    2x fast 5x big

It runs on G4 speed on the PS5 since that does not support gen5. It is also a bit too high with its cooler from the looks of it. So i call BS.
Also: The theoretical R/W times are never truly reached in ANY application. It is mostly bottlenecked by either Code not up to the speeds or the general Mainboard Infrastructure. Your general Loadtimes with Gen4 vs. Gen5 will NOT improve, at least under windows.

I’ve seen that before it’s five times bigger

And the heatsink on these may as well be made of wood. Totally garbage and doesn’t prevent throttling

What are the speeds when it's plugged in a Gen 4 PCI?

At $281 price point for Crucial T705 2TB non heatsink…is that worth it to go Gen 5 for a new build???

No, get gen 4, gen 5 isn't worth it right now.

Would rather have a version have more capacity and a longer lifetime while being cheaper instead, even if it's slower.

Not possible. Nobody makes a CPU that doesn't have to have RAM. RAM is like the lungs to the CPU's heart. The data coming from a drive is the air going into the lungs.

There are server systems which boot without traditional DDR 5 RAM. They have a small amount of HBM2 memory on the chip itself which handles all of the immediate memory requirements at boot.
The HBM2 memory essentially acts as a giant pool of L4 CPU cache.
It’s a really interesting approach to handling memory

The PS5 has PCIe gen 5.0 support? Idk about that lol, it released on the market after the PS5 did.
This drive may work on a PS5, but it would be a waste of money as you could just use a gen 4 drive and have identical speeds.

Maybe give me larger size in cheaper price ? Why higher speed when I already have high speed SSD and I don't feel it's slow

This is for people who want maxed out PCs. If you arent running 4090 14900K/7800X3D/7950X3D you dont even have a reason to consider this.

@@jadenmurray1325 I get it... But they are shortening the supply of cheaper ssd. We all don't want faster ssd specially if we aren't running the i9 14th gen oc
      Or rtx 4090 ti oc
I agree that the faster ones should exist but older ones that are cheaper should be kept too
Specially when the price difference of a gen 2/3 ssd of 1TB and 1 TB gen 4 is almost as much as a 256gb ssd
The stocks are lowering creating increased price

Everyone I bet this is bearly 2x the speed of a standard sata ssd in real usage. We need 100x the speed of this nvme to make eveything pretty much instant.. Probably cpus and ram need to be 10x faster as well

Someday when you power on your computer years from now and its an almost instant power on youll come back to this statement and laugh. Technology improving and getting faster and smaller is good. Look back on the old original computers and compare. Even in the 90’s i remember storage measured in Megabytes and people saying the same things when large capacity floppy drives came out. “Who needs that much storage?!”

    • @mycelia_ow
      @mycelia_ow 5 місяців тому

@@carlknibbs2849 no dude even gen 3 m.2 is not only faster, but more reliable than a SATA SSD. I have both gen4 and a SATA ssd in my system and transfer files between them all the time. The speed difference is very noticeable. I haven't had a nvme drive fail on me yet.

  • @ladamyre1

I'm not impressed. You just cited the PCIe Gen 5 x5 standard and there are many others that are that fast.
I get it. You're working for Crucial.
One more thing. Put that in a Gen 4 x4 slot and it will be as slow as any other Gen 4 x4 NVMe: Put it in a Gen 3 slot, it will run like a Gen 3 M.2
