They are in fact doing two parts, because 1) they don’t want to cut anything from the stage show, and 2) Gregory Maguire wanted to include more of his original novel into this film adaptation, since his book was always supposed to be made into a movie.
That makes sense because the book is loooong! I wonder how much they'll include from the book though, it is certainly a lot more...dark than the musical had space for nuance to include. I read it as a teen not long after the musical started up and yeah...not really the most appropriate maturity wise for all teens. I probably should have been a few years older for the first read. So there's likely some of those more intense elements that won't make it into the movie simply due to the producers probably wanting to keep a PG-13 rating at highest. I'd be very surprised if they go for an R. The musical I wouldn't say is great for really young kids but it's fine for teens and pre-teens and I doubt they want to cut out that audience group.
I REALLY didn't like the book, but I think it was mostly his style of writing that bothered me. I read it way back when it was first published, and I remember thinking the idea was cool, but the execution sucked. If they do put more of the book in, I hope they get a great screenwriter to collaborate.
1) The stage show is only about 2 1/2 hours without intermission, so they could've made the movie 2 1/2 hours (or even 3 hours) without cutting anything. 2) I haven't read the book but I hear it's way darker and some important plot points are different, so I hope they don't fundamentally change Wicked the musical in order to be faithful to the book.
@@MusicSparkleStar09I did the same! I saw the musical with my family when I was in 7th or 8th grade, and I was so excited to read the book. I did not realize how explicit and graphic it was going to be lol. I was like oh I am definitely not telling anyone I’m reading this right now.
I love how every actress that plays Elphaba and Glinda brings their own specialness to the characters with inflection and different riffs to songs. They make them so unique and different to every show and that's one of the things I love about live theater. It's different every time.
fun fact if there are those who don't know. Every Elphaba "black" dress is different. All are made from the same collection of fabrics but they are each put together with those fabrics in different ways. Also every Elphaba hat is different, mostly in the curves of the brims so it becomes each Elphaba's "signature".

After "The Color Purple (with Halle Bailey)" came out, I decided to listen to songs from the Broadway musical with Cynthia Erivo singing so I had an idea what "The Color Purple" (the musical) sounded like and to educate myself in how she sings. After I listened to "I'm Here" and "The Color Purple" (the song) and her version of "When You Wish Upon a Star" for that "Pinocchio" movie, I was blown away by her vocals. I thought, "Dang! She's got some insane vocals!" It's no wonder that they decided to cast her as Elphaba. When I saw this trailer earlier this week, when I heard Cynthia's battle cry, I got goosebumps all over.
John Chu wanted to incorporate more from the books and really show the friendship between Glinda and Elphaba. Also Stephen Schwartz has written two new songs for part two that aren't in the original musical. So there is also that.
I would love to see you dive into some of Cynthia's more recent live performances! There's a few from the Kennedy Center that are INSANE! The cover of "Alfie" from Dionne Warwick's Kennedy Center Honors, as well as the cover "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Prince from Next at the Kennedy Center! Both some of the best performances I have seen from her, and I have seen just about everything she has done. She only seems to be getting better, which I didn't even know was possible! Would love to see you analyze them!! 🩷

I am both excited and terrified for this movie. Wicked was the first musical I remember seeing live and inspired my love for the genre so having it on a screen huge and powerful is hopefully going to be a dream come true. But that is also what makes me nervous, like if the changes they make have no relevance to the story and end up being a distraction (like in Matilda). I would love to see more hints about the big story moments - eg. the epilogue ending - being layered throughout and not just jump scare types of plot twists which really only work for live performances and not TV. So I am calling my mood cautiously optomistic. Thank you for attending my ted talk x
the film was split into 2 so that they could include cut details from the book not featured in the stage show. im sure everything will be well thought out and adapted to film adequately
I honestly hope that in the movie they show the supporting cast like nessa, boq, etc, transform into their wizard of oz characters. When I saw the show it was so cool to see how they got their stories leading up to the characters everyone knows from the wizard of Oz. Like how Nessa got the famous slippers from her father in the first place and how the lion who got released is probably the lion grown up. It’s just so fun to see these little connections!
Yess I've always thought this would be super cool to see! There are a lot of hints in the show that tell us who these characters eventually become but it's never fully shown.
