- "Covid was our chance to take, and where other people may have thought us crazy, I thought of it as a unique opportunity. If we could stay safe, and smart, the pandemic isn't enough to stop our dreams - at least we have the chance to be the ONLY restaurant doing what we do, and THAT, right there, is enough!" - Art, owner of Taco Lover's in Chiang Mai.

A real treat to hang out with two SUPER positive young people today in Chiang Mai, and welcome to all of you joining us for not just one but two unexpected bits of happiness today! The first, just for fun, was the challenge to eat 7 tacos (which turned out to be not 7, but 10 things on their menu actually), and the second, a huge dose of positivity exhibited in the boldness and creativity of both Pear and Art.
Already interested in food preparation, this couple also enjoy the challenge of foreign recipe creation (adaptation? fusion?) while using all-local, all-Thai ingredients. Mexican and Thai work together so wonderfully well, that when you taste these beautiful taco creations (ESPECIALLY the red and the green curry tacos, I am still impressed a week later!!), you too may find yourself smiling in surprise at how well the ingredients go together.
I had an absolute blast, I was so happy just to have tacos let alone be blessed with the super cool story here of Pear and Art - I hope this inspires YOU, I hope you have fun with us today, thanks so much for watching this video.

Wow! I never expected this! Mexican food In Thailand?! It’s mind blowing how the owners have never even been to Mexico but they have such creativity and innovation that I think they have created something very unique! It’s almost like a mix of Thai food, Tex-Mex food with Mexican influence! Very impressive and visually very colourful and enticing. My favorite is her crispy taco shell which almost reminds me of the puffy taco in Texas. I’m currently in Mexico and I can tell you that there is nothing like Mexican food! There is something about how Mexican make their toppings.. cilantro, pickled red cabbage, pickled red onions… and no one can make beans as delicious as Mexicans can! Wonderful video Joel and Li ☺️

Dear Joel - What a fab way to start a Monday morning watching this unique Mexican- Thai fusion Taco 🌮 Vlog ! What a master stroke by the owners to open the restaurant during peak Covid time - No risk No gains ! Hats off to them ! I believe the Cali Gang Taco would have gone well with the Hard shell Corn Tortilla! It was clearly Taco-gasm for our dear Joel ! Glad that Li liked the Mexican-Fusion ! Please do fulfil her dream of taking her to Mexico 🇲🇽! One beautiful thing that I observed was during the start of the video when Joel actually spoke and felt for the lonely inanimate Salt bottle & paired it with the Cayenne pepper ! What a lovely restaurant run by even more lovely people. This was a classic fusion video from you Joel & Li, it is also good to watch you talk with the people running the restaurant about their experience and views, as a mere suggestion to mix things up, I hope your videos will have more longer type of interview videos from owners in the future because Joel you are a natural interviewer, for me it is an insight to seeing their take on why they do this and to hear highs and lows of running a restaurant in Thailand will be fascinating.

Yes I have chosen to stay here and stick it out, but not because I think of it in either of those ways, this wonderful country has been my home now for more than 10 years and so… I am just staying home :-) you can see I am also being responsible and not traveling too far, but yes you are right there are people making videos that are still very exciting, it shows that we still have so much more to look forward to once it is completely safe to travel again!!

Oh my goodness, so much to unpack in this video. I am so glad that sharp-eyed Li saw this amazing shop. Art and Pear blew my mind with their creativity in putting these recipes together. I have never seen the Thaibasco sauce. How does it compare to regular Tabasco? Also, I can’t believe how much cayenne you put on a single bite. Gives me more appreciation for how iron clad your stomach and taste buds are. And what would a video from you guys be without a standout quote from Li? Put simply, the tacos were “awesome, great!” Couldn’t have said it better myself Li. I am going to try the green chicken curry tacos sometime this week. They sound amazing! What a cool message, I shouldn’t be surprised at all though, thank you for always going to such detail with your response and appreciation of these videos. That among many other things it’s just wonderful, and I get all the benefit I feel like. Thank you so much :-) well for the Tabasco actually the standard one was more spicy… But you see that Cayenne pepper, now that was quite the kick. I did hold my breath (and I did make a mistake a few years ago and I still have not forgotten that lesson. Ha ha :-) ), I think that was a perfect flavor combination however. Just an amazing place. I think you have it right choosing the green curry out of all of these, they used what would be a shredded chicken not really common in Thai curry though, and that was a key!! You would usually find fat juicy chicken, which would taste great on its own but would just make the entire Taco a bunch of mush. This dry shredded chicken breast worked great because the coconut cream already had the creaminess part covered in that needed taco inside texture :):)

Wow! Even your Mexican food looks incredible! We don't have Mexican food near us that looks that good! The cole slaw looks way better, too. Tapatio is the hot sauce we usually have in the Mexican restaurants. My daughter had friends from Mexico and they taught her to put Tapatio in her ramen. We often squeeze extra lime over our guacamole. It makes it amazing. hahaha on the "crocodile". She is so funny. Loved your video. Loved seeing that man say hello, too. Thank you.

Saibaidee Joel and Li. Brooooo! These tacos looked so SAAP! So amazing to see the ingenuity of these folks to create a Mexican restaurant just being inspired by UA-cam. They would probably be a hit in the states. We already have Korean/Mexican and Filipino/Mexican food trucks but I’ve never seen Thai/Mexican fusion. Those are some substantial tacos too. Usually tacos are like three/four bites. I gotta try that Thaibasco too! Awesome video.
Bro 😎 the Super SAAP is well in place for this meal - I might be still slightly blown away with that combo of red curry and Thai curry on a taco, it just works too well, toooo well it’s just incredible. I can’t say I care one way or another about fusion, fusion restaurant, I think it for the most part just looks beautiful, the taste actually is a little bit too crazy sometimes… But this combo was just meant to be. Mexican food is the best I love making homemade tamales with mole and street tacos with diced onion cilantro and lime. I also make these fried snacks called doritos (not the ones in the store) they are orange shaped like a wheel and when you deep fry them they puff up into a crunchy snack. They are served with a dipping sauce made from vinegar, corn syrup, garlic, and fresh jalapenos so good. Take care my friend bless up ❤💚💛

Hello JOEL and LI. Fusion foods are amazing!! To say the least those tortilla shells look so delicate. I don't think shells here in the states look as tender as the ones you had or as large and packed with veggies. I do them like that in my home because they never have enough veg for me. Im Glade Li got to have her first taste of tacos. A Classic.

Joel my wife is from Mexico and she makes the best tacos, but this lady has a new level of tacos. Love it,but you guys should go to Puerto Vallarta Mexico, it's our favorite place to go. Food is amazing.

Amazing, tacos looks delicious
So I noticed that they stack the ingredients opposite of what Mexican resturants do when making a taco. But, it totally makes sense. Almost every taco I've had where the protien is on the bottom it gets soggy and breaks open on the bottom. Well, I do eat tacos every week, so I'm impressed by how that works.

Mango salsa is chopped into very small chunks,they color our shells with chili and spices to make them red. Never seen taco's like that my taco is just meat grilled onions raw onions salsa and a jalapeno on the side

My favorite Mexican joint after over 10 years, here in C.M. is Salsa Kitchen. Then; Miguel's, The Border Run food truck at Mae Hai market and Loco Elvis (before the music starts.) There are plenty more I haven't tried, though, I'll put Taco Lover's at the top of the list!
