Yes!!!! So glad you got to experience the beauty we have here in AR. I've been taking my paddle board out for weekend long camping adventures for last 2 years! Inspired by Dome Life, no doubt!
Just went canoe camping for the first time with my lady this summer Minnesota. Incredibly rewarding and we're itching to give it another go. The only down side... on our way out we took some wake from an impatient speed boat at a channel crossing. Soaked our gear which was in our backcountry backpacks, including our sleeping bag which made for a rough night. Going to have to look into those dry bags for our next go, and maybe look in AR for our next cross country go.
Man sounds like a good time minus the wake! I always say that if you’re boating the gear will get wet somehow. So whatever needs to stay dry should be stashed away in a dry bag. Good thing you guys were heading in!

I was also thinking of bringing my drone also.. that’s a bonus
It’s so special and seems like one of those places that stays the same with time. No development means it’s natural and will be that way forever. You have to bring your drone!
Thanks so much Brad! I could tell many folks had stayed at the island so it’s cool to hear you were there too. Firewood was scarce! Haha I bet the summer breeze is nice. Natural AC!
The Ouachita’s are truly a gorgeous place, been there many times. You captured the beauty of this area very well. For me personally, there’s this strange mysterious energy in this area, it might have something to do with the lack of development, not much tourism, etc. Not sure, but I feel as though as long as we have skilled outdoorsy individuals (such as yourselves) treating these places right, everything will be right with the world.
Yes! I think it’s the sheer beauty combine with a lack of people that makes them so wonderful. The ouachita are special and will be remembered forever. In fact my next video is a ouchita river. You have to watch it!
@@GatewoodBrown in the winter it is something else entirely. The lake is usually too big to freeze over, so you can still kayak-camp on the islands while it snows.
@@GatewoodBrown it's closer to home for you than me hahaha. I joined my buddy's float club back in October, they're looking to do quite a bit of paddling this year! Looking forward to paddling some new places this season!
Glad to see you made it to the area. It's Justin from Colorado. My wife and I kayak camped there back in 2017. Definitely want to go back and paddle the Buffalo River.
Hey buddy how's it going. This was a great adventure you & Lisa did. The island looks so nice and peaceful and so did the water. I like how you had so many islands to choose from. This video was perfect timing cuz I am staring at eight inches of snow on the ground right now. My kids wanted me to go kayak snowing with them! I see no thank you I do not have a dry suit for that white water & it's cold too. Love those sandals you was wearing. I'm trying to get me a pair in the springtime for kayaking. My flip-flops broke on me in the river back in the summertime & I had to finish the rest of my day barefooted 👣 & I had to take my kids to like Walmart & the grocery store school was getting ready to start. It was challenging trying to get in the store and walk around the stores barefooted 👣 but was able to do it the only problem I had was a guy in Walmart laughing at me about how fat I was , how fat my toes were , & how wide my foot was. He was yelling it out real loud in the store for everybody to hear it. How was kind of embarrassed cuz this is a problem that I cannot help. When he walked by me and my son's real real slow staring at my feet I was trying to figure out why he was he staring at them like that I should had known he was going to say something about me having wide feet & being Barefooted 👣. Good video brother thank you for sharing. This helped take the snow off my mind.
8” of snow would be brutal! Stick in there buddy, Spring will be here soon. Can’t believe you did the barefoot walk around haha, hopefully you can fix that. Cheers to the new year!
@@GatewoodBrown oh yes it's brutal man & we about to get more snow 3" to 6" inches tomorrow night. I'm a little okay with it cuz at least my toes are stay warm this year with my new shoes. You're right man I can't wait until spring is here. I'm ninety-five percent of the time barefooted 👣 more than I am wearing my flip-flops. But I usually have my flip-flops on when I go into the store cuz no shoes no service. When my flip-flops broke I was no where Coast to home & Walmart do not carry any size 15 Footwear. Yeah I could fix that my wife said I just need to leave another pair of flip-flops underneath the seat so the sun does not shrink them up. Thank you buddy & cheers to the new years for you and your family too.
@@GatewoodBrown yes I agree with you that is a lot of snow. Yes that is true my neighbor was shocked to see me having shoes on my feet and was shoveling my driveway. My neighbor usually helps my kids shovels my driveway cuz I couldn't shovel my driveway in flip-flops. I have a real good neighbor I tried to pay him for it and it will not let me pay him. Oh yes my feet are built really tough. I have been used to doing things barefooted 👣 ever since I was born. I can walk across black pavement barefooted 👣 in 90° temperatures with no problem. All five of my kids try to do that but they can't do it. The only problem that I have now is since I broke both of my feet in the truck 🚛 accident. When cold weather get to my feet they make my feet hurt really really bad that's why I had to find some shoes really fast. I still can wear flip-flops in 30° temperature . I just was on Monday wearing flip flops in 30 degree temperatures with 4" inches of snow on the ground & putting gas in my car & my feet were not cold.

