thank you so much for the great review. i was afraid it wouldn't have the power being 20v. this will work perfectly for me. my local home depot has them on sale atm for $250.
Your analysis was spot on. I too like the fact that the DeWalt batteries are the best for recharging over and over again in multi tool applications. One more thing that you did not mention but is important is that the batteries should be stored and charged at room temperature during the cold winter months for extra life.
I just got this mower last month and have already gotten about 12 uses out of it, and although its ease of use is fantastic, the mower is not strong enough to generate enough suction to really lift the grass and get a clean cut. I find that it misses a lot of spots or just pushes tall grass down altogether.
I have a bunch of 4 ah batteries I bought in 2014. I have them stored inside always and always holding a full charge. I have had them on many job sites used all day long. Haven't had a single issue with any of them. I was always scared they wouldn't last long but they lasted very well. I bought them in set of 2 for 99$ Canadian in 2014. Same 2 batteries cost 179+ now. Glad I bought so many back then. Just ordered the mower with the two 12 ah flexvolt batteries. I think I'm more excited about the batteries than the mower 😂
Update time: I have mowed 3 times now and absolutely love this mower. It is light weight, quiet, great battery life compared to some other electric mowers, compact for storage. It has been very dependable. I have a small yard and have been able to get 2 mows on one charge. After 2nd mow I charge the batteries and it is ready to go for 2 more cuts. This is my first electric mower and I am very impressed with it. For me the biggest Pro is the battery life. Since these batteries take a long time to charge it is nice to be able to get 2 cuts in before I have to charge again. I have one Con and that is they skimped on the paint job on the undercarriage. To fix this I just bought some clear coat spray paint and gave it 2 coats of paint. Now that should protect it from rust better. I looked at other electric mowers and am glad I went with this one. 👍👍👍
Used mine for the first time and wanted to mention the 10 hr batteries lasted maybe 45 minutes and also wanted to mention in heavy or tall grassy weeds, mower does get overwhelmed pretty easy and quits, just and to restart often. I imagine with normal lawn this wouldn’t be an issue. Otherwise it does clean up nice with a spray off. Now I must admit I purchased this 18 months ago and charged the battery up then, and finally decided I would tackle an area that the county usually handles. Batteries still had 3 bars showing before I started and may be the reason I only got about 40 minutes out of them.
Great video ! I have an EGO 21 in. Self propelled mower (got on sale for $499) and mow about an 8,000 sq ft lawn. It has a 7.5 amp hour Battery (about $400 American) quite expensive . It has a plastic deck and I can only mow about 75% of the lawn before the battery runs out. It has only on lever to adjust mowing height, which is very nice. The handle is adjustable and I'm short at 5"2", so I like the ergonomics. It doesn't pick up off the lawn either and it's because they try to get the most battery life by using a blade that is basically flat, they do offer better lift cut blades, but it sucks the battery power to run it. I love this thing, it's light, it mows well and I would highly recommend it if it weren't a power hog. I intend to buy another battery. probably a smaller 5 or 6 Amp hour battery that's cheaper to help me finish the lawn. Now, I take a break for an hour, it charges quickly and finish it up, which isn't a problem for me, I'm 72 yrs old and I need a break in the hot summer anyhow, lol! Not recommended for commercial applications - IMO. Like Dewalt, EGO batteries work in all their power application tools which does make it nice. It was recommended as the best battery power mower by Consumer reports.
We have had this gen 2 mower for 3 years. We mow 1/4 acre of lawn (bermuda) in the scorching Texas heat 1-2 times per week. The mower has been flawless and has performed very well for our family. We have mowed through very high grass for neighbors you just have to set it high, go a little slower and then mow again with a proper height.
Really appreciate this review, a lot of reviews online had me second guessing getting one of these but it sounds like the trade offs are exactly what I'm comfortable with. Thanks tim
Mine is serving well but I haven't used too much yet. I bought it for our main yard area and we still use an old Craftsman mower for the rough areas of the Homestead.
I side discharge almost 100 percent of the time and what I do is throw that plastic insert aside and use a stick or small piece of wood a little bit thicker than one of your fingers to keep the spring loaded door on the side of my gas mower open and the mower hardly ever gets plugged up. Throws the grass out further. Sometimes I've experienced small debris flying out such as sand that hits my face but only when I run it over my sand and gravel mix driveway to get to the next patch of grass to cut. Cut through 6 inches plus grass easily and yes it's thick grass on most of my quarter acre lawn.
