we've seen a gammoth baby though, the tiny gammoth event quest. they never specified how much their body's appearance changes as they grow apart from size lol
We really need more herbivore monsters. Like a moose, or hippo, or ankylosaurus. So many possibilities. Not everything needs to be a dragon or theropod.
Moose is shown in Anteka and Banbaro, Apceros is based on Ankylosaurs, and Slagtoth are loosely based on hippos even though they look like a mix of a hippo, capybara, and manatee and act like the latter but with the aggression of a hippo
My main problem with something like Ankylosaurus or Stegosaurus being MonsterHunter-ified is that so many monsters already have maces or spikes on the tail that I'm not sure these creatures have the ability to stand out in any relevant way
There’s just something so respect-demanding about the real giant herbivores of our world. Without even knowing much about them, seeing a physical bison, moose, elephant, etc creates an innate sense of awe and understanding of said creatures being a threat by size alone. Same can be understood of the sauropods by skeleton alone. Gammoth deserves to create those feelings.
A bull Gammoth in musth as a variant would be such a sick fight and easily one of the toughest monsters in the series if done PROPERLY It would be the perfect inverse of Black Diablos
Diablos crossed my mind when he mentioned Gammoth being the largest herbivore. Bull Gammoth would be fantastic! Male herbivores in rut are extremely dangerous and would be a great contrast to Black Blos! Capcom needs to see this lol
Okay so about Gammoth's wierd colorful fur pattern. With the shape of her body with it getting more narrow and lower to the ground as you move towards her back legs, it kind of makes the shape of a big dragon head. Along with the giant white and black spot near her shoulders it sort of resembles an eye to me. So my thinking is that the bright fur pattern might be a left over thing from when Gammoths were still smaller more elephant sized mammals, and that the fur pattern in a blizzard or even just a flurry could mistake a predator that Gammoth is actually a much larger animal.
Honestly she could’ve worked in Iceborne if she was bound to say the forest area of the Hoarfrost, completely levelled the area, turning it into a flat arena, and chucked the debris at you. With every stomp she could create unstable ground kind of like Shara to prevent you from camping
The queen herself. I remember commented ages ago about wanting a video on her, and after so long she's the one to close out the Fated Four. Gammoth's rivalry always felt the most natural out of them all. Tigrex is designed to feel like this ancient predator, literally having T-Rex inspirations. And so what better to have as a rival than a gigantic, ancient herbivore based off Mammoths? It's aesthetically and thematically just so right. And the in the intro, the part where she just throws Tigrex off her face always felt just so powerful and raw. We can only hope for her return. Her and Lagiacrus being the only flagships to miss 5th gen, with both of their absences being really pronounced with Lagi's cut from the original World beta, and the fact Gammoth was the only one of the 4 left out, ideally that notability helps them get top billing and care for the next game.
This might be a weird idea, but could you do a video on ENDEMIC LIFE, I'd personally be really interested to hear your thoughts on some of the smaller critters of the MH world.
Honestly an idea I had for Gammoth to got get cheese from behind was to use her nose vacuume move to pull those hunters from behind her to be underperformed for crushing or towards the trunk for a grab and throw or to go under the front legs for a kick or stomp. The nose suck is already in the actual move set so why not use its properties to force hunters out of ideal positioning
On the topic of a Gammoth hunt, her huge size and slow speed could possible be a decent fit for a siege hunt similar to Kulve Taroth or Raging Brachydios. With a map that is simultaneously designed to be a normal cold map, like the Frost Islands, and somewhat of a siege map where she takes one of X amount of paths to a specific location only she can open up due to her THICCness (like how originally only Deviljho could break into the secret areas in the Tundra map), where she basically becomes Elderfrost (much like how Raging Brachydios when nuclear in the final area) but WAY better. As the fight goes on, she does get more moves and becomes either faster or can combo/link more attacks together in ways that can catch players off guard. She could also have unique ways of interacting with the environment, maybe taking cues from Banbaro and his boulder/tree shenanigans or causing quakes that result in changing the shape of the area, things falling from the ceiling, small avalanches from the sides of the area.
Mizu being a soapy rat was a smirk I really needed today. Excellent stuff, I am now a new Gammoth fan. Here's hoping she returns soon to crush hunters and other monsters into thin grey paste soon! Though a death-rage male gammoth put true terror in my heart, even with black diablos already extant.
With the return of the rest of the Fated Four in 5th gen I'm excited to see if she'll return and get a modern makeover in 6th gen. She's my least favorite of the four but still oneof my more liked monsters which speaks to the collective quality of the four.
