@dianal8387 is it okay to use tret once a week and use a retinol serum like cerave's on the other days of the week. I started using 0.25 tret after using cerave resurfacing retinol for a year but when I use tret more than once a week my skin starts chipping and gets extremely dry. I have to say though, it's only been 3 months since I started using tretinoin.
I am 59 years of age and I start using retinol about two years ago. I have season huge improvement in my skin. People say I look younger than what I am. I am 59 and someone thought I was just 49. I’ll take it.😊
Started Retinol in my early 20’s. Switched to Retin A in my 30’s. Now at 46 my skin is better than most of my friends my age. I do use a bunch of other products/actives but Retin A is always the main course!
Well he’s wrong. Zoe Draelos and the Brother of the guy who invented Tretinojn did a study and proved 0.25% tretinoin achieved much faster results than 0.1% tret
I use Tretinoin every night and my Castor Oil is the last thing I do every night right before bed, also. Why alternate and lose out on one or the other every day?
I’ve been using tretinoic acids for almost 40 years and my skin is firm, plump and there is no skin damage. Needlessness to say I have never sat in the sun. Thank you, doctor.
I have used Retin A 0.05 for over 30 years. Yes 30. Probably started because I had acne after my daughter was born. But now I wonder if the benefits of Glycolic acid. I remember my dermatologist prescribed it for the scars. I am totally scar free and also use hialuronic acid for over 6 years. I’m turning 64 and have wonderful completion.
I use CeraVe OTC Retinol serum (with Ceramides and Hylauronic acid). I don't use a lot. That is the key. I apply it each evening with moisturizer before I go to sleep. No purging, no peeling. Great results. In the mornings, I use Vitamin C serum with moisturizer and sunscreen. Love it!
@@ujuonwudiwe7308 I use Retinol at night after I wash my face, with moisturizer. Vitamin C Serum in the morninging after I wash my face. Then apply moisturizer and sunscreen.
I have been using Retionol for six years.not only on my face but also on my hands.some of my original dark spots have almost disappeared.it’s really good for me ❤
Def don’t be afraid to use it around your eyes!!! Some ppl advise otherwise out of fear of increased dryness/wrinkles, but it’s decreased my wrinkles esp caused by eyeshadow/makeup use. Been using 0.1 prescription since I was 18 for acne. Didn’t help my deep pitted scars as much, so Ive been using a microneedle stamp carefully at home. 10/10 results.
I have been using Retin-A for 40 years Consistently. I LOVE IT and would not want to he without it EVER! My skin feels like its not being Fed if I don't use it fir even One Day. I am 64 and people say I look nowhere near it. I have been fortunate enough to be Able to get it and I am 🙏 Grateful to The Max!
You are absolutely right .From the moment I started using retinol as a night cream in combination with niacinamide but also as an eye mask, I have seen a noticeable difference in my skin.
Hello there! 😊I'm on a similar evening regimen... niacinamide serum, 0.05 retin A, moisturizer, and eye cream. May I ask whether you apply the niacinamide before your retinol? Lately, I've been wondering whether applying retinol first could possibly make it more potent giving us further results? But then I'm unsure about niacinamide not being fully absorbed due to the retin A layer...
Yes, yes, yes and yes.... I'm 60ish and I use the Vitamin C (with freulic acid & Vit E etc.), retin-A 0.05% nightly, Sunscreen EVERYDAY. I also incorporate glycolic acid twice a week on elbows, knees and my big toe (yeah i have reasons lol) and my skin is constantly getting compliments and I show them photos of me where I was unable to leave my house years before due to my skin flares of redness, and it was out of control Sugar (glucose) levels and when I got that under control and then focused on my skin routine, it has paid off in spades. This is a LONG GAME ladies, at least for me, no overnight miracles. Enjoy you
I can’t use Retin A too harsh even at low concentrations. I do use Retinaldehyde which has really made a huge difference in how my skin is aging. A must for me!
