    1. Go slow
    2. Use it at night
    3. Use it with a moisturizer
    4. Use SPF in the AM
    5. Remain consistent
    6. Remain patient (at least 3 months)
    7. Use it around the eyes
    8. Don’t use it in the morning
    9. Don’t use it with vitamin C (retinol in PM, Vit C in the AM)
    10. Don’t use it while pregnant
    11. Don’t use it with skin treatments
    12. Don’t use too much (consistency is the key)
    13. Don’t quit
Still, watch the video for other useful information 👌

@@mirasingh7428 Retinol products can be used on any parts that look crepey, including hands, neck, elbows, and face. Because retinol-based products can cause the skin to flake, its best to apply a moisturizer over them. You should use a really good moisturizer, like uriage xémose cérat relipidant anti-irritations,cerave...overnigand morning spf is important.

My dermatologist told me that using it on the neck is iffy. While sleeping, your neck usually has some folds in it, and the retinol can gather and cause irritation. That did happen to me.i had two itchy red lines. I use it on my chest area that has damaged skin, and he said that was OK. I see it working after only a few weeks.

Retinol around the eyes works wonders! I used to have DEEP lines underneath my eyes. After using Retinol for six months, the deep lines have COMPLETELY disappeared. I am shocked! Also, the Retinol has reduced my dark circles significantly! I seriously look 20 years younger just from using Retinol on a consistent basis for six months straight. This stuff is golden!

Do you use it around the eye areas?
I’ve been using low dose about twice a week for the past 6 months. No reds or irritation for me, but since day one I noticed that the days I use retinol cream my eyes feel dry and uncomfortable. I’ve also seen comments under YT videos about using retinol and causing permanent dry eyes (when I was looking up information to decide if I am going to try), however there are more videos in which doctors demonstrate applying retinol cream on the Whole Face including eye areas… this has prevented me to use retinol on a higher frequency…

I cycle ... one night 0.3%, one night 1%, sandwiched between multi peptide serum and moisturiser. That way I have no irritation or dryness at all. Vitamin C is in the morning routine. I did see small changes fairly quickly (did not introduce the 1% right away ... that came after months of microdosing), but now a good 2 years in it makes a huge difference. It really builds up.

    • @Tikap73

@@lori4423 Of course. I use either the multi peptide serum by The Ordinary (formerly known as "Buffet" now simply called Multi Peptide Serum) or No 7 Future Renew Serum, which I am testing at the moment. It feels great but I am not sure it justifies the much higher price point to the Ordinary one. It sure is nicer in texture though. At daytime I use the Vichy Mineral 89 serum for Hyaluronic Acid. It is fairly simple, does not smell of anything and is super refreshing and light weight. I love it very much. So if you just want to go for a strong hydration with very low risk of any irritation I find that a great option as well. After the retinol I use the Vitamin E night cream from the Body Shop. Again nothing fancy. It apparently has a bit of a scent but I smell nothing (I do not like heavy scents and they tend to break me out). I feel all I need is a bit richer, thicker simple cream to seal it all in and keep me moisturised over night. Not really aiming to add more active ingredients there - just enabling all I put on to work without the skin getting dry and irritated.

I'm 30 and I talked to a friend about skin, after posting my new skincare routine consisting of active ingredients. She didn't say it outright, but I got the feeling that she basically think skincare is a bit of a waste of time and money, since ageing is mostly due to sun exposure and genes anyway. She is totally right! The way she put it made me think to myself "well, I do what I want and your decision is not my decision". Being careful with SPF, taking collagen and using active ingredients are great non invasive ways of preventing premature ageing.
It also annoys me a little extra because she's 27, her collagen is peaking, and she probably feels amazing. I know I looked my best at 26-27. So it's easy for her to brush anti-aging away, because it's literally not even on her mind.
I'm definitely doing my skincare routine from now on, and we'll see what happens when she comes into her 30's. I'm quite certain at some point she'll ask me about my skincare because she realises she wants to take care of her skin, too. It's happened before lol :)

I still have a little acne scars as a result but not only is my acne clear but I still do not have any fine lines or wrinkles at the ripe young age of 40.