I'd love to see more Fanged Beasts resembling prehistoric elephants in warmer climates inspired by species like Deinotherium or Platybelodon, for example. I could also see a Fanged Beast inspired by Paraceratherium that could interact with such monsters since (as far as I can tell) they likely went extinct due to indirect competition with prehistoric elephants. Overall, elephant monsters definitely have a lot of potential with Monster Hunter.
I like the sauropod mass extinction theory as it describes why you end up having things like Duramboros and Gammoth. It's essentially two lineages (Brute Wyverns and Fanged Beasts) staking their claims on the giant megafaunal herbivore niche
I'm a fiver and this is probably one of the monsters I'm most disappointed to miss out on. I absolutely love the concept and I sincerely hope Capcom takes another shot at this beautiful giant.
I have never clicked on a notification faster I have been WAITING for this day to come Gammoth my baby Edit: truth be told, I’d always assumed Gammoth’s trunk spines were both for self-defense and a pseudo-second lip for their trunk, given their curved shape would allow for somewhat better grip than the flat trunk that would otherwise exist without them Edit 2: I’ve always assumed that the interactions between Gammoth and Barioth are more undocumented than anything else, given the season and time of year in which we enter the mountains. It’s also entirely possible that Barioth hunts the calves and younger Gammoth exclusively, and leaves the adults alone entirely Edit 3: Good lord Gammoth Musth is a terrifying idea, although I think that elderfrost individuals, being simply said that it’s an old matriarch, could be either sex of Gammoth…although now I’m thinking of Elderfrost Musth and uh my god wtf nope Edit 4: Gammoth would be a great candidate for a world-style rework, and to me personally that Gammoth is the poster child for “Capcom treats their herbivores like jokes” Edit 5: on rewatch (again), there’s a couple things I noted: One) your mention of “exceptionally hungry predators” being the only ones often brazen enough to go after Gammoth and other such protectors leads me to believe that Deviljho and Gammoth might have Some sort of hostile relationship, although given the scarcity of both its unlikely that the Guild has documented it
@@oygemprime3864 I get where you’re coming from, but my point with that is that it’s possible that Gammoth bulls can become the EQUIVALENT of Elderfrost individuals, although they most likely wouldn’t be called Elderfrost
Gammoth in iceborne would have been perfect. Not just thematically, but also because they could have shown of her intellegence by having her interact with the enviorment. Like imagen her spraying water onto the ceilling in the underground large cave, to cause ice to fall on the player or making giant snowball in the deep snow area or causing tremours on the frozen lake or using a tree from the first zone as a club.
The Fated Four is complete! One thing you mentioned in the creature design video is Gammoth's color scheme. Even with the suggestion of intraspecific communication, I feel Gammoth could easily accomplish that with more muted browns and whites that don't feel so out of place in such snowy environments. The color scheme as of now, I definitely agree fits better on something like the Blos wyverns. Also, I noticed a distinct lack of mention of Elderfrost Gammoth. Thoughts on her?
Improves the fight but not really by enough. She's fine as one of the less extreme deviants overall. I'm glad she's not doing bloodbath-esque leaps everywhere. Yeah, gammoth's coat could mean a lot of things but I do think she'd look better a bit less bright too.
7:11 "Barely the size of a rhino, if that." *"the size of a rhino"* If that's the case, then I think I greatly underestimated how large adults are if that size chart is anything to go by.
Another banger of a video. Gammoth is easily my favorite of the Fated Four and a contender for favorite flagship if all FF members count as flagships. The deep dive here was amazing, and if MH ever goes open world I can EASILY see Gammoth being the star of the signature tundra biome. Seeing this hulking figure from miles away, slowly trotting across the plains, or seeing the tops of trees sway as she pushes her way through a polar forest, would be a sight to see. The idea of male Gammoth making an appearance would truly be a sight to see, seeing the opposite sex of the FF appear along the same lines as Rathian and Rathalos do would be something else. I may try my hand at drawing a male Gammoth based on the description in this video. On the topic of summer though, how much of a visual difference do you reckon the MH team would go through with a summer coat vs a winter one? Would the bright colours still be present in the underlying lairs of fur or could that simply be something only present in winter coats for signaling in poor visibility? Also really excited for the next monster, Nibbelsnarf has so much potential for ecology and interaction with other desert specialists.
The idea of a different coat for a summer season gammoth is interesting. It could just be all blue / slate coloured if the red is only present in the guard hair, as well as being much closer cropped.
