I think it's cool that the Reapers just don't roar for the scary-factor, but the devs actually thought a reason for it; They use the sound for echolocation, similar to bats. Makes them more realistic and all the way scarier!
I'll admit, I was hesitant to explore this region at first, considering the Reapers that patrol the waters. Even though I had a Prawn suit, stasis rifle, and a heat knife with me, I couldn't help but feel naked in that open water, like I was already surrounded and had nowhere to run or hide. I felt that as long as I kept low to the sands, I would be okay. I think it worked out well, as I spent two in-game days looking for the crater and Precursor cache while also scavenging a good amount of resources. I might go back again, but next time I'm slaying some of those devils.
I was driving close to Aurora on my seamoth, as I heard it. I quickly rushed to the nearest" safe zone", waited for a bit. Just as I wanted to get to my seamoth, Reaper jumped out of the water, as i got my heart fucking stopped for a sec, after that, it took my seamoth. After the shock, i decided to get my seamoth back, fixed it, and it attacked again, swimming out of the fog thing. I got scared literally shitless, to the point of using cheats and teleporting. Fuck you in a good way, Subnautica. Managing to scare people without horror stuff.

Every night, I wake up in my base, and sweat fills the bed. I cannot forget the roar that i heard. It sounded like a gunshot slowed down along with a horrible growl. I see the creature in my dreams every night, it has two HUGE black eyes that glow, along with razor sharp teeth, and spikes that stick out of its bloody gills. It had to be atleast 600 ft in length. One night, I was exploring the Lost River, when I came across the mysterious fossil of a colossal Leviathan. I wonder..., is this what I heard that night in the Dunes? Little did I know, I was very WRONG. A few days later, I was exploring the crash zone, when I saw the Aurora tilt violently. IT WAS HERE. IT FOLLOWED ME. I swam to the surface before I was dragged under, straight to the Dead Zone, where I screamed and pulled out my Stasis Rifle even though I knew, whatever this thing was, was so GIGANTIC, my Stasis would not do a thing to the creature. I choked on the freezing water, and I said to myself, “I WILL NOT DIE!!!”. I took my Stasis Rifle, charged it up to max, and set it to overpower mode, went under, and I said to the creature, “Chew on bubble, you chunk of CRAP!” and fired the rifle before I swam as fast as I could to the Safe Shallows and choked on water and barfed several times as I drunk the water to stay hydrated. I reached the Safe Shallows, got in my base, and screamed as loud as I could before I collapsed in pain, and exhaust.
I went near the dunes while exploring the mushroom forest for moonpool fragments so I was still pretty new. I was already on edge since the mushroom forest is kinda creepy, at least for me and then I get to the edge of the forest and I just see a reaper silhouette in the distance and I instantly turn around and book it to my base P.S: I was the kind of player that only played in creative until recently and even in creative I was still terrified of the game so in survival mode a reaper is 2x scarier

The Dunes is just a wasteland that should remain unexplored Edit: if your on PC, press F1 to open the up a thing that shows what biome your in. This way, when you see it say Dunes or The Dunes you can book it. Also, open up a map of Subnautica on google it helps a lot.

Leviathan class species are vast organisms at the top of their respective food chains. This species is a streamlined hunter, with highly developed senses. 1. Powerful Mandibles: This leviathan is capable of locking prey in place with four powerful mandibles and drawing it within reach of its jaws. Simulated pressure exceeds Seamoth crush resistance. 2. Echolocation: The deep roar emitted by the reaper at regular intervals is effectively sonar if you can hear it, the reaper CAN SEE YOU. 3. Profile: The scanned specimen measured 55m long. Observed circling its prey and attacking from behind. This creature is almost all muscle. Very little brain. No sense of morality. Just muscle, synapses, and teeth. Motivational note: Congratulations on getting close enough to scan it and living to see the results! Assessment: Extreme threat - AVOID IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES

M Garvue I don’t know why, but ghost leviathans and sea dragon leviathans aren’t as scary to me as the reaper. Maybe because ITS SO FUCKING LOUD
@@Saryn. that, and they grab you with their mandibles.
