Originally Arnold’s character was supposed to be Conan as Sonja and him share the same universes and have famously teamed up several times over the years. But due to many issues, mainly copyright, that part was dropped and the character became a stand in for Conan.

Awesome hilarious review Decker, I'm currently battling manic depression & not in a good place, these reviews certainly make me laugh & help take my mind off my problems.
Fantasy films like these always seem underpopulated to me. You barely see any people outside the main characters. Except for goons. These worlds seem to be about 80-90% goon.
Conan The Barbarian & Conan The Destroyer had quite a few people besides the main characters in them. With lower budget movies like Red Sonja the problem is just that, the budget. They just can't afford the hundreds and hundreds of extras needed to make cities, etc look heavily populated.
I take your point but even the Conan movies aren't that great in that respect. In both we get one scene of riding through a city and then nothing but goons and main characters. The Jason Mamoa Conan felt a lot more like a living world. I hope Decker reviews that one some day.
You do understand that the only populated areas back in the ancient days were massive cities other than that the outskirts of the cities were completely empty it makes perfect sense you fuking imbeciles.
@@MF-LXRD Hmm, you're easily annoyed. And also wrong. Leaving aside the incredible vagueness of "ancient days" where do you think those massive cities got their food? Magic? Any large population centre was surrounded by miles and miles of farmland, most of it close to the city due to the impracticality of transporting food long distance. Then you get the trade roads which, depending on the era, were lined with inns and small settlements profiting off the trade. The past may have had a lower population than today but outside cheesy movies and open world RPGs the world was not split into "cities" and "empty wilderness." You may know Ernie Reyes Jr. from this and Surf Ninjas and TMNT but I know Ernie because I attended his school West Coast Karate here in San Jose California for a decade, earned my black belt in Kyokushin from Ernie Sr. Unfortunately Jr got sick a few years ago and needed a kidney transplant, it was a big scare and a reality check for all of his students, this badass fighter and teacher we all looked up to and respected who was still fairly young and extremely healthy suddenly stricken with a deadly condition, luckily he’s doing okay now, one of my favorite people in the world and by far one of the best martial arts teachers I’ve ever had. Much appreciation to both Ernie Jr. and Sr.
Here's a silly thought: What if "Red Sonja" was a live-action feature-length story of the Green Ball from "Heavy Metal" along with all the other stories the Green Ball had?
Actually if all goes well I might magically finally finish the summer special just before turkey day... hoo boy, it doesn't feel good to be this behind. :/
There was going go be a remake in 2010 that would have starred Rose McGowan but it was canceled after she fucked her right arm up in an accident (permanent nerve damage too from what I heard). There's another attempt being made that they're supposed to start filming this year, but I can't find anything that can confirm which studio, who's directing, or who's even been casted in it.
Some fan theories say that Red Sonja takes place centuries into The Hyborian Age's past, and that Kalidor is actually an ancestor of Conan's. Others say that the movie takes place much later in the Hyborian Age, and that Kalidor is actually a descendant of Conan's. Personally I think that Red Sonja was actually SUPPOSED to be a spin off of the Conan films, and that Kalidor was originally written as being Conan. But for some reason Dino DeLaurentis couldn't get the rights to the Conan character (odd since he was the producer of both Conan films, but I think that character rights reside with the distributers, which were Universal for the Conan films and the rival MGM was the distributer for Red Sonja).
I'm no expert on the timeline of the Conan universe, but my personal headcanon is that this movie is a sequel to the Conan films where Conan at least became a lord and changed his name to hide his identity for some reason.
8:46 - 8:53 Also, and I know it's not an improvement, but the last appearance I saw him in was Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as one of those natives that Indiana Jones kills with their own poison dart.
You know this entire movie could be viewed through the lens of being an alternate reality version of the first Conan. Imagine if Conan's family and village hadn't been murdered, he wouldn't have been conan, Conan was a name given to him by a slave trader. Calador might have been his birth name for all we know, his village thrived, he eventually became the king of his people. And instead Valeria's village may have been the one destroyed by the serpent cult, Valeria the one enslaved and eventually she was the one to defeat the snake leader and then take his throne as her own and become the dark queen gedrin we see here.
There's actually a much more trivial explanation for Arnie's character beeing named ''Kalidor'' and not Conan:Dino DeLaurentis, just got cheap and didn't want to pay some extra money to the right owners of the ''Conan The Barbarian'' brand and said:''give Arnold's character a different name.''
@@orcatwar9810 Red Sonya (note the y) was a character created by Robert E. Howard (The creator of Conan) for the historical fiction story "The Shadow of the Vulture" Roy Thomas and Marvel essentially took away Sonya's guns gave her a broadsword and chain mail as well as taking inspiration from other female warrior characters Howard created such as Dark Agnus, adapted the Vulture story to stand in as a Conan story gave her the backstory they wanted and you have Red Sonja (note the j) a "new" character. So yes her and Conan regularly crossed paths in his Marvel days as well as in the newspaper strip. However Dynamite now has the rights to Red Sonja. She had a couple of further crossovers with Conon during Dark Horses run with REH's properties and I wouldn't be surprised if after a few years of Titan's run that just started, that there will be more crossovers.

