I visit Burra once only with my husband im from Philippines..and until now still inlove in that place ..i miss and i cried watching this video hoping oneday i visit this amazing and very quite old town..
This is a fantastic contribution into Australian history, definitely the awesome photo shots. It’s just amazing! I enjoyed it so much and please accept my big thanks to the traveler💕💕💕
WOWeee! That was some night you had right enough, those shots were the bees knees, I think the last 2 of that old house and the Milky Way were really awsome! Richard you owned all those sites you did what was needed and made them stand out so well, I am telling you they should be paying you for the wonderful work your doing in promoting those old buildings, fantastic, I loved this vlog and now I cannot wait till the next one. Thanks again Richard for sharing with us all 😁👍
10 out of 10 for effort Richard. 11 out of 10 for the images 👍 challenging light situation with harsh floodlights. Looking forward to rugged landscapes very much
That is exactly right. Many times I have found a good foreground but some source of light , street light etc , always ruins it. Thanks for a nice video again.
Fantastic video Richard, you really do show that persistence in the face of adversity is an absolute must for success. Awesome images. I am amazed how many shots you get done in a night and then do video on top of that. Thanks for the effort.
Stunning historical scenery in a beautiful place. The images are just breathtaking! My favorite still is the Burra House. One of these days I will purchase that one to hang on my wall along with the Album Diesel and Dust. Australia is just so beautiful. Thank you for sharing with us Richard.
As always I enjoy it very much each adventure that you share with us. Love the way you work the light pollution in diferent situation out there. Very nice series about all those ruins sceneries.
Watching all of your videos. Love your images and your presentation is perfect. Going to back up now and watch your editing the milky way again. Thanks!
A great result with the Burra visit Richard. The Oils Cottage came up really well with the 50mm and the tracked sky. I also really liked the chimney stack at the mine site, that came up so well. Great results all round considering the problems with the flood lights. 😁👌👍
Once again thank you for taking us along with you on this journey, unfortunate about the flood lights, it's always a downside of highly popular tourist attractions. The images you did capture are amazing. The Midnight Oil house with the 50mm is incredible.
Busy night Richard, but wow some awesome photos as always. Those last couple of the midnight oil House, spectacular. Drive safe, look forward to your next adventure 😊
Amazing episode once again Richard! I know it's require a huge additional effort, but a video of Post-production of would be winner!! Thanks again from Montréal!!
Great video, Richard, as usual. Spectacular shots, too. The old engine houses remind me of the Cornish engine houses in south west England. Beautiful. I'm really enjoying this trip around South Australia; it looks amazing!!
The area Richard was photographing in was once a copper mining area opened up in the 1860’s or thereabouts, as was Moonta from a couple of videos ago. Many of the original miners came from Cornwall and they brought their engineering designs and methods with them. You can still buy a proper Cornish pasty from the local Moonta bakeries. The old abandoned boilers (mostly used for mine dewatering) found around these locations are pretty well all Cornish boiler designs.
I literally wait for each and every video of your to come out Richard. I spent 2 nights in Burra in early 2020 dodging bushfires from NSW to get back to WA , only for Covid to hit. I was there just before I started doing landscape and astrophotography. Now I am hooked on nightscape. Thank you so much for doing all this, hoping you go big time on UA-cam, your videos are awesome. Much appreciated!
As we expected another great video Richard. Fay and I enjoy every one you produce. In case you end up in Burra again you might want to visit the mine later. We camped next to it a few months ago and the lights turned off at 11:00pm.
I felt your frustrations with those lights Richard, just needless light pollution more than anything. Loved the way you explained your way around the problem though. Excellent results in very challenging lighting conditions.
Thanks for Burra, was planning to have a long weekend in Burra and take similar images. I was going to suggest Moonta Mines as they were not lit when we were last there. But we did get swooped by the local owl who was waiting for the pigeons inside the engine room. Haha.
Wow, that last shot... With the Milky Way behind that ruin, it looks like the house is on fire! I look forward to all your videos, Richard and can't wait to see more of your travels!
Well Richard, thanks for sharing with us a few clips of you doing the "Australian Wave"... And as well, the photo tour makes me envious of your counties mixed yet still beautiful mining/industrial history.
Richard, I honestly hope you get an opportunity at some point to visit one of your counties radio telescope arrays, as those should be a perfect background for you and your beautiful work.
cant wait to see your Flinders shots mate. I must admit a bit jealous of your shots I am only 2 hours away and not done what you have done so thank you for getting my fire going again and I hope to be out there soon to capture some images of my own.
Good on you Kris. It's often hard to get the fire burning ... nothing wrong with a break but at some stage you just have to get out there and see what happens.
Yeah Richard you really made the very best out of these flood lights. While watching, I came up with the to teke a roll of aluminium foil or these life saver foils in the first aid kids to cover those flood lights. These foils are very thin so this should prevent the lights from overheating. Best would be of course when these lights turn of past 12pm because there is hardly anyone outside. or they could be turned off via a button. These things exhaust or kill all these nightactive insects. just not worth it This sky replacement feature in photoshop is really awesome. I hope my used program (ACDSee) will implement something like this very soon. P.S. your milky ways are so detailed just stunning Love them Greetings
Enjoying your SA trip, we're exploring SA too but started from the west. I'm taking notes of all the places you visit so I can too when we get there in a couple of months from now.
A long night for you Richard with some super results! I do like the chimney with tracked sky @ 16:35 👏. As for floodlighting those old structures all night long, seems like a rather odd thing to do if no-one is there to see them?
As always, fantastic images Richard. Really impressed at how well the images with the floodlights turned out. The last few with the ruins and the Midnight Oil house were standouts for me. Really looking forward to seeing what you create at the Flinders. It's an incredible part of the world. Thankyou as always.