The grass catching is dependent on moisture, the machine using gas or not and power of blades has nothing at all to do with grass sticking underneath or plugging chute hole... Mow on dry days, never clogs cause you dont mow wet grass 😂
Thanks for the great review. I am retiring my 16 yr old black and decker rechargeable. I love my dewalt tools for hvac so i was thinking of getting one of these to replace it since i love dewalt's batteries.
I have an EGO and it has the same issue picking up stuff or lifting the grass. One of my two biggest issue. The other is it is so light it bounces across parts of my lawn. The DeWalt's steel deck eliminates this.
I have the same machine and I bought it for a similar reason I cut grass for 3 days a week and use it frequently for my first of the day so I can start earlier and by the time I am done cutting one yard and we're not talking anything huge the batteries are starting to get weak also the plastic tabs on the adjustment have broken off of mine that being said I do like being able to start earlier the cut quality definitely doesn't seem very good after using commercial lawn mowers day in and day out however I do run the machine with two nine amp batteries rather than 10 and maybe that is causing an issue thank you for the video and your time
So two full summers ago I bought two of these so they each came with 210 amp hour batteries and we would mow. Let’s say six average residential lawns per day and I would go through both sets of batteries on one mower so we would swap them out for some flex volt batteries afterwards and make it through the day but I really love the run time I get somewhere between 45 and 60 minutes of constant run time and that’s a lot more mowing than most people think.
Mulching is a pain in the spring. It seems to die often if your mulching. Two 10am he batteries were 249 each. I was buying two batteries and getting free lawn mower
I agree, but all in all its a decent mower I've owned since last week. I have a half acre lawn and it mowed the entire yard with 1 bar left. I bought it since my rider is currently down and I still need to mow the lawn.
I live in central Wisconsin & I purchased mine in March during a cold spell, from the local Fleet Farm, and I couldn't try it out until the end of April. I bought it "On sale" of course for $500! What a disaster! The longest it has run is 25 minutes between charges. I mow .5 acres and don't use the self propelled drive, & the run time appears to be steadily declining. Just because the charger says it's charged means nothing. I need to remove the batteries and put them back on the chargers several times over a couple of hours to get them charged. And then they only last maybe 20 minutes. And the actual mowing is atrocious! It's as though the blade is dull, even when I first took it out of the box. I've mowed my lawn 6 times so far and I've always had to finish with my old old old gas mower with bad rings! I got absolutely screwed!
When you were discussing how the machine doesn't seem to pick up things, my first thought was, why don't you get a high lift blade? Then you mentioned how you can only get blades @ Dewalt. I wonder what's different about these that you couldn't jury rig a more standard blade. Most people don't realize that not all mower blades are the same. You can get high or low lift, mulching, etc. It could be that the mower comes with a crappy blade and that's the issue rather than the mower itself.
So I looked into that a little bit more since I did this last video and I believe what I have found out number one is that the Dewalt uses its own blade but it’s quite a bit lighter weight and I believe the reason for that is is battery tends to be more high speed as opposed to high torque so it doesn’t have the power to spin a really heavy blade now the mower still running two years later I may experiment with it at some point, but the blades that come with it, and you need to replace it with our a very light weight
PS I AM buying this model that has 2 flex volts and is self propelled at $750.00 US. I am just an average home owner and would never cut wet grass as I saw in some other comments. Wet grass, bad deal. Thank you once again for just being honest. I so respect that! Big time! Change your name to Cool Toolman Tim! Because you are!
I looked at one today , your right the ergonomics are based on everyone in the world being over 5’9 , it needs an adjustable push bar big time , even if they added some extra holes to mount the handle lower, it was a no go even before I looked at the rest of it. The steel deck is a excellent addition but I’ve got a big lawn with lots of extra debris, it’s one hit with my Honda, so frustrating as I already have so many dewalt batteries.
@@TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP with energy cost going up, solar charging is the way to go, when I bought it, I was very skeptical, but after a couple of cuts and getting the hang of it, I wouldn't trade it for gas ever again, I'm on the Dewalt platform, I have a lot of Dewalt tools, including the trimmer and blower...saving a lot of money on not having to pay for gas lol.
I have this mower and it shut down on me on the 4th use in the middle of mowing my lawn. I do agree that you should not use it if your lawn is thick and high, it struggles. I ended up buying a gas powered mower and took this one to the Dewalt service center for repairs under warranty. The rep said Dewalt is aware of issues this mower has. just a word of caution.
