality don't, just on paper because of Chinas threats. Not trying to say that the United States are the good guys that are only trying to protect humans and democracy (wich they aren't), there are other reasons too, but that doesn't mean it's not the right thing for morals. He also arguments by saying "who have the chinese invaded", but that's just because China never had enough power or other problems. Either way, that doesn't change the fact that China is literally preparing the country for war on a massive scale, and they are gonna go into war, at the very least if you don't stop them. During WWi and WW2, the US was an isolationist country. We were dragged into both wars kicking and screaming. And when we stepped up to the plate, the world thanked us. Granted the US has made some pretty big blunders on the international stage over the years, and we deserve to be reminded of it, but we also (used to be ) the world leader in humanitarian efforts.

Someone cited a UN resolution in 1971 to show me UN recognized PRC as China and replaced ROC’s membership. Well, it’s funny. I would've enjoyed this interview more had Michael not laughed as much especially when Roger was getting serious. Also, Roger is right. We ALL should read more but we should all be careful WHAT we read because not all writings are completely truthful and honest when it comes to politics. Objectivity can be hard to find.

Im really happy that CNN aired this show as its a good example of 2 people with different opinions having a conversation, but still respecting each other. Nowadays people are brainwashed of thinking that every healthy conversation can only be one sided and if they disagree they just call the person toxic or apply some insulting label and ignore other persons arguments. The more people realise how normal, healthy conversation looks like the less wars will happen as less people will just take one side and hide inside their groups opinion.

Sadly he isn't speaking the truth. He isn't stupid, it sounds right what he says when you hear it and don't know everything about the situations, but he is missing key elements of the stories he is telling, and lacking principles. First of all he says that Joe Biden is a war criminal because he is sending Aid to Ukraine. First of all it's the obligation of the US to do so as a NATO member, but more importantly, Waters says that the US should rather encourage Zelensky to negotiate instead of sending aid. He wants economic harm to the "west", and butcher the people he hates. So if we go after Waters logic we would just give Putin a green light to executing his imperialist plans, destroying democracies and butchering the people he hates. So Biden is in no means a war criminal. That much about Ukraine. He also says that the US is trying to expand towards Russia, but in reality NATO is just welcoming a sovereign free state that is eligible to join into the organization, that has every right to do so. About Taiwan he says that it is a part of "China", and aigan says the US is trying to expand. In reality the US is just protecting a democratic state from getting attacked by "dictators". Also, Taiwan (ROC) is in fact not a part of China (PRC). The ROC is in fact sovereign, the PRC holds no power over it. However they want to invade it because they are also imperialists trying to conquer the world, and because they want to own the economy, and also want its geographical location wich is strategically important. Taiwan (the ROC) is simply just not recognized by most states or the corrupt UN, because China threatens wich economic sanctions wich is part of their Propaganda, so all of these countries are afraid of doing so, since they hold strong economic ties with China. That is exactly the mistake Waters does with this argumenation of "the whole world recognizes Taiwan as China", wich they in reality don't, just on paper because of Chinas threats. So aigan Waters argumentation is flawed. Not trying to say that the United States are the good guys that are only trying to protect humans and democracy (wich they aren't), there are other reasons too, but that doesn't mean it's not the right thing for morals. He also arguments by saying "who have the chinese invaded", but that's just because China never had enough power or other problems. Funny how our Media conveniently forgets the course of such important events.
Roger is also correct when he implies that we played a key role in started the war. For instance, U.S. Senator John McCain and CIA Director John Brennan were both in Kiev promising support to the opposition if they rose up to throw down Ukraine's government. After that, Victoria Nuland's phone call revealed that the U.S. hand picked Ukraine's new leaders. So regime change on Russia's border in a country including ethnic Russians, great idea. That would be like Russia regime changing Canada.
I agree with a lot of what Roger is saying, but there's a lot of stuff he's glossing over here. In the 1930's Stalin forced starvation policies lead to the death of millions of Ukrainians. On another one of your points, Russia is equally at fault for installing a puppet leader in Ukraine. Remember Viktor Yanukovych? I also don't agree with his position on Julian Assange, which was not discussed in this interview, but I do agree with his position on the Palestinian situation.
During WWi and WW2, the US was an isolationist country. We were dragged into both wars kicking and screaming. And when we stepped up to the plate, the world thanked us. Granted the US has made some pretty big blunders on the international stage over the years, and we deserve to be reminded of it, but we also (used to be ) the world leader in humanitarian efforts.

Roger has read his history. No question. They presented sometimes hotly opposed viewpoints. Then they shook hands and smiled at each other. The smiles looked genuine and respectful. Great message to us all.

I would've enjoyed this interview more had Michael not laughed as much especially when Roger was getting serious. Also, Roger is right. We ALL should read more but we should all be careful WHAT we read because not all writings are completely truthful and honest when it comes to politics. Objectivity can be hard to find.

Im really happy that CNN aired this show as its a good example of 2 people with different opinions having a conversation, but still respecting each other. Nowadays people are brainwashed of thinking that every healthy conversation can only be one sided and if they disagree they just call the person toxic or apply some insulting label and ignore other persons arguments. The more people realise how normal, healthy conversation looks like the less wars will happen as less people will just take one side and hide inside their groups opinion.
