    Seregios is based on the concept of a rivaling royalty, hence his rivalry with the Rath’s. He could be based on the stymphalian birds, birds that have arrows for feathers, but that’s a Greek myth so it would be weird if this was the case
    Astalos is based on the rebellion of royalty, hence why he actively goes for Rathalos despite being smaller and technically weaker. The thunderbird is an interesting comparison, but considering it’s a Native American monster, not a western Yokai, it would be weird

    All we need now is a Griffen monster. Just use the Kushala frame, add a beak, put a bunch of feathers and lion fur and "boom" Griffen Elder Dragon.

      Depends on whether Capcom considers a Griffon close to an actual god like entity on whether it would be an Elder Dragon or not. With that said, it's always possible!
      As for the Akhlut, it's still a viable entity for Capcom to use for inspiration. The whole concept of "Western Folklore/Mythology" simply means anything outside of Japan at this point since base Rise was solely focused on Japanese Folklore/Myths

      We already have a Griffen monster though, two of them in fact.
      If you look closely, both Velkhana and Malzeno have hints of Griffen in their designs, supported by their royal titles as the "Silver Sovereign" and the "Silver baron", Griffens are very related to royalty after all.

    I think that Magma Almudron may be inspired also by the Wanyudo.
    Wanyudos are wheels on fire that have the face of a dead Daimyo or monk in the center (and Almudron already is compared to a monk, such as being call the Heremit) and it's well, on fire.
    Also the wheel part might be refenced by either the mud ball (or lava in this case I guess) or that it does seem to gain many spinning and rolling moves (spinning like a wheel) as well as being faster.
    Either that or the Omukade, since it's a big centipede with traits of a dragon (and Almudron is based upon asian dragons) whose skin cannot be pierced unless corroded by saliva (wich would rapresent the Lava Armor it seems to have) and in pop culture is other shown with fire elements (think of the Pokémon Centiscorch, he's based upon it)
    Though I think the latter is more of a stretch.
    Also I think that Rise's subs all keep the Yokai inspirations rather than having european ones mostly because of BoB: what could BoB's folklore inspirations if not a Daitengu.

    • @prehistoricfanboy101
      @prehistoricfanboy101 2 роки тому +1

      Again, fair point. Though now I’m wondering if they’ll actually continue with the base game’s cutscene dialogue for all the subspecies. However, they seem to be using a new style as seen with Lunagaron and Malzeno, so I’m still skeptical whether they’ll keep Rise’s Noh / poet-like style or not.

      I'd say Blood Orange Bishaten is inspired by mythological Ravens and along with the Phoenix for its fire elements. Ravens are portrayed in many ways throughout different cultural mythos, but they often land on common grounds with Ravens being tied to Prophecies, Insight and intelligence but they have a very unpredictable nature depending on what mythos you're looking into (similar to Blood Orange Bishaten's unpredictable behaviour). As for the fire powers being tied to a phoenix, it's pretty self explanatory but it can also mean that this Subspecies is considered as the "rebirth" of the standard monster. Plus we can see it's a mixture of Raven Black coloration combined with fiery reds yellows and oranges which are usually used to portray a phoenix. So I'd say those are two possible mythos outside Japanese Yokai that Capcom used for BoB. The Tengu motif doesn't really change since it's a Tengu inspired monster originally

    • @ChronoPinoyX
      @ChronoPinoyX  2 роки тому

      Many of the subspecies can be easily tied to other forms of yokai that's true, but they are most definitely not just Japanese yokai by design. With how Sunbreak is being shaped, Capcom's design also applies to the monsters in that they're meant to feel foreign, including the Subspecies. So most likely, they've taken western mythos into consideration when designing them for the expansion

    Completally not relative, but if you noticed they're doing the "one new returning apex-tier announcement for every map" again like how they did in Iceborne:
    Shogun Ceanataur for the Flooded Forest
    Astalos for the Shrine Ruins
    Seregios for the Sandy Plains
    In Iceborne it was:
    Nargacuga for the Ancient Forest
    Tigrex for the Rotten Vale
    Glavenus for the Wildspire Waste
    Brachydios for the Elder Recess
    Zinogre for the Coral Highlands
    Also hold and behold we still have another new event this june and (presumably) a little trailer before release like Iceborne's Zinogre's trailer and base Rise Nargacuga's so we're (probably) still missing two announcements.

