The sunny San Marino Grand Prix was the third stage of the 1994 championship. Later it would be called the "black weekend". The most tragic moment in the world of racing.
After the terrible incident involving Rubens Barichello, it was already a terrible start to the weekend, and the next day the Formula 1 world was stunned by the tragic death of Roland Ratzenberger, and only a day later Ayrton Senna died during a race.
The 1994 San Marino Grand Prix is a story of crashes that changed Formula 1 forever...

I can't express my feelings everytime I see a video that tells about Erik Comas tried to save Senna after Comas' crash two years earlier. That man has such a huge respect
I agree. I really wanted to talk about this moment. And especially to translate his interview with a commentary on this situation
That's why Schumacher and Hamilton will never be number 1.
But some said Michael Schumacher the best . But for me Senna the best
@@vhelsubramaniam4839even Michael said senna was the best and they didn’t even get along
That's because Senna was a true sportsman and gentleman of the sport,he was the embodiment of F1 racing as it was meant to be.
The only time I've ever been truly shaken by the death of a person I had never met.
Agree
That's how I was when Earnhardt died.
I cant explain better! true words!
Simoncelli's died also for me.
That's how I felt too.
Imagine witnessing your friend's death and someone telling you it's your turn in 24 hours
So in other words, the 🤌 bastards wanted him dead for getting in their way.

At Christmas this past year, my ten year old son gave me a picture of Ayrton Senna as a gift. Upon opening it, I felt the emotions of that day. No gift has ever hit me so hard. Senna was my idol.
I have a picture of him right in front my bed. Everyday I wake up, look to him... And fell invicible for a moment.

are you brazillian? Im brazillian but born in 1993, I did not live all this thus i dont have the same emotion, but people love him.
@@luc4sko No. I am from the US. But he was such an inspiration to me. I wanted to be a race car driver but I came a from a family with not a lot of money. So it wasn’t meant to be. I’ve never had another racing driver effect my life the way he did.
I Miss Schumacher not being around the F1 paddock. We deserved to have Senna and Schumacher battling for years to come.
They will be racing again soon, in great company. it will be the greatest race ever.
& Roland, plus the other greats before & after.
10:05 "FOR FINANCIAL PURPOSES"... pretty much sums up this world
Fuck this world

Worse...
they should never have raced....
ROLAND DIED ON THE TRACK
The track should have closed
Ayrton felt incredibly sad
Since Ayrton died, the track is now the opposite direction...
so Tamborella Corner is different angles, which changes the speed of the car and how the car goes into the corner....
He was an amazing athlete, and helped many out financially
It’s unfortunate just how the world is and almost always have been. Money and power always drives the world

Wow
God Bless You Both
Ayrton is not dead he’s just a lap in front of us
A friend of mine was there who worked for lotus and he went white and didn't say a word when you asked him about it.
Ayrton I did know as he's a human just like us and not unreachable, despite what some of you say.
He came out to visit friends whom he knew when he worked for lotus, back in the early 80s.
Me and a friend played tennis and he often had a go on my RC Tamiya stadium blitzer truck.
He last visited us here in Norfolk UK Jan 8th 1994.
I was 13.
For reference it killed a spectator, they later died in hospital after being hit by jj leito rear wheel.
I got straight from someone who was there despite what it says on wiki, as there was a big cover up with a lot of things involving that race in that country.
By rights it should not of took place because Roland Ratzenbeger did actually die on this track. And by italian law, the race should not have taken place.
@HonestAutosTV, you were blessed to have known him, you're absolutely correct in all you said. That race should never ever have continued. It was so obvious that Roland was gone. It was also so obvious Ayrton was gone.
It just should never have happened. 😢😢
The price of greed.
Rest easy Legends. X
Roland died on track and an spectator died after the crash at the start of the race. They had two chances of saving Ayrton's life and they preferred to break the law. No one was arrested and that's outrageous. Furthermore, Senna was also killed by the most irresponsible actions done in his car's steering wheel. These actions led to his death, his assassination.
@@igorrodrigues4885 I empathise with You totally but Ayrton was dead or nigh on dead on the circuit after the crash.
Same as Ratzenberger but the maFIA failed to annul the race to avoid censure under Italian law n not to mention fiscal loss from race cancellation.
Even if Senna had survived those horrendous injuries, would U want Him ending up like Michael Schumacher!??
I know I wouldn't.😢😢
Greed by FIA took Senna away. It’s infuriating that they chose money over safety, especially when their most popular and talented driver was screaming constantly about implementing more safety measures.
Вы совершенно правы, очень тревожное событие, до сих меня тревожит 😢 несправедливо, Сенна 😢 ❤ мне было 10 лет... Я помню эту гонку.... 🇧🇷❤️
So many years have passed, yet the tears still fall. It was a horrific weekend. The race should never have been allowed to continue after Roland's fatal crash. Then we lost Ayrton...
Erik Comas, a truly touching gesture from one man to another. Just as Ayrton had done for him. That's the true kindness, and showing of a huge caring heart.
Rest easy Legends. Forever on the winner's podium and one lap ahead. X 😢
I was only 8 years old at the time. I remember the race very well (I've been watching F1 since I was 6 years old). Never has Brazil felt the loss of someone so much. Senna was a big philanthropist here, he supported several social programs. Everyone stopped. Everything stopped here...
Excellent video!
It was a tragedy for sure 😢. You have watched F1 for a long time, how do you feel the sport has changed in modern times? Has it become more exciting?
My mom was a huge Senna fan. She was starting labour during this race, senna hit the wall like that and labour stopped.
Next day i was born. Senna made my birthday a day later.
I am, and she still is a big fan of F1 :)
Great video! One tiny correction though: Barrichello's injuries were not as small as reported by most media. In a brazilian podcast he said that when he swallowed his tongue he ended up dying for 5 minutes until paramedics were able to revive him. He also had sequelae from the concussion to the point that he was unable to keep his memories from that whole week and even though he carried Senna's coffin during his funeral, any memory he had from these events were gone, in such a way that he's only able to recall these events by watching recordings. Cheers and congratz for the video!
That's a shame he can't remember doing that for his feow countryman at such a time. But then, he may be glad he doesn't remember. ❤
Well firstly, you can't 'swallow your tongue' and secondly he didn't 'die'
@@rogerchadwick3452 no ofcourse you cant fully swalow it man have some respect! You know what happened his tongue got stuck so he could not breathe for more than 6 minutes so he was decleared dead. You are not a doctor.

