Admit it. If I didn't review this one during THE SUMMER OF SYLVESTER STALLONE you'd all track me down and judge me. The same year Assassins came out, we got another much more infamous Stallone flick.. that being this one, Judge Dredd. It was based on a comic, but.. well.. what happens when Hollywood gets their hands on any established intellectual property? Make the same movie they've made 5000 times before, but with the skin of the new IP. Does it matter that it breaks just about every character? I'll be the judge of that.

"Anakin Skywalker was harder to convince than this!"
Yes. He was much harder to convince. *Two movies harder, in fact.*
To be fair, when Dredd says the rounds have an effective lethal range of 200 meters, he might mean against the judge uniforms/armor. but of course no one said that on screen.
Ya exactly what i was thinking
There is also Basic physics like when you shooting straight down the bullets tend to have a longer range, you know that thing called gravity.
@@thisithis he could have calculated that in too?

If You Were Wrongfully Convicted Of A Crime That You Didnt Do/Commit And Ended Up Spending 10 Years In Prison For That Wrongful Conviction Would You Be Justified In Murdering Innocent 😇 People To Get Back 🔙 At Society For That Wrongful Conviction?.
@@cadejust6777 Yep. One for each day inside. If I'm going down, I'm going down a fcking LEGEND.
Karl Urban's Dredd is legitimately excellent. I hope you've seen it by now!
Yup I have.
Urban is even a fan of the character and did Dredd full justice.
It was an okay film, I thought it was slow and kinda boring. BUT, he did Dredd well, and did his character justice.
if you haven't checked it his video yet or wanna go from this one to it here's a link ua-cam.com/video/YULU2LnMu4o/v-deo.html
Lmao what that movie is hated what planet are y'all on🤣
Coming here out of nowhere to see this comment really brightened up my day.
That big robot was the ABC Warrior ,a character not from the Judge Dredd comic strip but it was in 2000 AD comic.
It looks awesome.
Poor robot, he was too cool to get taken out by rob Schneider.
Although, just about everything is too cool to be taken out by schneider.
Also Dredd always knew he had a twin. It was never a secret
Man was Diane Lane hot back then, still is now.
Darkslayer289 what a fox :s
Watch her in The Outsiders
INDEED!
Darkslayer289 Agreed, she’s still lovely today and same goes for back then. ❤️
😂🤣😂
That intro is spot on for this. I had no clue who Judge Dredd was either, until I saw this. And even though I was a kid, I was really excited to see this movie for some reason. I don't remember the ads for it, but whatever they were they definitely worked on me.
_Edit:_ Always amused me, the idea of making suicide a crime. What're you gonna do if someone breaks that law? Arrest their corpse?
You know, I used to think that and realized how horrific it actually is.
Fail and get caught? Welp you just attempted to commit a felony. Get revived? Welp you just committed a felony.
So basically they could technically arrest you while you're already not exactly the most thrilled about living.
Probably Isocubes and skyhigh debt for your relatives. Y'know, as an incentive to not do it
Oh, wait. You didn't mean the movie.
I'd have to say the same as the guy above me then
Balls in his eye holes, that whole phrase was one of my favorite quotes in Tenacious D the pick of destiny
Stallone's turn as John Spartan in _Demolition Man_ was in many ways a more valid interpretation of Dredd than his actual portrayal of Dredd. They just inverted the nature of the dystopia Spartan inhabited. And IMO the Fifth Element had a better mega-city than either Dredd movie.
"I didn't break the law...I AM THE LAW ! "
That little trip up at the beginning of the video was gold. I wonder if it was planned or if Decker winged it. Either way, great review!
I learned that Joe Pesci could have played Rob Schneider's role, but he turned it down.
Man that would have been awesome
A simple fix to the dumbass plot twist is to have Griffen replace the sample with his own blood
Dude, I can't believe you left out the "Cursed earth pizza" line! That was (sadly) the best line in the film.
These should be called film summaries or speed run commentaries because the only time an actually review comes into play is in the last minute of it.
His reviews are more in the style of mystery science theater 3000, thats why its mostly commentary
I remember watching this movie in theaters in the summer of 1995 after watching Batman Forever. Later I watched WaterWorld.
Dear God, that was the worst summer ever. And I haven’t got rid of this eye twitch since.