@@sczybaTruOlogy Advanced Retinal Serum or Osmosis. I prefer the TruOlogy. Its sold on Brianna Stanko’s website. She has a very informative UA-cam channel and works with great doctors and formulators in the skincare industry.
Been using Tretinoin for about four years now. Slowly worked my way up to 0.1%, thankfully I don't have super sensitive skin. That, with a solid skincare routine which includes a good ph balancing toner, Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, EyeMax AlphaRet Overnight Cream formulated specifically for the delicate eye area (results are "WOW!"), growth factor serums (one for eye area, and one for face), and sunscreen. I also use most of the products I use on my face on my neck and chest as well. I dermaplane and use a great exfoliator every so often (just a heads up, don't do these two things together, it's way too harsh) And a BIG one...I've stayed completely out of the sun and tanning beds for almost a decade. My skin looks better now at 45 than it did in my 30's. I had punished the crap outa my skin with the sun and had so much sun damage! It sounds like a lot of work, but it becomes habit and routine, and so worth it when you start seeing and feeling the results!
I’ve used Retinals and Vitamin C off and on the last 10 years but once I kicked it up DAILY, I can see the difference! Consistency is key… thank you Dr. Karam~
I’ve started and stopped tretinoin multiple times over the past few years. The thing I couldn’t deal with was the dry, tight, flaky skin. I’ve now been using tretinoin 0.1% for over a year and my skin looks great. I stopped buying expensive moisturizers after seeing another one of your videos… I’ve been using Vanicream and Cerave moisturizer which completely stopped the dry flaky skin. I will never stop using tretinoin now! So thank you Dr. Karam! 🙏
I use retinol for 10 years and very happy with the quality of my skin. Recently i started using differin, as it is stronger than retinol and can buy over counter. I heard a lot of positive comments about it , but not sure if it is a good replacement to retinol?!
I used obagi on and off because my skin turns red and up to the point of irritation all the time. I continued using it, finished two tubes of 1% retinol with other serums and creams for about two years and half. Then i used kielhs retinol with vit c plus my obagi .5% on top of the kiehl . About 5mos now, my skin looks plumpy, no more creepy lines. I am not going back to my dermatologist anymore for any of those procedures! ❤❤❤❤
There is one important factor you haven't mentioned: the effect of vitamin A on the liver. My father was a doctor and when I was teenager he prescribed Retin-A for my acne, however he was monitoring my liver levels closely because he told me right away that the the major concern was liver damage. Can you do a quick video about that?
I'm worried too... It is strong and travels in our body.. i do use it but twice a week and glycolic acid twice a week too... Other 3 days I just apply moisturizer... I use 0.25 on my face and 0.5 on knees, neck and feet to remove hyperpigmentation.... But last night when i applied it, my heart rate was very fast and i was worried... I want to know how it effects our bodies
Vit e aha and Bha are mostly useless The aha and bhas are just exfoliators. They’re literally advanced cleansers nothing more Vit E is just an antioxidant. Vitamin C and Vitamin A is where the magic is
Thank you for your knowledge. I have been following you for about 2 years or more. My skin has improved phenomenally and so has my self confidence! I can’t tell you how much you have helped me with my aging journey! Again, thanks dr. Karam❤
I’ve been using it unknowingly for 20 plus years and mow in my late 50s, my sister, aunt and friends couldn’t stop gushing about how good my skin texture is. People doesn’t believe I’m in my 50s. Because they noticed there’s no wrinkles. I’m so happy I’ve been doing it for years. 😊 And I don’t need to go to those expensive beauty centers for treatment that’s high maintenance and temporary only.
I'm serious about anti-aging and skin care! I'm 63 years old, but think I'm 40.😆 I do use retinol, never had any problem with it. Consistency is the key with our skin care routines. Thank for this great explanation of how retinol works and why we need it. ❤
Genetics also very important...living near no pollution and eating very well! I am in forties never done retinol but skin of 20s. I am starting know. Eat well: Orange a day, greenleaf veggies, Omega real fish and meat. Bone broth os very good. And exercise moderate also stimulates collagen.