@@GatewoodBrown both I think, We live in cental Pennsylvania and we have a store up here called Dunhams. I dont know if yall have them around you or not. I bought my son a 8 foot Sun Dolphin Fiji sit on for $149.99, There is someone selling a used 8 foot Sun Dolphin Maui for $400. I bought a Lifetime Cruise for $239.99 and my wife got a Pelican sit on for $199.99. I can't remember the model. So with tax and everything I have about $625 in three kayaks. Oars were $29.99 and of course PFD's. I know they are possibly not great kayaks but hey, we are in the water right 😀 I figure we can always upgrade at some point. Thanks for your response.

Good lakes for kayak are (besides Ouachita which is the best) DeGray, Greer's Ferry, Norfork, Beaver, and Bull Shoals. I don't recommend the bigger rivers unless you're in a large johnboat or party barge, for bowfishing.

Great video. I spent half a day out on that island last summer. When it's in the 90s that island breeze is absolutely amazing.
Thanks so much Brad! I could tell many folks had stayed at the island so it’s cool to hear you were there too. Firewood was scarce! Haha I bet the summer breeze is nice. Natural AC!
Wow! Amazing, as always!
Thanks my man! After this experience I can definitely see going island camping more when rivers are low. So relaxing!
@@GatewoodBrown I’ll make sure to check it out, can’t wait!
Absolutely love this Lake. So glad I live very close!
It’s a special place for sure. Especially during fall when no one is there!
@@GatewoodBrown in the winter it is something else entirely. The lake is usually too big to freeze over, so you can still kayak-camp on the islands while it snows.
So good to see a canoe in your video!
Yes! I really enjoy canoeing around. So different than kayaking but we had a taste of it in Maine. So fun!
thank you, looks amazing
I appreciate that! The scenery and atmosphere was so special on that trip
We camp on this exact island every year! Can't wait to get back out there this August.
Haha that is awesome! We could tell it’s a popular spot because there was no firewood around. All scavenged!
@@GatewoodBrownwhat launch site has the most islands?
Great video as always
I appreciate that Steve! Hope you’ve been well my man. Happy new year!
I think I might move out there....dang that's an incredible place. Awesome as always!
I wish it was closer to home! Arkansas always impresses me. The natural state!
@@GatewoodBrown it's closer to home for you than me hahaha. I joined my buddy's float club back in October, they're looking to do quite a bit of paddling this year! Looking forward to paddling some new places this season!
Amazing scenery, looks like my kind of trip! Another great video Gatewood 👍
Thanks my man! You’d totally dig it, that’s for sure. Island camping is something I’ll do more of going forward
I just camped on an island last night on Lake Ouachita! Was absolutely amazing.
It’s the bees knees!
Glad to see you made it to the area. It's Justin from Colorado. My wife and I kayak camped there back in 2017. Definitely want to go back and paddle the Buffalo River.
Hey Justin! Very cool that you all have camped at LO! The Buffalo is on my list for sure too
Such a dope video! Wow!!
Thanks my man! Really enjoyed this one, both the actual trip and editing
So awesome how many islands you had to choose from! I was excited to see how you picked. Awesome trip!
Thanks bruv! We got lucky and found a good spot. Not much firewood though, all the big scouts had plucked it clean lol
Good stuff man. My family and I spent a day out there last summer. Beautiful lake, I'd love to make a camping trip out of it one day.
Summer would be a fun time to visit for swimming and such. Definitely worth going back to camp!
@@mackjenkins7721 that’s a ton of snow! Good thing you have new shoes for this year. I bet your feet are tough based on how often you free roam
Nice! Looked like a great trip!
Hey KW! It truly was a blast. Cheers!
Beautiful spot.
Totally agree!
Great video, We are new to the kayaking world. Found this channel and loving the information, ideas, and the scenes. New subscriber
Thank you for joining the community! Kayaks are a low key but great way to access outdoors that most won’t visit. One of the reasons we love it!
@@GatewoodBrown
We were looking to buy used. Then we found we were able to buy new for less than what they were selling used for. We have bought three new kayaks in the last week or so. Our son is 12 and is hard to motivate to do things. He has been in horse riding lessons and is starting to loose interest. Once we got him a kyak, he is all about going out he has been enjoying watching the videos also.
@@southpaw1517 that’s so awesome your son has taken a liking to kayaking. It’s something he will be able to do for the rest of his life if desired. Yeah I’ve been wondering how kayak sales will be since the big box stores ordered so much inventory. We’re the kayaks on sale or just priced well?
@@southpaw1517 off the cuff those all seem to be half what they were asking last year. That’s an improvement for sure!