I been super impressed with mine WITH all the Crab grass I have cut as well AD succulents and Green still planted in ground Tumble Weeds I have abused the crap out of this mower with 4 plus foot tall weeds and it does amazing hit a few Rocks because I live in arizona love how if you hit something hard it immediately stops any recommendations on Better blades then the dewalt blades
In arizona this mower is 499 the 10ah batteries by them selves are 179 a peice 358 bucks for both batteries and 50 bucks for both chargers really actually makes the mower 91 bucks if you go off the batteries and chargers it comes with
It was 399 here in CA. I looked up the price of Batts and chargers and this was a no Brainer. I saw this ran down to home depot and said "take my money." 😂
Great review! Love how you go into the details. What’s the reason for the large amount of negative reviews on the DeWalt electric mowers? Basically the DeWalt products are the only ones having 2 or 3 out of 5 stars when looking at the DeWalt or THD website. That’s what is really throwing me off compared to others - seems to be a bit of a hit or miss situation. Thx
So I’ve had them for three summers now and a couple of things. I think the other companies out there have surpassed the waltz quality for the cordless mowers. They’re an awesome machine they’re well-built, but they just don’t have the power you think they should for the price of them, they work great for me when we were mowing residential lawns every week but a lot of people tend to leave the grass just a little too long sometimes and people who do that are going to have a rough time with the Dewalt? I’ve also heard of some people having some quality control issues with them whether it’s the control board burning up or things like that but my experience with them has been great.
I did a one year on just my weed eater last year so I’m due for a two year in that but I think I will do a one year later video on my entire landscaping set up that’s a great idea
My lawn is always too wet for my landscaper to get to the back half of my property. This would be a nice suppliment, as it’s not heavy enough to sink into the peat.
I have the front drive self propelled in beginning it was great could mow my front and side yard on one charge now it won’t even finish the front yard pull the batteries out and one still has three bars the other is down to one can’t seem to figure it out other than that awesome mower
Thanks for the review! So what is a good homesteader mower? Looking for something not as heavy duty as a brush mower, but can still handle weeds and some hills.
Nice review. Watching this from Ireland. If I could buy this for the price you quoted I'd buy one in an instant. Seems remarkably good value to me. I'm big into the DeWalt tool range and someone who uses a petrol lawnmower regularly I can 't wait to switch to one of these.
I’m really impressed with mine. I will say it doesn’t handle really wet really thick grass that we’ll but as long as you know that going in your golden
So yes it does. I did some testing with it and I found that the 20 V 10 amp hour batteries that come with it give me better performance and of course better run time than the flex volt batteries with them.
[edit] sadly my post purchase experience has been not great. The mower itself is fine, but the battery situation is terrible. Like a number of reviewers I got a bad one. What's worse is DeWALT customer service, completely unresponsive except for a formulaic response to my Home Depot review. :( Great review ... just pul led the trigger on this even though spending $600 cad on a mower is a stretch. Big part of sell is that I can use it with my existing dewalt tools. Can mow way more than I need but thinking my son could use it to make some extra $$ .. so good to hear that it can do multiple lawns!
I've had mine for a couple months. Mine is a 2022 model that came with 2x 10ah batteries. My only complaint is the suction as you mentioned in your video. On one hand it's good that it doesn't pick up rocks. It really is poor at sucking up leaves etc on the ground if they are remotely "stuck" The old gas mower had no problem. I do love the mower however and it is not a deal breaker. I wonder if installing flex volt batteries would give it a little more oomph, have you tried that? The only other thing i miss from my gas model, it had the hose port on the top of the base that i could quick connect a hose to it for a quick clean after use.
I wouldn't say awful, just not great, sucks that I usually side discharge all the time, but I have had some gas mowers that the side discharge wasn't very good either. If someone knows a battery mower that has a really good side discharge I would be interested in buying one.
Thanks for review! Been looking to buy one, but there are couple problems.. 1st - there's just none of them on the market rn (Russia) only the gen1 version. 2nd- price, roughly 800$ for a pack w/o batteries/charger Having a blast w other dewalt products tho.
ThisMar. 2024, almost 2 years later from when your video was posted, I just saw a big orange box store add for a Toro Time Master gas engine, 30 inch cut, walk behind mower for $1699 USD! Now that's inflation!
Thank you, Great review.I wonder if the blades are high lift and/or if you can get a mulching blade. Does anyone know if the blade type would make any difference?