You *really* need to see Dredd it was fucking awesome!
Decker your review episodes are some of best! you deserve way more views man.
FUN FACT: the guy who owns the shop is amazing singer/songwriter Ian Dury, who you might remember for Sex & Drugs & Rock'n'Roll, Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick and Reasons to be Cheerful Pt3.
Suicide is not legal in Japan. And as far I know, it actually never was, unlike in a lot of Western countries where at some point it was indeed illegal.
It is illegal in Singapore, though, as are most things.
funniest thing is them thinking dredd would just walk into a place he knew he'd be recorded and kill someone. ... hmm maybe...
Love that Tenacious D reference Decker haha
when decker started going crazy about putting his eyes where his balls are made me spit ice cream on my laptop im dead LMAO
Rock-paper-scissors? No.
Roshambo? Nah.
Janken? The one literally nobody has ever heard of? That's the one.
The full expression is also: "Ja~Ken; Pon!" ;-) .
@@jimtaylor294 but it still means rock paper scissors.
@@Cenzurat No, it means "See (relating to poking eyes ala scissors), Fist (relating to a closed fist ala rock) and Slap (referring to flat hand ala paper).
It means the same game yes, but def not the same words.
Did Dredd have blue eyes in the comics? just noticed that Stallone is wearing blue contacts...
We don't know. We never see him without his helmet, at least not directly. If it's not blurred, it's usually covered completely in shadow.
James Aggas soooo.. the contacts are completely pointless XD
Robodragon Pretty much. It's certainly strange that the film liked to stick to details that had nothing to do with the comic. XD
I found out who Judge Dredd was when I bought the role-playing game. :)
I'd recommend giving Dredd a watch but judging from the comment section half the internet just did that for me...
A great review and all the more so for being a different flavour to the Nostalgia Critic one (hey, you brought him up). I'd find it odd that anyone would have an issue with you reviewing it too, especially since A: You beat him to Demolition Man and Tim Burton's Planet Of The Apes and B: Mr Walker himself has said that he sees no reason why two people can't review the same film, so long as they're not copying each other. Which you didn't.
GriffinPilgrim Yep.. it looks like that's one more movie I'm going to have to pick up a lot sooner than I had originally intended! ;)
+Decker Shado I am looking forward to that review. Karl Urban's portrayal of Judge Dredd was much better than Stallone's in my opinion.
@@BigBrother169 I’m curious if there is anyone in the entire world who doesn’t share the same opinion that Urban was better.
18:31 "65 million population! Put up a "now hiring" sign."
Hench woman was in the movie because she was in Twin Peaks and every geeky movie in the 90s had to have at least one actor from Twin Peaks in it.
This movie may have butchered the comics but by god is it a fun 90s action movie. It's cheesy as hell but if you turn your brain off it's a fun time
Its like I always said: Those corner sofas are just an accident waiting to happen.
Hey Decker have you ever thought of reviewing The Universal Soldier films? The ones with JCVD
Didn't stallone want rob in this movie personally?
Stallone Tampered a lot during production.
“ I AM THE LAW! “
Award for most ridiculous line in the movie
Review Dredd I Loved Karl Urban as Judge Dredd I enjoyed both versions of Dredd The Stallone film is guilty pleasure
Although I'm (incredibly) late to the party I just thought I'd admit that I really enjoyed Judge Dredd. I had read a several of the comics (2000AD) when I was a kid, so was already a big fan of Judge Dredd, and thought the film was a fun, action packed story. The film got panned bigtime on release, but theres plenty of films the critics have praised that on watching have been boring crap. A massively underrated film due to bad publicity, but definitely worth a watch and in a different league to constant terrible Transformers or constant mind numbing Marvel movies!!!
I'm in the minority here in that I'm a huge fan of the comics but I also enjoy this movie. It's not good, but I enjoy it. Then again I haven't seen it since Dredd came out so I don't think I can watch it the same way again after that masterpiece.
this movie perfectly captured the cheesey pop culture of the comics but was unfortunately lacking when it came to the grittiness
It's still fun to watch
I get you. A movie is made for a film audience. There has to be some changes. like Dread takes his helmet off and walks around like a normal human. But I can understand butchery of plots and characters.