YES. I’ve seen the stage show 3 times and the horribly loud CREAK of tin man’s first steps were so CHILLING! Everyone was absolutely breathless! I’m also super excited for Nessa. Major underrated character. We were robbed on the soundtrack not getting “Wicked Witch of the East”.
When I tell you I SCREAMED!!! My husband started laughing at me but y'all... I'm 41 and have been wanting a movie for literally HALF MY LIFE. LOL I am SO EXCITED!
i was definitely scared when they said they were making this movie. i specifically remember saying “they should’ve just filmed a proshot like hamilton and just be done with it” LOL but as the casting was announced and i saw how much passion and love Jon M Chu has been putting into the project i gradually started to love the idea more and more. i’m definitely nervous about them changing too many things but i’m so excited for the soundtrack and the big sets, musical numbers, the development of elphaba and glinda’s relationship and the addition of things from the book that didn’t make it into the stage version!
the movie is split into 2 because they didnt want to cut anything from the story. the stage show is alr vague enough as is so they are adding a lot of content to truly round out and complete the story without making any sacrifices :) side note i hope we get a more galinda focused teaser since the released trailer is ofc very elphaba centered (the book ofc is mainly abt elphaba so it makes sense, but i would still love to see a galinda teaser)
Well did you know that Kristen Chenoweth has known Ariana Grande since she was very young. So her playing Galinda is absolutely perfect. I really enjoyed watching your reaction to this.
Ariana did a cover of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on set a while ago and I feel like her vocal technique is going to be somewhere towards that style. Very classic, operatic vibes with clearer diction. It felt very Judy Garland-esque and of that time. It was so different for her, and I’m so curious to see what you think about it!
I was skeptical when they said they were splitting it into two movies, but judging from the trailer, I think they're incorporating stuff from the book that was left out of the musical. They've definitely already filmed the whole thing, so probably teasing both movies.
The real test for this movie's success in my eyes is if they can capture the HEART of the stage show... vocals, production design and writing aside, the ACTING is what will make or break this for me. But I'm optimistic!!
They are breaking the story into two parts because of multiple reasons. For a start, they don't want to sacrifice any of the songs in the adaptation. Your typical Broadway show runs three hours in length, and has a breakneck pace, meaning that when you take it for adaptation to film, you usually have to cut the songs in order to get it to screen. A two parter won't have that issue. Second, they are taking more elements from the original Wicked novel. When it was brought to the stage, they cut a lot of the characters and subplots, and having more time with the movie gives them a chance to bring those story back into the narrative.
Also there’s a very good reason to break it into 2 parts. That’s called Defying Gravity. How can you not use Defying Gravity as a climax? How can the biggest song in the movie only be halfway through? Makes more sense to stop it there, and come back at Thank Goodness.
I remember reading the novel and thinking, “oh! Oh my! I’m sure that got cut from the musical, there’s nooooo way they’d include that,” for very specific scenes…
Yeah it's a long ass book and they cut so much that the second half of the musical barely makes sense. I think it will be better as 2 movies, especially if they go back to the book.
That's so cool! What type of work does your cousin do (in general)? If you don't mind me asking. Costuming obviously consists of a lot of people. That sounds like an incredible job. I'm sure it's difficult but rewarding AF!
@@its-MK... She was Principal Truck Supervisor and in Matilda she was head of principal costumes, so she is looking after the costumes and delivering them to cast trailers etc. She works very long hours and the work isn't consistent, but she loves it.
So, idk what leak you watched but there is another one in which Ariana hits the "No One Mourns the Wicked" alternate ending note, which is a sustained E6 with vibrato
The 2nd part has 2 new songs in it. 1 for Glinda called 'The girl in the bubble' and Elphaba has a song called 'Theres No Place Like Home' You're Welcome 😁
it 100% will be 2 movies. this teaser was for the overall franchise and im assuming we will get another teaser that focused more on the first film closer to its release. it would be a 4+ hr film otherwise. my guess is that this teaser was to get the film on peoples minds since it was shown to the millions of people watching the super bowl.
nah its still 2 and my guess is they're splitting it at Defying Gravity that's probably where it will end I feel like it kind of makes sense cause Act 2 is WAAAAAY darker especially if they're bringing more of the book in
It will not. Dune was not called Dune Part One. Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse was not called SATSV Part One. It was not called It: Chapter One until the END of the movie. This is the current trend of hiding the fact that a movie is one of two movies. Of course Wicked fans and people who follow film news know, but they're counting on most casual moviegoers not knowing.
