I surprised my wife with a PALLET WOOD BEDROOM!

- I made a pallet wood bedroom for my wife, and you’re welcome to follow along in the video. I made a herringbone headboard from pallet wood, a shelf from pallet wood and a side table from a cherry log.
The video i mention in the beginning about my epoxy resin mistakes is right here: • How I Turned a Rotten ...
Notes about the video:
I refer to my wife as “my boss” because my wife traditionally makes the most design decisions in our house. The new thing is me making stuff for the house and also having an opinion, but trust me, she’s still the boss if the thing is going into the house.
My wife was away most of the time I renovated the bedroom and was pretty (positively) surprised when she came back and saw it. She didn’t want to be a part of the video, so you’ll have to imagine her reaction. IRL it wasn't monday-friday in a row, but I dramatized the story a bit to fit into a video storyline. It was filmed during the summer in Denmark, and we are so high north we have daylight (and even sunlight) most of the 24 hours of each day. Yes, our nights are just 3-4 hours long during the summer.
I quote a few lines from a Coldplay song called Fix You. The first line is “When you try your best, but you don’t succeed.” My kids used to sing that line when me and my wife were discussing something, and it was obvious that I didn’t get my way, or when I tried to fix something in the house and failed. We laughed a lot about it, so it’s just stuck in my head.
I tried out some different Rubio Monocoat products in the video with very little success. I would like to point out that I’m a big fan of Rubios products, especially their Oil + 2C PURE, that’s a fantastic finish for tables, floors, furniture, all things woody. Their staining products are probably more difficult to use and get a good result with, so far I’m only good friends with the Walnut oil + 2C.
I had some other makers say and do stuff in this video. They are not being mean in any way, all that’s being said and done in this video is written and edited by me.
Thank you so much for the participation in this video:

I was just about to start piling pallets up, but then my wife gave me all the build projects and now there's not a single pallet in sight when you drive to our house. Thanks man
Bravest man in the world! Design a new bedroom piece without written permission from the boss
Exactly! You've got to be prepared that your week of work will be tossed out in 10 secs.. 😬
I'm sure the boss loved it lol
Then if the boss doesn’t like it // tell the boss well I guess you can do better?!? Lol

How did she like it?
😂
Bravo sir Bravo. Give this brave man a round of applause!!!
Came out amazing.
He said "My Wife... Uhh .. My Boss " 😂
🤓😂
@@JesperMakes super amazing job sir I bet the boss was happy with your work.
Bloody brilliant mate! Well done 👍👍 12 out of 10 for perseverance.....you're a better man than l 🙌 The end product.....despite the setbacks turned out fantastic....hope the Minister for Home Affairs was happy 🤞🤞Cheers mate 🇦🇺😁👍
It was definitely a learning process - thank you so much for always saying yes to even the craziest of my stupid ideas 😱 and yes the boss of the house was happy, and the bedroom is now her favorite room in the house 🤓 yay! Sadly she's also a bit strict on what goes online (as everybody should be) so I couldn't use her reaction in the video. Thanks again Shane. Cheers
@@JesperMakes My pleasure mate 👍👍
Your editing, your videos as a whole are genuine, funny, educational and super inspiring. I look forward to each of them :)
Wow, thank you!
@@JesperMakes no thank you for your timr and effort :) much love from australia!
This was worth every second watching! great story telling! Head board looks amazing!
Thanks! I'm going to try and build the ladder you show on your channel trailer, looks awesome. Cheers from Denmark
your sense of humor makes the video even more enjoyable!
Thanks Jan! 🙃
I like your sense of humour. I also appreciate your used if recycled products.
Hey! big thanks! Keeping it light and doing a bit for our planet is what it's all about, right? 😄 Got any recycled projects of your own? Would love to hear about them! #CoffeeSolvesEverything
@@JesperMakes if only I drank coffee. I use as much vintage and recycled as I can. We used pallets for compost bins and making cold frames for gardening. Growing our own food has started. Maybe we need to make a potting bench out of pallets? I use heat treated pallets. No chemicals.
That sounds fantastic! Using pallets for compost bins and cold frames is a smart and sustainable choice; it really aligns with the spirit of recycling and repurposing that I love to showcase in my projects.
Starting a garden and growing your own food is a huge step in the right direction - not just for sustainability but also for enjoying fresh, homegrown produce; it's a win-win!
A potting bench made from heat-treated pallets sounds like a brilliant idea, it would indeed make a great addition to your gardening setup. It's a solid choice to go for heat-treated pallets to avoid those chemicals.
I'd love to see how a pallet potting bench would turn out; it sounds like a fantastic project that could bring a lot of functionality and character to your space. Remember, every little step counts, and it sounds like you're on a great path with your sustainable practices. Keep it up! And hey, who needs coffee when you have fresh veggies, right? 😄 Keep me posted on how it turns out!
Hello Jesper,
The most important thing is this: I admire the technique of making videos. Super edited video. Inspiring and impressive. It's a nice video that can be watched without missing the continuity. A beautiful bed from old pallet boards. Very nice on authentic side tables. It's a very good project. A wonderful surprise for your wife. Coloring and polishing created a great image. Congratulations on the rapid rise in your channel. This is great progress. It's impressive that you included our mutual friends in the video. I'm glad you watched this beautiful video. All the best. Big greetings. Your friend Mehmet
Cheers mate.
Hi Mehmet, thank you for this nice comment. I am very lucky to be part of a global woodworking community, where I can always get help and support, and that was the only thing that got me to where I am today. The best part of it all is working together with other makers in their or in my videos, and there are so many things I want to do with so many good people all over the world. I am still amazed by the creativity on your channel, and you are also seeing a good growth-rate which is a healthy sign for a channel. Take care and keep building. Jesper