To bad about the flood lights RICHARD. WHEN YOU GET LEMONS YOU MAKE LEMONADE. Thats what you did great shots. I have trip to Europe planned and I hope the flood light are not going to be a problem there. Cheers
Great vid as usual Richard, have you considered carrying a couple of flat pac packing boxes to cover the offending lights or to create a screen. Just a thought clear sky’s
Another outstanding video and incredible images, especially the last two! No need to 'explain' your having to shoot the MW from a different location because of those flood lights. A painter does not explain his or her brush strokes! Thank you so much for sharing this great night with us!
Unfortunately for Richard, an explanation is probably necessary. There are always those purists that would complain otherwise. It's probably simpler for Richard to put a disclaimer in now, ahead of the complaints 🤔🤣
Another great and informative video, brilliant effort dealing with the tourist lighting at Burra mines. You have definitely got me eager for my road trip to the Finders in September 😁
These are wonderful! A really good video once again! I attempted photographing the milky way for the first time, its nothing as good as yours but the sheer joy i felt capturing it for the first time was amazing!
Hi Richard, once again an awe inspiring video. I am beginning to enjoy seeing more and more of your lovely country, as much as seeing the content about photography and astronomy. I never cease to be amazed at how well things are laid out for tourists and visitors. As an example, the fact that you are given keys to the old monuments and are trusted to be there without supervision. I imagine most people respect this and don't take advantage, otherwise the authorities wouldn't be so open. As usual, the photos were great, I particularly liked the pano of the small old building. By the way, you should try to convince the authorities to go for zero light pollution, in europe this is slowly catching on. Explain to them that they will get many nighttime guests if it were darker. Do you have any lobbying groups in Australia for dark skies ?
Thanks a lot David. Yes it probably is a little unusual for them to give out keys to such a place. I agree about the light pollution. Totally unnecessary to have lights on all night at this location.
Just got up to date with your SA trip as though l am subscribed your work is not coming through my notification feed for some reason anyway all caught up, great work as always.
Beautiful colours Richard, especially the final image. I think you met the challenge posed by the floodlights too. Thanks for sharing your road trip adventures.
Richard, When I have a shot with a street light ruining my photo, I use my hand held spot light to shine it on the light sensor. This will shut off the light for a couple of minutes, letting me light my shot. Have a cuppa and a Snickers on me.
Another awesome video Richard, and WHAT a location!! Talk about a target rich environment 😜 I thought the Burra building looked familiar, and was glad you mentioned Midnight Oils album.....the penny finally dropped🤣. Diesel and Dust and Blue Sky Mining were a big part of my formative years way back in the 80's, so I loved your visit to the location. Yes, Midnight Oil even made it to the UK 😁 I have a question though, your composition of the Burra building has the building central in the frame and the magnificent MW rising above it and off to the right of the frame. This makes it look unbalanced in my opinion, and I wondered if you had restrictions on site preventing you from getting a slightly more balanced image? Don't get me wrong, it is fantastic, but just looks a little "right heavy" to me. I am interested in your thoughts, and thanks for taking me way back to my youth 👍
Thanks so much for watching Daren. Yes it was difficult to reframe it a lot differently. The fence is a fair way from the building and even at 50mm the angles are hard to change significantly. I appreciate your comments though.
Hello Kerry. Thanks for watching. A star tracker is an item that you attach your camera to that follows the stars so that you can extend the shutter speed.
Hi Richard, I am very disappointed, you were in the neighbourhood and you didn't call in for a cuppa. Did you know the ruins north of Burra was made famous by Ken Duncan and it featured on a Midnight Oil album. It was a stop for Cobb & Co coaches. Look forward for the Flinders episode.
Your images turned out great, despite your lighting challenges, your usual high quality. Did you get back to the 1st ruin you went to, that wasn't the famous one? I'm impressed that you got so much done in one night, no way I'd be able to do that. I guess where you're so experienced in your field, you don't have to worry about messing up and having to go back to a location several times, just to get it right, like I do, lol..... How about this alternative on the phrase may hay while the sun shines....... Shoot nightscapes while the stars shine😉
Thanks as always Suzanne. It was a very tiring night but quite fulfilling. Yes that 1st ruin is the one where the trucks were going past later in the video.
Amazing as usual Richard. I will be out for my first trip of the year at the end of the month here in the UK. The weather has so far been awful this year, but here's hoping June/July new moon will be better. Keep up the great work mate, and I will keep trying to emulate you. Lol.
congratulations for your videos that I always follow, they are fabulous, I would like to ask you a question, I have a Nikon Z6 and I would like to buy a powerbank instead of a second battery, what would you recommend ?
Thank you so much for your kind words my friend. If you have the original Z6 it doesn't do usb powerbank charging. You need the Z6ii for that feature. To be honest, any power bank seems to work fine.
Great Video as always Richard, my wife's family lives in SA so might be an excuse to visit and get out to shoot some of those old stone buildings. With some of the building foregrounds why did you stacked 4 x f2.8, ISO 800 and 15 second images. rather than take a single f5.6 at ISO 200 and a minute or so exposure?
Thanks a lot Keith. To be honest I like to try different settings when out there shooting. I don't want to get bored doping the same thing all the time. Also sometimes the shorter exposures for the foreground make it easier to blend in the tracked skies.
How disappointing, this is a perfect time to introduce the government entity that is responsible for the ruins to the International Dark-Sky Society and, and low impact lighting. Great images and post!
I visit Burra once only with my husband im from Philippines..and until now still inlove in that place ..i miss and i cried watching this video hoping oneday i visit this amazing and very quite old town..
Thanks so much for watching Jheng.
Класс 🙌!!!! Обожаю Ваши видео !!!!!