I'm kinda surprised you didn't comment on the fact that gammoth tusks protrude from the lower jaw, instead of the upper jaw like real world elephants. Edit 1: But I could not be any happier to hear someone finally say how ridiculous it is that she's a weak monster, when she full on looks like she should be the strongest apex in the whole series. Edit 2: in the replies I elaborate on why this question might be more interesting than one would initially think
@@delmerputnam1679 the thing that gets me the most about it is that it's a seemingly small difference that was probably added to give the design some additional flare, but I feel like this change would have a massive cascading effect on gammoth's use of it's tusks in drastic ways. The jaws would have to be ridiculously strong, not only to support the weight of such massive tusks, but to also withstand all the stresses they're going to be under in their day to day use. If they protruded from the upper jaw this issue would be mitigated because the connection between the neck and the head is by design meant to be rigid, whilst the jaws are meant to be a hinge that can move freely so it would be way worse at bearing stress, unless massively reinforced. And now all of this begs the question, what is the benefit of this seemingly worse tusk arrangement?
@@grantflippin7808 yeah but nearly all of them also had tusks on the upper jaw, which where probably the ones that were primarily put under stress. The only exception that I know of are dinotherium and the rest of it's family, but due to the curvature of their tusks, they're probably not the best analogue to gammoth.
Should be noted that upper mandible tusks are only a recent trend in proboscidians, while for the majority of their evolutionary history proboscidians had both upper and lower tusks. Some species, such as the deinotheres, only had tusks in the lower jaw.
She's my favorite of the Fated Four, a mammoth in MH seems like a nobrainer and somehow it took several years to have one, she really needs an update and adding a male variant when she returns is a must, they can simply swap the color palette where the male is primarily red with blue accents, and they can take inspiration from other proboscideans and do crazy stuff with their tusks, bigger, maybe even let the males have 4 like tetrabelodon, they also have the perfect reason for a quest, its an aggresive male in musth attacking nearby villages
i would like to see if theres a lore reason as to why most herbivores in monster hunter seem so unequipped to defend themselves from their predators. With the exception of gammoth, duramboros, diablos and a few others theres barely ny herbies, and the ones that exist seem like complete fodder, quite a shame
There's another video from Unnatural that goes into this, and one of the main points is that herbivores like Aptonoth are probably very prolific breeders; therefore, numbers are their principal defence. It's also worth remembering that certain stuff like the effectiveness of armour and body weaponry (Apceros' tail clubs, for example) is often sacrificed for the sake of smoother gameplay. Imagine if a single Aptonoth could tank your health with a tail swipe.
The thought of a Gammoth bull going into a murderous rampage via musth is absolutely terrifying. Especially if they are much larger than the already massive females.
you mentioning gammoths need for a dedicated map and use of environmental traps is really in line with my opinion that i think gammoth would work so well as a KT style siege monster. something like gammoth is rampaging causing avalanches and you have to repel it, or even just a simple jhen moran style festival hunt "gammoths back on the menu" etc etc
YAY, the Matriarch of Monster Hunter has her own video! You've got my respect :) I'm curious about Gwoemul (Fish Creature from 'The Host', a South Korean Sci-fi movie)
Mounting this monsters always a double edged blade because I felt like a mountain climber wrestling a living mountain but then I would be too cold to capitalize because getting the stagger and mount took so long with my weapons of choice.
Fantastic video, really loved the ideas on how to improve gammoth going forward. The immunity to avalanches, throwing trees, a male variant in musth, uppering her power, and great ideas that I really hope make it in an official game. Also incredibly excited for a gobul video, one of my favorites that i feel like gets forgotten a lot.
I'd love to see Gammoth be given the power she deserves when they bring her back, I think it might also be interesting to see if they do an elephant to Gammoth's mammoth, with little to no fur and living in a warmer area, either a grassland or desert map
It's worth pointing out, on the topic of tusk wear, that Gammoth's moveset in their fight is a brilliant demonstration of why it's tusks are so worn down. You can frequently see her grinding her tusks into the ground to smash you, and I particularly remember it driving its tusks _through_ the ground in a charging "uppercut" that sends snow and ice flying. That's another thing I'd like to call attention to. It's sort of a given since this is an elephantine creature, but we know it likes to use its environment in a fight since we can observe it using the snow around it for several different moves - lobbing snowballs like a mortar and the aforementioned snow charge. This gives credence to your idea for a future rendition of Gammoth swinging trees and triggering avalanches. It's certainly smart enough and willing to, if we stress one out enough.
One thing I love about Gammoth is that she’s not just a mighty herbivore monster but her size actually felt in a way few monsters are. She’s not bouncing and zooming around the arena, she’s both an unstoppable force and an immovable object. You can feel the weight and power in all of her movements. Even her lore and cutscene demonstrates that with her being unfazed by the Tigrex ambush and immediately slam dunks it into the snow, and is about to dish out an ass beating the likes of which no monster besides Rajang and elders have witnessed.