As far as I know from what I've heard and read on the internet, there are gonna be some changes in the movie to the show because they will try to be a little more book acurate by taking a few book characters and incorporating them. So there could be a few changes surrounding this but I hope they won't be too big as the show is 99% perfect as it is (the 1% in my eye is that they are obviously gay, but many people are not ready for that conversation)
i know that two parts may seem annoying but i feel like it's for the better (or should i say for good sorry i couldn't help myself) because to me this means that the people creating this care so much about this story and making sure nothing gets lost because it is built so beautifully and if two parts means it will be better translated to screen then im more than okay with it because we have seen too many musicals messily put up on a screen and ended up in the dumps
Grrraaahhh! I love wicked ever since I saw it. The actors were beautiful, and the production looked so thought about. The movie looks, actually better than other productions made into movies. I cannot wait to see this.
No Spoilers But I saw the movie yesterday. All I can say is Arianna Grande did so good as galinda. All the jokes landed to where everyone in theater laughed. Cynthia and Arianna Grande did Kirsten and Indina justice. I had full body chills the entire time. I didn't cry But I was literally in shock to where I was Speechless. Like a had zero words. Everyone let out in applause when the credit started rolling ahhh.
about ariana’s voice: i understand the fear that bc she’s a pop star she only sings a certain way but if you’ve paid attention to her over the years you would know she has an incredible vocal agility (as shown by her amazing celebrity impressions) and a role like this is not something she took lightly. she took acting and vocal lessons just for this. we know that in the past she CHOOSES to sing musical theatre in her more stylized/pop voice, but when it comes to doing it right she CAN and that’s all that matters (:
As a fan of Ariana since the days of '13' and singing karaoke covers on her bedroom floor, I have no doubt she'll nail this role. I'm so excited that she was cast as Galinda! ❤🎉❤
I could be wrong, but what I've heard from the grapevine in regards to the reasoning for the 2-parter (which is still happening) is because the creatives felt they couldn't continue the story in a smooth way after Defying Gravity, which I somewhat agree with. DG marks an end to one of Elphaba's character arcs and, after the intermission, there's a big timeskip where the characters are going through new and old struggles based on the events of Defying Gravity. It doesn't help that past musical movies have failed to bridge the gap between the first and second acts. As for how I feel about the movie, as a long time HUGE Wicked fan, I am definitely cautiously optimistic. There's some cool elements (at the very least its got great aesthetics and color), but I need a lot more than a trailer to convince me that this cast is gonna work. I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt Cynthia looked a little too old to be playing what's supposed to be a college-aged Elphaba (though I'm sure she's gonna be amazing), and I'm glad that I'm not alone in regards to the skepticism of Grande's casting. Will she sound good? Yeah, definitely! She's a talented singer! But outside of her few broadway credits and staring in a Nickelodeon show (both when she was a lot younger than she is now), I worry she might not have the acting experience to display the nuance of Glinda's character. Glinda makes a fair amount of choices in the play that, if not played right, can come off as super shallow and unsympathetic. She's supposed to be someone you recognize to be as flawed but also, in some ways, sympatheize and root for her because you know she's capable of MAKING good choices. So fingers crossed. I do hope it's good, but it's hard to feel excited when the past few musical movie adaptations haven't been very good. I worry I'll be disappointed if I raise my hopes too high.
I read an article just the other day explaining why. They're basically merging the book and the musical, and expanding on important characters that didn't get all of the attention that they should have in the musical (i.e. Nessarose). If you've read the books as well, I promise, it makes sense why they're doing it this way. Don't give up hope; it's extra world building and character development that just didn't make the cut in the final Broadway production. I am a hardcore Broadway Wicked fan, and I'm so excited that they're expanding it with more of the book material -- I am assuming that there will probably be extra songs that were likely cut from the original stage production due to time constraints brought back for this two-part rendition. Nessarose deserves her moment. (Also, kudos to the casting director for casting an actress who is an actual wheelchair user! We love authenticity -- 🎶Everyone deserves a chance to SHINE!🎶)
I was one of those people that did not like her battle cry at the end. I saw you reviewed "I'm Here" and raved. I went to watch your video and let me say, you changed my mind about her being Elphaba. Thank you!
