I picked up the 5800X3D today at MicroCenter for $280 to replace my aging Ryzen 5 3600. Can't wait to install it!
Would love to know the uplift.
You will love it!
did the same with the 3700x. big fps boost
i got that this summer, right around when i got a 6950 for 600
@@jemtec1 I got about a 30fps boost in COD MW3, I didn't check the frame rates in Microsoft Flight Simulator before and after but it has made suck a difference. it's so smooth now compared to before.
Have a great weekend Paul and Joe 😊
Great Probing Paul. I'm really looking forward to you opening the 2500. Just that little teaser made it look super sweet.
Funny, I am building an ITX system too, and came to the same conclusion of opting between those two A620 motherboards. I was about to go for the AsRock one because of the two M.2 slots, but then I noticed that it doesn't have a DP port. Since I'm building it to be a "console + PC" system to place by my 4K TV, I prefered to have a DP and HDMI port, than 2 M.2s
I notice that too, I will be commenting on that in the video 😁
Yeah I am annoyed by the shortage of HDMIs
Thanks Paul, looking forward to the mini ITX build.
7800x3d+mobo+32gb ram for 450 at microcenter
@@futuza that was in response to best bang for the buck CPU. ive got a 3080 from previous build going in that setup
screamin' deal for people within Micro Center range 👍
You muricans are slam dunking us with those deals 😭
Sounds like only the elites can buy
the cpu alone is 380€ in Europe today
That would be a really nice desk mat. Not matching for my setup, but really cool none the less.
YES! I have 3 Inwin ChopinMAX cases. Glad to see you're going to build in one. Love the case.
That mouse pad is amazing with that pattern
Probing Paul is back, been a while. Great stuff
I love probings! Most Excellent as always.
Makes these mats happen right meow!
I look forward to the mini ITX build. Thanks!
I have a feeling that Mini-ITX builds will become a lot more popular this year, considering the unprecedented APU performance of the 8700G.
That "Inwin" case looks cool and interesting. Looking forward to the build video.
My friend got a 100$ 12400F and 100$ B660M Riptide with a 30$ thermalright cooler, OCed it to 5Ghz, going with his 4080S no bottleneck
can't beat that value
That's a really lucky buy!
12400f baller cpu,
Also have an i5 12400 with a GTX 4070. It's great.
I scooped up a Second hand AMAZON RETURN - ROG STRIX B650-A Gaming Wifi for only £75 as it had some bent pins which i took a a crack at and got it working all lovely.
Saved me at least £150 to £200 on that type of Motherboard as they usualy sell for upwards of £300
Looking forwars to the A620 build. I am considering that board for my next pc.
Paul I use that 8700G, case and cooler but a different A620 mobo. Works as a 2nd pc in a different room. Good little compact system to light game or stream off my NAS
That XMP question was a great one, that's happened to me a bunch and I've always thought little of it, just set it back to XMP and moved on. After seeing that question, checked my speed and it's back to 2400. Now I'm lookin at this silly little wafer wondering if it's got any juice left.
My PC was doing the same thing. I moved my two sticks of RAM over to the next slots and never had another problem with it again. I have a B550 motherboard from ASUS with the R7-5700X from AMD.
The new desskmat design is cool!
I just did a build with that AsRock board. 7600x, 32gb 6000 and a 3080. Turned out great and it performs amazingly.
Great video Paul! Just wondering where you got your INWIN Chopin case? I have been looking for one for over a year.
Desk mat is an overdue merch product.
InWin Chopin Max is an amazing case. I just completed a nearly identical build for my mom only with a 5600G.
There,s nothing I love more than probing Paul.
Interested to see the performance on that build for your sister. I might have use for something like that.
Looking forward to the GRE review....

Also, any time you flash bios it will reset any settings back to default. So any settings you had before will be lost. It may be worth flipping through the bios (perhaps taking a video on your phone) before flashing so you have something to refer back to.