Your pet peeve is more of a blade design issue than mower problem. I’m trying to switch over to electric from gas mowers but I run high lift blades from Oregon on all my mowers and all aspects of mowing are improved vs OEM blades.
You have any experience on how this mower compares to the Milwaukee mower? Undecided on which to get but these 2 are metal chassis at least unlike other electronic mowers that are all plastic.
My batteries died twice on a full charge after 20 minutes. First time I sent the mower back to Home Depot and the sent me another mower with a $100.00 discount for my aggravation. I used it 3 times and no problems but the 4th time after 20 minutes died. The batteries were fully charged and I made sure they were fully pushed into the chargers. So any ideas???
That's my experience too. It is rather weak and dies on the slightest thick patch. Hard to restart as it senses a load and decides it must be a small child rather than grass. I'm generally disappointed.
- I read the reviews. The Craftsman and SKIL battery mower is a $100 LESS with a 4.2 star review (from multiple websites) w/ solid battery life (as advertised). The Dewalt battery mowers? Both the self propel and regular one have a 3-3.5 star review. Everyone's complaint is the battery charge. THAT is the only reason why I have not bought the Dewalt mower yet b/c even though I have a dozen Dewalt tools (and love the idea of the interchangeability), the mower charge seems to be the weakest link.
Great review and Canadian too, eh!👍 "You had me in the first half, Tim." Deal killer-ish for me are the suction and proprietary blades although everything else sounded great. Hm. I wonder if a "High Lift" blade would fix that?
I do probably a couple of times the season I should do it more but I just flip it over and give it a good pressure wash and then at the end of the season if it needs it I’ll give it a good spray paint underneath but the Dewalt deck doesn’t seem to rust nearly as bad as some of the gas ones I’ve had in the past
Canadian detected: Opinion disregarded. Your money is made of beaver pelts held together with maple syrup and loon feathers. Seriously though, nice review... I've been thinking about buying one of these, and this made me think it might be a good investment.
Been looking at that mower however the push mower i see has 2 5ah batteries. The self propelled has the 10ah batteries. What mower do you have? Did the stop supplying the 10ah with the plan old push?
I bought one at the beginning of summer and now it won’t work. Really sad because I liked it. Now I’m returning it. Debating on giving dewalt another shot..
The red light comes on but the blade won’t turn and it is freed up, I’m trying to get a hold of the Dewalt And I give up I’m throwing mine hour and switching brands
The first thing I woudl say is call your nearest service depot that shoudl be under warranty. Secondly make sure your batteries are charged and third I’m guessing it’s a wire connection somewhere because there is nothing else they can go wrong with it
Just bought this mower and excited to use it but I can't figure out how to attach the bag to the mower. The directions suck. Can you please help explain this to me?
I own everything DeWalt and lurched my mower a year ago. The self propelled lever is jammed and I’m having hell reaching the warranty department. Any suggestions warranty or trying to fix it myself?
@@TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP I just picked up the new RWD Dewalt Lawn Mower with the 12ah 20/60v batteries. Your reviews helped with my decision. That thing surprisingly knocks my gas powered one out of the park. Wet grass would bog down my gas one, this chewed right through it. I was only using the 5ah 20v batteries. I’ve been eyeing the 20v edger as I have all of the 20v outdoor equipment and wanted to see what your thoughts were on it. But I will look forward to see your review of the 60v attachment.
I like my handheld dewalt tools…they have held up very well. This mower is not designed well, tho….belt drive instead of direct drive, extra bearings to fail, plastic secondary pulley. They have poor runtime, not enough power to mow tall grass…and expensive. For half the price, a greenworks mower does better, minus a few inches of cut width. This was a mistake, putting a dewalt name on this….because this mower fails in durability, power, and complexity which leads to repairs. no thanks.
If you are going to buy the self propelled one, get the one that has the rear wheel drive, I think the front wheel drive one sucks, but the rear wheel drive one cost a lot more, I have the push model but have used the other ones. I think the Milwaukee is night and day a better mower but it's a thousand dollars.
I’m nervous about recommending any other blades because the Dewalt when it’s so late and so thin I believe it’s designed that way on purpose so that you can get fast speed but it doesn’t bog down the battery powered motor
@@TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP I can't get any dewlt Blades they told me there not avaliable and there is no stock or time frame I have had the mower literally less then a month the blade was bent the moment I Took it out the box was told by dewalt it was a warranty item because it was damaged before installed and put in box but they don't have any
Batteries are the key. Unless your rich you need to plan properly to stay in brand and reduce batteries. 2-20v 10ah batteries are $349. They may be double that in 5 years. Im hoping to charge more and use smaller AH batteries.