I also can't tell if they're smiling or angry whenever i see them.
Saryn what about reefback leviathans
I created a specific base and a seamoth called dunes diver, with only sonar and depth upgrade, terrifying.
1:40 Dont know why, but that roar gives me a feeling of nostalgia.
If you can hear it, it can see you...think about that
I'm still surprised that all of the aquatic lifeforms are still alive there despite the overwhelmingly amount of predators
I don't think the Reapers prey on such small fish, they probably eat bigger creatures like Bonesharks. (And mistake Seamoths for food)
I just about peed my self im never going to the dunes again.
Oh don't worry. I have set up a family friendly reaper viewing base/amusement park in the dunes! So now, you and your family can see what reapers look like up close! :)
Reaper leviathan hip hop beats to relax and study to
Calming!
Reaper: *Roars*
Me with my new seamoth: This is fine
Oh yes! I actually really like that you were able to see the leviathan in the video!
Goddamn it I love this game and the world it brings you into so much
my base is at the dunes so i hear this pretty much all the time, well except when im not at my base or in the dunes.
Atmospheric horror, I can handle. But I am vulnerable to jumscares.
My white noise video ended sometime in the night and autoplayed me with this while I was sleeping.
THANKS I DO INDEED FEAR THE REAPER. :')
I think it's cool that the Reapers just don't roar for the scary-factor, but the devs actually thought a reason for it; They use the sound for echolocation, similar to bats.
Makes them more realistic and all the way scarier!
The reaper is truly the most terrifying creature in subnautica.
Detecting multiple leviathan-class organisms in this area. Are you sure whatever you are doing is worth it?
Imagin trying to go to sleep with this ambience...
Literally me
Also me- perfect chill ambient noise (yes even with the reaper screams)
*distant roar*
Me: *instantly turns around*
Reapers swim like a mermaid, Ghost leviathans swim like a snake, sea dragon swims like a human
You can only just barely see the reaper moving around in the background...until it come up around the arch.....😱
And when it does..............
Me: 😱
Reaper: ROAR
dune.
Well I've listened to the ghost leviathan version now I'm gonna listen to this
"It is not that I hate it - I love it, I love it very much. ...But I love it against my better judgement."
-Werner Herzog, Burden of Dreams (1982)
I love getting a facial from a reaper 🙂
I was listening to this in the ambience playlist, not really paying attention, until I heard the reapers and sat the fuck up. Got me good lol
This place would be more terrifying if there weren’t any fish there
The scary thing is, when it roars, it uses echo location.
That means…
*It knows where you are. No hiding. No escape.*
Just the music makes it seems like somewhere you aren't supposed to be
PDA: Detecting multiple Leviathan class lifeforms in this region. Are you certain whatever you are doing is worth it?
Me: I will just stay close to the bottom in my Seamoth!
Reaper: *roars*
Me: *collecting materials from wrecks*
PDA: All Leviathan lifeforms have vanished.
Me: WHAT?!
PDA: Detecting a MASSIVE alien lifeform in this region. Evacuation of this region is advised.
Me: *sweats and swims away*
PDA: OFFLINE
Me: Oh god... I’m going to die...
*hears a loud roar that is very close to my location*
Me: *starts crying and swims to surface, panicking*
*reaches the surface and feels something MASSIVE brush against my left leg*
Me: *freaks out and looks underwater, only to find a Reaper, so I shoot the Reaper with a Stasis Rifle and swim away*
*When I get back to my base, I realize something HORRIFYING. The roar from the Reaper and the roar from the creature that sent me swimming to the surface do NOT match...*
You could write creeepypastas from this game :)
Does anyone want part 2
Every night, I wake up in my base, and sweat fills the bed.
I cannot forget the roar that i heard. It sounded like a gunshot slowed down along with a horrible growl.
I see the creature in my dreams every night, it has two HUGE black eyes that glow, along with razor sharp teeth, and spikes that stick out of its bloody gills. It had to be atleast 600 ft in length.