After noticing that a few months ago, I made sure to start saving the BIOS profile to the same USB drive that I keep the latest BIOS file stored on.
Commonly happens to Gigabyte motherboards that have dual BIOS but don't come with a physical switch to manually select whether to load from BIOS 1 or 2 . So it randomly selects the alternative BIOS out of the blue.
I'm building a PC for my mom and I suspect she's got the same needs as your sister. So I'd absolutely love to see a more detailed video about this build.
Yay @deathVIAavatar for the desk mat idea, that is DOPE, putting that on the wish list for later
How's the DIY home surveillance system holding up? Last major update was back before covid. Any new hurdles you had to overcome or issues using commodity hardware for 24/7 operation? Love the home tech videos and here's to a good 20204 🍻
Used markets nice i just upgraded my rtx 2060 to a rtx3080 for 400 bucks. obviously ot has its issues of used market but this seller had great reviews and was educated in pc hardware
Hello Paul! Hope you're well! Glad to see Joe's PC was a relatively simple fix.
I am running a Ryzen 9 3900x, 32GB 4000 DDR4, 1TB Evo 980 M.2, an RX 6600, and its all in an ITX build. I understand my GPU is likely causing bottleneck, but I was actually curious about monitors. This might be an obvious answer but would upgrading from a 24" 1080p 75Hz monitor to a 1440p or 4k 144Hz or greater monitor harm performance or is the monitor not really as related to performance as I'm lead to believe? Thanks again!
For the guy with the xmp issues. I am running an x570 and had the same issue. I had to manually set it to 3000mhz if I went above that it would randomly reset to the default speed. Recently did a bios update and tried running it at 3600mhz again and now it stays at 3600 and does NOT reset to default. Try udating your bios and see what happens. If it still occurs try manually setting it to 3200mhz if not try 3000mhz. Bios update should fix it.
That makes sense. RAM stability is one the most common reasons they update the BIOS, especially when a platform is new and/or a new version of DDR comes out.
Really looking forward to the 8700g SFF build.
I actually built a similar PC setup for my mum last month, using the same case. However, hers is built on the AM4 platform with the Ryzen 4600G. And I'm planning to upgrade to AM5 myself, using this very same Asrock ITX motherboard, since it has everything I need, including a decent VRM. It'll make a great pair with the Ryzen 7600 that I managed to snag on sale.
Paul and Joe sent a video for the weekend to watch! :D
thank you paul. i just bought a new mouse pad from you. the purple one this time.
Always a pleasure guys! *^^*
What are your thoughts on those CPU contact frames?
hey Paul do you ship those Pint glasses to Australia? I want to buy myself one or2 for my bday that is in april!
I was gonna get that $290 mobo/cpu combo from newegg to upgrade my son's 10th gen i3 build but was able to snag an i9 10900kf from ebay for $135. I also got got an Asus AP201 case for him for $50 on Facebook Marketplace. About to start the build as I'm watching this, wish me luck.
A yurt is a nice idea paul😊
Paul have you tried Hell Divers 2 yet?
Ay paulie should I water cool my 7900xtx? Also what do you think about gpu aio solutions?
Windows update just broke stability on my 3400MHz OC on B450 w/ 5600X. I think I'll wait for an affordable used 5800X3D.
I picked up the 5600X3D from MC as it’s only 20 min drive from me after watching Hardware Unboxed comparison video of the 3 AM4 X3D skus: For a strictly gaming focused build I got the impression that since I have access to an MC the 5600X3D was the best option of the three for overhauling a 6 year old am4 mini itx build. I figured since I had the opportunity why spend 50 dollars more for a lower clocked part with two extra cores that likely won’t do very much. Would be like flushing money down the drain.
Video suggestion: explain in great detail how to set up fan curves for cpus and if they are different for 65/105/125W cpus.
i never thought i would utter these words in my life, but, "i love probing paul"... :p glhf, and, as always, ty for your hard work and dedication!!! glhf fam!
Does the I/O shield come standard on the mother boards now? No more struggling to install nowadays?