I'm really really worried that they are going to tone down Gammoth's size significantly, not only to make it an easier fight to design but also to just bring home the fact that Gammoth isn't as threatening as some other Monsters who have laser beams or explode. They seriously need to make Gammoth better but I feel like any concessions would drastically take away from what made Gammoth so special despite the issues with it. I've always been a fan of Monsters who are strong simply from size and strength, I don't want to lose another one.
Honestly I’m not too worried about them making adult Gammoth smaller (I have a feeling if they were willing to do that we’d seen it in Iceborne…same with Uklanos now thinking about it as well) but I am worried about making Gammoth standard Apex level despite the fact that it’s massive and very clearly dominates Tigrex in its intro cutscene. I do feel like at the very least they could make Gammoth a fair bit faster both to help fit the faster combat of at least the portable games while giving her more attacks to work with instead of the strong but slow ones she’s mostly associated with (although I do think those attacks can stay, maybe sped up a little bit)
Gammoth has been my all-time favorite monster, especially in Monster Hunter Stories 2! I look forward to the day it returns to a mainline Monster Hunter title, but like you said at the end of the video, it needs to be thought careful how it can be implemented into the game.
Awesome video!! I'm so happy you covered this monster! Gammoth and Barioth are some of my all time favorite monsters and I hope we see her in 6th gen as well as a bull Gammoth would be pretty cool.
Given the size of Gammoth, if they do bring it back in a new game, hopefully we get to see it have Turf Wars with other big monsters that could potentially give it a challenge, like Deviljho for example.
Amazing! This one is now surely one of my favorite videos from your channel alongside with Bazel, Barioth, Masters of Mud and Plant based Brutes. Brilliant work! You're the best!
Sweet a Nibelsnarf video next, at least im sure thats whose roar that was. Always had a soft spot for the guy since my first encounter with him in GU, even though it seems many people dont like him.
I really love the idea of a gammoth having a little herd of popos that she protects and leaves her child with, and also serves as a bit of a herd. It's such a cute concept.
Happy to finally see Gammoth! I've always quite loved her. Fun fact, she has a lot of inspirations from various Yokai too. She would've fit nicely in Rise. Hopefully some day I can get Gammoth and Goss Harag in the same game together! The best fanged beasts match up perfectly with each other.
It's a good day when UHC uploads. I also think we could do with more mammalian monsters, even if they're not particularly high-tier. Have some sneaky low-level who forages for eggs and only predates the smallest other monsters, and put him in them in place of the classic introductory bird-wyvern, and I'd be a happy man. I just love the idea of some badger-skunk-rat thing trying it's luck against a drome/great pack's nest when the big guy is away hunting.
It really confused me that they didn't bring Gammoth back in Iceborne. Hoarfrost Reach would have been a natural fit for it. And the only thing I can think of is there would probably be a bit of overlap with Banbaro.
Gammoth has my favorite theme for the fated four, and I´d love to see her in proper turf wars against other predators like Barioth or Glacial Agnaktor, and Deviljho could be used to show how strong Gammoth really is, maybe Deviljho grabbing one of her tusks, and getting thrown to the ground by the pretty obvious weight difference and how Gammoth skeleton is built, but since Capcom usually goes out of their way to make ´Jho look badass, it might end with a tie, also Rajang may come in handy to off strength.
Awesome video. I liked sniping the trunk with GS most. Trivializing fights is always really unsatisfying to me, so i tend to avoid those strategies the more i play. Also the armor looks so comfy
So glad to finally see Gammoth getting some time in the spotlight, she has always been my favourite member of the fated four and I have been quite annoyed at just how little love she has gotten from Capcom. Really like the explanation for Gammoth being covered in such a massive coat of fur (while the wyverns in the area completely lack that), how she cares for her young (and why that involves Popo herds), etc. All of it was absolutely fascinating.
If Monster Hunter was to ever go more simulatory rather than actiony I think the game could benefit from just sticking to one or two locales and fleshing out environments and monster interactions to the extreme like seeing Gammoth moving through avalanches, protecting her babies from a Tigrex, uprooting and using trees all in one game.