I was Senna's fan in my childhood in China. There were not a lot of ways to watch live so the best way is to keep watching TV until there are sports news and I can see the highlights. I still remember the day of his death, that I was shocked by this sad news. As a 9 year old boy, I cried. He's a legend of F1! 30 years later, I spent time with my wife to watch all the videos about Aryton, and he IS the one to respect!
Saw this race live. Two deaths in one race. Unbelievable!
You mean 2 deaths and one serious injory in one weekend?
Bernie's world. No way that man would lose a buck if he tried. Canceling races, running them in blind conditions, poor safety management. Farewell and adieu to you Spanish ladies.
Rest in peace to those who died from the races. God bless them all and may it never happen again. 🙏
In the rain there was no one for anyone. Legend.

Unfortunatly i was too young to have watched him race live and only heard so many great things about this legend as a race car driver but i never knew how much he cared for his fellow drivers! what a great man and role model.
If you no longer go for a gap that exists, you are no longer a racing driver. -Ayrton Senna
Which is why we so miss Ayrton and Red 5 !
The great difference between a driver and a champion, the ones who pursue this can lift throphies
Senna was a great man he gave a lot to charity and his country he gave is all to formula 1 racing he is a legend and one of the greatest drivers of all time you are a legend rip senna😊
I have never watched F1 again after Senna's death. What The F1 administration did has no excuse.
A really good documentary about what happend in 1994. Still miss him. He was my hero. ❤
Ayrton died on my birthday, the year i broke my neck...
I finally got to Imola to visit his Memorial...
The statue was smaller than i thought, yet its surrounded by fresh flowers....
He is still honoured....💞
I was watching the race live on TV, sadly it was immediately obvious something terrible had happened to Ayrton.
Senna will live on through all the people who loved him, he was not just a great driver but more importantly a great human. The best racing driver of all time, and not because he is no longer with us, he was simply the best ever.
FIA murdered senna ..
not just him, they killed also Ratzenberger
I disagree. Sure the role of FIA was questionable yet nobody forced Senna or Ratzenberger to race. Ultimately it is always the drivers decision.
Like You could get within 10seconds of Ratzenberger never mind Senna!!..🤬🤬@@carsyoungtimerfreak1149
Williams mechanics killed him due to poor welding of the steering column Senna requested to change the day before his accident
@@the_razr Yep they bodged it n literally legged it from censure!!.😢😢
Correction: Ayatron didn't go to Williams for a more powerful car, he went because they had dynamic suspension also known as automatic suspension. This suspension tech gave drivers edge when it came to taking corners.
Still angers me when I see that video of that marshal tipping barrichello’s car back up like that
Yeah not the thing to do with potential spinal injuries, but he helped save him because rubins had swallowed his tongue and hadn't he uprighted the car sid Watkins couldn't have cleared his throat and almost certainly would've died
Agree but in his case it was a Life saver, like people who ejected out of a car without a seatbelt and survived because of that. You need luck Ayrton was regrettably out of it. 😢