I'd like to know how this compares to a 780m mini pc, pricewise. Looking forward to the build!
should we buy budget pc with amd 7600 right now or wait for amd 9000 series. ?
I eagerly await your 7900GRE review
What does it take for you to return or rma a component. Ive just spent a month without a gpu due to coilwhine and a fan that scraped. 1 world problems perhaps, but when I pay for a 4070 I prefer it not grinding on my nerves every time I game on it.
Hey Paul, amazing video as usual.
I built my first pc following your guide about 3 years ago with a ryzen 3 3100 cpu and rtx 2060. I'm regularly getting BSOD, and TIL it might be because of my cpu? Or might be because I'm using unlicensed windows?
I was anyway thinking of upgrading to 5600 (or the 5700x3d, provided it's available in my country) and this video is exactly what i was waiting for to score the best bang for a buck cpu. Would love your thoughts on this.
I had the same problem with a 2060 in an older system I had. I installed and ran DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and reinstalled the drivers and it fixed the problem.
Regarding the CPU suggestion, I had a 3600 in a motherboard with a VRM that runs hot enough I don't trust it with a 105 watt TDP processor. So I upgraded to the standard 5700X. I paid $159 new and am satisfied with the performance increase.
Paul, please compare the stock APU fan vs that low profile fan on your sisters build. i would love to learn the results.
Hi Paul, would 5700x bottleneck 4070 Super @ 1080P, no plan to upgrade to 1440p
Is it an AMD 7900 GRE in the box?
Is it? Is it?
Chopin for the inWIN!
Paul looking for advice on best CPU GPU combo for resource intensive strategy games like DCS world and Gal Civ 4 among others please help.
I always thought it was “no neck” rim, thanks for clarifying
Does anyone know what keyboard Paul is using in his videos? I'm looking for a white mechanical keyboard for my home office and I like the look of the one Paul has
For intel 13900K what's your favourite mobo?
We all love it when Paul gets probed 😄😎
In an LTT AMD tech upgrade video it was mentioned they could use the motherboard HDMI port without any issues since both the dedicated and integrated GPU is RDNA 2 (or above) so they can pass through each other without any performance issues.
The only thing I can find is AMD advantage for laptops but nothing about desktop being able to use them like that.
I dunno if you have tested that or something.
I'd like to throw in my two cents on the memory speed/CMOS resets. For the longest time I had issues with my X570 + 3900X system. It would never crash however upon every single restart BIOS would be reset. No matter what I did including buying new CMOS batteries would fix this. Took me around 2 years to finally discover the problem. I had an old ADATA 120GB SSD from my first ever build in 2012. The moment I replaced that old SSD all BIOS reset issues vanished. I feel like the old SSD was somehow draining power from the mobo like you do with a CMOS reset. I've since upgraded to a 5800X3D along with additional SSDs now and still using that original mobo. No more reset problems. Can leave it off for a week and all settings stick.
interesting, never that before, thanks
Best pre build pc for a budget between 1300 to 1800 ? For gaming purposes. Please help
Hi Paul! I've wanted a beer set from your store for a long time now but even on sale at $16, it ends up at $44 with shipping (to France) 😬 And that's not including taxes! Will/Do you have another shipping location? Also, I wouldn't mind waiting more than a month for it to arrive...
Has anyone ever tried using a peltier TE cooler for a CPU cooler? I saw a video of some guy making a fridge out of them, and it seemed to work well and pretty efficiently.
If you really want to be cheap, a 5825u mini pc is $250 and comes with a case, psu, 512gb nvme ssd, and 16gb of ram. One empty ram slot, one empty nvme slot. An egpu would be easy to add with an oculink kit. Though I would flash my own iso of windows/linux.
What do you think about running a UPS for a PC where the UPS has a lower wattage than the PC PSU does? I understand the UPS wouldn't work if the PC were at a high load but it would still be useful during lower power productivity. Would it potentially damage the PC, or the UPS? Thanks for the probing!