Because it’s a teaser it’s not gonna have part one on it yet. The main trailer for part one will probably have it in the title. And yes, it needs 2 parts because the world of wicked is beyond the musical and it’s exciting to see more of the book come to life!
I'm excited about this, though after hearing Ariana slay The Wizard and I at that Wicked celebration a few years ago (I think you reacted to it) I was kind of expecting her to be Elphaba when first announced. I'm hoping by having 2 parts there will be a lot more included from the book! Can't wait, keeping my expectations low so I won't be disappointed!
criticism on her battlecry??? no way, i heard it and i LOVED it. I also love, of course, Idina Menzel, but like Cynthia NAILED that battle cry and gave it her own identity. it is AMAZING and i LOVE it.
My personal opinion, I think Wicked should have been made into an animated movie instead of live action. I'm willing to give this a try but I guess I just see a lot of musicals through a Pixar perspective
I’m so excited! This was a perfect teaser and introduction to great things ahead on the big screen. Hannah, thank you for your videos. I appreciate your knowledge, your humor and your smile!
Jeff Goldbloom makes me nervous as the wizard. Other than that…when does the soundtrack drop? Is it November yet? 😂 You should read the novel…waaay different then the musical
I hope that the front cover of the movie is Ariana grande and Cynthia Rebo’s side face picture like the little book you get when you go to a Wicked play!❤❤❤❤😢😢😢😢😢😢
Wicked is the only show I have ever been able to see a production of. I saw the Broadway Across America version at the Boston Opera House when I was in seventh grade with my afterschool program and I cried like a baby. I knew most of the music because I was a huge theater nerd but it was one of the most magical moments of my childhood. I also have a lot of history with "For Good", and sang it with a friend at another friend's funeral so I sob every time I listen to it.
so excited for the movie! THIS is why you bring broadway people on for musicals and not try to reinvent the wheel like so many musical movies were weirdly trying to do (like absolutely murdering Les mis on film - and ALSO hacking up Into the Woods). Musical people KNOW how to do musicals!! Let them cook!!
I think the belt at the end made me wary at first because it was so jarring because of how loud and assertive it was, vs the rest of the trailer that was more “calm and quiet” (idk the right word). So initially I felt it out of place. I grew to think I’ll like it with hearing the whole song and it leading up to that
Honestly, I would love to see the original Broadway run with Idena Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth. I am somewhat excited about this, but I don't think it will live up to the original.
Look, my bar for movie musical adaptations is currently very low (I mean... you just have to be better than Cats. Just better than Cats. That's all.). And Wicked is one of my favourite shows (have seen it 30 times in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Las Vegas). So I was very wary when this was announced. But Jon Chu has a good track record with adapting material... and each time I watch this teaser trailer, it grows on me a bit more. So I am cautiously optimistic. I agree that the LOOK of the movie is pretty incredible.
The wicked trailer gave me so much hope in every second of both movies. I am so glad this didnt get the cats or movie mean girls musical treatment. Also, have you ever reacted to the show smash? I recommend the songs "Lets Be Bad", "Let me be your star", and Don't Forget me" if you decide to, its such an underrated show!
I’m really excited for it! I’m predicting that it’ll be one if the better movie musicals. I don’t love that AG is in it. I felt that it was a big missed opportunity to give it to a lesser known actress, particularly someone who was on Broadway more recently than her. But they wanted the big name and I think she’s going to do a good job. I also saw the show for the 1st time last Fall when it came to STL! I loved it but felt that the Elphaba left a little to be desired. Maybe it was an off night for the actress, but she was trying a little to hard with the acting and while she had a good voice, I think some vocal training would help her strengthen her voice on the bigger belts. Like during DG, her last belt was lost in the music. Anyone else feel that?
a lot of people audition for glinda, the potential and dedication that ariana has for that role played a huge part on getting to where she is now, if they wanted a big name for the movie the way they should’ve done it was by elphaba, by the teasers (and leaked bts) i agree that ariana will DEVOUR that role, it’s just a matter of time to see it.
