redrawing EVERY SINGLE PAGE in my FIRST SKETCHBOOK?! (More than 10 Years Later!)

- Over the last few weeks, I made it my goal to sit down and redraw every single page in my very first sketchbook. Maybe part of me thought it would be a challenge (which it was) maybe part of my thought it'd be fun (which most of it was) and maybe part of me just wanted to see what it would look like now? (which I did) Whatever the reasons, I did it, and now I'm sharing it with you.
It's been over ten years since I first started keeping sketchbooks and its been such a fun whirlwind of a journey. Graduating from loose-leaf paper and lined spiral-bound notebooks to a real sketchbook was both a goal and life-changing milestone for me. My art style has changed a lot and my technique is much more efficient. This whole project made me extremely introspective and I seriously am so thankful that I stuck with it. Art isn't something you make, but rather a journey that you choose to take every day. I hope you continue to walk that path and let it bring you joy.

I know this video is older but these re-draw videos help IMMENSELY help me find ways to improve my art. When looking at the before and afters I can do much more clearly see what is changed and “fixed” so I know how to find the errors in my own art and improve them. I just threw this video on to watch before bed and I now I’m busting out old sketchbooks. Tomorrow me is not happy about this, but now me is!
I mean, a lot of what she did for the people was just... making them more boringly conventionally attractive. Give them all pointy cutesy upturned noses, make the eyebrows into that weird unnatural shape that is in fashion right now I guess, that kind of stuff. That's not finding errors in my opinion - yeah it all looks more professional, but it also looks like everything else does, more similar to the generic soulless slosh you see around.

I am still at the beginning of my artist journey, and I've only filled about half a sketchbook. It was very enlightening to see your mistakes in the first sketchbook and how you made them better in the second! I can't wait to cringe at my current drawings

It was a bit mixed. Definitely showed some promise with the portrait of her grandma but definitely not _good_ . That's just how it is though.

I clicked in this expecting to watch for like 2 minutes, but then while watching you draw I realized how long it's been since I sketched, so I took out my old drawings and sketched while watching this and just had a great time

Art is a learned skill, you won't excel at it immediately, she's at her current skill level because she has, as stated in this video, been at it for over ten years. If you try to program a video game with two days experience you aren't going to be making a masterpiece. If you keep at it, you can get better at it, so don't get too discouraged if it isn't incredible from the get go.

A bunch of my stuff got stolen my freshman year of college, I lost about 5 sketchbooks along with a bunch of other stuff. The sketchbooks and the charm bracelet are what I miss the most. Most of my art from ages 13-18 were lost, it makes me so sad
Can’t relate lol I decided when I was like, 8 that “ I’m gonna be a UA-camr someday and I wanna make flip throughs of my old sketchbooks” so I have a box at the top of my closet with sketch books in it that I’ll redraw and flip through and stuff in a few years

@@mayonnaisedog7986 I think they do. The first is more dreary and murky, slightly more down/depressing and there’s more gravity to it. Slightly saddening, while there are a little more ragged and the lines are more sprawled on the page helping to convey those aspects. Although I say this strictly out of comparison. Where as her newer style is a bit more crisp, the art/features more plump and overall a bit more exuding of positive energy and slightly perky. Very fairy like. The initial art may not have been what she was striving for but it was still equally as entrancing/captivating just in different ways.
To be honest, that's probably just the Dunning Kruger effect. The first book was not even close to professional quality. The second was clearly the work of an experienced artist. It was night and day.
@@carlsmith8593 that’s very true but I think I just like thinking of it that way. Especially since I know people have different art styles somewhat similar who are equally experienced but just draw very differently. And I’m sure that there are definitely adjustments that could’ve been made in the first one but I do think her style changed a bit.

7 out of 10 of my sketchbooks got taken by my teachers(cuz I mostly drew while in class) and they threw it all away. And that was the main reason I stopped drawing because I lost those memories of free and happy drawing, but then at the same time having an ass pain that I'm getting more and more interesting ideas/dreams recently but cannot recreate them which just makes me hate drawing overall.

I used to be an art teacher, I quit after I felt I needed a job where I could grow more and ultimately end up with more skills under my belt and more experience. I loooved being an art teacher, and after I quit I just didn't feel as inspired as I used to be. I haven't drawn anything since the new year of 2021, but watching you draw Rin, and recreating old things and seeing how you improved has me itching for my sketchbook again

I do this too. It also hit home when she talked about her appreciation for those who encouraged in the past. I would have never pursued drawing if I wasn’t encouraged when I “seriously” started at 12. It isn’t my main art form but I have won a stipend with it

WoW! i can't believe i finally found your channel! i remember about a year ago, i watched this exact video... just for fun - and got inspired by it, and began my own sketch book. (disclamer - i threw it out again.. like all my old ones..) anywayyy... now, i've taken art more seriously, and i'm more older to understand it better. this video re-inspired me again. imma grab any old artwork i have left and try redrawing it, see how much i've improved.

It's so true having encouragement and motivation to keep going in your art especially from parents, teachers, or anyother adult figure that kids look up to. I have always been a huge art person and drew all the time at first it was something that helped me focus and helped with my anxiety in social/school situations and then it grew more and more into a passion and then I got into high-school and was constantly told to stop drawing or that I needed to find something else that is a "REAL job" that I can make "REAL money" with and that art is a waste of time and money because I'm not good enough to make it my career so I need to just get a "REAL job". In high-school and for quite a few years after I was in an absolutely horrendous depression and felt like I lost all of my creativity, art ideas, and just all around lost it I used to art in literally every medium I loved doing makeup special FX makeup and just normal goth girl makeup, I'd do paintings drawings charcoal chalk pastels markers colored pencils watercolor literally everything I loved and could do it all and now I feel like I've lost all of it because I didnt keep doing it and keep practicing to get better and I try to get back into it but it's like I just can't my brain won't work it's so sucky and depressing. Also very sorry for the long rant lol
