Great video. 2 of my grt grt grandfathers arrived there 1857. One from Wales, the other from South America. He was Jose Pizarro, a muleteers for the mines there. Bringing mules over and trekking to the port with copper and back. When the copper ran out he, his wife and her family travelled slowly to Ballarat where they grew old and passed away there. There are many Pizarros still in SA and VIC. My father and brother were born with brown skin, black hair and brown eyes. Carrying Jose's genes on.

I lived in Burra in 1978…… it still had 5 pubs, the mine was still open as was the railway. I loved my time in Burra ✅

🎉Most enjoyable, thank you. My mother was born at Burra in 1914 and her parents moved to Broken Hill a few yrs later. She died when was 12 but I seem to recall her telling me she and her parents and siblings lived in the cottages. I did not realise Burra was such a lovely town. 🌹

Thanks for the video it was really interesting. We visited Burra on our way west in 2020, and intended to go as far as Perth and then come back. Burra was one of the places we wanted to visit on the way back to spend more time in. Sadly we were only there overnight, and we couldn't get back over the border so we had to go right around Australia running from covid! My father lived at Moonta Bay, and I believe the Moonta Mines are connected to the copper at Burra, so I've seen a bit of mining history over at Moonta. Hopefully we'll get back one day!

G'day Terry, once again a great and very informative video. Just a couple of weeks ago channel 9 put up a video of Burra. I have to congratulate you because your video left ch9's for dead. I'm a South Aussie and I was a member of the Adelaide Gem and Mineral Club, and around 1970 we the club had a "field day" in the copper mine. I found the specimen of the day a golf ball size of Banded Malachite and still have it to this day. I went back to the Burra Burra Copper Mine several years later and it was closed to the public. I was very disappointed. But it is so good to see it open now. Thank you so much for your vision around Burra. I'll definitely head back there sometime.. Cheers..

Same trip as Terowie and Peterbourgh. Stopped here overnight and that was when we found out about the railway line. The place we stayed at was trying to resurrect it because of the paltry price it was sold for. We wandered around without the key but was still interesting. At the time w went through these areas emus were coming into town looking for food and water this was before 2019, so not sure when this vid was done but can tell you it was very interesting at this time

That was a very interesting insight to the history of Burra.
Did you know that the Midnight Oil house is where Ian Rosewall was born, Ken Rosewalls cousin. There used to be to be a tennis court in front of the home and the family would sit on the veranda and watch Ken and Ian play tennis.