one thing i would like for them to do with Gammoth fight is seismic attacks like their physical strengh is so great that they create shock waves and changes in the terrain, with the males being so strong that they are at almost mythical levels power explaining why they are not hunted (maybe even creating a new ELDER category but for fanged beasts this time), as for a possible story how we could enter in a fight with a male i came up with this: there is a reason why killing a baby gammoth seems to be a taboo, is to no invoke the wrath of a male in retaliation, males maybe can protect the young directly but they can help the species by creating a safe zone with a lack of larger predators that would put their calfs and popos (that would also explaing how popos can be such wide spread species even tho they are hunted by everything) so when a male finds a freash killed gammoth calf they enter in a alarmed/rage state similar to a must where they are searching in a angry rampage for the threat within their safe zone, they can be smarth enough to reconize by the wounds on the copse what killed the calf if was a trigrex or hunters the story qould be , a foolish hunter breaks the taboo of hunting a gammoth calf for some reason this results in a adult male gammoth charging into the villager in a blind rage and we for the safety of the people have to put it down kinda dumb but i think would be cool
I really want a true mammal flagship monster. I dont care if they say Gammoth is "technically" a flagship, Glavenus is the one that gets the focus. Gammoth is great, if easy to fight, but I just really want to see what they would do with a monster that actually would be on the boxart.
i find it hilarious the strategy used against actual mammoths/elephants is the easiest way to kill a gammoth stand behind it and aim for the ankle tendons XD
if i remember correctly, gammoth is a slow burn leveler, where she really starts to gain a lot of points in the later lvls (70+ or 80+ range). Therefore she appears to be quite weak around lvl 40 to 50, when you usually get her or in pvp.
As a mammal & a Proboscid it wouldn't make sense for Gammoth to evolve its bright colors for intraspecific competition/communication since it's most likely colorblind or has impaired colored vision. Yes, Gammoths size would dissuade MOST predators such as Tigrex & Barioth but there are predators like Ukanlos & Elder Dragons that are even larger than Gammoth herself that can possibly even bring down a full-grown adult. My theory is Gammoth evolved its bright colors as a warning to giant reptilian predators such as Ukanlos, Deviljho & Elder Dragons with them being able to see the warning since reptiles are actually able to see those wavelengths.
The ideas you just threw around for a potential 6th or later gen reimagining are so cool. I also think that she should not only be a huge, fluffy, unstoppable force, but should also be an intelligent one. Modern day elephants are famous for their intelligence, and I think if that could be demonstrated with heavy tool use and manipulation of the environment. Throwing boulders at hunters out of its range, bashing the walls of caves to force icicles to fall from the ceiling, force avalanches of its own. The potential turf wars would be cool too, obviously shaking off psuedo wyverns like Tigrex and Barrioth, but also ramming down or using tools like boulders and trees against ground based monsters like Goss Harag, Zamtrios, or even Deviljho.
A video on one of my top 10 monsters!! Woo! I mean you have covered atleast 6 of them already and many of my top 50. Gonna have to watch it after work in 6 hours
I would love to see more large social herbivorous monsters in the series. Grazing monsters are always super low tier in these games and I wish that wasn't the case. I think a fantastic monster could be created based on the Cape Buffalo. Seeing a herbivorous beast slightly larger than Tigrex go head to head with it in a dance of death would be a KILLER intro. I think we need more high tier social animals too.
I think a territorial gammoth variant would make a great antagonist for at least one section of a monster hunter game. Perhaps it would be a black diabolos situation where it's just a regular gammoth going through a hormonal period. It would also be interesting twist on that idea as well: black diabolos is a hormonal female and black gammoth is a hormonal male. Having to plan around and escape from a gammoth that you're just not prepared for would be an interesting take on an antagonistic monster. I think it would make for a very tense, cat-and-mouse style story. And when you finally have the strength to fight it they could give the encounter a special battle theme to make it especially epic.
The point at the end about her size and power is so spot on. Aside from maybe velkhana and Savage ‘jho, nothing encountered in the tundra should have any shot at even tieing a turf war with gammoth, nevermind an elderfrost or the elusive bull. But as things are right now the system would see her on par with barioth, tigrex, fulgerjath, stygian and legiana, which is patently rediculous. I can’t even really see the anime monkey having anything to do with a gammoth, they have no competition overlap and at her sheer size it would be a MASSIVE risk to get close to her, and I frankly don’t even buy that the lightning beam would do much to her. Ideally I’d want to see a roaming gammoth and her calf in a large tundra environment, there from the first quest you do there. You could lure predators near the baby, at great risk to yourself, to get some free damage on them as gammoth whallops them for daring to come near her baby. In a smart enough AI system perhaps the mother would remember you doing that and would become progressively more agressive toward you as she figured out “hey that’s the naked monkey that’s always being followed by stuff that wants to eat my baby again”
25:38 Backlegger spotted, laugh at this man. The real issue with the fight is it's tendency to repatedly spam the charge. Elderfrost is more or less perfect fight vise with the new moves rounding out the moveset very well and make it not spam the charge
@@unnaturalhistorychannel Why slowly chip away at awful hitzones when the trunk is an easy to access 63 zone that ends the hunt in a 3rd of the time. If the head currently isn't acessible you still have the front legs which are better hitzones and topple upon break. Gammoth is a pretty fun fight when you do it properly. Elderfrost is even greater with the better moveset and AI and basically forces you aways from back legs with even worse hitzones and higher stats.