For very personal health reasons I’ve been indoors practically the lasts 16 years, rarely being in the sun. I guess because of that I’ve been looking younger than my age for a long time. But two years ago I begun using tretinoin and six months ago I started using red light therapy. That is all I use. And nobody believes me when I tell them my age. I look at least 15 years younger, if not more. My husband and I are the same age and recently someone thought I was his daughter and he doesn’t look old at all. RETINOIDS work!
I am 61 and started with a low dose retinol in my 40's. I buy the best skin care I can afford and just do it! Do it. Start. I tolerate it well so I upped the concentration a few years ago to 0.1, 0.05 on my neck and chest even. I use it on the backs of my hands too, hands will age you. Seriously my skin looks better at 61 than it did at 50. Several of my friends have commented about how good my is...firm...very few wrinkles, etc. but when I tell them what I do their eyes glaze over. I don't a million steps...cleanse, retinol, moisturize at night and cleanse, vit c, sunscreen in the AM. It takes seconds! So they can just look 5+ years older than me!
I'm like you wife, I've been in retinol since my 18, 56 years old now with very young skin. Have only a lifting last year , more to lift my face skin. Thank you, Dr. I love your videos.
My routine consists of many products. My night routine begins with a double cleanse, and 3 times a week I’ll also use an exfoliating cream cleanse. Then on a dry face I use retinal on face & neck. I protect the area around my eyes & lips with either Vaseline or castor oil. Then after it’s absorbed , I’ll use a moisturizer. In the morning I’ll rinse my face with water, then while it’s still damp I’ll use a vitamin CE serum, then a high SPF sunscreen. If I’m not going out for the day, I’ll skip the sunscreen and use snail mucin after I cleanse & moisturize. 3 times a week I’ll use Glycolic pads after the morning cleanse. I’m considering purchasing a red light mask to also incorporate in my daily routine. Of niacinamides, peptides & ceramides are in my moisturizers. BTW- I had a face & neck lift, upper & lower eyelids, and fat transfer 8 months ago. I will be getting a laser in the near future. I am 68 yrs young, but look like I’m in my early 50’s. So ladies-it’s real 👍🏻 get on the skin care train 😃
My approach when I am preparing for a treatment such as microneedling, is change the use of it to every other day from day 10-5 and then stop until the treatment. During the healing proces I apply this same approach, but then the other way around. Works really well in my case and never experience any inconvenience or adjustment from my skin.
I started with differin gel and used that for about 2 years everyday, and then I switched to Tretinoin. I didn’t have any purging with it. I absolutely love it. I’m 41 and I still get ID’d and people think I’m much younger than my age. I’ll use it for the rest of my life!
When the peeling begins and the redness starts, I use vitamin A and D ointment it is made from cod liver oil. You can find it in the baby section. It completely takes the flakiness away and all you need is a thin layer very extremely thin layer and it doesn’t even feel like there is anything on the skin after absorption but it has to be a thin layer for that.
My skin definitely has benefited from Vitamin C, B5 and, Azelaic Acid and Retinol and SPF. I use a 1% retinol every night without any irritation by putting it on last after moisturizer. Gives my skin a little protection from irritation but the retinol still gets into the skin.
Very informative - and a beautiful skin to look at while listening. Thank you. I just have a question: Would you recommend retinol for people with rosacea?
I am 55, and didn't start using tretinoin until about 2 years ago, and I use it 7 days a week. It took me the better part of a year to get over the dry, irritated, inflamed, etc, skin, but now it's great. I kept with it, and my skin is incredible. I did Retin A when I was a teenager, and remembered the irritation from back then, so I knew to stick it out. I've always used the 1%, as I only want to get the best, maximum results. I use it on my full face, eyes, neck, and hands, with no problem. I don't sandwich it in between moisturizer, either. If I feel I need moisture, I use it the next day. I do that maybe every couple of weeks, just because, but I don't feel I need it. I feel moisturizer dilutes the tretinoin, and limits the results. Also, when I use my DermaPen (started 6 mos ago), I use it with my tretinoin. After that, it's baby butt soft❤
I feel like starting retinol is like starting running. The first few times are very hard, but if you trust the process and keep going for runs, and then after some time it becomes enjoyable and you start to see the benefits. Skin purging is hard but over time it’s worth it.
