Visitormassacre except space travel ISN’T slow in the Alien Universe and it’s confirmed that humanity in this future has faster than light capabilities and the only reason Cryo pods are still in use is to A: save on resources and B: ensure the crew remains in shape for when they are actually needed.

    • @lonestarwolfentertainment7184

Visitormassacre to us yes but in the actual Alien universe it was always like that and will continue to be like that until another movie retcons it. And besides in the first Alien movie Captain Dallas said they were 10 months away from earth despite being in another star system and if you know anything about space travel then you know it would take 50 years for our fastest space craft to reach the closest star to our own meaning the Nostromo was going atleast 5 times the speed of light through some unknown means, that is more then fast enough to have a stable family while traveling throughout the galaxy as basically a space trucker so your argument is invalid.

24:52 Wait what? That drastically changes the entire theme of the movie. It gives context and motivation for her bonding with Newt.
It also changes the fights with the Queen into a fight between two mothers protecting their children.
In the end it is a story about motherhood and her experience of losing her daughter, her redemption, and becoming a new mother to a girl who is linked with their shared trauma, they are the only ones who can understand each other.
That one scene does all of this and the movie is weaker without it.

+OwenBruch22 I agree with you completely. I also disagreed with Shado's other point about the sentry guns. That scene was incredibly effective to me, because it showed perhaps better than any other scene in this movie the sheer volume of Xenomorphs that were running rampant and just how relentless they actually were.

I thought the deleted scene of Ripley learning of her daughters death DID in fact add to the original story quite considerably. By learning of her daughters death we not only feel a powerful loss in the main heroine whose world is falling apart around her, but it also creates a commonality between her and newt in the future (Both have lost loved ones). Granted, the theatrical did touch on it (The first scene between the two in the medlab), but after all the action thats happened, its almost forgettable. Both characters lost something near and dear to them, and both have gone through similar traumatic events in life. That scene I think helps further illustrate to the audience the similarities and eventual closeness shared between both of these characters.

Newt also becomes an almost-replacement daughter to the one Ripley left behind. And the film has a strong motherhood theme, with Ripley/Newt and the Alien Queen.

    • @Thagomizer
      @Thagomizer 9 років тому +10

Yes. I agree that the scene in which we meet Newt's parents disrupts the tension and mystery, but I definitely would have kept the scenes establishing Ripley's loss. It makes her relationship with Newt that much more poignant.

I personally preferred the director's cut of Aliens. The turret scene was done really well since you didn't know what was going to happen once the turrets ran dry. Were the Aliens going to advance on and cause a massive shoot out or were the going to retreat?
Also, seeing the colony before the outbreak didn't really make a difference since we already knew it was the Aliens that fucked everything up since the name of the film is, well.... Aliens.

WOW! I can't believe you didn't like the Sentry Gun scene, When I saw it for the first time, it was quickly elevated to one of my favorites in the movie as it shows a the more "Hive mind intelligence" side of the aliens that is not shown in any other movie. Throwing wave after wave of Warriors at the guns trying to test the defenses of the Marines before finally withdrawing and attempting to find another way to get at them was not only interesting it was damn cool to watch as well.

It's a neat scene, but it's stupid in a logical, "military aren't stupid" way.
1: how many people=how many alien MAX.
2: There was a few hundreds peoples, so that makes a few Aliens at most... So how can a military expedition bring less than ten times that amount for an AUTOMATED SENTRY TURRET!!!
3: Hardware like the pulse rifle had a capacity of a hundred ammo per magazines, so three mags, (based on the current "real world" baseline for self-carry reliability is three full mag for any infantry-type "grunt", which would equal three hundred "bullets" pet trooper in Aliens.
4: As a surveillance and threat suppression "shoot what'ev ain't us" war machine, the idea of a sentry turret being rendered no-go after using up all of it's ammo supply is actually a ludicrous.
5: With each men/woman being equipped with at least three mag, three hundred "bullets", a sentry gun, made to "spit lead" like there's no tomorrow by default would surely be supplied the necessary "overly cautious" three thousands rounds, which would make it perfectly capable of exterminating the spawed aliens from: 60, maybe 70 families"...
6: So yeah, with four/five people per family tops, (space colony =population control), that leaves what 300, maybe 400 people at most. So, with ALL of them turned into Alien mo-fo, then, even if nice, that "running out of ammo for the sentry" idea is silly...
7: Possible if they instructed the sentry to shoot everything at a wall to deplete it's supply, but...

