Yes! The battle cry from Defying Gravity was at the end of the trailer. I don’t love this but in recent years they tend to add at least one “new” song to the film adaptations for Oscar consideration.

@@kb523 Yes, what's the problem with that? Everything else looks era-appropriate, why not the make-up as well? I think the limited use of make-up for her adds a level of charm that was also found in the older film.
@@ActuallyHoudini wrong. With how far make up, prosthetics and the overall budget of films have changed, so should the standards. Just because they were happy painting Elphaba green all those years ago doesn’t give them a pass to be sloppy just so you can call it charm.

I hope that you’re not in the United States because the rights for wicked aren’t even out yet which could subject a school to hundreds of thousands of dollars and fines.
The rights are available outside of the US though for schools and community theaters.

I love Wicked bc it’s basically a game of Telephone. Like it’s a movie adaptation of a musical adaptation of a reboot novel of a movie adaptation of a children’s book from the 1900s. After watching Hairspray Live I don’t have the utmost faith in Ariana to portray a character instead of portraying herself in a costume, but she’s not a weak singer and she has acting ability so I’m hoping for the best.

@@BrothaJ365 Glinda in the play is supposed to be a typical preppy chick. A borderline valley girl type, but still with a good heart as her friendship with Elphiba develops. Personally I’m skeptical, but who knows? Maybe she can pull it off. I’ve never seen Grande acting, so maybe she’ll nail it. At the same time, the way Hollywood casts musical movies nowadays, it definitely comes across as doing it for the name. Like James Corden and Rebel Wilson in Cats or a good chunk of Mama Mia’s cast

Yes they came out and said they are adding about 3/4 new songs and some of the original songs won’t be in the first movie but it’ll be in the second
It’s 2 parts because they wanted to include more from the book, so they’ll have more time so they prob won’t cut much out.

I saw the theater production and I have no interest in the live action film.
It is not strictly a prequel. Part 1 may be one if they cut part 1 and 2 like the musical divides acts 1 and 2.
A lot of act 2 happens at same time as Dorothys story.
Uffff, I have mixed thoughts about that…imagine if they decide to make the second part. People will rage and think they’re retconning a “beloved classic”. I mean, not everyone is into Broadway and very few people know the novels ( in my opinion).

it's not even a prequel since Wicked is based on Maguire's work which is a reimagined ver of the Baum story

Ariana Grande was a pretty bad casting choice for Glenda The Good...I can already see how dull her performance is going to be for someone who is supposed to be pretty upbeat and bubbly...her voice doesn't really fit either and i can already tell she's going to do her best to out preform every scene she's in.

lol you’re uneducated Ariana has literally done Broadway since she was a child she was in the original casting of the 13 musical she was trained to become a Broadway star before she did pop music she’s more Broadway than pop that’s her heart and soul she has tons and tons of musical theatre background she’s one of the most versatile vocalists on the planet and can change her technique in an instant she’s also one of the greatest people at imitation so she will be able to do Kristen’s inflections perfectly paying homage to her whilst still making glinda hers she’s wanted to do this for over a decade it’s been her life long dream role she’s studied every single aspect of the wizard of oz and wicked and read every single book you just hear Ariana and think popstar without doing any research whatsoever on top of that Kristen Chenoweth has known her since she was 10 years old and has given her seal of approval from THE Kristen herself…

Is it? Am I the only one who remembers what Glinda’s role in the Wicked musical is?
Glinda is a selfish, self absorbed, jealous character. She hates Elphie just for being different and only befriended her after she realized Elphie had something she wanted…natural magical ability. Something she could help Glinda with. Their friendship is completely self serving for Glinda.
Glinda is only called the good witch in comparison to the “wicked witch” which was all a smear campaign by the Wizard of Oz. It’s irony. Elphie is the actual good witch, the one concerned about the animals in Oz, the one concerned with doing the right thing. Glinda is the actual wicked witch, only concerned with herself and her ambition, forsaking even her “best friend” to gain the notoriety and fame.
Ariana is perfectly suited to play a self absorbed, selfish character who only cares about herself and has no concern for doing what’s right, in my opinion.

I won’t understand why you think it is appropriate to cast middle aged women as young adults especially when one had been straining her voice doing the role for so long that is unless you are trying to suggest that they play the older versions of the characters. However, that wouldn’t make much sense since oldest we see the characters are right after Dorothy leaves OZ aka not that much.

I can’t wait to see you some of the things that they have incorporated straight from the novel that wasn’t in the musical. There looks like there’s a scene where ELPHABA and Madame Morrible work on growing her powers. We don’t ever get to see that in the musical because there’s not enough time. There’s some characters added from the book that are not in the musical. So these are going to be fun.

Yesss!!! I am so excited for this!!! My mom took me to see Wicked in NYC on my birthday many years ago, and it was phenomenal!!! Not to mention I was lucky enough to see it with the original cast!!! I’m a fan of Ariana because of her Broadway background! Knowing how much she loves Wicked, and that she is close friends with Kristen Chenoweth, the original Glinda, I know she is going to give this her all, and I couldn’t be happier!!! PS: I hope they don’t cut really any of the songs. I mean, I could do without “Something Bad”, but other than that, I don’t want any other songs cut. I mean obviously, we won't hear some of the songs in part 1, because songs like "Thank Godness", "No Good Deed", and "For Good" are in Act 2.

Heads up if u ever want to read the book it is very VERY different from the play. Its like an OZ political thriller and the beginning (for me) was so hard to get through

I don't realy have a problem with new songs, as long as they stick to the themes and HOPEFULLY fix at least some of the issues with Nesa.
Sadly I only know about Ariana but I'm fine with her having had worked in theater in her youth, hope the years and stardoom haven't washed her experience away.
And the variety in the cast gives me quite some hope that they will in fact respect (at least to some extent) the mesage.

it's because this video is wrong. Wicked is a musical adaptation of a book. The book is a reimagining, a retelling, an alternative universe version of The Wizard of Oz. We see the story of Elphaba and Galinda who become the wicked witch and Glinda.

“Divided into two parts” Can you say cash grab and unnecessary? Unless that musical was four hours long, I’m sure some condensing is more than possible.
There’s an entire book that the musical was based off of, so I’m sure they have some more material to work with. The musical is already almost 3 hours, so I’m sure they split it up to have a more satisfying two movies as opposed to a single rushed/longer movie. I’d prefer that at least, more to look forward to. Act 1 of the musical has a very distinct note to end on as well, pun intended.

Hollywood artists don’t usually care about source material over money, so I’m sticking with my view on this. Not to mention this is supposedly an adaptation of the musical first, so the book wouldn’t be as big a factor

The producers have said it’s to please the fans and not cut anything. If anything it sounds like they are adding stuff from the book that wasn’t in the musical. (Ex silver slippers instead of ruby). Also know... the books are NOTHING like the stage show but the foundation of an Oz story meant to recontectualize the Wicked Witch of the West. But the book series is darker.