The original Robocop is the best Dredd movie.
Good review and I liked how different it was from the Nostalgia Critic's one (plus he did that 'Law!!!' joke too many times, making it not funny).
Plus I cannot believe I missed the point of Rico swapping the DNA samples even though they are the same. :)
You should review Dredd 3D now, it is a far superior film.
Not to mention the fucktard cracking a joke about about the facial damage done to Stallone as an infant with a crass "all that advanced cloning technology and they still couldn't fix Stallone's jaw."
Chia Pets of JUSTICE! I like it
You don't know the lore? I AM THE LORE!!!!
Data tilts his head in question
"40 floors???? that's suicide!!!"
"Maybe, but it's legal."
In the opening, the Judges are sent into the gang battle in order to end it and rescue any innocent civilians caught in the middle of said battle. Then they steadfastly refuse to believe that Snyder's character could possibly be an innocent civilian caught on the middle of the battle. Even though he just got out of prison shortly before the battle and ( apparently) has no gang affiliations on record.
After seeing the Karl Urban version of this character I look back at Stallone's version as pure TRASH! Sorry Sly but everybody knows you were a primadonna on the set. Didn't wanna wear his helmet the whole time eventhough it's part of the character, wears these stupid blue contact lenses, and of course the casting of Rob Shnieder. This movie deserves to be lost in the cursed earth.
11:14 I recognize that hand gesture from somewhere...
i am the law
The only redeeming scene in this movie is when Chief Justice Fargo lay dying he looks up and notices The statue of Justice and says "It's her, the blind lady. We never should have taken Justice out of her hands"
The original template for Judge Dredd was Clint Eastwood, his man with no name. His own block was 'Rowdy Yates', a role eastwood played in Rawhide...
“Chia pets of Justice”.Now that’s a great movie title.
Dredd's sentence is reduced to life because Fargo steps down and goes into the cursed earth. Sort of like a pardon.
From watching Decker I realized Stallone and Schneider were in Demolition Man...
YEW BEDRAYDA LAW!
LOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Rob: I bring you luck!
Dredd: LUCK?
Woman: Well, you are still alive Dredd!
Dredd: *grumble grumble*
Now that I have read the judge dredd comics I hate this movie even more.
I´ve seen a lot of reviews by Decker, but this one is one of the best if not THE best.
21:19 BEST REACTION EVAH!!!!
watched this one with my dad forever ago when he was around.. confused the heck out of me but i liked it probably because of how happy he seemed watching it.
"Mr. 'I am the laaaoowww'!"
Was hilarious. I must give this point to Robert.
22:51 haha nice decker
Oh my god Decker! You have to see Dredd! You'll love that badass action fest!
Enjoyed that Joan Chen was given a really efficient push up bra.
Glad to see im not the only one to of noticed that:-P
And to be fair, my 17 year old self in ‘95 had never heard of the character prior to this movie either 😁👍
Anyone notice that the guns the Judges use look a lot like the 10mm pistols from fallout 3?
I think it looks like that gun to
***** About twice the size but yeah.
The 10mm pistol's design is based on the Lawgiver.
Thankfully these guns are actually accurate when compared to the shite models in that abominable game.
Yeah I always found it strange there was surveilance of those reporter people getting killed but not... where ever the hell Dredd was at the same time.
Decker you absolutely have to review Over the Top. It's cheesey, cliched, and dumb, but it's awesome!
Im really enjoying your reviews Decker, really awesome work, great job! :)
"There's an Iso-Cube with your name on it, Schneider". of all the quotes that are in this movie, did they mention the Cubes? That alone would be a crime. But I digress. this review is good.
if really the only thing the law allows is a death sentence would that mean that the judges are inherently corrupt since the last request system can bend or break "the law" ?
Damn, that false start was hilarious!
i died at the Chia Pets of JUSTICE! line lol 18:40
Joan Chen? Oh hi there Josie Packard.
The old Robot was a shout out to Hammerstein from another 2000AD series called ABC Warriors ( Called ABC because they were built to resist 'Atomic', 'Bacterial' and 'Chemical' warfare)
3113mac Damn, never knew that. I’m kinda new to the character and I REALLY need to read the source material where this and the kickass reboot are based on.
decker is going to hate when he does a summer of sandler xD rob is in almost every movie.