Is the R9-5900X a better CPU than the newer 5800X3D? I'm wondering whether it's worth trying to stretch more life out of the AM4 board I have. In the main I play X-Plane-12 and FS 2020 at 3440x1440.. I have 64G of RAM and an 3090t TI...
The 5700X3D did a great job of pushing down the retailer scalping prices.
You can't go wrong with a yurt, man.
Yurts are the wave of the future.
Yurt, yurt, yurt.
the IS-47-XT is a great cooler for its height, unfortunately it's beaten by the AXP90's Copper variant, but the mounting on the AXP is incredibly inconsistent. the ease of use for the 47xt is worth it.
I would buy that desk pad
always Paul always
Depends on the GPU. If INTEL GPU you need to pair it with INTEL CPU.
Depend with which gpu
For a budget build, a 12600k, Asrock Z690 Extreme, and 32gb ddr4 3200 is a banging deal, right now, at around $360.
My bet for the mystery GPU is the US launch of the 7900GRE! Time will tell if that's correct, since the only other planned GPU releases this year are the 5090 in Q4 and the 8800XT around summer time.
Do you think RTX 3070's 8 GB of memory very limiting for 2024-2026?
I am planning to keep the GPU for atleast 2 more years and finally upgrading to a theoretical 5070/5070 Super. I play mostly single player story based games at 1440P 60FPS sometimes using Upscaling tech. Do you think 2 more years will be enough for it?
I'd love to see a version of this video but for GPUs. There are so many out there right now and it gets so confusing which ones are worth the price tag. I just want to know what GPU to buy next that won't break the bank (
After watching for the ram issue, specifically for Amd side, the fclk might not be set in the proper ratio. He does got an Amd platform.
For am5 upgrade i went with msi pro b650m-p board for around 130 euros, has two m.2 slots that are 4.0 that's fast enough for pc imo. Upgrading from 10400f to 7800x3d should be decent jump in performance i guess...
To be honest I was waiting for this video, i mean I am currently using a 5600x, heavy excel spreadsheets and multiple browser user + 10 apps give or take apps in background
I upgraded from a 5600x to a 5800x3d using my same b550 mobo ram and air cooler. I didn't notice snappier windows use but my 1% lows in gaming are wayyyyy smoother. I think spreadsheets and those tasks might benefit from ram capacity a bit more than cpu
I agree with @cooleyzz, your limitation seems to be more of a RAM issue if you're experiencing a lot of slow-downs with Excel, multiple apps and web browsing. Can you add more memory?
@@paulshardware I think mauve has the most RAM.
Thanks for the suggestions ram are ripjaw 16gb x2, 3200mhz
Paul I have 2 questions. First I am running a 2070 Super that is starting to artifact. What is a good bang for the buck upgrade? I run 1080p most of the time but I want to target 1440p. I am willing to buy used. 2nd. I am also running a 5800X. Is it worth upgrading to an X3d cpu or should I just upgrade to a 7000 Series?
I have a 8000 series intel....tempted to get a am4 and a x3d proceesor as would be a massive upgrade on what i have plus could use my existing ddr4 memory
do u have an i7-8700K? thats not too bad, it similar to a 3600 chip rite now
@@MrSamadolfo 8086K which I think is the same just a bit more overclocked in single core
@@EastyyBlogspot 🙂 cool, yes that a 6/12 chip, runs just like a 3600, that build will always be worth a couple bucks
Here's something I 've been thinking lately. I have a 9900k with a Z370 board, 64GB of memory and a 6600XT. Unlike most of your audience, I am only playing strategy games like CIV 5 and Age of Empires, so I really don't need a more powerful GPU and if anythingthe6600XT is more GPU than I need. However, I am thinking of upgrading my CPU and memory when the new Intel gen arrives, since those components do make a difference in my work.
That raises the question of what to do with the parts I ll replace, my 9900k CPU, my board and the DDR4 memory.
