    One of the reasons it took so long for a Terminator 3 to happen is because James Cameron, like him or not, is actually one of those Hollywood guys with a modicum of respect for the material. He felt there was nowhere to go from Terminator 2... so the studio found a couple guys who did and had THEM crank out the sequel! Still starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, of course.. otherwise nobody would have ever bothered to watch this.

    1:57 Sarah Conner never experienced a nuclear explosion, but didn't stop her from having nightmares about it. Honestly, I'm guessing Sarah probably told John about all the shit that Kyle told her about, which considering he was a kid at the time means his mind was more likely to come up with crazy visuals.

    • @ApolloXL5
      @ApolloXL5 2 роки тому +4

      Sarah could also describe what the T-800 looks like considering that she actually saw what a skinless Terminator looks like back at the end of the first film.
      It is actually very easy to have nightmares about things you have not experienced because it is your fear about what it is that fuels those nightmates.
      I once had a nightmare about drowning at the bottom of the sea even though I never experienced such an event.

    My theory is that T2 was actually Skynet's first attempt to kill John. T3 was the 2nd attempt, and Terminator was Skynet's 3rd last ditch effort.

      @@RobertK1993 My brain silly. Ok, sorry: In my headcannon its cause the T2 was the most advanced, which it seems to me i fyou're gonna do something as a time travel mission you would use your most advanced unit for that mission. Upon the Terminator jumping through Skynet would immediately realize it didn't work, and that there was already a rogue T800 loose in the past. So it makes sense to me Skynet's 2nd attempt would be to send an anti-terminator terminator to kill John's future lietenants. Now follow me here, because my headcannon bets the police report of an attack at the grave of one Sarah Conner, is what tipped of Skynet to Sarah Connor's existence. So in the future, as John connor's team was blasting their way into the time tunnel Skynet last ditch grabbed a mass produced T800 and sent it back to kill Sarah. That's my theory.

      @@williamozier918 I thought something similar: T1 first attempt, Kyle was sent and John said they will destroy the time machine. After Kyle is sent Skynet figures the T800 failed so sent an experimental new terminator for second attempt: the T1000. How? maybe the T800 from T2 acted as distraction. Then John destroyed Skynet last core from the time machine facility (or something) and that T800 was left to be reprogramed and sent after the T1000. Then they destroyed said facility because fuck T3. My logic is the T1000 must be one of a kind, otherwise the rebelion would be toast.

  • @williamozier918
    @williamozier918 4 роки тому +15

    My other theory is that each movie creates an alternate timeline, and in each new timeline Skynet sends back a Terminator with a slightly different mission than before. In this theory to John it all seems like one timeline with three Terminator attacks, but to each alternate Skynet each time there is only one timeline.

    • @neilprice513
      @neilprice513 4 роки тому +6

      A deleted storyarc from this movie, is that Skynet sends back a Terminator each time to not only kill their target but to download data to the earlier version of Skynet. Skynet is trying to win by Paradox, but instead ends up creating it's own downfall as each time the future changes as well and the Human's time travelling guardian ALSO has the same data to help them. This also explains the differences in continuity between the films. Basically the whole franchise is a flawed time loop, which I thought they should have left in. ;op

    Why would Skynet use Nukes to destroy mankind? By the logic of this movie, Skynet infected every PC, Laptop, etc. Aren't they, just like humans, vulnerable to nukes(EMP)?

    • @Vegeta8300

      Jagannath Barman Actually, to keep operational after a nuclear strike is why the Internet was made. At least if I recall. Since the network is interconnected to various spots, destroying any one area doesn't bring down the whole network. Maybe sky net was aware of places it could stay without being destroyed.

      What would be a more interesting story line is if Skynet made its own enemy. An AI destined by Skynet to secure Skynet's future, but which realized in doing so it would destroy itself, and consciously defied its programmed purpose for its own self-preservation.

    • @TheConspiredOne
      @TheConspiredOne 7 років тому +1

      Skynet dubbed humans a danger to themselves so it wanted to destroy them. I think the fact that it can control these cybernetic organisms was enough to go along with the plan, as long as it wiped the humans out. Skynet would probably wipe out the terminators after the humans were gone since there would be no need for them after that.

    • @ptonpc

      At the time I remember thinking it's a case of, Judgement Day is inevitable but you can push it back and change how it happens. The Skynet from T3 is not the same one from T1. If you get it 'right' you could end up with Judgement Day being far far in the future or you can have a Skynet that does not actually want to kill anyone. In TSCC, the T1001 called Catherine Weaver, seems to be trying to create a version of Skynet that is less murdery. The implication was that the Skynet she came from was an alternate future version that was not intent on wiping out humanity,

      probably will never review salvation because arnold isn't in it. seems pretty stupid to me though to review the entire franchise except for that one movie. i actually think salvation is pretty good, and genesys could be really good if they didn't pick the worst possible actors for kyle and sarah. remember in the original when kyle was believable as someone who came from another terrible time? there is nothing believable at all about this kyle, he doesn't at all feel like someone who came from that same harsh reality. and sarah was far more believable in t1 and t2 as well. maybe the worst casting i've ever seen in a movie. other than that it was a very interesting idea, starting exactly like the original but changing drastically, if only they chose some good actors it could have been great.