Great review. I love my Dewalt tools but based on online reviews and this very informative video I might have to pass. It's too bad cause I have a ton of Dewalt batteries and I normally like their tools.
We had our dewalt mower for about a year now and now I have a problem with it. It starts up but almost immediately shuts off. I bought 2 new batteries and a new charger but that wasn,t the problem. Do you ahave any idea what could be wrong?
I like the idea of battery powered lawn tools (has nothing to do sustainability) but they just aren’t as good or usable as the fad powered versions. I have a trimmer, doesn’t have the power of my old cheap gas powered and cannot do full yard because of that would never consider a mower but just IMO
You gotta take that back if you can’t get 25 mins out of two fully charged 10 ah batteries. You have a defective one. I get near an hour and the official listed runtime is 75 mins
I've owned this mower for about a year now and it's destroyed 4 sets of 10ah xr batteries. Whatever it does, they crap out after 5-10 uses and then the batteries will catastrophically fail and no longer charge.
@@commonsense2469 so I haven’t tried mulching a ton with it but what I have done I woudl say make sure you don’t get it long mulch an inch at a time otherwise it gets plugged up
I've enjoyed DeWalt tools for decades. Remembering what Elon Musk began to charge for his Tesla battery I decided an electric cord lawn mower was best. I'm also smart enough to use it properly. Own another to have new parts handy.
No! I had the first gen DeWalt push mower. No power. This past weekend I bought the DeWalt self propelled RWD with 2 12 Ah flexvolt batteries. It has a compatible runtime with the Ego 10 Ah battery 45-60 minutes. I'm a DeWalt fan boy but their mowers are embarrassing compared to Ego. I have a lot of weeds in my yard. The way I work and the way it rains here in Savannah sometimes I have to cut every 2 weeks. The DeWalt chokes down repeatedly and my Ego never chokes down
My neighbour got one with self-propelled and those two 10 amp hour battery and it struggled with his new thick grass this thing cost him 800$ Canadian and it gets clogged up and it leaves lots of grass clumps. VS my basic 2023 ego that I got on sale for 530$ Canadian it eats the tall grass even when it’s wet after a rainfall, and I mean tall wet grass ZERO issues even my old 18v brush Ryobi would cut and bag better then this dewalt and I paid 300 back in the day for a bundle with leaf blower and string trimmer and 2 4ah battery 😳 and it smokes that dewalt no contest!!! I think dewalt engineered didn’t work too hard on the design of their mower 🤷♂️😒.
@@TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP ego specializes in outdoor power equipment and for dewalt they offer them only to give costumer the option to have one but I don’t think the engineer spend to much time thinking about lawnmower 🤷♂️.
@@TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP I just finished filming a video comparing my neighbour dewalt self propelled mower vs my ego push mower. I still need to edit that video and upload it but the dewalt work fine but I still prefer my ego push mower. I think dewalt is making a model to please costumer but they are not putting a lot of effort in research and development compared to companies like EGO, Ryobi or Milwaukee. But they at least have the option of a lawnmower.
I have had better luck using my flexvolt batteries, I never had any of the not wanting to kick into high speed issues that you said you have had, and I found with my Flexvolt 9ah batteries have a longer runtime then the 10ah 20volt max batteries it came with and for some reason it even seems to have more power too. That and the Flexvolt batteries don't get near as hot as the 10ah 20volt batteries do, so I think the Flexvolts will have a longer life, also you can charge them right way and don't have to wait for ages (like you do with the 20volt batteries) to cool down before you can charge them.
I like this mower a lot. But for me, the batteries don’t last more than 25 minutes. You need multiple sets of the 10 amp batteries to finish the job. If you replace the blade, you will need a blade adaptor, as the dewalt blade takes more of an S shaped connector. Most blades I found are a star shape. Ultimately I’m very disappointed in the battery time.
Fantastic impartial review sir!! I was hesitant in respect of the batteries but after your review and mowing multiple lawns for one charge, I am going to order the self-propelled (front) as only have a typical smaller size residential lawn which is flat and mow weekly. I also have Dewalt leaf blower/chainsaw/string trimmer but those 3 units run off a 5 AH battery not the 10 AH battery like this mower but I assume I can interchange with the mower anyways. I wish Dewalt would have used only one charger rather than 2 chargers. How long is charge time?