I wonder would you cover the orcs from the Hobbit and there ecology and biology and if not maybe the werewolfs from love death and robots because there ecology and biology might be cool to cover
covering itself in snow is also really smart as snow is an excellent insulator. also it picking up branches to swing at the hunter is just banbaro...but on crack, and that scares me lol.
Imagine if a Male Gammoth had multiple enraged states like Unknown, because its in musth. Additionally I would love if there was a rare species of Gammoth that was only the size of an African Bush Elephant because of Island Dwarfism, plus it would be an easy way to give Gammoth water element. With the rare species being much smaller it could also be much faster, maybe it could also use a Barroth style mud armor. And finally it’d be neat if Baby Gammoth could be found in Popo herds as a small monster, it could also have a unique interaction with either a Gammoth or Tigrex.
I think Gammoth is my favorite monster. Maybe because they so strongly resemble elephants and I just see Gammoth as a fantasy elephant. There is just something very relatable about them to me. Seeing the image at 9:12 really reminds me of an elephant sizing up with a lion, and I feel sorry for that Tigerex, because that Gammoth knows him and intends on destroying it. I wouldn't want to be in its place!
This videos have made me apreciate the diversity of herbivores in monster hunter, although he already talked about congalala, bambaro, duramboros, pokei pukei, gamoth, aptonoth, apceros, slaktoth and popo, there’s still bishanten, kechawacha(?), bulldrome, gastodon, kestodon, mosswine, epioth, anteka, kelbi, larinoth, gargwa(?) and some wingdrakes left to talk about
I always feel a little bad hunting Gammoth. Elephants are such wonderful creatures. Also, veins being part of the head plate does make sense when you remember that it's actually one of Gammoth's weak points. As for the fight, she actually does get a countermeasure against hunters who focus the back legs in G-Rank - she will try to SIT on them. But for me, I always just spammed jumping attacks with an Aerial-style weapon until I could perform a mount/topple, then attacked the face/trunk while she was down.
Oh and for the fight details half the stuff you said is in the fight, especially in g rank. Its just the infrequency if them though elderfrost fixes a lot of it because you actually want to hit the face or else you will never be able to get the trunkspine. Front fighting gammoth was always more fun than back hogging
The tiny gammoth calf being „barely as big as a rhino“ really shows how massive gammoth is
that's terrifying lol

We really need more herbivore monsters. Like a moose, or hippo, or ankylosaurus. So many possibilities. Not everything needs to be a dragon or theropod.
banbaro is kinda a moose already
Moose is shown in Anteka and Banbaro, Apceros is based on Ankylosaurs, and Slagtoth are loosely based on hippos even though they look like a mix of a hippo, capybara, and manatee and act like the latter but with the aggression of a hippo
My main problem with something like Ankylosaurus or Stegosaurus being MonsterHunter-ified is that so many monsters already have maces or spikes on the tail that I'm not sure these creatures have the ability to stand out in any relevant way

Without even knowing much about them, seeing a physical bison, moose, elephant, etc creates an innate sense of awe and understanding of said creatures being a threat by size alone. true, a horny bull gammoth could probably beat elders
I can imagine new lore coming out with that. Like how most predators will actively avoid bull gammoth in musth, even Kushala.
I'd argue it would be almost Ukanlos level
It would be terrifying. Like Godzilla with tusks
We're one step closer to the Ice Age 3 video
Okay so about Gammoth's wierd colorful fur pattern. With the shape of her body with it getting more narrow and lower to the ground as you move towards her back legs, it kind of makes the shape of a big dragon head. Along with the giant white and black spot near her shoulders it sort of resembles an eye to me.

More herbivores!
I think an aggressive Sauropod-like monster (Perhaps an Elder Larinoth) would be pretty cool.
I find it harder tk Slay mammal animals lol.
She needs to return in MH 6, only one that got left behind
She was too big and slow to board the boat to fifth Gen
not an excuse, i've seen elephants swim
At least we still have her and Elderfrost in Stories 2
@@RealDr4k0 I don't think any of us have seen a living mammoth swim
Hell yeah! We’re working for peanuts today, bois!
I second this
I third this
I fourth this
I fifth this
I sixth this
Honestly an idea I had for Gammoth to got get cheese from behind was to use her nose vacuume move to pull those hunters from behind her to be underperformed for crushing or towards the trunk for a grab and throw or to go under the front legs for a kick or stomp. The nose suck is already in the actual move set so why not use its properties to force hunters out of ideal positioning
That would make for a neat spacing tool
Maybe something similar to that massive, carnivorous boar? The hell-pig I think it's called?