Wicked Part 1 has a budget of $145M, and they probably need to make at least $400M to $450M to break even after accounting for marketing costs. Plus, there'll be strong competition from Moana 2 released during the same window. Part 2 should be scheduled for release in June / July 2025 instead of November 2025.
$400M to $450M to break even is on the low end of the marketing budget for this movie. Universal has partnered everywhere to promote Wicked: Crocks, Hilton, Walmart, Target, Stanley Cups, Starbucks, Universal Studios Theme Parks, Wicked mutli city tour, Amazon, Lego, etc...I'm assuming the marketing is at least twice Wicked Part/Act I principal photography budget of $145M minus reshoots. Wicked Part/Act I will have to make near 900M to 1B to break even on this film. That's not even accounting for the Part 2 costs, we will see their real budget when UK releases it for their movie tax discount credits to save on budget expenses. Remember Movie Studios only keep about 20-50% of the total revenue from the box office.
I HATE how people are comparing the notes at the end to the original, as if every actress who hasn’t played Elphaba hasn’t made it their own but for some reason Cynthia is treated different. If you guys want the original, go listen to the original because no one is stopping you. And even then there are people mad that a black women is playing Elphaba as if it’s never been done before 🙄
I saw Wicked on Broadway in 2006/2007 & Elphaba rising up at the end is etched into my brain forever. The whole thing is just so damn good. Also, the movie has an actual wheelchair user playing Nessarose & I cannot freaking wait to see her 😍❤️
I hope they’re able to work in a little more of the social commentary from the book. Not too much just a little more as I don’t think the stage musical really hammers home how awful the wizard really is as much
*I don’t see many people saying this, so I’ll say it 😢 : I DID NOT LIKE THE RIFF AT THE END OF DEFYING GRAVITY*. It sounds like she’s struggling to hit the notes, it fell flat, and the riff takes away from the emphasis of it being a “cry” . It should be pure, sustained and direct, think Jessica Vosk’s version or even Alyssa Fox’s version (current Elphie on Bway). And did they REALLY have to give away the most epic part in the trailer? Such a spoiler!* 😢
Btw, I have seen Cynthia sing and she has a lovely warm tone. Very talented! So I’m not saying she isn’t capable of this music, what I’m saying is, as a Bway nerd, I’m really ticked at whoever gave her the instruction to riff Defying Gravity. Just no.
@@samsanchez8247 Its a battle cry, chile Every elphaba actress on Broadway has sang it their own way. And I think this one from Cynthia is so good. It'll all make sense when you hear the full defying gravity audio
I did not like it at all either. I am sure Cynthia has vocal chops (I don't know anything about her), but that part sounded incredibly rough. I was already majorly on the fence about this movie because of the casting of Ariana as Glinda, and now after hearing that riff, and hearing that the film is apparently going to be split into 2 parts... mehhhh. Probably going to give this movie (or movies) a miss and just go and see the musical on the West End again.
They’re still doing two parts! Which I think is good tbh, it gives the filmmakers the opportunity to fully flesh out the story as it’s meant to be told! I am nervous about the new songs they’re adding, I hope they’re good, but I am a little skeptical
I really get the feeling this is going to crash and burn. Just look at the audiences on social media. Musical fans hate the book, and book fans hate the musical. They fight every time one or the other is even mentioned in comment sections. So really, the only hope this movie has of a saving grace is the casual audience and the Grande stangirls.
They're definitely doing 2 parts, a year apart. The Director (or writer) evidently said that they didn't want to cut anything out, and wanted to divide it with Defying Gravity. They felt like it needed to break there.

Wait what? Is he gonna sing in the wicked movie? And actually it's coming out next month! November 27@@karenn.396
Remember when Ariana did a duet with Mika that sampled Popular and now she's playing the character that sings Popular?
I remember that!😂
lmao i was obsessed with that music video where they poison everyone at the dinner party - this was my first introduction to ariana grande altogether
Shut up I swear I thought I dreamed that song 😂
She sang show tunes with Seth McFarlane a few years back.