Church time is about an hour and a half on my wrap it for port charger just finished up the second full year of mowing with these mowers and they’re starting to take a bit of a beaten, but still not what my typical gas mowers did I’ll get another season of them for sure
@@randomrazr I went with the push on to get the full battery life as the rear wheel one had a shorter bat life. I have never cared for walk behind mowers. Two full years in and they are still working as good as the day I bought them. One the handle is a bit lose and bent because my son uses it hard and puts it Away wet bit we’ll get another couple of summers out of them I am sure
14:59 5/8/23. I’ve had mine for about 1 1/2 yrs and I’ve experienced a lot of issues with it not starting with full battery charge. First I changed the blade because it was bent from hitting a rock ($35 for new blade). It worked fine for a couple of months then developed a lot of vibration and won’t run after starting. Changed the blade again, but still not running. I’ve been using side discharge, so I will try the grass catcher and see if it helps. I’m pretty frustrated at this point though.
Had mine about a year and it suddenly stopped starting. Brought it to the service center over 3 months ago, still don't have it back. They've replaced every board on the mower, finally gave up and ordered a replacement, but here I am - still waiting.
Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.
Thats cheap compared to my ego lawnmower sadly i wanted another battery but cant afford alot so i went with payments on a 5ah battery it was around $250 when i got it now its around $275-$300. I really would like a 10 or 12ah battery, but I definitely dont have money for that.
Don’t think it’s for me. I have one area of my yard that is nice grass but it gets very thick even when I mow it every week. I think it would struggle with that.

do you think toro 60v is better?
@@randomrazr I honestly can’t say haven’t tried toros cordless mowers but I can say I loved the gas Toros I used for years
thank you so much for the great review. i was afraid it wouldn't have the power being 20v. this will work perfectly for me. my local home depot has them on sale atm for $250.
@hihat I am aware they cost a lot, but isn't everything pricey these days. I have always used gas mowers but for me now this was the better way to go.
Thank You So Much for keeping it entirely an unbiased review. I will be following you now. Great fantastic review sir!! You are one cool Guy!!
Thanks baron I appreciate the love man
We have had this gen 2 mower for 3 years.
Sounds like a good combination use the old for the rough ground
I side discharge almost 100 percent of the time and what I do is throw that plastic insert aside and use a stick or small piece of wood a little bit thicker than one of your fingers to keep the spring loaded door on the side of my gas mower open and the mower hardly ever gets plugged up. Throws the grass out further. Sometimes I've experienced small debris flying out such as sand that hits my face but only when I run it over my sand and gravel mix driveway to get to the next patch of grass to cut. Cut through 6 inches plus grass easily and yes it's thick grass on most of my quarter acre lawn.
That’s great to know and thanks for the tip on eliminating the plastic discharge
@@TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP sounds real safe, I'll pass on that idea.
If you decide to get it, let me know. Come back here and report your results.
Hey thanks for your review…I too have two of these mowers and I haven’t had any issues…I am a DEWALT guy everything I have is The Dewalt brand .
Literally assembled mine
Thanks for an honest review
I just bought one today, charging the Batteries i hope tomorrow i will be glad i bought it.
I looked at one today , your right the ergonomics are based on everyone in the world being over 5’9 , it needs an adjustable push bar big time , even if they added some extra holes to mount the handle lower, it was a no go even before I looked at the rest of it. The steel deck is a excellent addition but I’ve got a big lawn with lots of extra debris, it’s one hit with my Honda, so frustrating as I already have so many dewalt batteries.
wait did u try the dewalt mower?
@randomrazr Yep went with a mower from Ego.
I got one and oi love it, I never side discharge, I bag for my compost bins, I charge my batteries in my solar shed, so great return on investment.
Nice love hearing it. I have recently started charged with solar as well
@@TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP with energy cost going up, solar charging is the way to go, when I bought it, I was very skeptical, but after a couple of cuts and getting the hang of it, I wouldn't trade it for gas ever again, I'm on the Dewalt platform, I have a lot of Dewalt tools, including the trimmer and blower...saving a lot of money on not having to pay for gas lol.
Good to know. I’m gonna be doing nothing but cutting brush with mine.
@@clintarmstrong7849glad my comment was helpful Sir
Good review. I have the propelled version. And the trimmer. Another great tool.
I have that trimmer as well and love it both the 20 and 60v versions
In arizona this mower is 499 the 10ah batteries by them selves are 179 a peice 358 bucks for both batteries and 50 bucks for both chargers really actually makes the mower 91 bucks if you go off the batteries and chargers it comes with
It was 399 here in CA.