A lifelong Ayrton supporter and overall a good job with this compilation. First time I had seen a picture of the race helmet , it was obviously sad to see but helped us understand that there was no way or possibility to save him.
It still hurts after all these years. Senna to me was the best...I was 26 then and I cried. I'm 55 now and everytime I watch footage of Senna it brings tears to my eyes

i completely forgot that Eric Comas simply drove there in his car. my heart sank to my feet once again. such tragedy.
the fact so much blood was lost and it literally rained on the cars below was all you needed to know and it was a crime that the race still went on, after it was already a crime it started in the first place.
the sad thing about all of this was that had Senna actually decided to boycot and not race, he would have lived. he would not have raced, but he never raced more than 7 laps that day either.
there are many conspiratory stories, including assassination by (sniper) gunfire, supposedly indicated by the hole in the helmet, the reason being exactly the proposed boycot and that senna, as claimed, threatened to come out with the truth that they knew Ratzenberger was dead upon impact and that they should have cancelled, which has been claimed involved Italian mafia. Far out stuff? perhaps. probably. but, it encompasses the severity of that weekend.
it was the darkest moment in F1 history. the weekend of Bianchi's death was eerily similar though.
I must admit I love conspiracy theories but don't believe the train of thought that he was shot. That hole at the top of his helmet looks too round and precise though?
RIP SENNA! Every human in the world now who is SENNA. A world love SENNA. Every country love SENNA. The best driver in history, and never be born a driver like a Senna

The greed for money killed, killed and killed again. How did they sleep knowing what they did. Evil pure evil.
Best I ever saw by the eye test. He just looked faster than everyone. My gosh at the time I thought Prost was so good and then Senna showed me that there’s a difference between greatness and artistry.
Comas rushing to the scene with his car wanting to help his friend is truly heartbreaking to witness
0:13 that is the wrong layout, that is with the shicane to make tamburello a bit safer already if i am not mistaken.
I was six, a Senna fan thanks to my father, this was the death that made me realize what death really was and the feeling of loss that came with it. Now with 36 still remember vividly that moment.
There is a reason why I was named after this legend
But have you achieved anything to live up with the name Senna?
This is so sad even i had tears. RIP Senna
Remember watching this race turned out a very sad sad day still gut wrenching thinking about it.
I'm new to F1 and I found this video to be very informative and well put. It's unfortunate that there are people who prefer watching f1 where the pilots drive these little and unsafe cars, calling themselves as men who like to watch the race with "pure skill and adrenaline" while the legendary and skillful Ayrton Senna concerned about the safety regulations and the cars' safety technology.
I will admit i wasn't born yet but finding out the Senna had an Austrian Flag in the car for Ratzenberger.
I watched it. I knew when I saw the crash and his head slum 4:20 p. It still gets me watching this much sorrow because it was Senna Ruben and Roland. Even worse than Dale Earnhardt dying at Daytona and I'm a fan of both
Wish could turn back time.....that fu**ing moment when he crashed.....it still hurts so much. Love you 4ever Ayrton ❤️
1 was 8 years old when this happenend and i didn't know anything about formula 1. I was listening to a soccer finale in Holland which was interrupted to bring news of Senna's crash. It took some time before the news of him dying reached us, i'll never forget my uncle, with an anxious face asking me nervous: is he dead? When i said that i believed so he couldn't say anything. It's something i'll never forget.
2024 30 years without him.. tears still coming!
I watched this race live and to this day I never knew about the blood dropping from the helicopter onto that white car and the press.
The medic who was with Senna throughout the whole treatment stated the blood loss was so severe that as the helicopter tilted to land the blood collected and poured off the stretcher and was spread due to the spinning rotors.
where did you read that, if you dont mind telling me?@@locsta9892
At some point in the TV broadcast you could see a pool of blood on the ground. It was just for a second though before they changed the camera as they realized what they had just shown
Same here and that view of crash from bridge hearing the engine at full throttle then the impact it was unreal footage at the time I first saw it.
I didn't know about it til now either. It sounds horrifying!! Not nice for those people who got his blood on the either. 💔
Very first race I have ever watched and I almost stopped watching F1 after. Even watching this has brought tears to my eyes.
R.I.P senna the greatest formula 1 driver😢😢
06:22. I remember watching this scene live on TV and noticing that big red stain going down his chest. I knew his racing suit was white and blue, no red, so immediately I knew that this was very bad. Not a lot of people noticed that back then.
I remember watching the race live on BBC back then.. It was a horrible weekend....
Back then I also felt disguisted that the race continued.... I still find it mind blowing.
It is shocking seeing again how many wheels, parts and debris were constantly flying from cars.... Thankfully things have gotten much safer but that race should never have continued.
May he Rest In Peace