You're very kind Garry. Thanks for watching.
Great stuff Richard, thank you so much for taking the time to share your passion with us all.
You're very welcome Francis. Thanks for watching.
This is the area where I first started my night photography journey!
And what a great area it is. I loved it near Burra.
That is exactly right. Many times I have found a good foreground but some source of light , street light etc , always ruins it.
Thanks for a nice video again.
That appears to be a common problem for us all. Thanks for watching.
Wowzers! 😮
Thanks for taking the time to look Dale.
The "Midnight Oil" house WOW the Mily Way looked huge. Great images as Usual, I really liked the solitary chimney and Mikky Way shot
Thanks so much for watching Jason.
Absolutely stunning images Richard

Nailed it again my friend. Absolutely fantastic photos😍

Fantastic video Richard, you really do show that persistence in the face of adversity is an absolute must for success. Awesome images. I am amazed how many shots you get done in a night and then do video on top of that. Thanks for the effort.
I really appreciate you watching John. Yes this was a busy night. .probably too busy but I enjoyed it.
Stunning historical scenery in a beautiful place. The images are just breathtaking! My favorite still is the Burra House. One of these days I will purchase that one to hang on my wall along with the Album Diesel and Dust. Australia is just so beautiful. Thank you for sharing with us Richard.

G'day Richard. Great work, beautiful images. Looking forward to your next, keep safe mate.

Richard great shots, in a difficult situation nice one.
I appreciate you watching Paul.

Thanks a lot for that Brett. Yes it's always a problem with high tourist areas. . but we live and learn I suppose.
Busy night Richard, but wow some awesome photos as always. Those last couple of the midnight oil House, spectacular. Drive safe, look forward to your next adventure 😊
Thank you so much Sharon. Yes it was a very busy night.
Great episode and the images (particularly that last shot) are beautiful. Really enjoying this South Australia series, great stuff
Thanks so much for watching Michael, I really do appreciate it.

Wow you really made the best of those lights! Amazing shots too
Thanks so much for watching.
Stunning video and incredible detail you get out of your night shots!
I'm really pleased you liked it Ellis.
I like the 50mm
Yes I love to use the 50mm when possible.
Some more, real nice ones. It sure is hard to beat the 50mm to pull that Milky Way in, where possible.
Yes I totally agree about the 50mm lens. Thanks again for watching.
Nice trip Richard, how good are those old sandstone buildings. Love them. Thanks for sharing
Yes they are fantastic Jeff. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful and inspiring AWESOME pictures, I LOVED THIS VIDEO, Great pictures Richard....