@@TheRedMan77 They're called Enteledonts, and they would be cool monsters!
@@anthonyporche8110 Yeah those guys. They cool.
I'm a fiver and this is probably one of the monsters I'm most disappointed to miss out on. I absolutely love the concept and I sincerely hope Capcom takes another shot at this beautiful giant.
The only fated four that needs an update. Nice to see her get done
I have never clicked on a notification faster I have been WAITING for this day to come Gammoth my baby
Edit: truth be told, I’d always assumed Gammoth’s trunk spines were both for self-defense and a pseudo-second lip for their trunk, given their curved shape would allow for somewhat better grip than the flat trunk that would otherwise exist without them
Edit 2: I’ve always assumed that the interactions between Gammoth and Barioth are more undocumented than anything else, given the season and time of year in which we enter the mountains. It’s also entirely possible that Barioth hunts the calves and younger Gammoth exclusively, and leaves the adults alone entirely
Edit 3: Good lord Gammoth Musth is a terrifying idea, although I think that elderfrost individuals, being simply said that it’s an old matriarch, could be either sex of Gammoth…although now I’m thinking of Elderfrost Musth and uh my god wtf nope
Edit 4: Gammoth would be a great candidate for a world-style rework, and to me personally that Gammoth is the poster child for “Capcom treats their herbivores like jokes”
Edit 5: on rewatch (again), there’s a couple things I noted: One) your mention of “exceptionally hungry predators” being the only ones often brazen enough to go after Gammoth and other such protectors leads me to believe that Deviljho and Gammoth might have Some sort of hostile relationship, although given the scarcity of both its unlikely that the Guild has documented it
'Matriarch' does imply specifically a female gammoth
@@oygemprime3864 I get where you’re coming from, but my point with that is that it’s possible that Gammoth bulls can become the EQUIVALENT of Elderfrost individuals, although they most likely wouldn’t be called Elderfrost
She always felt like she was meant to be elder dragon tier of power lore wise
Gammoth in iceborne would have been perfect. Not just thematically, but also because they could have shown of her intellegence by having her interact with the enviorment. Like imagen her spraying water onto the ceilling in the underground large cave, to cause ice to fall on the player or making giant snowball in the deep snow area or causing tremours on the frozen lake or using a tree from the first zone as a club.
I never clicked on a notification faster, I've been waiting for this video since the channel was made!
7:11 "Barely the size of a rhino, if that."
*"the size of a rhino"*
If that's the case, then I think I greatly underestimated how large adults are if that size chart is anything to go by.
Yay my favorite monster gets some love and praise. Thanks UHC!!!
I'm hoping that Gammoth will be on a next Monster Hunter game. Oh and Ukanlos too. Definetely wanna see the beeg snow shovel chin boi.
Same. I can as also wondering about why they seemingly chose the molars to be the tusks
*Modern elephants
A variety of extinct elephants have tusks on the lower jaws
I could see them adding something like how Rajang digs out boulders, but with Gammoth's tusks.
i would like to see if theres a lore reason as to why most herbivores in monster hunter seem so unequipped to defend themselves from their predators. With the exception of gammoth, duramboros, diablos and a few others theres barely ny herbies, and the ones that exist seem like complete fodder, quite a shame
The isle dude has arrived
There's another video from Unnatural that goes into this, and one of the main points is that herbivores like Aptonoth are probably very prolific breeders; therefore, numbers are their principal defence. It's also worth remembering that certain stuff like the effectiveness of armour and body weaponry (Apceros' tail clubs, for example) is often sacrificed for the sake of smoother gameplay. Imagine if a single Aptonoth could tank your health with a tail swipe.
Gammoth is my fav of the fated four and i was disappointed that she didn't get into a 5th gen game. Also her theme is an absolute banger.
Made it to stories tho
The thought of a Gammoth bull going into a murderous rampage via musth is absolutely terrifying.
Especially if they are much larger than the already massive females.
you mentioning gammoths need for a dedicated map and use of environmental traps is really in line with my opinion that i think gammoth would work so well as a KT style siege monster.
something like gammoth is rampaging causing avalanches and you have to repel it, or even just a simple jhen moran style festival hunt "gammoths back on the menu" etc etc
My favourite member of the fated four. It si so refreshing to see giant mammal going toe to toe with massive wyverns.