I found out about Judge Dredd from an Anthrax song.
rednemesis88 I've just found out about Anthrax from a judge dredd youtube comment. I'm guessing they're heavy metal
Great show. I always thought of this as more of an accidental comedy flick than an action film. Still it is ok to watch if it happens to come on tv.
Dredd is Captain Falcon Confirmed
Type-Jay One must wonder if Nintendo read some Judge Dredd while thinking up the captain
Movie u just broke all the rules of making a Judge Dredd movie
1: Don’t make it corny
2: Wrong actor
3: Exposing Dredd’s face
4: No comedians from SNL
How do you plead?
Movie: Not Guilty
I knew you’d say that
And You’ve broken rule 43: Never make anyone quote Judge Dredd (1995)
I'm liking and commenting as I go...this is gold!
Fortunately I was in and out of comic shops as a kid and I had at least seen some JD covers by the time the movie came out
I have been binging the fu** outta ur channel decker shado!! The internet personality with the best hair!!! Btw decker, try nexus brand shampoo. 😎
24:40 - It's almost like having a Marvel movie establish a squad of Deadly Winter Soldiers that could potentially rival the Avengers...only to have them killed while still in their cryo-tubes...Whoops?
The block wars in the comics are because blocks are essentially miniature civilizations who damn near everyone agrees to like the same things to keep peace and don't like outsiders (other blocks) because mega city 1 is super cramped and everyone is on edge all the time so block wars can and have canonically started over dropped ice cream or other petty shit, also the voice activated select on the lawgiver is kind of dumb considering gunfights are insanely loud especially when high explosives are involved so im surprised the lawgiver can hear judge dredd at all while he's selecting on the fly whether comics or movies. i understand that its dystopian future tech and all judge helmets have an in-built headset for talking so i guess thats how the lawgivers AI can hear him
Never read the comics but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. 2012's 'DREDD' was a very different take on the character but I enjoyed it too.
If you've ever seen Multiplicity they explain you never want to make a clone from a clone as it dilutes the DNA much like making a copy from a copy is never as sharp as the original.
You really should do a crossover with Nostalgia Critic
Please do this it would be dope 💯
I wonder when they'll do a Strontium Dog movie and the other AD 2000 comics...
love the reviews man !! very funny and entertaining not like bruno entertaining, like rocky 1 entertaining ,what im trying to say is the reviews are fukken awsome !!!!
I feel stupid I always thought the demolition man novie was judge dredd i never realized they was 2 different movies smh lol I think its because Rob Schneider is in both 9f them for some reason I Thought Sandra Bullock was in judge dred to but it was some other brunette
Didn't they also do a crossover with Toxic Avenger? The next summer could be of [Toxic Avergers]
Metrócity 1! Where's Megamind?!?
lmfao "its the same shit, what kind of fucking plot twist is this?!"
7:04 Max Von SYDOW
I AM DA LAH!
22:53 - 23:00 is pure gold
As much as I prefer Karl Urban’s version of Dredd, the only thing that Stallone’s movie that I think they got right was the costumes and I actually like the weapons and the lawmaster bike in the stallone movie (I got weird tastes I guess).
Chief Justice saves the day at 15:43. Chief Justice William Rhenquist did the exact same thing to save George H.W. Bush's life at Camp David back in '89.
I fucking love that review ending. "I AM THE LAW!!"
I think Dredd though not faithful to source material(I've only read/ read up on the ones that feature him fighting the predators/xenomorphs) I feel it's actually a very good comic book movie before all comic book movies. . . became good (So everyone says). furthermore, this got me into looking up what Judge Dredd was because it was a really fun watch! and learning about a few things here and there like the Dead Judges, and the celebrities that are celebrities because they consume massive quantities of food! I felt this movie got the feel of Judge Universe down nicely. Though I did hear about the Karl Urban Dredd first never really got around to watch it because it kinda just. . . looked more generic and serious than it should have.
Welcome back!
I hope Decker Shado reviews Masters of the Universe eventually. Dare I say that is another movie that is so bad it’s fucking awesome!
You don't understand Decker, Joan Chen doesn't need a good reason to be in the movie. We just accept that we're lucky enough to lay eyes on her one more time! =)