She’s actually mentioned Glenda being a dream role a good while before she was cast
I also had the same aprehension about Ariana and i am pretty much cured of it. That shot of her saying "youre green" i just thought "thats Glinda!"
I could watch it over and over i love it 😅
I love how every actress that plays Elphaba and Glinda brings their own specialness to the characters with inflection and different riffs to songs.
@@garylife5320 Did they discuss that in the wicked musical the official visual dictionary guide book?
i was kinda not of fan of ariana's casting. but after these leaked footage when i saw the dress and her version of no one mourns the wicked they got me there! So SO excited.

I kind of felt that way about Ryan Gosling as Ken. “Hes too old to play Ken now!” I said. Then I saw the movie and realized he is the only person to play Ken. He made the movie. I understand the same sentiment about Cynthia but I have a feeling she will wow everyone and make it her own.
I also think Ariana will do a great job. She is obviously really talented but she is very versatile as well. I saw her on SNL and she is an amazing impressionist. She can sound exactly like so many singers. If you haven’t seen it then watch it and you will be amazed. I have a feeling she will be able to embody that Kristen Chenoweth cute and funny version of Glinda very easily
shes near 40. she is way to old to be playing a college student
@@SoulKnightKing she looks older than a college student but she doesn’t look 40 to me. Also I think casting for realism when it comes to age seems a little silly because how realistic is a character with a green face? 😂
It’s pretty common to cast older actors in high school or college age roles. Just watch Saved By The Bell 😉
@laurenmichero9003 have you seen Ari? She looks dolled up but still very believable for College aged. Cynthia comparivtely does not. OK, she's green? But Cynthia is just a straight miscast. Aside from the fact ger voice is too pretty and will blend too well with Aris Glinda, when Glinda and Elphaba by design are vocally designed to contrast with one another when they blend.

@@thenextbestamericanrecord That is the dream outcome. Fingers crossed 🤞
@@tesstucker3311they didn’t include wicked witch of the east on the album because it contains too many spoilers
I think so! I’d imagine 4-5 hours of wicked altogether with part 1&2, they did this intentionally. I’m gonna keep my hopes up.
The lion is the Cowardly Lion as a baby. He even gets his own book: A Lion Among Men.
When I tell you I SCREAMED!!! My husband started laughing at me but y'all... I'm 41 and have been wanting a movie for literally HALF MY LIFE. LOL I am SO EXCITED!

Supposedly the author intended all along for it to be a movie anyway?
@@robertmiller5516 He did! That's part of why the movie is split into two parts, so they can add in more from the book.

the movie is split into 2 because they didnt want to cut anything from the story. the stage show is alr vague enough as is so they are adding a lot of content to truly round out and complete the story without making any sacrifices :) side note i hope we get a more galinda focused teaser since the released trailer is ofc very elphaba centered (the book ofc is mainly abt elphaba so it makes sense, but i would still love to see a galinda teaser)
Me too!! A Glinda trailer with a glimpse of Popular would be iconic 🥺
I get teary eyed every time I watch the trailer. I have never watched wicked and yet I feel so attached to it already.
Well did you know that Kristen Chenoweth has known Ariana Grande since she was very young. So her playing Galinda is absolutely perfect. I really enjoyed watching your reaction to this.
THANK YOU for saying Galinda instead of Glinda. That made my heart so happy!
@amyarmenta6707 that was her name, right?
@@sharonmortimer3843 YES!!! She changed it from Galinda to Glinda later on to make Fiyero happy. (Wicked is my favorite book of all time)
Ariana did a cover of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on set a while ago and I feel like her vocal technique is going to be somewhere towards that style. Very classic, operatic vibes with clearer diction. It felt very Judy Garland-esque and of that time. It was so different for her, and I’m so curious to see what you think about it!
It’s definitely still in 2 parts. The second part is out the end of next year!
So happy that Jonathan Bailey is getting recognition! I used to watch him on Leonardo back in like 2011, so it's so cool that he's being recognised! ❤
I can’t stop being excited about the wicked movie, so many things remind me of it all the time and I start fangirling out of nowhere
But I'm optimistic!!
yes, their chemistry is KEY!
My cousin worked in the costume department for this film. I am so excited to see it!

Oh my gosh i was also worried about Ariana as glinda but i do think that she will be good!