Favorite Fanged Beast by far and of the Four. Love her gear too. 👍👍👍
Thank you she maybe the least popular of the four but she easily my favorite and I’m so happy to see her getting some attention
One of my favourite monsters from the franchise
I sincerely hope Capcom considers making other large monsters based on herbivores
YAY, the Matriarch of Monster Hunter has her own video! You've got my respect :)
I'm curious about Gwoemul (Fish Creature from 'The Host', a South Korean Sci-fi movie)
Glad to see Popodrome getting some love. 🐘❤
Another great video!
I lost my pet today, and listening to your video is really helping to keep me distracted
so thank you for that!
Was just wondering what the next monster was gonna be a few minutes ago, get out of my head!!!!!
My favorite monster! I’m so happy you finally did it!
Would be cool if they could pick up a tree with their trunks and use it against the hunter, give the greatsword mains size envy
Imagine if capcom had mad bloodbath a gammoth bull variant instead of a diablos. The second phase would work well as a must mode.
Not gonna lie i was expecting a Manscaped ad when you mentioned her fur
Thus closes the fated four chapter.
I was watching a Lunagaron intro and for a split second I saw a Gammoth with a white background and I knew that UHC has made a new video!!!
If Monster Hunter was to ever go more simulatory rather than actiony I think the game could benefit from just sticking to one or two locales and fleshing out environments and monster interactions to the extreme like seeing Gammoth moving through avalanches, protecting her babies from a Tigrex, uprooting and using trees all in one game.
one thing i would like for them to do with Gammoth fight is seismic attacks like their physical strengh is so great that they create shock waves and changes in the terrain, with the males being so strong that they are at almost mythical levels power explaining why they are not hunted (maybe even creating a new ELDER category but for fanged beasts this time), as for a possible story how we could enter in a fight with a male i came up with this:
there is a reason why killing a baby gammoth seems to be a taboo, is to no invoke the wrath of a male in retaliation, males maybe can protect the young directly but they can help the species by creating a safe zone with a lack of larger predators that would put their calfs and popos (that would also explaing how popos can be such wide spread species even tho they are hunted by everything) so when a male finds a freash killed gammoth calf they enter in a alarmed/rage state similar to a must where they are searching in a angry rampage for the threat within their safe zone, they can be smarth enough to reconize by the wounds on the copse what killed the calf if was a trigrex or hunters
the story qould be , a foolish hunter breaks the taboo of hunting a gammoth calf for some reason this results in a adult male gammoth charging into the villager in a blind rage and we for the safety of the people have to put it down
kinda dumb but i think would be cool
Now let’s see what Larinoth and Epioth would be like.
Good video, enjoyed those 32 minutes very mucherino
A fully realized Gammoth would truly be an awesome monster.
I really want a true mammal flagship monster. I dont care if they say Gammoth is "technically" a flagship, Glavenus is the one that gets the focus.
Gammoth is great, if easy to fight, but I just really want to see what they would do with a monster that actually would be on the boxart.
i find it hilarious the strategy used against actual mammoths/elephants is the easiest way to kill a gammoth
stand behind it and aim for the ankle tendons XD
Yes... finally I hope I get to see her in the next game, Stories 2 was alright but I never got the hang of how to use Gammoth in it
if i remember correctly, gammoth is a slow burn leveler, where she really starts to gain a lot of points in the later lvls (70+ or 80+ range). Therefore she appears to be quite weak around lvl 40 to 50, when you usually get her or in pvp.
Id like to see the turf wars and watch her absolutely wreck elders through shear size and even better to see her turf war with tigrex
I really like Gammoth, and I too hope she gets the facelift she deserves
Oh man! I’ve been waiting for this one!
Yoooooo, my favorite of the Fated Four and by far one of my favorite monsters
Gammoth and Popo being (excuse the anthropomorphism) "friends" just makes it even more of a shame when we get Popo without Gammoth.
Gammoth is awesome, definitely one of my favorites
25:38 Backlegger spotted, laugh at this man.
The real issue with the fight is it's tendency to repatedly spam the charge. Elderfrost is more or less perfect fight vise with the new moves rounding out the moveset very well and make it not spam the charge
To be fair why wouldn't you backleg when it just ends the hunt in 10 minutes?
@@unnaturalhistorychannel Why slowly chip away at awful hitzones when the trunk is an easy to access 63 zone that ends the hunt in a 3rd of the time. If the head currently isn't acessible you still have the front legs which are better hitzones and topple upon break. Gammoth is a pretty fun fight when you do it properly. Elderfrost is even greater with the better moveset and AI and basically forces you aways from back legs with even worse hitzones and higher stats.
GAMMOTH STANS, ASSEMBLE.
ASSEMBLE
ASSEMBLE
I have heard your call. I have come!
I totally agree on Great Shamos for a future new world entry! I'd love to see one. Shamos are my favorite small monsters.