At this point, you're practically obligated to drag this out until you can announce the summer of Schwarzenegger while standing in a foot of snow. Wait, does it snow where you live?

i recall a movie like this or something but theres a sean were someone is getting passed a camera by crawling painted the same as the checker colored floor
My understanding was that he did not want to do it, I don't think it fit in with the public image he wanted to cultivate nor was he impressed after his experiences on Destroyer. He only did it as a favor since Conon essentially made his career possible and agreed with the understanding that it would be a bit part so he accepted a bit parts pay... THEN of course he ended up filming several weeks and was advertised as the main draw even though he didn't get payed for it... Needless to say he was not happy. This probably the single biggest reason he never did a King Conan movie and refused to do what eventually became Kull. But he got to bang Bridgette after just getting married so there is that.
7:13 Skallagrim and Shadiversity would advise against that one because its crossguard is too ornate to serve its intended function. Plus, you can't unscrew and throw the pommel to end your opponent rightly. 7:35 Is it just me or does this premise remind you of the story of Taarna from Heavy Metal (1981)? 13:54 I've never understood why video game characters who have a weapon still waste time kicking their opponent. If it's done as a flimflam sort of the thing just to throw the opponent off, that's one thing, but to use it as an attack is a waste of energy when you're holding a weapon. 16:35 Probably based on Atlantean technology. 17:13 Thanatos first, then Eros. 21:26 "Criterion" is the singular.
It took losing his entire tribe, including his parents, being sold into slavery, then having fight to the death in lifetime of gruesome cage fights, and being trained by master swordsmen, and martial artists. For Conan to become the badass barbarian that he is, but Sonja gets touched on the head by a ghost, and shazam she's a great warrior. That is some bullshit right there.
Well at least she apparently trained at the mako populated temple for several years but still 90% of that time could have been spent on thumb wrestling for all we know
Arnold is totally the friend who played ahead and is now over leveled to play with his friends, he tries to let his friends complete the quest on there own only coming in when he's needed.
Kalidor is the alias that Conan goes under when wanting to go on an adventure. cos he has become a ruling lord of a country. he still has the need for a thrill. Red Sonja was on the way.

2:25 Yeah, sure don't let her find her own strength through hard work and training like the big boys do, just have her fairy godmother magic her into a warrior. That's not sexist or anything. 12:49. What the fuck? There's a giant spider to the Queens left. Where was THAT the rest of the movie?
That was the Queen's pet, Fluffy. He was a lover not a fighter. (Oh God - I just realized how that joke could be misconstrued!)

The acting in that movie is almost as bad as Decker's "accidental" trip in the outdoor scene.

I always thought that Kalador was Conan's descendant after the Aquilonian empire fell.