@@amanibob1416 You're forgetting something pretty important. That's not all the supplies they brought, that's all the supplies that were left after their dropship that stored most of them crashed and exploded. We don't know how will equiped they were before they lost all of their supplies to that occurrence. That's why the turret scene is so good, because anybody with any knowledge on the subject knows that they are massively under equipped.

+Kenneth Ramos Actually no... Assuming you're seriously asking and not making a joke or something (Cause you know... Hard to tell with text sometimes), in the first ALIEN movie, the only other female crew-member is killed off-screen, but not before we see the alien's tail go up inbetween her legs, and what followed are some rather blood-chilling, tortured, and somewhat suggestive screams/cries. And when Riply finds her body, we only see her without shoes and pants. It has never been properly explained how she ultimately dies, though even the actress that played Lambert believes that was pretty much what happened to her character.

Nah man, the auto turret scene shows that while the ammo is quickly decreasing...the aliens aren't, so when they suddenly stop coming, you know it's because they're trying something else. Plus that classic 'Maybe we demoralized them?' line. Also, yeah, welcome to what they did in the olden days before aircraft. 'Daughter, I am going to the colonies. Be good and I will see you in a few years.' Incomprehensible to us NOW since we can travel anywhere on the planet and be back, even after a brief stay. Would quickly come back even with FTL because space is THAT BIG.

always liked how Aliens was action compared to the original horror, felt kinda like an organic progression... the first film the monster was a mystery you was discovering it wit the characters, a creeping menace, kinda metaphorical conquoring of fears.... the sequel was ok you know the creature now so it no longer scary in its mystery instead its more overwhelming than disquieting "oh sh*t there hundreds of them, well time to go out swinging maybe I'll get lucky".

Besides, you would think that the marines would probably be scared as shit when they said Ripley saw an alien before if it was the predators since they are not a pushover species and they are just as deadly or even more than the xenos. good question about bishop . i always assumed that no aliens will not interfere with him. but nowadays i see him like living organism made by humans. not quite robot like loader. or i am wrong. but what kind of robot digest food and what kind of robot is made from material like flesh. who knows what it is made of.

I beg to differ the special edition which I just watched today shows you why Ripley is willing to give up her life to save newt It makes it that much more meaningful + Seeing what happened to the Colonists gives you a better understanding of what happened leading up to it !
Every time I watch the theatrical version I would always wonder what happened how come we never get to see the Colonists yeah the other version is shorter and everything goes by much faster there but when I watch a good movie I don't care if it's a little bit longer if it's that good!

Has anyone ever noticed , once the credits finish, as does the music in Aliens, there is the howl of the wind dying down as the ambient background noise (hiss) is increased, you can just hear the sound of an egg(s) opening up? People always say there was no way that you could explain the presence of an egg or a Royal Face-sitter ( I mean Face-Hugger, jeeze chill !)on board Sulaco during the journey home while Ripley, Hicks, Bishop, and Newt were in Hyper-Sleep. The company obviously knew they were going to either bring a sample back on the Sulaco, or impregnate someone in Hyper-Sleep. How convenient that they were passing Fury 161 when their is an electrical short and fire on-board,.. their Cryo Tubes were ejected in the EEV, AFTER the computer reported Ripleys impregnation while in Cryo to the Network . I often wondered if while Ripley was off after laying waste to the Queens egg chamber and rescuing Newt, if Bishop didn't sneak back to the lab and grab one of the Face-Hugger's in stasis to bring back? He did say early in the movie he was under orders, that a sample needed to go back to the company labs. Supposedly the only 2 alive were killed by gunfire when Burk tried to get Ripley and Newt impregnated, but somehow that Royal Facehugger got on the Sulaco. Unless the Queen still had an egg in her or 2 that didn't pass thru the birth sack before Ripley destroyed it...she hay have left them attached in the landing gear alcove on the drop ship before confronting Ripley in the launch bay.
Either way, the audience was supposed to know there was at least one egg on Sulaco, else they would not have put the sound of an egg opening at the very end of the sound track as the credits and copyright info fades. Listen really good, turn it up loud, it's there plain as day. First time I heard it I was watching the Quadrillogy set DVD of Aliens in 7.1 DTS. I was like WTF..!!! You can still hear it easily on headphones, or on the regular DVD on a Stereo TV, doesn't need to be high end gear to hear it...