Amazing episode once again Richard! I know it's require a huge additional effort, but a video of Post-production of would be winner!! Thanks again from Montréal!!

@@AussieSouthlander thanks for this. That explains why the seem so familiar!!

Fantastic video again Richard, and some great photos. Good to see you using the 50mm to great effect 😀
Thanks Andy, yes I love to use the 50mm when possible.
As we expected another great video Richard. Fay and I enjoy every one you produce. In case you end up in Burra again you might want to visit the mine later. We camped next to it a few months ago and the lights turned off at 11:00pm.
Ah, thanks Simon. In that case I'd have to visit a little earlier in the year. Appreciate the advice.
Good onya mate,
Those ol relics are cool 😎
Yes they sure are Brett. Thanks for tuning in mate.
I felt your frustrations with those lights Richard, just needless light pollution more than anything. Loved the way you explained your way around the problem though. Excellent results in very challenging lighting conditions.
Thanks Dominic. Yes I don't think they need to be lit up like that at night. I doubt anyone would be wandering around at that hour generally.
Brilliant work once again mate.
Thanks as always Brad.

Thanks as always for watching Andrea, I really appreciate it.
Fantastic shots Richard you make it look so easy And you're driving on the wrong side of the road Lol
Thanks as always Jeff. Yes they make cars backwards over here.
Well Richard, thanks for sharing with us a few clips of you doing the "Australian Wave"... And as well, the photo tour makes me envious of your counties mixed yet still beautiful mining/industrial history.
Yes it's a beautiful part of the world for sure Paul. Appreciate you watching.
Richard, I honestly hope you get an opportunity at some point to visit one of your counties radio telescope arrays, as those should be a perfect background for you and your beautiful work.
Another great series of images Richard. Really enjoyed your creativity in dealing with those bright floodlights.

Hey John, thanks mate. I think you'll enjoy next weekends video from the Flinders Ranges.

All very good ideas. Yes I have no idea why there are floodlights here at all . .there is no-one around at night usually.
Fantastic images as usual under very hard conditions ,looking forward to your travels.
Thanks again for watching Phill. Yes it was difficult with the lights but the rest of the night was fantastic.
Enjoying your SA trip, we're exploring SA too but started from the west. I'm taking notes of all the places you visit so I can too when we get there in a couple of months from now.
Thanks for watching Debbie. I hope your trip goes well.
Fantastic work, you should come over to WA for a road trip around the south west...especially the Pinnacles Desert :)
Yes I reckon that would be great.
A long night for you Richard with some super results! I do like the chimney with tracked sky @ 16:35 👏.
As for floodlighting those old structures all night long, seems like a rather odd thing to do if no-one is there to see them?
Thanks so much Paul. Yes I agree about the flood lighting. These are in a very secluded spot . .not on a road side so it doesn't make sense at all.
As always, fantastic images Richard. Really impressed at how well the images with the floodlights turned out.
The last few with the ruins and the Midnight Oil house were standouts for me.

@@nightscapeimages.richard oh, I didn't know if that was the burra house
Amazing as usual Richard. I will be out for my first trip of the year at the end of the month here in the UK. The weather has so far been awful this year, but here's hoping June/July new moon will be better. Keep up the great work mate, and I will keep trying to emulate you. Lol.
Thanks for tuning in again Roy. I hope you get some clear skies soon.
All great shots again Richard but you must be ecstatic with those last two, they are brilliant. How high does that bar go mate ?
Haha, well I feel like I'm doing the limbo under that bar quite often ..!!!!
congratulations for your videos that I always follow, they are fabulous, I would like to ask you a question, I have a Nikon Z6 and I would like to buy a powerbank instead of a second battery, what would you recommend ?
Thank you so much for your kind words my friend. If you have the original Z6 it doesn't do usb powerbank charging. You need the Z6ii for that feature. To be honest, any power bank seems to work fine.
Again fantastic shots Richard!! your milkyways have so much color, are you using an astro mod camera?
Thanks John. Yes some of my shots are using the h-alpha mod camera.
Shame your not getting the silo art shots
Yes I did see a few but they are all lit up like Christmas trees at night.
What is the best month to visit Burra for the Milky Way photography???????
I was there in May and that was ideal as you don't have to wait til late at night to see the milky way. But you'll capture it between March and July.
@ what about now? Is any comet now???
How disappointing, this is a perfect time to introduce the government entity that is responsible for the ruins to the International Dark-Sky Society and, and low impact lighting. Great images and post!
Thanks a lot for watching Walter, really appreciated.