I stopped using it because I read that it might get in and negatively affect your thyroid…and I have Hashimotos…my skin has definitely gotten worse since stopping…do you know if the retin A affects the thyroid?
Great great job at explaining every topic… Do you have a video on peptides and growth factors? I currently use retinol in my routine and love it. I want to incorporate peptides or growth factors and want your opinion on them. :):)
Thank you for this, I tried Tretinoin for 2 years. What a nightmare. My skin was rarely not red, peeling and irritated. I gave up. I now am doing as you suggested, a much lower dosage of retinol twice a day. So much better.
Hi, I am 70 this year and my skin is really bad... thin skin, lots of deep wrinkles (ex-ski instructor)! Question; am I too late to start using retinol products?
Topical is good, and also take Collagen peptides like vital proteins in coffee in morn and sustained release vitamin c 2x a day and omega 3 oils like carlson elite omega and d3k2 at least 5000 iu daily You will thank thank me in a few years.
Absolutely you can use. it’s not late. But notice that START it at lower concentrate, pea size and only once in a week, then gradually increase the days. You MOST use physical sunscreen every day and reapply every 2 hours. If you had a vitamin C under the sunscreen it gonna work much better. ☺️
can’t say enough about brand name Altreno - it’s full strength tretinoin, not a derivative / retinol. It’s micronized and suspended in a hyaluronic acid formula; I can use it every day with no irritation!
Thank you. I was very consistent for several years, I started taking prescription tretinoin from my early 30’s and I’m now 51. I bought a radio frequency at home device and I’ve been using consistently, three times a week for few weeks, then twice a week. LED mask also and hoping it will help continue with healthy skin. I do use some ZP Skin Health products, but one day, I will order your products to try. I live in Canada.
@@DarlaRenae Yes. I do LED in the morning for ten minutes, do my other regular morning routine and go to work. The frequency of using it should be followed my the package manual book. Retinol at night, sometimes I use lighter strength during the day with excellent quality sunscreen that is reapplied every couple of hours.
I'm really glad that you touched on using vitamin c and retinol together. I wasn't sure if that was okay. I've been using vitamin c since I was 23 years old and people are always shocked that I'm 40. I don't really have any noticeable loss of collagen and my only static lines are laugh lines. I'm thinking it might be time to start using a retinoid before I reach menopause in about 10 years.
I went for a facial yesterday and I wrote down that I use tretinoin daily and vitamin C. I am 56 y/o. She told me I was thinning my skin out even more by using tretinoin. She recommended Procel anti-aging cell renewal tx.
I was told same by my facialist and I ran away from her place lol because in my opinion she knew nothing about skin when she said that. I trust a dermatologist more than any aesthetician .
Hi I just came across your video,, so happy I did it was amazing what I learned,, I’m 52 only been using Retnol about 6 months and I’ve found a big difference in my skin only wish I used it in my 30s onwards ❤🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
I bought your Trifecta (cleanser, serum and illuminate) last year but was unable to use it because of the strong floral perfume. I see you have changed the packaging; is the new version of the Trifecta without perfume? I would love to use your products, thank you for your answer. Great channel, very clear and informative. Thank you!
I just started acclimating my skin gradually and know I use it ever day, don't seem to have the problem with getting back on once I have to get off for a time.
I was recently off tret for two weeks and had no problem picking up where I left off. I'm thinking it might be easy to restart before a skin cycle (~28 days) has passed.