Would it better to sell each component separately, as a combo, or should i get a used case and a GPU and sell them as a complete gaming system( I already have a spare PSU) ?
If I do sell them as a computer, my problem is that my use case is different than most people's so OTOH, it seems to me that the 64GB of memory is overkill for most people while the 6600XT is probably less than what people would want to pair with a 9900k. What would be a good used GPU to pair with the 9900k so that it's appealing to the average buyer?
My bios resets every time I shut off power to the PC. I've thought it might be the battery. I will check. Thanks for the confirmation hint.
7:00 Occam's Razor. Update your UEFI.BIOS and then do the steps listed for this section. Entirely possible MoBo had an update that supports memory better after days/weeks/months/years
@7:17 If your CMOS battery on the motherboard is dead, ALL settings go back to factory default, not just the XMP enablement gets eventually disabled. And more often than not, even the BIOS will complain about that (WARNING BIOS SETTINGS HAVE BEEN RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULT). And usually the boot is halt until you press a key to acknowledge this situation. So its pretty hard not to notice this thing, therefore very unlikely that this affects Richard.
Let's say i want to start streaming and want the best quality possible; would the 7800x3D be good enough for streaming? Or uploading high quality videos? I already know this cpu is better than intel in terms of gaming due to the proficiency in fps boost, which is amazing for just acquring 8 cores, but i really want to know before making a final decision.
The problem with AM5 is the RAM. it's freakin high right now. That was what stopped me from biting the bullet when AM5 came out.
Paul is my go to for Tech news, the Probing Paul's are great too. I like and watch Jays2Cents as well.
🙂 12100F new, on older computer stuff the i7-870 is 15 and Haswell i7-4770 is 30 and Skylake i7-6770 is 60, also just depends if u can get a really nice working motherboard for really cheap
Upgraded my 3600X to a 5800X3D during a flash sale. Cost me 260 bucks. Upgraded my 1070 Ti to a 6950XT for 740. Combined I got a pretty good PC for less than what Jensen wanted for a 4080.
Did you upgrade your monitor also to get any benefit in resolution or frame rate. Its not all about the internal components
@@matthewsalmon8194I'd assume with a 3600x and a 1070ti they already have a decent monitor. I used a 1440p 165hz monitor with my 3600/1070 PC and I'm still using it on a 5800x3d/6800xt build, and keeping it until oled moitors become more mainstream
@@matthewsalmon8194obviously. I already had a 1440p 165hz monitor. The money I saved I spent on a new 180hz 1440p monitor.
I run a 5600X on B450 MSI Max II (Tomahawk) with 32 GB DDR4. Curious - whats the difference between a 5600X and a 5600X 3D - I did I read that right? Did you recommend 64GB ram? Cos everyone laughed at me 18 months ago when I got 32GB.... I was told it was total over-kill for home based non production stuff. I just game and watch videos.
I bought an Ryzen 7 5800X3D Bundle from Micro Center for $320, the CPU was itemized at $148.
Nice!
I love that place! Been going to the one in Chicago since opening day in the 90's! I love the bargain bins, the service, and the prices. I got a lot of great stuff there.
Itemized at $148 in MC 5800X3D bundle good data. At intro $205 cost and 5800X at $163 so glad to see the at cost CPU Vermeer bundles coming down in price. 5800C3D is now at cost : price at $148 good full run tail end data. mb
See Erubiel Alanis comment down comment line 5800X3D at MC $280 is still $205 price at cost to AMD and how much more to MC what u got in the bundle for free is the mainboard. Great data between the 2 observations. mb
I would love to upgrade my PC, however going from AM4 to AM5, are many parts at once.
don't really see those kinda bundles in EU :(
If you have anything less than a 4080 or 7900xt and want to keep it stay on am4.
I recently got a 7800x3d to pair with a 6950xt and there is just so much headroom. I reckon I’ll be keeping it this way until 9000 or 10k series where I’ll only replace the gpu and keep the cpu.