The cinematography goes crazyyyy in this teaser 🤩
I can’t wait for Cynthia Erivo as Elpheba!!!
I agree, it really is strange that it doesn't say Wicked part 1 or anything like that. It does make me think that maybe it will only be one movie now.
it 100% will be 2 movies. this teaser was for the overall franchise and im assuming we will get another teaser that focused more on the first film closer to its release. it would be a 4+ hr film otherwise. my guess is that this teaser was to get the film on peoples minds since it was shown to the millions of people watching the super bowl.
nah its still 2 and my guess is they're splitting it at Defying Gravity that's probably where it will end I feel like it kind of makes sense cause Act 2 is WAAAAAY darker especially if they're bringing more of the book in
It will not.
We've been so spoiled with the number of videos you've been putting out recently 😍
The SpongeBob slander 😂😂😂 I’m here for it because I went to high school with Arianna’s ex husband !
omg really?
Her ex husband is SpongeBob?
OH MY GOD GLINDA. YOU CANT JUST ASK PEOPLE WHY THEY'RE GREEN.
i know that two parts may seem annoying but i feel like it's for the better (or should i say for good sorry i couldn't help myself) because to me this means that the people creating this care so much about this story and making sure nothing gets lost because it is built so beautifully and if two parts means it will be better translated to screen then im more than okay with it because we have seen too many musicals messily put up on a screen and ended up in the dumps
I screamed during the Super Bowl when this came on. SO EXCITED!!
Grrraaahhh! I love wicked ever since I saw it. The actors were beautiful, and the production looked so thought about. The movie looks, actually better than other productions made into movies. I cannot wait to see this.
I totally forgot that Ariana Grande was first an actress before she was an artist, I was like "Ariana? Is she a good actress?"
Everyone let out in applause when the credit started rolling ahhh.
about ariana’s voice: i understand the fear that bc she’s a pop star she only sings a certain way but if you’ve paid attention to her over the years you would know she has an incredible vocal agility (as shown by her amazing celebrity impressions) and a role like this is not something she took lightly. she took acting and vocal lessons just for this. we know that in the past she CHOOSES to sing musical theatre in her more stylized/pop voice, but when it comes to doing it right she CAN and that’s all that matters (:
exactly that
U get it
As a fan of Ariana since the days of '13' and singing karaoke covers on her bedroom floor, I have no doubt she'll nail this role. I'm so excited that she was cast as Galinda! ❤🎉❤
I.... Omfg.... No her yell at the end literally actually made me cry, I'm shaking, I am beyond excited
I have those same glasses but in gold. I was excited when I saw those in the trailer!
It looks STUNNING
We missed you, Hannah!! 💕

Wicked is the only show I have ever been able to see a production of. I saw the Broadway Across America version at the Boston Opera House when I was in seventh grade with my afterschool program and I cried like a baby. I knew most of the music because I was a huge theater nerd but it was one of the most magical moments of my childhood. so excited for the movie! THIS is why you bring broadway people on for musicals and not try to reinvent the wheel like so many musical movies were weirdly trying to do (like absolutely murdering Les mis on film - and ALSO hacking up Into the Woods).

True.
Looking forward to your movie review when you see it. Should do a more recent review of the full length trailer!!!
Anyone else feel that?
a lot of people audition for glinda, the potential and dedication that ariana has for that role played a huge part on getting to where she is now, if they wanted a big name for the movie the way they should’ve done it was by elphaba, by the teasers (and leaked bts) i agree that ariana will DEVOUR that role, it’s just a matter of time to see it.
there is another Glinda dress, that is a mix of glimmery purple and blue, kinda like the reflection of a bubble.
Something within me just doesn't agree with Ariana's eyebrow color... is it only me? 😅
No your not alone, they should be a little darker/ not that much bleached
you’ve been feeding us so good this past week!!!
Not too much just a little more as I don’t think the stage musical really hammers home how awful the wizard really is as much
Shout out for slime tutorials, giving us broke folks a peek into musical theater we couldn't otherwise dream of seeing
Just no.

I personally agree! It threw me off. It's such a beautiful song ending, needed no riffing or adaptation. But I will survive 😂
I absolutely felt the same, and it really threw me.
