Porsche was whining about it. Like they do every time they start losing. Bmw met the rules and their car was legal, and Porsche wasn’t happy. And then magically a couple years later the rules changed so that they had to make more street legal versions of the cars than bmw could afford to make. I think Porsche probably had an hand in that.
Narrator forgot to mention how every Porsche is a homologation special. They are manufactured for official tracks but sold to civilians afterwards.
This was their one and only instance of whining, BMW put an engine in the race car before the road car was made, which is the opposite of what Porsche did

The dauer 962 went very great, the 97 GT1 wasn't much great on le mans, and the 98 GT1 did great just because mercedes didn't build a car that can last 24 hour. The 959 could have been the one but group B ended too soon
well of course if your competition was not following the rules properly and winning because of it you'd start whining. not that it matters now. porsche is still the king.

I strongly remembered this 2001 BMW M3 GTR in Gran Turismo 4. The livery is so good.
to put into reference how good the V8 M3 GTR was, it was setting lap times closer to the Corvettes in the GTS category above it than the Porsches in the GT category.
And the mysterious driver got his hands on the Lemans retired GTR and became the most wanted racer in Rockport. This all connects too perfectly.

Actually M3 GTR was built to have P60B40 4.0L 32-Valve DOHC Valvetronic V8 and in LM version it had 550hp, but in road legal it was detuned to 450HP, rumors say they produced 15 road legal cars (but we know about existence of 1 Road Legal and 1 ALMS Variant both sitting in museum, and 2nd exemplaries of said cars are sitting inside secret garage right next to M3 E46 Touring, The "Goldfisch" and M8 E31). Guys from Porsche were such crybabies they instantly ran to FIA to tell them that there were 15 M3 GTR Road Legal exemplaries instead instead of 50 written in rules, then FIA banned M3 GTR
The irl lore is that Porsche said "You (BMW) don't have a car to even compete with us (Porsche)", so they made the M3 with the sole purpose of humiliating Porsche.

They made 10, following the rules of LeMon at the time. And porsche went to the board and had the chassis outlawed. Which is why the e90/93/92 ALL had the v8. It’s the most hard to find story of racing I know of. Porsche bribed the board. I believe bmw sued them so no other car/chassis could be outlawed if it’s brought into compliance.