What gets me is when people complain about how easily the xenomorphs die in this movie while the one single xenomorph was practically unkillable in the first movie. That was because in the first movie the crew of the Nostromo weren't soldiers. They were essentially space truckers hauling a load of ore from a mining operation to Earth. They had no weapons except for what they could jury rig together with what they had onboard at the time. Their flamethrowers were blow torches reworked to shoot a ten foot burst of flames. The space marines had actual guns loaded with actual bullets. And not normal modern day bullets either, but futuristic exploding bullets (kinda like Rambo's exploding arrow heads, but smaller), so of course the xenomorphs are going to explode when shot.
Imagine a movie where a caravan of 18 wheelers gets stranded in the middle of nowhere, then the truckers that were driving the trucks start getting killed off one by one by a psycho killer, or a blood thirsty wild animal. That's essentially the plot of the first movie, only in space.

Nathan Brookes There really wouldn't be anything to come of it though besides Ripley later saying she was right due to the impending explosion set up by gunfire. Decker is right here in that Gorman should have ordered a retreat since not only did they have a massively reduced ability to defend themselves due to safety concerns, they also had absolutely no intel about what they were walking into.

You say Ripley in the scene sounds like a crazy conspiracy theorist, then who locked the door, and how did a contained face hugger get loose? The soldiers aren't brain dead they can put 2 and 2 together, the soldiers know they didn't lock Ripley and Newt up, and they know Ripley isn't stupid enough to leave her gun and radio in another room, and everybody knows it wasn't face hugger, which leaves the 1 person who made it pretty clear before arriving that he wanted the research data on the xenomorphs

Ripley, watching Bishop go hyperdrive playing mumbly-pegs, doesn't have a slight suspicion he's perhaps not human? Anyways....
When I saw this movie I went in expecting another Dark Gothic Horror movie but in the end it didn't matter because I love this movie and still say it's the best sequel ever made, even better than the second 'Halloween'. It was a great action movie while retaining the feel for the first one enough to make it is, in my opinion, a well-rounded storyline. The questions it raised for me only made it all the better, especially by not being answered.
I always figured the need for a host was due to some form of genetic harvesting because to deficiency in their own chromosomal make-up or possibly as a response to evolve the species to the next level in their biology the along the lines of the 'pequeninos' in the second book, 'Children of the Mind', of the 'Ender' series. If either was the case, then I would opine the Xenos would have some form of sensory that identified good candidates to host for the benefit of enhancing the species which is why Burke, who is by far the weakest of the entire group, is killed. The pick and choose to kill or host would seem to be selective as a survival technique. They would possibly have ignored Bishop as long as he didn't pose a threat, much like the Borg, which would mean they had awareness of artificial machinations, most likely through the Queen's awareness, so they stopped him.
I was especially excited with the addition of Newt... Not because she would essentially be a driving presence to kick Ripley's survival response by triggering in her 'Mother Instinct' as a substitute for her own lost child. I was totally digging the idea that here was a replacement, or better yet, an evolution of the Ripley herself by proxy. Newt had her survival instinct early in her formative years thereby insuring her to be a 'Super Ripley' when she matures, instilling a built-in progression to carry on the storyline of the original 'Alien'. There was, in my mind, no other endgame for her characters true insertion in the arc... Right?

Nah, Special Edition all the way!! You can't have ALIENS without the Jorden family finding the derelict, the father getting facehugged, Ripley's back-story with her daughter & the turret scene IMO.
I can't believe you didn't like the turret scene, LOL. It's tense!! It shows that even their more powerful weapons are no match for the alien, and that they won't stop coming. (Especially the way the guns ate up their ammo to almost zilch!!)

In all honesty Hudson was probably one of if not my favorite character in the film. He started out as the smartass, then when shit hit the fan he started to lose hope, realizing the threat of the Aliens. But in the end Hudson was a strong marine, he could have survived that scene, but he dropped a large number of advancing xenos which would have proven a problem. In the end, Hudson's sacrifice was not in vain. He kinda saved the lives of those who got away by holding them off.
He had a fair amount of character growth in the film and I really do wish he survived, but as I said he served a valiant purpose. Also, Rest in Peace Bill Paxton, you were always my favorite Colonial Space Marine.

With the exception of Newt's family finding the wreck I prefer the extended cut ! I mean personally as well ! I loved the movie for years before I even found out about the additional scenes ! The revelation that Ripley has a daughter explains her immediately locking onto Newt ! Mothering her ! "Check it out !" Hudson's rundown of the drop ship's armament and the weapons available helps you understand how much they lost in the crash ! Plus it's more Hudson time ! And I know it's probably the weakest of the additional scenes but I like the auto cannon scene ! By running them both dry I think it emphasizes how screwed they are ! And it shows that the aliens learn and adapt ! They just don't understand the concept of finite ammunition ! Because they could have just walked back down the tunnel ! I really just like the scene !
