The full trailer for Wicked has dropped ahead of its release in theaters this November. Based on the incredibly successful Broadway musical, the story focuses on the lives of Elphaba and Galinda as they become friends at Shiz University and begin a journey that will take them all the way to the Emerald city, and along the way, turn them into the characters we know as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz. Jessica Clemons breaks down this trailer frame-by-frame to point out all the hidden details and incredible production design that connect this movie to the musical, the 1939 film, and the original story by L. Frank Baum.

2:02 Tiny correction: The book is called “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.” Or just “Wicked” for short. The “life and times” part is usually left off.
I highly recommend it. It’s very different than the musical. I love them both, but I do like the book more. It’s much darker and covers a lot more “adult” themes.
The book is brilliant with lots of fascinating subtext.
The book is one of like 5 or so in a set. Would recommend start to finish

Love that you can see some blue clothing, flags, and buildings in Munchkin Country . That's is something right out of the original " Wonderful Wizard of Oz" novel. Where all the major lands in Oz are color coded. Munchkin Country being blue, Quadling Country is red, Gillikin Country is purple, and Winkie Country is yellow. That is also the reason why the Yellow brick road is yellow. Its a road from Munchkin Country to Winkie County/w the Emerald City being at the center. Meaning yes; the Red Brick Road leads to Quadling Country being the home land of Glinda the Good Witch of the South!
Some scenes were filmed in my hometown in England and it was top secret what was being filmed. Ariana was in my home town and no one knew. Everyone was told it was a Bbc drama being filmed.

The Oscars for this movie should have idina and Kristen in costume with the lift and for good
the goat really stuck out to me cuz a whole part of his story is that him (and other humanoid animals) are slowly becoming less human and more animalistic. it's part of the mystery of what's happening in Oz that i'd say is a big part of the story. Really interested to see how they do it in this movie.
in the book, they're all regular animals, they're just losing their power of speech
They'll probably have him be without clothes or his glasses in a cage when elphaba rediscovers him in act 2

In the book it's said over and over that the only way to tell apart regular animals from the intelligent Animals is by speaking to them. So I am SO glad they didn't make Dr Dillamond anthropomorphic. It's an important theme of accessibility

It makes sense that Dr Dillamond would be a full goat because he's an Animal and they're supposed to look the same as animals, the only difference being Animals have the ability to speak
Literally came here to say that 😂 the musical has to cut a lot of awesome things from the books and this is one of them: The Plight and Segregation of the Animals.
Them sparring in the Shiz combat PE class is a set-up to them sparring in Act 2, specifically the screenshot shown at 5:58.

This isn't base on the movie , it is based on the novel "Wicked" by Gregory Maguire, which the musical is loosely based on.

An original illustration for the book, back in like 1900 had Glinda in a pink dress so its all from the book
I am in love with the trailer. I have only been able to see the musical twice but it has a special piece of my heart more than any other. I simply cannot wait to see this movie. I was not happy initially with the casting but now seeing the trailer I am thrilled. November cannot come soon enough. I only wish I could see both parts right away .

OK, once more- you mentioned the book, then get to Dr Dillamond. HE WAS A GOAT. In the book, the ONLY distinction between Animals and animals was speech. So, in a musical where costume changes have to be fast, it makes sense to have a human hybrid. That's NOT the case in the book, which the film seems to be going back to, which i applaud. The stuff that made the book relevant and deep was mostly jettisoned for the musical or made into throaway laines.

Love the book, liked the musical (I've seen it way too many times since I usher at a theater) and I am looking forward to the movie. However, I am not too happy with Ariana Grande. I wish the movie would have been made a long time ago with Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth.