@@remahb2217 my routine is a bit “extra” but I work from home. I don’t mind being extra because my skin care routine is literally my favorite part of my day as I find it relaxes me. But in the mornings I cleanse my face, I use a vitamin c toner, a vitamin c serum along with a drop of CO-Q10 serum, then I let it dry, I use my prescription azelaic acid gel, let it dry, I then use a Avene’s RetriNAL bakuchoil serum (this is not a retinol), moisturizer with 2 drops of vitamin C oil, I do a mini face massage and then I apply my sunscreen (elta md spf 46 tinted mineral).
At night I double cleanse with an oil cleanser, then a gel-based gentle cleanser, orange blossom water toner, peptide serum, let it dry, a niacinimide serum, let it dry for 30 minutes, then I use my tretinoin (I’m at 0.01% now) and moisturizer and I top it off with a little aloe vera gel. This routine may be too much for some people but this works for me, my skin is wrinkle free and I only have a break out or two when my period is coming or if I’ve been eating too much dairy (which is ice cream for me in the summer).
On the weekends I’ll exfoliate and when I’m exfoliating, I don’t use tretinoin. I’ll exfoliate with a glycolic acid mask and/or a glycolic acid serum.

I would love it if you would discuss the differences between retin-a as a synthetic vitamin A and how retinol is typically from natural vitamin A. Studies always interchange these both as the same product but I prefer as a Med esthetician to only use and encourage uses of non toxic ingredients. Therefore, I recommend a line with natural retinols. I have heard damaging effects from retin-a and would love to hear your take on this. Thank you

There is no such thing as toxic ingredients, that’s just false marketing by “natural” based skincare companies to sell you their products instead. Tretnoin (brand name Retina) is the most studied and proven ingredient to actually make a difference when it comes to anti-aging with little to no side affects other than initial irritation.

IT IS WORTH TO WATCH THE FULL VIDEO . I’m working in a retail and sometimes they assigned me to maintain the beauty products . So many brands and seeing those products really confusing just like what you just said vitamin c and retinol were not compatible to use at the same time . We really need the knowledge like this before we use any products .

I am 78, I've used tretinoin for over 2 years every day.
My question is; I put a peas sized amount all over my face but always after applying moisturizer!
You mentioned putting it straight onto the skin and applying moisturizer afterwards.
To me this sounds more logical, is this really ok to do, and can I apply it to my neck?

Dr. AmirKaram, I follow you and love your channel. You are so right, I see why people abandon Retinol and they drop it immediately from the redness, flaking and sometime burning. After seeing your video I stuck with it this time. My face is on fire sometimes .....The flaking won't stop but Im hanging in. But trust me I wish I could go under Local Anesthesia to tolerate this stuff. All jokes aside, Im seeing a lot of improvement in my skin. Im loving it!! The wrinkles smoothing out and glow.... Its all coming back. Im sticking with it and have a true routine with all products you mentioned! Thank you!!

Thank you for a great skin school video Dr. Karam. I am so glad you did this video as Vit. C serum is something I like to use and I've just gotten my first Trifecta order and I was wondering about my Vit. C so I am very happy I don't have to worry about that. Of course I will share this with the ladies in my family and my friends too and I do most of the time anyway. Thanks again because now I can just give the many skincare products I have to someone else or donate them to the Ladies Center. I am now using only three steps. Thank you so much again Dr. Karam.

I love this video! It was so informative. I knew nothing about retinol before and had recently started looking into it because I want a more youthful and healthy looking skin. I do have some questions that I think weren't answered:
    1. Can you use retinol on other parts of your skin like neck, shoulders, top of hands.. etc?
    2. If you do experience the reactions mentions, are we supposed to continue using retinol on the inflamed skin? Or do wait for it to subside and restart again?
    Thank you!!

Can you tell us how much of retinal that we should use? I've heard it from some people and dermatologists say that to use a pea size on your face every time when you use it, is it true? Or should I use more or less that that?
And also, what time that should we put on separately if we wanna use Glycolic Acid, Vitamin C, and Retinol? And maybe also Salicylic Acid?

    • @luv2garden132
      @luv2garden132 Рік тому +1

There should be clear instructions with whatever retinoid you're 😮using. If it's tretinoin, it's indeed a pea size. It's been way too long since I used an OTC retinol, I don't remember how much they said. I used Maelove retinaldehyde and used enough to cover my face. It's in liquid form. I use Curology now, you use 1 full pump.
To use vitamin c, glycolic or salicylic, use those in the AM, the retinoid in the PM. Vitamin C can be used with glycolic or lactic, as long as it doesn't cause irritation. I wouldn't incorporate salicylic acid with all of them, particularly in the PM with a retinoid. If I used salicylic in the AM, I'd only use vitamin c as long as it didn't cause irritation. Niacinamide helps reduce irritation, redness and peeling that can happen with using harsh skincare, particularly retinoids.