I looked up the price of Batts and chargers and this was a no Brainer.
I saw this ran down to home depot and said "take my money." 😂
@@rickydelima31 399 Heck of a good Price For the Mower kit Very nice Deal Glad my comment was Helpful
The red light also stays on if the mower is wet also telling you it won't run to protect the batteries
Thanks Tim! Are you going to do a 1 year review of the weed eater, blower dewalt set up?
I did a one year on just my weed eater last year so I’m due for a two year in that but I think I will do a one year later video on my entire landscaping set up that’s a great idea
Thanks for yr video. I just bought one.
Good to hear I sold my mow business last year but this summer would have been the 4th with this mower i really enjoyed it for what it does
Cuts good BUT it needs higher RPM to pick up cuttings .Gas lawn mowers are BEST !!!
Great Review! I sell Dewalt tools at An Electrical supply store in Upstate N.Y. Just got in the DCMWSP255U2. And THIS IS a Big Help.!
Appreciate the kind words
My lawn is always too wet for my landscaper to get to the back half of my property. This would be a nice suppliment, as it’s not heavy enough to sink into the peat.
I have the front drive self propelled in beginning it was great could mow my front and side yard on one charge now it won’t even finish the front yard pull the batteries out and one still has three bars the other is down to one can’t seem to figure it out other than that awesome mower
Thanks for the review! So what is a good homesteader mower? Looking for something not as heavy duty as a brush mower, but can still handle weeds and some hills.
Nice 1 year review tim
Nice review. Watching this from Ireland. If I could buy this for the price you quoted I'd buy one in an instant. Seems remarkably good value to me. I'm big into the DeWalt tool range and someone who uses a petrol lawnmower regularly I can 't wait to switch to one of these.
I’m really impressed with mine. I will say it doesn’t handle really wet really thick grass that we’ll but as long as you know that going in your golden
@@TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP Thanks for the reply. Wet grass wouldn't be an issue for me as I'd only be cutting my own lawn and never cut it wet anyway.
Danyo... Where will you find a good price in IRL.. Looking for 1 myself
Would this use the flexvolt battery?
What is this exact model of this ?
In the uk.
So yes it does. I did some testing with it and I found that the 20 V 10 amp hour batteries that come with it give me better performance and of course better run time than the flex volt batteries with them.
Great review, but which product was this? It doesn't look like the same one that you linked.
[edit] sadly my post purchase experience has been not great. The mower itself is fine, but the battery situation is terrible. Like a number of reviewers I got a bad one. What's worse is DeWALT customer service, completely unresponsive except for a formulaic response to my Home Depot review. :(
Great review ... just pul led the trigger on this even though spending $600 cad on a mower is a stretch.
The only other thing i miss from my gas model, it had the hose port on the top of the base that i could quick connect a hose to it for a quick clean after use.
have u heard uch of th eego mowers?
This was a quality review video. I subbed for that reason.
Yes, the side discharge is awful. Thanks for the review!
No problem
I wouldn't say awful, just not great, sucks that I usually side discharge all the time, but I have had some gas mowers that the side discharge wasn't very good either. If someone knows a battery mower that has a really good side discharge I would be interested in buying one.
Just bought one love it
Thanks for review!
Been looking to buy one, but there are couple problems..
1st - there's just none of them on the market rn (Russia) only the gen1 version.
2nd- price, roughly 800$ for a pack w/o batteries/charger
Having a blast w other dewalt products tho.
Nowadays, US is not shipping movers to Russia as they hope grass may be needed for salads there...

One thing I like is Dewalt is presently working on moving as much manufacturing back to Mexico/USA
ThisMar. 2024, almost 2 years later from when your video was posted, I just saw a big orange box store add for a Toro Time Master gas engine, 30 inch cut, walk behind mower for $1699 USD! Now that's inflation!
Are they 20V batteries? I have Dewalt 20V, 40V, & 60V lawn equipment…. I missed the voltage if it was mentioned.
They are. 20v 10ah
I’m sorry I don’t just been running the Dewalt for two years now.
Does the handle assembly fixating it to the body get loose or just the yellow knob?
My batteries died twice on a full charge after 20 minutes. First time I sent the mower back to Home Depot and the sent me another mower with a $100.00 discount for my aggravation. I used it 3 times and no problems but the 4th time after 20 minutes died. The batteries were fully charged and I made sure they were fully pushed into the chargers. So any ideas???