    Aw man, I can already tell from the beginning that I’m gonna be brought up again! But hey, no need to thank me for that speculative info ;)
    Also, the Thunderbird is Native American, right? So that just breaks the convention if it’s really the creature of which Astalos is portraying. The Thor inspiration is still the more likely one and I’ll somewhat explain why.
    You see, back in the Monster Hunter Spotlight, Ichinose (director of base Rise) stated that Tigrex was brought back to portray the Yamabiko, which has no physical resemblance to Tigrex whatsoever. The only thing (at least that I know of) that the two have in common and thus explains how the latter portrays the former is their gimmick of making deafening roars across mountains.
    Going back to Astalos and Thor, they don’t exactly have anything alike in terms of physiology. BUT, both of them do possess lightning abilities and are quite powerful in physical combat. Hence it’s likely that Thor is what they were going for when giving Astalos something to portray as.

    • @ChronoPinoyX
      @ChronoPinoyX  2 роки тому +1

      The only reason I went back on the Thor comparison is actually because of what I've noticed regarding Capcom's approach to monster designs. With Malzeno's design, along with what the Elder Dragons represented in base Rise, it seems that God/Deities in mythology are exclusively Elder Dragons and other creatures are inspired by something which is supernatural but not considered to be a form of God.
      Thunderbirds are considered powerful and supernatural but from what I remember, they're not considered to be gods or deities, hence why it was a closer comparison to Astalos. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if Thor is the inspiration for Astalos in Sunbreak!

      @@ChronoPinoyX Malzeno is based on vampires though, not any particular deity. Y’know, unless you consider vampires as deities, which they are not.

    • @ChronoPinoyX
      @ChronoPinoyX  2 роки тому

      @@prehistoricfanboy101 It's less of considering Vampires as deities, it's more to do with how they are presented in terms of powers beyond what most would consider natural. What Capcom are portraying with Malzeno in terms of its vampire characteristics seem to be elements taken from both historic folklore and modern interpretations of Vampires, with Dracula from series such as Castlevania being prominent. Lots of people compare Malzeno to Castlevania's Dracula and I don't think Capcom did that by accident after what they stated on the latest Digital event on how they designed Malzeno. Once we get the intros for Sunbreak, it will definitely give us more of an idea on the identities of the monsters to give us a better understanding on the folklore!

    I think Astalos is more likely based on thor than the Thunderbird.
    That is because before showing its body they zoom at its tail that gets covered in Lighting.
    Thor is usually depicted with a weapon (a spear?? I don't remember because I don't really care much for Viking Mithos and I don't really want to check now) so maybe the zoom on the tail is meant to resemble the weapon.
    I would also like to say that the Thunderbird is not european so it wouldn't fit... But they used Frankenstein as a Folk Monster even though it's from a novel and not a myth so they already have a wide definition of folklore inspirations (also considering that the Ramsoware leak called them "western yokai" and not "european yokai" kind of cements it... Also western yokai is a pretty weird eay of putting it, but I can see what they meant with that... Even though they didn't really followed it because if Frankenstein and Thor would have been Japanese, they wouldn't be yokais anyway)

    • @ChronoPinoyX
      @ChronoPinoyX  2 роки тому

      As far as I've been aware, Capcom haven't stated they were focusing on "European" folklore in any capacity. The idea behind Sunbreak was mostly to focus on a foreign region as opposed to straight up focusing on Europe. With that said, I could always be wrong in this regard!

    one more possible inspiration for Magma Almudron - and the one i believe to be the main inspiration - is Futs-Lung (or Fuzanglong), from Chinese mythology.
    Futs-Lung is a dragon of the underworld and the "dragon of hidden treasures": he lives underground where he guards a vast amount of treasure; his most prized possession is a Pearl of Wisdom (the prized possession of ANY Chinese dragon, really) which he hides under his chin.
    it is said that when Futs-Lung bursts from the ground to return/report to Heaven, volcanoes form.
    Magma Almudron looks like a Chinese dragon, he's associated with fire, he burrows/lives underground, he goes very high into the air when he leaps from under the ground - as if he were flying almost (pretty sure he sends magma flying when he does that) and he's a creature of fire.
    in my eyes, Magma Almudron is based primarily on Futs-Lung and you cannot change my mind!
    some of the information i've read on Wikipedia, most of it comes from the book "dragons, fearsome monsters from myth and fiction".
    look up "Amber Books Futs-Lung", you'll be able to read what i've read.

    • @ChronoPinoyX
      @ChronoPinoyX  2 роки тому

      The monsters themselves don't have to match the actual mythos which they may be based on. Capcom merely uses them as foundations to base their monsters in. Almudron, for example, isn't based on any kind of dragons or reptiles, it's based on a literal mud human in Japanese folklore. So whilst Astalos is mostly based on an insectoid creature, its features are reminiscent to an avian creature such as the Thunderbird. Hopefully that helps clear it out!