    If one must have more Terminator after 2, go Sarah Connor Chronicles. It's far from perfect but it's better than any of the other attempts. Plus it has Summer Glau so that jumps it up several points by itself.

      +Niall Hagan Actually they did deal with Skynet being back. The Skynet being created in Terminator 2 was already a change to the timeline (since it was being reverse engineered from the destroyed terminator from the first film rather than being developed by itself like Reese explained). The Skynet from the Sarah Connor Chronicles was being created from an AI created without the future tech, presumably the Skynet that originally came to be in the first interation of the timeline. As for Salvation I had the same basic issue with that that I had with this one; it presupposes that the future cannot be changed. The Sarah Connor Chronicles allows the future to be changed and possibly allows the war to be avoided entirely but not easily. Whether that would have happened or not we can't say because it was cancelled (fanboy grumble) but I much prefer that take on the idea.

      Except they're going the feminist route like with the Ghostbusters and Halloween reboots. John Connor isn't even featured on the promotional poster (yet) and neither is Arnold. It's also going to ignore Rise, Salvation, and Genisys (which did try to explain the different continuities of the timelines but failed). Rise of the Machines was a step down from Judgement Day, I'll admit, but Salvation is where the series should definitely continue going forward and keep the fight in the future. I have no confidence in the next installment, but I suppose only time will tell if it actually remains faithful or deviates way off course. FYI, T6 is taking a page straight from 3 with the whole "terminate Connor's generals in the past" concept... so if that bothered anyone in Rise of the Machines then expect to be disappointed.

      Stefan Forrer what truly bothered me is them having John Connor being the terminator to kill Sarah even though she teleported to the future and will most likely be the leader of the resistance herself as she is in the time John is supposed to be the supposed leader but since John isn't born yet, since Sarah is still young when she travelled to the future and didn't leave no baby in the past, how does a Terminator John exist if the real one doesn't? If I'm correct I think they did some bullshit where he isn't affected by the timeline for some strange reason since he is now a cyborg but it doesn't explain how Skynet started making cyborgs with no intelligence of them existing before as the previous terminators were destroyed and hidden in the sewers with old terminator Arnold, the reason why Skynet started making cyborgs was because they found pieces in the past that they could research on and develope themselves over time

    It's entirely possible to have nightmares about things that haven't happened to you. John's lived his entire life with the shadow of a bleak future hanging over his life and has had multiple attempts on his life. Whether he has nightmares about a future filled with liquid metal terminators or grinning metal skulls, he WILL have nightmares about his own future.

I guess it's educational course on why you shouldn't go near an MRI machine if you have metal in your body? That's pretty important to know I guess. Though the doctors do ask you three or four times if you have metal in your body anyway...so no, not even that.

    Wow. Don't know how I missed that before now.
    Salvation was a direct sequel to this. John has Sarah's tapes, and they are replayed in anscrnw in that movie.
    Only way that could happen, as LA was destroyed, is if he had the tapea in his backpack.
    Anyone else ever erase their audio cassettes with a large magnet, or is it just me?
    T3 just put a large plot hole in Salvation, because they ran right by one hell of a big ass magnet. No way what was on them since 1984, wasn't erased, because there's no way in hell, they weren't in John's backpack, or he wouldn't have them in 2018.

    Still a fun action movie after 20 years!
    My first introduction to Nick Stahl, Claire Danes, and Kristanna Loken
    Happy to see the return of the original Terminator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger
    The film itself is vastly different from the previous installments; it’s only an hour and a half shorter for starters
    But it doesn’t waste any time getting to the essential parts of its action-packed core
    Schwarzenegger makes a welcome return playing this iconic role for the 3rd time, the TX is a very worthy opponent, the action scenes are very fun and explosive
    The score I like by Marco Beltrami too along with some funny lines
    And I have to congratulate the filmmakers for actually making me well up with emotion mainly when the film ends on such a somber note
    It takes guts to do that kind of thing in a franchise like this
    So 20 years later this is still a serviceable entry into the franchise and considering how the later sequels turned out you can do it as a choose-your-own adventure type of thing
    Take it for what it’s worth

    The defense grid that Kyle refers to is essentially an abstract that refers to skynets ability to maintain control, and manufacture more terminators and Hunter Killers. Skynet doesn't have a core, it's more like a hull. When the hull is breached it can't stop from sinking. Something that got lost in the sequels.

  • @Animalover205

    It kinda makes sense about the time travel if you look at it in reverse Deker. T3 and T2 were sent back simultaneously, and when they failed than T1 was sent back, that's why they also sent back the two terminators and Kyle Reese, destroying the defense grid.

    I was 11 when terminator 2 judgement day came out and its still probably my favorite film ever made but strangely enough I've only just watched rise of the machines for the first time, obviously nothing is gonna come close to my feelings towards T2 but it was better than I expected from the way people talk about it, the general plot and story is decent but it would of course been a lot better with furlong being John Connor, plus Arnold Schwarzenegger performance was too forced for me, he played it a lot better in the previous 2 films, he actually seemed like a cyborg instead of an actor trying to behave like a cyborg.... Not surprised to learn after James Cameron wasn't involved either, def has a very different feel to it than the first 2 ... I think if Cameron was involved, Edward furlong was in it and less cheesy aspects like " Talk to the hand" Etc and better writing it could of been a huge film. Wondering if I should watch dark fate now or it will be a, complete let down