I think this will be my next trip. Looks like an awesome place.
Do it! Such an easy trip and so rewarding to unwind and relax
Awesome trip!! She was prob more comfortable Bc she knows no large wild animals are wondering on the island lol. Great trip! Bindge watching your video while running at the gym.
Yes! And low key I was happy to know we wouldn’t be raided by wild animals too haha. Thanks for watching and hope you have a good run!
I’m planning on doing this same trip next weekend but I’m a bit undecided on what boat landing to use. Where did y’all put in to give you a good selection of islands without having to paddle a ton?
We did the buckville ramp! Only paddled about 1 mile there. This is a perfect time of year to go so have fun!
Man, I seen this and I went there a couple weeks ago. I was by myself except for Ranger, my dog. We checked out a very small area. It stormed really bad so we went up to flatside. Thanks for the video
Sorry to hear about the storm! Great place to take your dog though. Lots of beaches to swim and play around. It’s paradise up there unless a storm rolls through
Great video! If you ever head north to Michigan there are some great island spots along the au sable river that I think you would like.
Thanks my dude! I’ll definitely check that river out. I’d love to paddle up there and maybe learn a thing or two about fly fishing haha
Adding to my 2022 trip list
It’s worth it! And pretty easy if you leave enough time to check out islands haha
You gotta come to the Current River in MO. The water is spectacular it's clear and you can see everything around you is just wonderful.... It runs class I to II...
Yes! It is on the short list for sure. Missouri looks amazing for paddling!
When you decide to come to Missouri, and decide to hit the Current the 11 point or the Jack's fork Rivers. Give a yell...
@@schambers8301 will do! We usually plan super last minute but I may need some pro tips on good entry and exit points
Is ok give a yell I got good fishing spots too
@@schambers8301 Those are handy to know because I am trash at fishing haha. Need all the help I can get
This came out at just the right time! I have been spending my day at work scouting lakes in North Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho for a trip to take the vapor out for an overnighter ( I mean, I have been working). Good stuff bud! Cant wait to see what the future has to offer for our channels (more yours than mine with your GOAT cinematography)
Hey right on! I’d imagine Washington has some incredible lakes that out ours to shame haha. I can’t wait to watch that video when you come out with it! If you ever want channel advice I’m happy to discuss. I appreciate the kind words too!
@@GatewoodBrown Ill have to take you up on that sometime!
Dope! Can I ask where you launched from? I'm not too far and want to try this in a few weeks.
Buckville boat ramp!
Dream drone footage conditions!
That’s the truth! I woke up and was like whoa. Get the bird up I. The air!
@@GatewoodBrown Nice! I haven’t kayak camped yet, so trying to get there early enough can be challenging for these kind of shots… I usually get midday drone shots :(
Looks great And looks like alot of fun 🤙
It really was! Thanks for tuning in AA
Thanks Gatewood for all the great kayak/camping videos. Just wanted give you a heads up on a typo in the title. It's lake Ouachita not "Ouchita". I have misspelled this one many times. Thanks for all the time you put into these videos.
Hey I appreciate the typo! Looks like I got it right in the description, but not where it counts haha. I appreciate you watching all of the vids! Lake ouachita is an incredible place. Definitely going back!
I live in Duncanville, on the southwest side of Dallas. I have 9 1/2 acres about 15 minutes from the Game and Fish boat launch on that lake.
Oh wow! So these are you stomping grounds. Such a beautiful place! I’m sure your property is a peaceful place to visit
@@GatewoodBrown Next to the last property on a one lane dead end road. It's unimproved and great spot to pitch a tent. secluded
@@GatewoodBrown In Arkansas, the best rivers for kayak are the Spring River, Ouachita, Saline River, Big Piney Creek, and the Buffalo River. Good lakes for kayak are (besides Ouachita which is the best) DeGray, Greer's Ferry, Norfork, Beaver, and Bull Shoals. I don't recommend the bigger rivers unless you're in a large johnboat or party barge, for bowfishing.
@@phasegen that sounds wonderful!
You're in my neighborhood! We kayak camp here all the time!

Thank you so much!!
Man that looks so pretty!
It was stunning! I still debate if the sunrise or sunset was more beautiful haha
Try the key islands out in some of the Florida bays.
I’d love to do an island hopping mission down in the keys!
This is awesome
Thanks G! Island life is still possible inland haha
You’re giving away our secrets, lol. This is a perfect spot to introduce someone to kayak camping though.
Haha my bad! Totally agree, excellent place for someone to give kayak camping a try. Short paddle and beautiful scenery. Lots of good places to camp too