That's my experience too. It is rather weak and dies on the slightest thick patch. Hard to restart as it senses a load and decides it must be a small child rather than grass. I'm generally disappointed.
@@bokchoy335 if I don’t use the self propelled it seems better but WTF it just needs bigger batteries and they probably know that.
It Absolutely might I have been Leary if trying any other types of blades as the unit is expensive and not keen on wrecking one
Do you ever Wash the Deck with water to get the Grass Off
I do probably a couple of times the season I should do it more but I just flip it over and give it a good pressure wash and then at the end of the season if it needs it I’ll give it a good spray paint underneath but the Dewalt deck doesn’t seem to rust nearly as bad as some of the gas ones I’ve had in the past
Does the self propelled version eat through the battery more so than the manual push?
Yes from the research I’ve done it’s around 75 min runtime on manual and 60 with self propelled
Canadian detected: Opinion disregarded. Your money is made of beaver pelts held together with maple syrup and loon feathers. Seriously though, nice review... I've been thinking about buying one of these, and this made me think it might be a good investment.
Yup caught me I’m from the land of polar bears and Santa Claus but for what it’s worth both mowers are still going strong two years later
Been looking at that mower however the push mower i see has 2 5ah batteries. The self propelled has the 10ah batteries. What mower do you have? Did the stop supplying the 10ah with the plan old push?
Well now that is strange both push mowers I bought last summer has 2 10 ah batteries with it model is 18a-u2c2538
I bought one at the beginning of summer and now it won’t work. Really sad because I liked it. Now I’m returning it. Debating on giving dewalt another shot..

If its a standard dewalt battery it should be green in all the bars

The first thing I woudl say is call your nearest service depot that shoudl be under warranty. Secondly make sure your batteries are charged and third I’m guessing it’s a wire connection somewhere because there is nothing else they can go wrong with it

What model is this Dewalt mower? Is there a newer Dewalt model you have heard is better?
Tim, have you been eyeing the new Dewalt 20v Edger? I would be interested in daring what you think of it. Not many reviews on it via UA-cam.
I actually just picked up the edger attachment for my quick connect 60v weed trimmer
I love hearing that glad you picked it up. I’m going to start testing the edger this week
Is the 60 volt as good
I like my handheld dewalt tools…they have held up very well. This mower is not designed well, tho….belt drive instead of direct drive, extra bearings to fail, plastic secondary pulley. They have poor runtime, not enough power to mow tall grass…and expensive. For half the price, a greenworks mower does better, minus a few inches of cut width. This was a mistake, putting a dewalt name on this….because this mower fails in durability, power, and complexity which leads to repairs. no thanks.
Do you think it’s worth getting the self propelled version of this?
So my thoughts is personally no I want as much runtime as possible but if you are only doing a single yard and you want the self propelled why not :)
Would like a 12 or 15 ah flex volt comparison. Haven’t found me yet.
Did you get the self-propelled version, or not…? Thanks!
No mine is just the standard non- self propelled mower
I need a New Blade Do you have an Idea of a Better blade then the dewalt one ?
I’m nervous about recommending any other blades because the Dewalt when it’s so late and so thin I believe it’s designed that way on purpose so that you can get fast speed but it doesn’t bog down the battery powered motor

Batteries are the key. Unless your rich you need to plan properly to stay in brand and reduce batteries. 2-20v 10ah batteries are $349. They may be double that in 5 years. Im hoping to charge more and use smaller AH batteries.

Great video but as a homeowner I'll stick to my gas mowers, it just makes more sense financially.
Awesome review
I like the idea of battery powered lawn tools (has nothing to do sustainability) but they just aren’t as good or usable as the fad powered versions. I have a trimmer, doesn’t have the power of my old cheap gas powered and cannot do full yard because of that would never consider a mower but just IMO
Mine died - I think, It won't start at all with good batteries. I am dumbfounded on what could be the issue.
Dude I got a brand new one and the batteries last 20 minutes. I cant even cut .25 acre without charging the batteries in between

My front wheels broke off! How to fix!??
Is it worth getting 60v flex volts to replace the 10ah?

Thats cheap compared to my ego lawnmower sadly i wanted another battery but cant afford alot so i went with payments on a 5ah battery it was around $250 when i got it now its around $275-$300. I really would like a 10 or 12ah battery, but I definitely dont have money for that.
Don’t think it’s for me. I have one area of my yard that is nice grass but it gets very thick even when I mow it every week. I think it would struggle with that.