Brilliant video! 🙃 Not afraid to share your mistakes and teach others. Very ingenious design. Keep going and best of luck 👍
Thanks so much! 😊
Looks fantastic - do like the fact you keep your mistakes (i.e. the finish choices) in as it shows that even when things go wrong, they can be fixed.
But the biggest question - did the boss like it?
Hi John - yeah the boss was happy, I was unfortunately not allowed to show her jaw dropping to the floor on video, but it's now her favorite room in the house - yay! Cheers and thanks for watching. Jesper
Great work Jasper, hope the boss liked it.
She did, absolutely! Thanks for watching mate. Appreciate it.
I have subscribed to your channel not just because you ask but because of your work and humor sense thank you for sharing is beautiful
Awesome, thank you!

I hope she loved it! It’s beautiful 😍
She did, thanks 🙏
Nawww cuuute you knew she liked a certain pattern and thought of that!!! Magic.
Unavoidable 😂
Did she like it??????? The intrigue is killing me!!!!!!! Excellent video and surprise, your boss surely loves you a lot!!! 👏👏👏
Hi - yeah the boss was happy, I was unfortunately not allowed to show her jaw dropping to the floor on video, but it's now her favorite room in the house - yay! Cheers and thanks for watching. Jesper
@@JesperMakes my pleasure! Thank you for sharing and congrats again on a great job!!! 😊
Pretty awesome story man. Hope it gets better for you and you get to keep making videos for us. Cheers from Texas from another fellow woodworker.
Thanks, will do!
You've inspired me to make a small keepsake box using a herringbone pattern for the lid. I likely won't do it well (I've completed a total of 1 woodworking project in my live, a small pine box), but I want to try it!
Thank you!
Go for it!
Yeah I like this guy alot!!! He is fun and creative. Seems like he is building stuff with almost no money and it looks just amayzing...
Yeah I like this guy too 🤣🤣🤣 thanks Aidas, take care
Genuis idea, love the green thumb of reusing those wood leftover
Always a good rule of thumb!
Love the experimental work and as always it turned out great.
Thank you so much 😊 Karl. Had a bit of trouble with this one, but @turgworks says my Rubio trouble is just that Rubio stains looks awful on softwoods like some of the pallet wood in this project.
Come on now!! You are outrageously creative, clever, and funny. I’m in love with the furniture you make and your video editing skills are fantastic.
I keep having to rewind to read your pop up comments cause they go by so fast, also, You have some super fun fast cuts of your finished design, but your work is so amazing and Id love to be able to get a solid view of it at the end of your video. You obviously know what you are doing though, just thought I’d share my thoughts
Hi Kelly, thanks for your kind comment. I do sometimes get comments about the fast-paced ending cuts, and you're right, as soon as the finished product comes on screen people are leaving the video, so I always make the ending pretty short, leaving people to have to pause the video or play it half speed (that's a UA-cam option) if they want to extend it. The result is the retention goes up in the end of the video insted of dropping, and that's helping the video to spread to more people, so thank you, you're really helping the video on UA-cam. Cheers, Jesper
@@JesperMakes sneaky genius trick!
Hope your "boss" gave you a raise. Well done!
Ha, the "boss" is still contemplating that raise! How would you surprise your significant other with a project?
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Also,
I love your choices for music in every video you’ve done
Thanks Cole, take care 😁