I use vitamin C and sunscreen every morning.... retinol and moisturizer every night. After 7 months of daily use, I've seen amazing improvement. I'm 61, so I'll never look 25 again, but my skin has greatly improved, and it wasn't that expensive. I use CeraVe products, which have been great. I've experimented with more expensive brands, but I saw no real difference.

I started using 0.25 tret after using cerave resurfacing retinol for a year but when I use tret more than once a week my skin starts chipping and gets extremely dry. But now I wonder if the benefits of Glycolic acid. I remember my dermatologist prescribed it for the scars.
I am totally scar free and also use hialuronic acid for over 6 years. I’m turning 64 and have wonderful completion.

Just a confirmation to keep doing Retin A. Thank you for your honesty!!
Def don’t be afraid to use it around your eyes!!! Some ppl advise otherwise out of fear of increased dryness/wrinkles, but it’s decreased my wrinkles esp caused by eyeshadow/makeup use.

I've been using it for two years and I'm 54 and haven't seen much difference but I'll continue to use it and hope
I’ve used Retinals and Vitamin C off and on the last 10 years but once I kicked it up DAILY, I can see the difference! Consistency is key… thank you Dr. Karam~
Consistency is KEY! Thanks for sharing and watching.
Karam! 🙏
Where I can I order that tretinoin please?

I want to know how it effects our bodies
for me retinol is the best , compare to vit c , e , or aha , bha. and if you combinate together your skin will glow
Vit e aha and Bha are mostly useless
The aha and bhas are just exfoliators. They’re literally advanced cleansers nothing more
Vit E is just an antioxidant.
Vitamin C and Vitamin A is where the magic is

Genetics also very important...living near no pollution and eating very well! I am in forties never done retinol but skin of 20s. I am starting know. Eat well: Orange a day, greenleaf veggies, Omega real fish and meat. Bone broth os very good. And exercise moderate also stimulates collagen.
Hello there from Greece! Thank you for sharing this knowledge, Doc!❤
I’ve been using a thin layer of Vaseline after Retin A at night to help with the dryness.

Thank you for this informative video. I'm 58 and have been too scared to use retinols but now will look into the various options.
I'm like you wife, I've been in retinol since my 18, 56 years old now with very young skin. Have only a lifting last year , more to lift my face skin. Thank you, Dr. I love your videos.
Does lifting helps tighten the skin? Cause I've been experiencing skin sagging lately and I'm only 22😢.
I love that you went to such depths to help us understand the biology of Retin A. Great video.
What happens if you don't stop retinol and then get microneedling?
I started with differin gel and used that for about 2 years everyday, and then I switched to Tretinoin. I didn’t have any purging with it. I absolutely love it. I’m 41 and I still get ID’d and people think I’m much younger than my age. I’ll use it for the rest of my life!
What make do you use?
You very clear in your explanation since morning have been watching more than 10 of your videos! Learning so much u r the best
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you're finding them helpful!
I suffer from melasma. What about the sunny summer months? Sun protection has never helped me against new spots.
I recommend you use a lower dose until your skin builds up tolerance. You don’t have to deal with the ups and downs
Me too vit c and sunscreen in the morning..retinol at night❤
Thank you so much for such a wonderful explanation !!!!!!🎉🙏🏼
I feel like starting retinol is like starting running. The first few times are very hard, but if you trust the process and keep going for runs, and then after some time it becomes enjoyable and you start to see the benefits. Skin purging is hard but over time it’s worth it.
I stopped using it because I read that it might get in and negatively affect your thyroid…and I have Hashimotos…my skin has definitely gotten worse since stopping…do you know if the retin A affects the thyroid?
Which retinol do you recommend for the body?

I just started acclimating my skin gradually and know I use it ever day, don't seem to have the problem with getting back on once I have to get off for a time.
I was recently off tret for two weeks and had no problem picking up where I left off. I'm thinking it might be easy to restart before a skin cycle (~28 days) has passed.
I use vitamin C and sunscreen every morning.... retinol and moisturizer every night. After 7 months of daily use, I've seen amazing improvement.