One night, I was exploring the Lost River, when I came across the mysterious fossil of a colossal Leviathan. I wonder...,
is this what I heard that night in the Dunes?
Mianderr UA-cam To be honest, I just improvised the whole way, so it came out really good in my opinion.
Mianderr UA-cam Also, thank you so much!
me: oooh a wreck and some cyclops fragments. count me I- “Detec-“ COUNT ME OUT
this is exactly where i built my base
I went near the dunes while exploring the mushroom forest for moonpool fragments so I was still pretty new. I was already on edge since the mushroom forest is kinda creepy, at least for me and then I get to the edge of the forest and I just see a reaper silhouette in the distance and I instantly turn around and book it to my base
P.S: I was the kind of player that only played in creative until recently and even in creative I was still terrified of the game so in survival mode a reaper is 2x scarier
You should’ve put close-proximity Reaper roar at a random juncture in the video :)
Played this game through; never saw the mountains, dunes, or most of the crash zone. Yes, I'm a wimp..
I was planning to explore the dunes but this reaper has me not wanting too.
The fact that you're talking as though there is only a single reaper in the dunes has me worried for your safety ngl xD
dune-not do it
i was roaming the north-east mushroom forest but i thought it was the north-west forest so this whole time i thought the aurora was the dunes so i was shocked to find out how close i was to death
*PTSD Intensifies*
I looove subnautica!! especially markiplier's episode playlist! and I have yet to even get the game let alone play it!
I think I will save that for another summer, cause autumn is right around the corner
Its fucking worth every penny.
Is there any chance you could make a Dunes ambience piece without the Reaper Leviathan roars?
The Reaper roars are a bit over the top for an ambience video, and that's something that has bothered me a bit. But for the time being, I'm not going to make another ambience from the Dunes, mainly because I don't have Subnautica installed at the moment, I removed it to make room for other games. Sorry.
*Watching Reaper Leviathan move in scanner room*
The seamoth sonar is my best friend and it always will be
The roar at 1:30 scared me and not even playing the game 😭
Am I delusional for wanting to build a base at the edge of the Dunes so I can observe the Reaper.
Its soo good thank u for this
Luckily you don’t need to go here at all to get blueprints. You can go to other biomes instead. The Dunes is just a wasteland that should remain unexplored
Edit: if your on PC, press F1 to open the up a thing that shows what biome your in. This way, when you see it say Dunes or The Dunes you can book it. Also, open up a map of Subnautica on google it helps a lot.
Man, the map helped me to find the blood kelp zone easily, it's very useful tbh.
please do ambience behind aurora or in mountain please I'm too scared but want to see 🙏🙏
Ready to go swimming here everyone?
this woke me up on an airplane.
This feels like watching a fishtank
is it bothering anyone else that those schools of fish are just going in circles
this is the ost for the dunes? uh oh
this was scary as hell
This is where i always put my base. I have easy Access to the grassy Plateaus, Bloodkelp Trench which brings me immediately to the lost river and of course, Sammy the safety Reaper. The best Boy/Girl in the game.
Aside from that i have a severe headache because I got my First covid vaccination and i need some help to calm down. Listening to this helps a bit but please Sammy! I don't want Reaper ASMR right in my ears.
You, my friend, are either brave to the point where it's stupid, or your brain doesn't process the concept of fear. I don't know which is more dangerous.
@@kingcamelot1395 I have anger issues and social discomfort so probably just stupidity.
Leviathan class species are vast organisms at the top of their respective food chains. This species is a streamlined hunter, with highly developed senses.
1. Powerful Mandibles:
This leviathan is capable of locking prey in place with four powerful mandibles and drawing it within reach of its jaws. Simulated pressure exceeds Seamoth crush resistance.
2. Echolocation:
The deep roar emitted by the reaper at regular intervals is effectively sonar if you can hear it, the reaper CAN SEE YOU.
3. Profile:
The scanned specimen measured 55m long.
I like the dunes i like to just watch and listen to the roars in my sea moth I sometimes follow them if I get grabbed then *shock*
8:49 is where I could fall asleep and then wake up with a sweat
45:37 now this one scared me