Just found your channel and this is brilliant! Excellent craftmanship, awesome editing and lovely storytelling/humor! And I can't even imagine how much extra time you spent on moving the camera around to get all those angles 😅 You sir, have a new Scandinavian subscriber!
Awesome, thank you! Where are you from? Yeah moving the camera is about the same amount of work as moving tools around for the project 😬
@@JesperMakes Haha yup, but it all about the angles! 😅 I'm a swedish half-finn living just outside of Oslo 🙂
You made this video both entertaining and informative. 2 👍👍 from me ☺️
Thank you so much John 😁 that's the first time I get a double thumps up!
This is just to good for only 44k subscribers.. You're going to be in the millions very soon.. just don't change... You're perfect!
Thanks my friend, I'm glad you like it, and I'm not going to change anything, don't worry 🤓
Dude! You’re hilarious!!
Great work. Appreciate the transparency.
Thanks 🙏
It's amazing how a hiccup can turn into something amazing in the end. That's called compromise and improvise. Hope the boss enjoyed, as I think that color was perfect👌
Hi Matt - yeah the boss was happy, I was unfortunately not allowed to show her jaw dropping to the floor on video, but it's now her favorite room in the house - yay! Cheers and thanks for watching. Jesper
I love how you call her your boss 😄
Beautiful work on the woodwork and the video!! Very entertaining and inspiring ✌️♥️

Your humor brightens my day. Your creations inspire me. Your patience is legendary
Wow, thank you!
You did an amazing job on the project! 😆 Thank you for sharing all the ups and downs. I also liked the musical selection and your rhythmic hammering. 😂🔥 But when you said a dark color I was thinking of the color that you came up with on the third try. 😂 Your boss is definitely lucky to have such an awesome employee. 💛 Subscribed 💛
Thanks and l still have a job 🤠
That was really great 👍 I do wish the end would give more of a chance to see the whole bedroom finished project. It jumped around so fast, plus there's always a Next Video popup blocking the middle of the screen. So, maybe a slower, detailed pan would help at the very end.
Thanks, I will try to do that. You could play the video at 0.5 speed in the end for now. Thanks for your suggestion Campy.
A trick to seeing the video ending without the next video popups is to add a dash in the url between the t and the u (ie, yout-ube)
@@pistachoo. Or just use Enhancer for UA-cam browser extension to remove them all permanently. ;)
@@-_James_- ooooh? I'm not familiar with that one!

brilliant work Jesper
thanks man!!
it is a complete joy to watch your videos. Thank you very much for your humour and great talent. Keep it up!

Only saw this video now. I am subscribed but did not notice this one. To get the best old wood look, put steel wool in clear vinegar for a couple of days. You can keep it for months. It instantly colours the wood a beautiful Grey colour. Try it. It's one of the only aging technique I use on my projects
It's a good technique, I have used it s lot previously.
I love the mishaps you overcome. You are brilliantly honest about when things go wrong which is somehow comforting. Your approach to editing also contributes hugely to the entertainment value. Look forward to more content.
Thank you so much!
It turned out absolutely beautiful, it really baffles me what you can make with just old pallets!
Yeah it's amazing.

Oh maaaaan that final color of finish looked amazing! You’re the man Jesper, thanks for sharing your great content!
Thanks, it took some experimentation on this one. Yes I could have used a test piece, but I somehow didn't. I could have left it out of the video and not embarrassed myself. I forgot that too 😂😂
